Everybody Knows

Rate this book
Life in the fast lane was going nowhere… At least that’s how librarian Harper Simmons felt. Despite growing up in her mother’s glitzy world of high fashion and rock-stars, that lifestyle holds no appeal for Harper. She craves small-town normalcy and a place to call home. With a grant from a philanthropic foundation, Harper sets out for Sunnyside, IL, to renovate and reopen the town library. But the locals aren’t sure what to think about the glamourous woman in designer clothes— once again showing her she doesn’t fit in.

Growing up in a small town wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. Not the way Doctor Zach Novak saw it anyway. Yes, Sunnyside had given him security and self-confidence–and being the town’s shining star wasn’t bad either—but now he feels smothered by their constant scrutiny and inevitable matchmaking. Longing to view the world from a bigger stage, he’s making plans to head out of town…until he meets the enchanting new librarian.

When their two worlds collide, there’s bound to be trouble for both of them. Harper and Zach’s overwhelming physical attraction and emotional connection has them steaming up the nights with an affair they hide from their friends and neighbors in Sunnyside. When Zach leaves on a humanitarian mission, the truth about their relationship comes out and Harper is blamed for driving him away. When allegations about her past further alienate the town, she questions her desire to remain where she isn’t wanted. Even if Zach returns to Sunnyside, will he be lost to her forever?

From the first time I read a Nancy Drew mystery as a child, I’ve been an avid reader and occasional writer. After marrying the man of my dreams and giving birth to the world’s two best children, I spent many years as a wife and mother with an interesting variety of nine-to-five jobs. Eventually, the desire to create my own stories took over.

As a member of the Romance Writers of America and OVRWA, the local affiliated chapter, I took my time learning my craft, developing my skills, and laboring over every word, sentence, and paragraph of more than eight completed manuscripts. As an unpublished author, it was my great honor to be named a six-time Golden Heart™ Finalist and two-time Golden Heart™ winner by RWA.

Finally giving in to the desire to make my publishing dreams come true, I ditched the full-time job in order to self-publish the kind of stories I like to read and write. What kind is that? Fresh, flirty, and fun contemporaries about strong women who deal with relatable situations in familiar settings. I hope that’s the kind of story you like, too.

I normally love small town romance stories mainly because of the people we get to meet. More then half the time I want to move their because everyone is just so damn friendly and nice but for Everybody Knows, this is one town I would just drive right through and wouldn't stop for gas.

Harper is the new town librarian and the moment she steps into town she is dealt with mean people. The only person who is nice to her is Zach and that's mainly because he wants to sleep with her before he moves from Sunnyside. From the beginning is looked down upon because of her hair, clothes, body, and being a vegetarian which I found quite annoying the more I read. It's obvious these people had nothing to do in their spare time and even in the end when Harper made some friends and some people started to like her there were many who were ready to have her resign.

I did however enjoy the romance that bloomed between Harper and Zach. Of course they were attracted to one another but I liked that they actually took the time to talk and get to know one another before they ended up in the bedroom. While I did like Zach I thought the whole god complex on how the town treated him was a little much and not believable. Zach has some really sweet moments that i enjoyed and the one that stood out the most is when he got her a cat.

This story overall was just okay for me. I would have liked to see more humor throughout the story and less of the angry townspeople who didn't like outsiders. We are also introduced to Harper's fashion model sister who seemed like an interesting character and I hope she ends up getting her own HEA. As it stands right now I will give book two a try in hopes the author will switch it up a little.

Harper Simmons is ready for a change, between the hustle and bustle of the city, and being constantly exposed to her mother's glitzy lifestyle she is feeling a little overwhelmed and ready to take a more peaceful approach to life. She has always dreamed of moving to a small town, where every one knows their neighbors and finding a real place to call home. Being the daughter of a famous mom meant they were always traveling from place to place and never really putting down roots anywhere, not to mention they were constantly under the public eye, and Harper is more than ready to close that chapter on her life. When she learns that she has received a grant from the philanthropic foundation, Harper is quite certain her dreams are finally about to come true, so she packs her bags and heads for Sunnyside Illinois to fix-up and reopen the little town library...and possibly finally find her true home!

Doctor Zach Novak has always been the pride and joy of Sunnyside, and while he has appreciated all of the love and support throughout the years it's starting to wear a little thin these days. Between everyone always being in his business, and woman constantly trying to win the heart of the good doctor he's starting to feel a little smothered and in dire need a change. He wants to experience something new, so he decides to sign up for a humanitarian mission, and finally get his chance to see the world...now he just has to figure out how to break the news to the town of Sunnyside! But the minute he thinks he's finally ready to leave he meets the town's beautiful new librarian, and his plan starts to falter...

The instant I saw the cover for this one I was intrigued, especially when I saw that Ms. Floyd was at the helm, I have always found her novels to be quite enjoyable literary escapes for me, and I am happy to say that this one was nothing short of amazing!! I was barely a chapter into it when I felt myself being drawn into these endearing characters lives, and from that point on I knew there was no way I was putting this read down until they found they happily ever after... which ultimately lead to me have a little late night reading fest, and boy oh boy was it worth the lost hours of sleep!!! I am a sucker for a well written small town romance story equipped with charming characters that draw you in and make you feel right at home, and a story line that you can't help but get wrapped up in, and I am happy to report this book definitely had all of that and then some!

I highly recommend you acquaint yourself with the residents of Sunnyside, their small town hospitality will warm your heart, make you smile and make you never want to leave!

It’s fantastic fun being there while Zach and Harper fall in love. The great part is that it took half the book before they hooked up so that allowed for plenty of time for them to get to know each other better (and for us as well).

Zach has good guy syndrome. He feels like he owes the town and does all he can to be everything to everybody, regardless of what it costs him. But he’s getting close to getting out of town, too bad Harper comes into his life at the wrong time. She’s sassy, caring, and tries hard to win over the town (but of course they don’t cooperate all that much). And while Harper might be a fish out of water in Sunnyside, she’s got such a positive outlook on life that she can’t be bowed for long. And spending time with Zach is enough to brighten anyone’s day - of course she finds him as wonderful as everyone else does. He’s strong, compassionate, diplomatic, and has a solid head on his shoulders. Unfortunately he’s so perfect that every woman is looking to get him hitched so he does everything he can to ignore his attraction to Harper … yeah, that goes as well as you’d expect :)

My only complaint is that I would have loved to see a little more development between Harper and her step-dad. They don’t have a bad relationship but she hasn’t embraced him as he appears to want, not until the end anyway. A little more attention could have made that moment even more heartwarming. I’m hoping that we get more of Harper’s sister in a future book and that maybe that means more of her mom and step-dad as well. Plus there are some interesting side characters that add a little extra oomph to this story and who are sure to be delightful if they get their own book.

As the first story in a new series, Everybody Knows is a great introduction to Sunnyside. And while not all of the residents are appealing, there is great promise to what they could be and I can’t wait to see if Floyd delivers on it.

Everbody Knows, is the first book that I have read by Jacie Floyd who is no stranger to the romance world. Floyd who has numerous books under her wing, is a veteran when it comes to romance and I am very humbled and lucky to have the opportunity to review her latest novel, Everbody Knows.
Harper Simmons is no typical librarian. Step-daughter to a well-known Film star, a famous fashion icon, a sister to a world-famous Model and ex-fiancé to a fashion photographer, Harper could be escaping to a normal life. All that changes for Harper from the moment she meets the small-town doctor, Zach Novak.
Although Harper thinks she is escaping the gossip world, she is thrown back into unexpectedly in the small town of Sunnyside, Il. Although, it is a small town, as the title suggest, Everybody Knows, everyone`s business. The attraction and chemistry between Harper and Zach is undeniable and the two cannot help keeping their distance from each other. When the two finally are consumed be the desires that are drawing them together, they decide on a hidden romance. When something happens to bring that to the forefront of everyone`s business in the small-town of Sunnyside, Harper`s world is turned upside down.
In this sweet contemporary romance written by Floyd, there is a beautiful story of two people destined for one another, there is just something so right about the two characters. Jacie Floyd does a fantastic job in creating two characters with whom her audience can identify and cheer on.
If you are looking for a light, sweet, fun read this summer, Everbody Knows is the book for you. Especially if you are from a small town, you cannot help but identify with Harper and Zach about the trials and tribulations of living in a small town and what that entails. I definitely recommend adding this book to your To-Be-Read Shelf as it would make for a great beach read or during a summer storm.

3.75. I did end up enjoying this quick read, mostly because of the hero and heroine in this novel. The small-town aspect in this was incredibly annoying, and it made me worry that if I were to go back and live in small-town Midwest (I'm from the Midwest), coming from a city, would people be this horrible to me? I'm hoping the author overdid things, but it was pretty annoying. There's no way I would want to stay there.

Everything tied up way too fast at the end, with things being horrible for the heroine, but then BAM everyone likes her all of a sudden? Pretty unbelievable.

Besides those minor issues, the relationship aspect between the two leads was done very well and incredibly unbelievable. Sweet, heartbreaking, and heartwarming. I would probably read the next in the series. Maybe Liam's book?

I really enjoyed escaping into Harper and Zach's world. This book included a steamy romance, humor, the good and not so good about living in a small town, and a few surprises along the way.

"Everybody Knows" by Jacie Floyd is book one in the "Sunnyside" series. This is librarian Harper Simmons and Doctor Zach Novak's story.

Harper has taken a job in Sunnyside, Illinois to revive their library. She is so excited about living in a small town. This is a good time for her to get away from the city. Well, her excitement is not so high now, since the welcome she got wasn't exactly warm.

Zach's commitment to the town as their doctor is about done. All he can think about is getting out of this small town.

When Harper and Zach first met their connection was undeniable. Harper and Zach paths keep crossing. The physical attraction between them is getting harder for them to ignore. Will this connection go beyond the physical or will it develop into something stronger?

I was given a copy of his book for an honest review. FYI, includes mature content.

"Everybody Knows" would be a great book to take on your vacation especially to the beach or just to take a break and escape for a little while.

Small town living, beautiful heartwarming scenarios are just some of the rewards that Jacie Floyd offers with Everybody Knows, the intro to her Sunnyside series. Harper has always felt out of place in the fast track world of celebrities and high living. She prefers the simple life without the glare of the camera and the invasion of privacy that go along with her mother's everyday life. Sunnyside proves just the place for her to start anew and follow her dreams. And perhaps find the home and happiness she' always craved. Zach dreams of a life less stagnate. He wants to make a name for himself away from his close knit surroundings and try something new. Ms. Floyd creating a feel of family with this engaging read. It was easy to be empathetic and understanding of these two characters searching for a place of their own. Everyone wants to leave a mark. What I love most about stories like Everybody Knows is that they deliver a sense of security and home, that is what makes a reader fall hard for a romance like this.

This is a story depicting small town life at both its finest and worst moments. Zach and Harper's story is filled with challenges, chemistry, desire and a singly focused passion...and on the flip side, wry humor, clever banter, and a friendship riddled with obstacles. Then because of small town personal politics and prejudice they are reduced to subterfuge pretending to be casual acquaintances. Small town life can be heartwarming, but at the same time there's an ugly underbelly of antiquated ideals that can hold so much turmoil for the town members. Zach and Harper's story shows both the beauty along with the ugly, but also shows how compassion and perseverance can overcome so much.

This is the first book by this author I've read and now look forward to reading more of her stories, especially the continuation of this series...I'm hoping Liam's story is next.

EVERYBODY KNOWS is very loosely based on an experience my daughter had when she moved to a small Illinois town after college. We had an idealized image of what small-town life would be like and it turned out very differently. So when I decided to write a small-town series, I wanted to show all the different facets and factions. The newly-arrived heroine, Harper, wants to tap into all the good features about small towns (and she eventually does). The hero, Zach, lost his mom to cancer when he was in high school and he had a car accident that same year that cost his best friend his life. Those are heavy burdens for anyone’s shoulders and I wanted to show the ways in which an already overly-responsible child would over compensate. Zach and Harper are perfect for one another, but it takes some fun times, a secret affair, and lot of soul-searching for them to arrive at that conclusion. Kick off your shoes, curl up in a comfy chair, and drop in to Sunnyside for a visit.

Coming from a small town, I can totally relate to the small town drama when a new person comes to town. I thought Zach came on a little strong in some places - almost didn't seem real - but you can relate to the story. As you read, you become one of the characters and feel all the emotions and drama. Fun read for a weekend getaway in the cabins!

I received a reading copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing it.

I enjoyed the book a lot. I wanted to keep reading to see where it would go. While Harper has some challenges as an outsider in a new town, I think it is likely very realistic for many small towns. I like Harper’s character as a strong and independent woman. I would recommend this book.

Encouraging theme of ownership or sense of claim. Scrutiny can be harsh or kind and characters have reason in them to keep their stance.

Harper Simmons grew up in the midst of glitz and glamour, but became disillusioned with and craved the quiet life to be found in a small town. She packs up her Gucci, Vera Wang and her librarian credentials and moved to Sunnyside, Illinois to renovate and reopen their library. When she arrives the town takes one look at her attire and perfect hair and make-up and decided she did not belong. That is all but Dr. Zach Novak, who is attracted to Harper from the moment they meet. Who is planning escaping the small town to see the world when he joins the humanitarian group - - and tells no one of his plans or about his feelings for Harper. When he leaves and their secret relationship becomes public knowledge and the town hears rumor of Harper's past they all blame her for the town's golden boy's departure and ostracize her. Can Harper continue working in Sunnydale with the disapproval and hostility that surrounds her.

Follow along as the romance between Harper and Zach develops from their first meeting to getting to know each other. There are various characters of interest that I would love to read their stories. Also some I hope to see more as supportive cast Jacie Floyd pulls you into this well written story filled with characters you cannot help but come to love and look upon as friends. Those of the townspeople are a bit harder to like, but having grown up and living in small towns across the country most of my life I know how they can gather around one of their own against the outsider I understood the towns displeasure shown towards Harper. It was a great story for a first story in a series. I look forward to seeing where the Sunnyside series goes to next. My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.

Everybody Knows by Jacie Floyd is the first book in her new Sunnyside series. It is a definite reminder of what truly living in a small town can be like, especially to a newcomer, or outsider. Harper Simmons left her job in Chicago to become the new librarian in Sunnyside, IL. Her job is to reopen this closed building and return it to the masterpiece is once was. Harper is used to moving around and being the new girl wanting to be accepted. Zach Novak is the town doctor who meets Harper when she arrives. He knows the town will not be open to her because she is an outsider, without giving her a chance. Zach is tired of small town living and is looking forward to being able to escape the town. He knows getting involved with Harper is a mistake, but he just can’t help himself. There is attraction and chemistry between these two.

During her time in the town, Harper not only reopens the library but also finds a position for the town’s former librarian, starts new programs for the townspeople, and sets up events and opportunities for the town teens. The citizens begin to warm up to her just as Zach announces that he is leaving for a stint with Doctors Without Borders. The town is upset and blames Harper.

This was a fun and entertaining story with likeable characters that you want to support and cheer on hoping for that happy ending. The characters were well written and complex. The story line was riveting and kept my attention to the very end. I really enjoyed reading this book and had trouble putting this book down. I highly recommend this book to other readers and I look forward to the next book in this series.

I like Jacie Floyd’s slow writing style, but this romance was not my cup of tea. There were several points that didn’t add up for me:
- Sunnyside is said to be so small, that the local grapevine posts all encounters of h and H next morning at the latest, but nobody knows anything about the vandalism in the library;
- On the other hand they are able to collect a thousand signatures to support Harper in the end;
- Three doctors in one family. As a German I learnt from American novels that med school is very expensive and doctors start out with heavy studentloans. I wonder how Zach ( and his brother and sister as well) is servicing his debts when his patients often pay with meat and other produce.
- Why do they worship Zach but not his brother?

I stopped reading at 40% and then skipped to the end. There was a HEA, very fast and not satisfying.
Too slow paced for me, sorry.
