Welcome aboard! Charles Dougherty is a lifelong sailor; he's lived what he writes. He and his wife have spent over 30 years sailing together. For 15 years, they lived aboard their boat full-time, cruising the East Coast and the islands. They spent most of that time exploring the Eastern Caribbean. Dougherty is well acquainted with the islands and their people. The characters and locations in his novels reflect his experience. A storyteller before all else, Dougherty lets his characters speak for themselves. Pick up one of his thrillers and listen to the sound of adventure as you smell the salt air. Enjoy the views of distant horizons and meet some people you won't forget. Dougherty has written over 25 books. His Bluewater Thrillers are set in the yachting world of the Caribbean and chronicle the adventures of two young women running a luxury charter yacht in a rough-and-tumble environment. The Connie Barrera Thrillers are also set in the Caribbean and feature some of the same characters from a slightly more romantic perspective. Besides the Bluewater Thrillers and the Connie Barrera Thrillers, he wrote The Redemption of Becky Jones, a psycho-thriller, and The Lost Tourist Franchise, a short story about one of the characters from Deception in Savannah. Having lived and worked in the Caribbean islands for twenty-six years (List below), I look for reads about places I have been. Mr. Dougherty, with his thrilling series, fills that void. I have read a few of his novels.
Even though this read is 5th in the Connie Barrera series, this adventure story stands alone. You get Connie and Paul's background with a twist that keeps the reader wanting more.
Sadie's agent charters Connie and Paul's yacht to cruise the Caribbean, running from a past that wants her back and under control. Because of Sadie's popularity as a jazz singer, that bad element has made headway and bears down on their location.
That criminal element has no idea what they are up against until the last moment. Connie puts on the con to con a con man, and Paul, an ex-cop, calls in favors.
This adventure leads to a thrilling end which builds up throughout the read. RUNNING UNDER SAIL is a nautical term Sadie learns, and the reader will RUN/READ this novel in one sitting - guaranteed.
The list of places I have worked in the Caribbean Hospitality Industry: Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Curaçao, Aruba, and Margarita, Venezuela. While there, I traveled to other islands by air or sail.
Suzie booked the right sailboat to cruise on and if I go sailing in the Caribbean, I want to sail with Connie. A beautiful boat and nice crew.
Connie, and her husband Paul. She's a sweetheart, but don't get on her wrong side. And, Paul knows people she doesn't know and he can cook a great meal. They have some nice friends too.
Oh, Suzy has problems she keeps to herself, until she can't hide them any longer. Her friends are NOT nice.
A good tale worth the read. It would make a GREAT movie.
Sailing and bad guys (where the good guys usually win!) can't be beat
Its a perfect combination, so all you lovers of paradise and sailing something larger than a 25', climb aboard and set sail for the Caribbean! Having a famous young singer aboard is fantastic, but there's something that's got her on the run.
Another winner from the prolific pen of CLR Dougherty! I have read everything this author has written, and eagerly anticipate his next book. This does not disappoint.
The Connie Barerra Thrillers are as captivating and fun as the Bluewater Thrillers. When will the "Bad Guys" ever learn not to mess with Connie? This time around, she not only shows her ability to "kick ass" physically, but more important, she does so mentally, totally out foxing the bad guys. She is indeed, one heck of a woman.
Anyone who enjoys a good thriller owes it to themselves to read this book!
Unsurprisingly given the title, this book revolves around sailing. The author clearly knows his stuff when it comes to boats, and the settings feel authentic. Beneath the barnacle paint is a competent, well-written thriller that can be read as a standalone. However, I ended the story feeling a little disappointed. The plot was formulaic, and I found the ending was a bit of a let down and a little rushed. Nearly 20% of the Kindle content consists of teaser chapters for the next book in series. Good but not great.
