Critical Thinking: DontBeStupid.club Reveals 11 Principles for Problem Solving and Good Decision Making

Rate this book
Do you want to make some really great decisions? Do you want to make more of them, quickly and reliably? A normal life today is overloaded with information. There are way too many decisions to make. Good thinking skills are a requirement for making a great life.

We’re overloaded with information and we're overloaded with entertaining distractions too. We can follow the latest political outrage or celebrity getting out of bed this morning. It's an all-you-can-eat buffet available whenever you want it. But the overload of pet videos and celebrity butts makes it easy to become lazy thinkers. Funny sometimes, but it's mind-numbing. We simply consume. And everyone just moves along like a grazing herd, moving in the same direction, and not thinking about why or where it's going.

That may be OK for entertainment, but wouldn’t it be better to make important decisions for yourself? Who's really making the decisions that determine the quality of your life? Are they good decisions? Are they the best decisions for you?

Step away from the herd and Think for Yourself. Critical thinking is a powerful weapon in a stupid world. Good decisions make your life great.

Critical thinking makes your life better, whether you’re watching pet videos or discussing Proust. Some of those videos aren't even funny when you think for yourself.

"...and in all countries fools outnumber the rest."

Better to be one of the smart ones.

Why not spend a couple of hours with us and make better decisions forever? HGJ

A guide to making sound, informed decisions

DontBeStupid.club (I love that name!) is an interesting new publisher in non-fiction and self-improvement books. I honestly wish those around would stop being stupid, but since I can’t control what they do, I decided to help myself by picking up their newest release, “Critical Thinking: 11 Principles for Problem Solving and Good Decision Making.”

In the age of information overload, through media and primarily the Internet, it can be tough to determine what to believe and what to disregard. From politics to animal abuse to which celebrity is being stupid this week, what is real and what is popular hearsay? This quick and easy-thread guide to critical thinking helps you understand how (& why) you should allow the masses form your own thoughts and opinions. My favorite principle has to be “Principle 4: Common Sense.” Common sense is one of those wonderful things I used to witness from people before the Internet age when a man or woman could decide what they needed to do and how to behave without needing validation from a bunch of virtual “friends” or “followers.” Oh, the good ol’ days…

“Principle 5: Respect Nature” was also an interesting read as was “Principle 6: Follow the Money.” While respecting nature might seem like something one might instinctively do, that’s not always the case. As for following the money, this chapter was a little different from what you might expect, especially when discussing it hand-in-hand with critical thinking. For example, when presented with data (notably, Internet “facts”), it is prudent to consider where the funding is coming from to support or present these data. Also, as you’ve likely head, “nothing is really free.”

Critical thinking is a type of skepticism and questioning ability that has been lost with the prevalence of information overload. It’s time we all got back to it. A terrific, quick read. And I would suggest visiting the publisher site dontbestupid.club, as well.

A fast read on critical thinking. Well-thought out, with a series of points, explanations, and examples of the major ideas in critical thinking.
The author does mention his other books, which he is entitled to do. Personally, telling me that there is more detail on a related topic in another book is the writing equivalent of name-dropping your own name. But I'll admit that's and old-fashioned idea.
The book is worth reading as a fast read on critical thinking.
