I love a good dragon series and after hearing all kinds of reviewers tell me I had to read this before I died, I gave it a go. The premise is good but the plot progression was disappointing. Shaky, disjointed and there were a lot of instances where the dialogue didn't make any sense. Choppy transitions took me out of the story.
I have read book one, and found it very heavy going. The first two chapters, I could not picture anything in my mind of the story. I felt I was at reading, with the author waxing lyricaly , embellishing the one line over and over again throughout the book. Detailing everything poetically. It was like reading Shakespeare. Too much waxing, not enough story. The story of the lives of the people is good, with anger, deceit, hatred and persecution. It long is and drawn out, and at the end of book one... A cliff hanger!!! I will be deleting the rest of the books.
I gave it for stars because the 1st book took me forever to read I actually read 2 other books In the middle of reading this 1st book.I did get back to it and finished all the books.Ⅱ book Was much better And moved quickly. The 3rd book Moved along quickly also. It got tedious especially Through the last 3rd Of the book. Many repetitions From Book 2 of the series. Took away from the Series I thought. Interesting characters great world building . Good reed but not 1 of my favorites But still worthy of four stars .
Book 1 gets 5 stars.. It's an excellent story with great characters and plot.. Books 2 and 3 are too drawn out with excessive violence and too many loathsome creatures.. It reminds me of Pilgrim's Progress.. There are too many repetitious descriptions.. Meliora was caught and escaped so many times that it became boring.. Characters in books 2 and 3 could have been better developed to make a better story..
Beautifully written and so very powerful. At times it wrenches the heart so hard I had to put it down to take a moment. At others I wanted to fight for a people that only existed there in the book but no one should have to endure what they did. And it just didn't seem to stop. Every moment of peace was shattered by another attack but they never stopped believing.
Requiem flies no longer. now slaves to fallen angels who use them to build their marvelous cities, the Vir Requis have never forgotten who they are or their home so far away. salvation and war arrive, led by the descendants of the Aeternum family. freedom will become that most precious of gifts
There are beautiful messages in this story, but the awful is just heart-rending, and at times I thought, "How are they going to survive this?" And I suppose that's the point, that we go on this emotional journey with the characters in this story to understand how hope and love can give rise to the impossible.
There were times I wanted to throw my Kindle against a wall while reading this trilogy. There were times I could not stop reading. I laughed. I cried. I screamed in anger. This trilogy was not easy for me to read, but my empathy told me I needed to finish no matter how long it took me.
The 6th Trilogy for the Requiem books is similar to the others. The Vir Requis are down but not out fighting am impossible enemy yet triumph in the end. Although the series has interesting episodes it would have been nice to have a bit of joy and hope earlier on in a trilogy. But I suppose these are written for battles and struggles only. Hopefully the last trilogy can be a little different.
It has been a while since I visited the world of Requiem. Daniel Arenson never disappoints. Having the ability to read the complete series without suffering the wait between books was great.
It started slowly for me but I enjoyed it very much. I couldn't decide if the author was trying to get some sympathy for the villain but it didn't really work. He was beyond any sympathy that could I could muster. Can't wait to read the other books.
Overall a great series with somecomplex characters i enjoyed it till the end when it got mushy. i understand why it was added though i skimmed through those parts. still recommend the series
Good books - I was pleasantly surprised at every turn. Great book for teens up (I'd say tween except for the incest). Looking forward to my next Requiem book.
As my first venture into Requiem after too many years, this was an okay read. The repetitiveness is often obnoxious and frustrating, the grim tone and nature of the story can get so bleak that its unrealistic, and its clear that Daniel Arenson favors endless action sequences, smut, and detailed torture and gore over world-building, characters and plot.
Despite this, there's definitely something to the Requiem series, and I can see why many are still enraptured by it. The imagination is amazing, the characters were fun despite not having a lot to them, what little world-building and lore we get is fantastic, and despite the questionable execution, the story has heart with a good message on never losing hope no matter how bad things get. It sounds like a frequent theme in nearly every one of Arenson's books, but its still a good message nonetheless.
Although I plan on giving the Dragonfire Rain trilogy a shot, unless the author does something new and/or different with the Requiem series, I don't think I'll be reading the other entries anytime soon.
Daniel, your story was brilliant but your writing left me frustrated. There were a number of times when a character would ask a question or make a comment and pages of content filling in information ensured that stopped the flow of the story. Then pages later the other character would respond and I would have to flip back to see what the question was.
This caused me when this happened to skim pages to get back to the main story.
And finally your battlescenes seemed one-sided in favor of the antagonists and lots of descriptions of massive damage that seemed no one could survive without horrible scarring and debilitating physical damage. Then your descriptions of the protagonist attacks were minimized for the most part. It left me as a reader frustrated with the imbalance.
Sorry to bring all this up, but I think your stories are worthy and that you should keep writing.
These comments from a self-published author. My books are part of an 8 book series called The Golden Storm.
I wish I could rate this trilogy higher, but the truth is I found many parts of this story to be downright depressing. Daniel Arenson is clearly a brilliant writer and I love his work, but I honestly think you should take a pass on this one.
Another epic tale in this world that we love. Full of sadness, joy, tears and rage. Easy to love characters, and plot lines. Can't wait for the next trilogy.
Repetitive descriptions of scenes or events. The book didn't flow, but seemed to be a series of events, this happened, now that happened, now this happened. I eventually found speed reading through it was the only way I could get through it. I gave 2 stars and not one because if one doesn't care about polished writing or style, it would be a good book for you.
borrowed from library: the story of what led up to the rebuilding of the land of Requiem. again, very engrossing and makes you feel a part of the story! Now ready to read another book by Mr Arenson!💜
