Destiny of Shattered Dreams

Rate this book
An insider’s view into what goes on behind the glittering facade of corporate stardom, DESTINY of SHATTERED DREAMS is a fast-paced
tale of a brilliant young man’s meteoric rise. It is also a moving portrayal of the fallibility of love.

Ambition, passion
and raw courage are Atul Malhotra’s key aides to realizing his dreams as he learns the art of gambling for high stakes. What follows is a game of treachery, infidelity and murder.

The book lays bare the sordid corporate-politico nexus that compels this once middle-class boy to deftly learn the ropes and negotiate a world where dirty deals and power plays can make or break lives, where one wrong choice could be fatal.

A tale of yachts and hidden Swiss accounts, sordid affairs of lust, intrigue and exhilarating highs, Nilesh Rathod’s Destiny of Shattered Dreams is also the story of innocence forever lost.

¿Cómo se fue? Numero Uno!

I sit on the roof reading the waves crashing into Atul's boat that is harbored at the port. Sometimes it rocks up and at times falls down. Revealing how you can breath passion day-in and day-out. How you can eat, sleep, achieve, repeat - Just for your dreams.

And how they can all come crashing down like a pack of cards.

Only that it does not happen over one moment like they show us in the drama. It happens brick by brick, getting removed from the monument, that the edifice collapses.

Rightly so, We build our own demons. The embezzlement shown in the book is of high caliber and I can feel the thrill of what happens in the cream echelons of the C-class.

I commend the author's boldness on risking using too many business terms and not letting that become a jargon to others. Instead, it comes as a marriage between the love-hate and corporate genres. The personal life and the battle with the inner self to learn the not-so-glossy tactics of entrepreneurs not shown in the magazines. Describing Aarti as the lover of the married protagonist and still being able to garner respect from the readers for her character portrayal -Something I have not seen in a long time.

The politicians' angle is where this book climbed from a 3.5 stars to 4 stars.
A neck-breaking pace. Well developed stories and perfectly etched out character backstories make this one of the top ones on my shelf.

Jostled and shaken I can understand how guilt can haunt a person. Self-blame is yet to have a remedy. The surreal poetry makes you traverse the entire lives of people involved and not as a characters.

Just when I thought that I have figured it all and extrapolated the genres Nilesh might have used here,

" A little girl walks in and recites a poem about her dad and Atul's senses go numb with loneliness and regret. "

Made me wonder who the real orphan was?

Baksh dena in gunaho ko,
agar hai khuda tu kisi jahan ka,
Jeetli duniya, hogaya fanah,
Kar na saka kaam mere maan ka.

Chodi cheeze samjah ke jinhe pathar,
Pata na tha woh sitare mere aasmano ke.
Lautunga kisi din muskuraate,
Launga hasi apne faasano se.

- I, Archit Ojha became Qazi and the verses flew from my pen despite my efforts.

By the time this book flipped over to the last page, I'd wiped away my man-tears and this book had moved slowly from a 4 star to a 5 star read.

Verdict : Simply Unputdownable.

'Destiny of Shattered Dreams' - by Nilesh Rathod - story about rise & fall of 'Atul Malhotra' - a business tycoon in his personal and professional world. Being an entrepreneur Nilesh knew devils of the corporate world. In his debut novel he has used this knowledge to create story around a struggle Transmech Telecom Limited from a small scale startup to a telecom giant.

Story starts with an entrepreneur - Atul - sentenced to jail for financial misconduct and money laundering.

description

In jail he went through the events happen with him during his professional career. Atul being an ambitious man, starts his career with India's biggest telecom company, worked there for few year and leave the company to start his own venture. He made some wonderful friends in his previous company, who had joined hands with Atul for startup. In parallel Atul got engaged and married with Roshani (daughter of a wealthy Father)

TTL prosper with time and they diverse business from consulting to telecom service. And in 10 years span, they became strong player in Mumbai circle. On the other hand, Atul started facing lot of problem with his relation with Roshani due to work load.

Story took turn when Atul started thinking about expansions and applied for telecom licenses auctions. Unavoidable political bull entered TTL which finally took Atul down. On the other hand, Aarti entered in Atul life which brought turmoil to Atul's married life as well.

In short, nice story. One can finish this book in 4-5 sittings. Congratulations Nilesh on debut novel and thanks for giveaway copy.

If I talk about rating 4 / 5

Hello friends,

Being the author of 'Destiny of Shattered Dreams'. (DOSD) also gives me the privilege to be the first reader of my novel. :) I wrote the book and kept re-writing it till the story started to mesmerise me.

When I was reading the book the nth number of time, my eyes welled up at the helplessness of the protagonist in dealing with a situation at hand. It is then that I realised, the time had come and book was atleast good enough to hunt for a publisher.

The hunt also exposed a lot of fallacies I carried about being an author. I wasn't going to be given a red carpet welcome, the experience of finding a publisher is more like a model looking for a break. And as if that hunt wasn't painful enough, I realised that even when I did find a publisher, earning a living from writing was another piped dream and fallacy as well. Lol. Fortunately I still have my day job so all is good and some day it would be good enough as an alternate source of employment. I hope.

That apart, I had completed 20 readings of the book in the process of editing prior to sending manuscripts to publishers. I would end up reading it another 20 times, till we all felt it was polished enough to ask readers to spend 5 hours of their life attempting to read my work. The journey of creative writing by definition is creative and does not need an effort, but editing and the continual anxiety thinking about how readers will receive your work is sometimes a harrowing experience. But with time I guess you learn to take it easy and appreciate the journey as much as the destination.

It still is quite a responsibility, so many man hours would be invested in reading my work and my only aim was to make those hours worthy and satisfying for you. It is a responsibility I take when I present my debut work.

I must now make my pitch that you read this novel and give me all the reviews bad and good, but get your hands on a copy and read it and I trust you will enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it. I never wrote this story, it simply wrote itself out. I had read this line from Stephen King before, it seemed magical to me then, I have now experienced this magic when I wrote DOSD and created all the characters to play this ensemble I call 'Destiny of Shattered Dreams'.

Cheers!

I got this book from the author to review!
Its the story of Atul Malhotra, a businessman, his ambitions and his life with his wife!
The story starts with Atul being sent to jail because of numerous charges on him!
The story's nice and sort of decent as it gave me a different feel while reading and after finishing it!
The hindi couplets used at times is too very awesome!
The only defect is that
1.Atul loved Roshni so much before marriage and what happend after that?
2.Too much business stuff in the story!

I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is best book i have read in 2016.I think the book can be converted into film. The title of the book is apt.
When the dreams of a Man is shattered, then how does it feels?

The story revolves around the protagonist Atul Malhotra ,35 years of age, chairman of the board and founder CEO of Tansmech Telecom Limited (TTL),a billion dollar enterprise.

As it is clear from the blurb. The story is based on how a young man’s career first rises ,he achieves a lot and because of success, he was not able to control himself and see the demons ,so his career falls and falls in such a way that all his dreams are shattered, there is no way to rise in both his personal and professional life. His lost love, his daughter Ananya;Aditya his childhood buddy;Anil ,Prem , Rakesh and Qazi, his partners at work. His present could no longer fathom the things he had done in the past.

The time spend behind those walls silences the mind in any person.Though the world outside handn't changed much in 2 years when he was jailed, nothing was the same.He was a changed man,and most of that change had happened in the first few days at prison. The huge fine ordered the court had knocked off all Atul's assets, and even after that, there was a lot left to pay.

Quotes from the book:-
Life may throw devils on your path to success.Disgusted, you may take another path.It may not be the best path, not the most honourable path, bit is less evil to choose that path, because to achieve success, succeed you must.

I like-
Strong character of Atul
Way of Narration and writing was nice.
Appropriate title for the book.
I dislike-
Atul fights with Roshni because of Aarti
The devil that ruined Atul's life, sometimes success can overpower you and destroy your life and image

I read this book when it was in its nascent stages. Since then I've seen it evolve over the past year. Now in the printed version all the kinks have been ironed out. What stayed with me then and now, is the heart of the story, which is the journey of a man battling the society and himself at times. To be absolutely honest, is not possible, since its too close to my heart.
As you start the book, from word go you have a sense of foreboding about the fate of the protagonist. He is like Icarus. He will burn.
The strength of the book is in its characters. The reader will feel their pain. I dont get the corporate stuff too much. I read for the story, which is gripping. In your mind's eye you visualise the jail scene and the agony over the child. Though at the end you see redemption and a glimmer of hope.
Though the book is about Atul Malhotra and his inner demons, its fast paced. There are villains, romantic interests, a good friend, and an ailing child. All the makings of a blockbuster movie! If you like John Grisham and Sidney Sheldon, this book is right up your alley.

I received my copy as a GoodReads-Giveaway.

The cover looks very pretty, the red and blue appear appealing. Usually I read while commuting to and from office, a little larger font would have made it a great reading experience. Owing to this, I put off starting it, and also took more time than I normally do, but successfully completed the book.

The details, be it of the characters or the events, have all been done perfectly, right from page 1. The story-telling is neat, no skirting, no jumping, balanced view, the canvas complete and absolutely no loose ends. The plot is refreshing and compliments to the author for choosing a recent event as the premises, but at times, too much of business and finance went over my head; I understand that is what forms the core after all.

Embossed with beautiful Hindi poetry along with their translations, this is indeed a great debut by the author.

Recommended to all readers, who have an interest in decent Indian fiction and an inclination towards business, finance and scams :)

A great debut by an Indian author.
Triggered by a friend's reco, it was the author's own review which prompted me to pick this one.
With his credentials, you can figure out not all of it could be pure fiction ;)
Showcases the devilish world of corporate corruption, complex web of finance and money laundering, and a very systematic approach towards it ironically!
Has some good life lessons, and not in a preachy way.
The many apt Hindi poetry (with english translations) were like icing on the cake.
A fast paced thriller (slightly predictible) without any slacks. An enjoyable read.

When i started reading Destiny of Shattered Dreams, I was not sure whether i would enjoy a fiction genre, as I have always read more of business books. But reading this book made me realise that business & emotions always go hand in hand. This is a perfect bridge between both the genre. I wish there are more such books written in future.

I enjoyed the "fast pace" of the book while reading it ( i would like to call it fast pace, than easy read:). Once you start reading, you wont put it down.It keeps you enthralled till the last page.Very few books do that. Last time i did the same was for the Dan Brown series.

Its quite amazing that this book is written by a first time author Nilesh Rathod. Wish him lots of success, looking forward to the next one!

A great book by Mr. Nilesh Rathod. 'Destiny of Shattered Dreams' was recommended to me by Goodreads itself.

On his way to a bright future, he is forced to meet Shalikram, a corrupted politician, whose money is forced into TTL due to their financial problems.
Then start the problems on Atul's life. He keeps meeting new paths on his way to a successful carrier. He is ready to face the consequences and hence uses dark ways to obtain profit.
He faces a lot of problems with his marriage to Roshni, his new born daughter, affair with Aarti and the illegality of his company.

The book is story containing corrupted politicians, businessmen, love, lust, hate, good and bad advices and lots of Swiss bank accounts

The novel speaks about how an honest venture gets muddied because of the demons it had to embrace just to survive in the market. How a rising start up had to bow down to the pressure which politicians generally apply in real life too. The story line of the book is racy & keeps you glued to it. Genre of the book is contemporary fiction & covers many facets of life. While I believe the title could've been a little better but the cover is awesome! Also his poems were a breath of fresh air & gelled well with the chapters. I believe we should encourage such Indian writers more so that we can get such quality work hence it shouldn't be a miss. As Shobhaa De said “Nilesh just maybe the desi Jeffrey Archer India has been waiting for.”

This is my first win in the Goodreads Giveaways and I'm happy to get the chance of giving an early review for the book.

For a debut, this book got a promising story blended with murky affairs of corporate world and tragic shades of personal life. The woes in personal and professional life of the protagonist is what constitutes the whole story.

The story maintains a good pace. The Hindi poetic lines appearing at critical junctures of the story are really heart touching and brought a special feel for the book. The philosophical analogies depicting the protagonist's emotional struggle are impressive.

Given the title and premise of the book, I expected it to fall into typical fiction category. As the story moved on, I could feel the strong business scent of the book as it delves deep into the serious corporate affairs like the nexus with the politicians, money laundering and tax evasion techniques. After certain point, the focus moves completely on to the personal life of the lead character. Though the narration of both the aspects is very much readable, I felt dealing with two distinct areas diluted the overall impact a typical fiction book carries.

Overall it's a promising debut by the author and I will be looking forward for his next work more eagerly as it falls into historical fiction which is one my favorite genres.

I received this book from Goodreads Giveaway even before its launch.

Destiny of Shattered Dreams was a good read , settled in corporate background. It revolves around the life of Atul Shyamlal Malhotra, CEO of Transmech Telecom Ltd.
The book begins with a curious chapter and then goes into flashback. The descriptions of various scenes are nicely penned down. I was really stunned by the beautiful couplets of Qazi.
My favourite :
Waqt masiha hai, har gum ko samaa lega ,
Lekin waqt hai , waqt lega.....
( Time is a messiah , every sorrow it shall contain ,
But time it is and time it shall take )
The up and downs in relationships were discussed elaborately in the book through the characters.
Just the parts where business and corporate related stuff were mentioned, they bored me a little. It is because I don't find all those business stuff interesting even in real life.
Nevertheless, it was the debut novel by Nilesh Rathod and I pretty enjoyed it.

I read the book without much hope As I am not much of a business book reader. But when the story was read ,it was more about the human heart behind an astute business man's facade. His love and fallabilities at love are expressed so vividly ,I almost fell in love with his problems and difficulties. I had to buzz past the business deals but the love story is webbed so well into it ,it is difficult to take one away from the other. For a first book ,the author holds tremendous promise and would recommend to anyone who wants a breezy read.
Waiting more books from the author..

Destiny of shattered dreams by Nilesh Rathod, A corporate fiction and this is one of best I came across. About Atul Shyamlal Malhotra ,thirty five years of age, chairman of the board and founder CEO of Tansmech Telecom Limited (TTL),a billion dollar enterprise. An protagonist himself and the story of his shattered dreams.

An apt title DESTINY OF SHATTERED DREAMS, When the aim and passion shattered its renowned as destiny.
The way plot moves makes to read it up firmly. An interesting read with love, friendship, betrayal, corporate corruptions and political scams.

" Between the devil and the deep sea, Atul chose to jump into the deep sea. It is always easy gravitate into a jump. Effortless, even after you have leapt. Little did he know, a devil lives down deep in the seas too. "

To survive in the market Atul by knowing or unknowingly he enters into scam of politicians. Also it states the pain of rising up a company as number one in fifteen years, how his personal life sticks in-between, how the friendship matters in various stages of life and in last makes you to know what remains in end of the life.

The language is simple and clear makes narration gripping with the beautiful shayari's of writer. Whereas he said to be a successful person in carrier but fails in relationship with Roshni, his wife and Aarti, his girlfriend. All the parts were so amazing in his words.

Definitely it will be easy read and satisfy all the readers with it contents, be it plot or narration its owned my heart.

My Rating - 5/5.

The story is about broken person and his journey in the corporate world battling with the coming odds. The person, protagonist, Atul Malhotra, is a 35 year old and is founder of a billion dollar enterprise, TTL.

The author wonderfully portrayed the protagonist's personal and professional lives. The character of Atul is written strong and compelling.

At certain points, it feels like a too-much-business discussed in the book. This might be a turn off for a few readers. The way Atul deceives Roshni, was also not worthy sight.

The story moves at a decent pace, making it an easy one time read. The narration part and the language used is also appreciable. Both parts helped making this book an easy and entertaining one time read.

The book is connecting, and hence readers will fail to put this down without finishing it first.

The hindi lines used amidst the story are wonderful and intriguing. Here's one of them-

Waqt masiha hai, har gum ko samaa lega,
Lekin waqt hai, waqt lega...

The novel is, overall, a quality work by the debut author, Nilesh Rathod.

Book Cover and Title
The title and the book cover are justifying and complementing each other.
Kudos to the author, Nilesh Rathod, for writing this beautiful art.

My favorite,

“Waqt maseeha hain,
har gam to sama lega.
Lekin, Waqt hain, waqt lega,
tab tak mujhe kaun dawa dega.”

Wah! The novel by far is the best I have read this year and a refresh from the otherwise Hinglish gibberish that keeps coming from Indian authors. This one is a long horse for sure.

Destiny of Shattered Dreams is a story of Atul Malhotra, the journey of a boy next door to a business tycoon. I loved to read this book, how politicians use their dirty money through business man is perfectly articulated in the book, also the harsh side of corporate world is shown in the book.

The novel starts in a jail where a protagonist Atul Malhotra reveal his entire story to his two cell mates, how he is being framed in money laundering and financial misconducts. As the author Nilesh Rathod is from corporate world he has presented the novel just like a movie.

Now the plot of the story is really awesome, it’s totally different from monotonous like breakup, college romance, revenge etc. I think in this novel author has taken real incidents what he has watched or gone through during his corporate journey. I am very much impressed with the writing style of the author, it’s too good, a perfect page turner from the debut author.

One of the best thing which I have read in this novel is the detailed explanation of how money is transferred to foreign land and how that money being brought back to India as FII (Foreign Institutional Investor).

Destiny of Shattered Dreams is a pack of scam, politics, murder, rages to richness, corporate world, prison, business thriller, CBI’s investigation etc. it’s a roller coster ride of Atul Malhotra. Want to read something new from Nilesh Rathod for his next novel.

won the book in giveaway and I really liked the book. The way author has narrated the story makes the reader think how come such a person like Atul is in jail. The best part of the book is it shows how the life teaches us lesson, how it gives us happiness in abundance and then takes everything away. Destiny of Shattered Dreams really a GOODREAD

Before I share my review of this book, I must confess that I am always eager to read books by debut authors. I find they have a distinct voice in their writing that is raw, and unblemished by repeated editing, as the writers themselves (and publishers) are still trying to find a home for the book on the store shelf.

Therefore, when I received an email from this author asking if I would review his debut novel, I jumped at the opportunity.

As the title suggests, Destiny of Shattered Dreams is about one man’s journey through his rise and fall, across the pinnacles of corporate stardom. Atul Malhotra is a young, ambitious entrepreneur in the telecom industry and, with the support of his trusted co-founders, has successfully steered the company to become a billion dollar enterprise in a span of ten years. However, when they plan to expand their operations across the country, they find themselves caught in a brutal nexus of industry and politics.

In his arrogant quest for power, Atul decides to gamble on the very principles that the company was built on and soon realises that he must learn to navigate through the seedy streets of dirty politics, crime and infidelity if he wants to safeguard his interests as well as those of his company. The book chronicles the passion and hunger that fuel Atul’s choices and their impact on his personal and professional life.

The author being a CFA and co-founder of an enterprise himself, gives a thrilling insider’s account of the world of business. He creates a lead character that hooks the reader with all his strengths and flaws. His relationships force the reader to think about ethics, values, and long-term repercussions of every decision.

The dialogue and movement of the story on the professional side is crisp and well paced. It reveals Atul as a man with a sharp business acumen who is willing to take calculated risks in the interest of business.

However in his interactions on the personal side, Atul seems to alternate between inconsiderate and desperately needy which is in contrast to the other side of his character. Also, sometimes dialogue seems unnecessarily repetitive, as if the author is trying to drive a point. It ends up sounding like a monologue fighting for space between two people.

Nonetheless, the flaws in character is what makes the story entertaining. It entices the reader enough that one can’t help but turn the page to find out what happens next. This is one of the better debuts by an Indian Author.

I spent my whole Saturday in reading the debut novel written by Nilesh Rathod named “Destiny of Shattered Dreams”. He is a businessperson, writer and poet. He is also the co-founder of Ensemble Infrastructure India Limited which currently employs over 2000 people. While reading the book, it made me feel that most of the parts are influenced from his real life experiences as the plot of the book is about a middle-class boy who turns into an entrepreneur after which several unfortunate events start taking place in his life because of the decisions he takes. The book is published by Rupa and I feel it is one of their best releases this year in the fiction category.

Nilesh Rathod’s writing style is amazing and no way has it looked as if a debutante author has written this kind of thriller book. It cannot be called as thriller but it’s a perfect page-turner as events keep unfolding and the reader will remain excited to know what happens in the next page. I liked the pace of the book with which the author has written right from the start to the end. The opening scene shows the protagonist in the jail where he is sharing his life story with the inmates because of which he ended up being behind bars. The story consists of love, romance, ambition, blood, glory, success, failure, politics, entrepreneurship, friendship, philosophy, poetry, marriage, extra-marital affair, depression etc. The first half is more about how the protagonist is forcibly made to invest money in his business from illegal sources because of which he gets affiliated with the corrupted politician. The 2nd half is more about the protagonist’s struggle to clean the image of his company and the insight in his personal life.

The book is exciting and makes you feel for the protagonist who gets trapped in the entire web just because he has an ambition to see his organization succeed and grow. The book tells about how a person gets trapped in the situations even after he knows that it will cause trouble later on but he has no option other than choosing that particular option itself. The last 20-30 pages where the author narrates protagonist’s destiny of shattered dreams brought tears to my eyes and I suddenly started feeling very lonely. The effect that the last pages have done to me is unforgettable and therefore, this is going to be one of the most special books I read. I believe that the author can write great thrillers like Ravi Subramanian. I am just expecting his next to be the same. I give 4.5* to this book. A great book indeed!

Thanks.

With his debut in the field of fiction writing, Nilesh Rathod takes you inside the inner workings of the boardroom. With a forced backing of political black money, Atul Malhotra, the budding entrepreneur, along with his team of equally able friends, works to make a mark of with the exponential expansion of his telecom business. Caught between personal responsibilities, a marriage going down the drain, expanding business, funding issues, political pressure, incognito mediators, CBI raids, unintended but unavoidable murders, and the likes, Atul strives to make ends meet. Aarti, a management fresher brings a breath of fresh air to his otherwise unstable relationship with his wife. He falls for her while she, who idolizes her boss, too succumbs to his charms and intellect. What follows is a risky affair both in corporate and personal life leading Atul to heartbreak and jail term, which is where the story starts. He recalls his life to his cell mates and in retrospect revisits his actions and devils from his past to find out that he too has become one.

The best thing about the book is that emotions like love and hate are touched upon very finely but with a profound impact. In between the boardroom mumbo-jumbo, it is essentially the story of a man’s rise to glory and his fall due to choices he made to attain that glory. Personally, I’ve read many authors writing tomes on love as an emotion, but in this book, I especially like a few paragraphs written on hate, its meaning and its impact on Atul’s life as told to him by his father figure and lawyer Qazi. The icing on the cake is that the state of mind of the protagonist is beautifully described using Hindi poems along with their equally exquisite translations.

The writing is smooth and makes you drift away easily between the pages. I am thankful to the author for not using Hinglish in dialogs (as it is very popular among writers these days) because that just makes it seem forceful upon the reader. Using one language, I think, makes it easier to maintain the flow and avoid unnecessary repetitions. After having read my share of a few corporate sagas, this brings out a point that when faced with a dilemma, if you take an alternative route, it doesn’t mean the end of the journey, because in your quest to reach the sky you will again reach an impasse and will again need to make a choice. It is rightly said by the author, “Itne unche ude ke wapas na aa sakey, aasmaan chhune ke aibh mein wapas na ja sakey…”

Now that’s when you think you are reading raw books from debut authors (something like a draft copy and unedited versions) and wondering why you picked these books in the first place, there comes a fresh one with the right mix of everything. An example of how one can build a story around the stories that grapple India and put news articles in a context of a gripping storyline. Reminded me of those days when I used to wait for Ravi Subramaniam’s books. The plot not only explored the corporate world and political interaction (nexus), but also the psyche of relationships. Do we really love the people that we think we love? The poems written by Nilesh Rathod was an icing on the cake. Only if the dialogues and philosophy could have been cut a little, I would have given this a perfect 10 on 10 rating.

Definitely a good read with all the highs of power, lust, death, heartbreaks, and ambition.

Excerpt from the back cover of the book:
'Itne unche ude ke laut ke na aa sakey, aasmaan chune ke aaibh mein wapas na ja sakey...' (Soared so high that there was no coming back, chose the highs of the skies so there is no going back...)

An insider’s view into what goes on behind the glittering facade of corporate stardom, DESTINY OF SHATTERED DREAMS is a fast-paced
tale of a brilliant young man’s meteoric rise at business. It is also a moving portrayal of love and its fallibility.

Ambition, passion
and raw courage are Atul Malhotra’s key aides to realizing his dreams as he learns the art of gambling for high stakes. What follows is a game of treachery, infidelity and murder.

The book lays bare the sordid corporate-politico nexus that compels this once middle-class boy to deftly learn the ropes and negotiate a world where dirty deals and power plays can make or break lives, where one wrong choice could prove fatal.

A tale of yachts and hidden Swiss accounts, sordid affairs of lust, intrigue and exhilarating highs, Nilesh Rathod’s Destiny of Shattered Dreams is also the story of innocence forever lost.

Plot:
I will begin by telling how this book is built on its strong plot. The entire book, with all its life-like characters, is standing on its racy and flawless plot.
The themes and issues it touches are the the corporate debauchery, political vile, moral turpitude, emotional depravity which has become so characteristic of an unfettered ambition now a days.
The plot open where Atul malhotra, our protagonist has been jailed for his crimes. It also reminded me of The Bet by Anton Chekov. Of course, the plot is in a different setting, with contemporary jargons and engagements.
Rathod carefully weaves the story, giving it a realistic setting, turns, twists and end. Which is what makes him a master story-teller. He has set out his characters in the corporate arena, and unfolded the story in a very clever fashion.
It starts out with the celebrated rise of a start-up and then,, its maligning by political influence and force, not to mention blood. All of this ends up in court, with everyone getting what they deserve.

Characters:
Atul, the protagonist is a risky character. Risky, because there isn't really anything to like about him and with the story revolving around him practically, it is difficult not to react to his presence.
Example of the consequences of talent gone greedy, risk gone awry and ambition gone haywire, his life, both in its personal and professional aspects is a lesson in the making.

His partners: Rakesh, Qazi, Prem were all predictable, on the other hand. They were those typical partners who complete each other, bringing their own expertise to the table

Roshni and Aarti were the romantic interests of Atul, the former his now-estranged wife and the latter could be termed easily the reason for estrangement. The matrimonial tangent has been messy for this mess, and rest assured, he will be spending the rest of his live atoning his sins.

Book-aesthetics:

Brownie points to the book for the infusion of snippets of poetry within the pages. Those were a welcome respite in the plot, and were certainly good ones.
The cover page is more symbolic, and does give away the corporate feel of the plot.

**********This book was an author giveaway for a honest review **********

A big thanks to Nilesh for sending across this book.

This book is a heady concoction of drama, business thriller and dose of intrigue and romance thrown in.

***Spoiler Alert***
The book starts of with Atul the protagonist who after hearing the court pronouncement of the decision lands in jail and recounts his story to his two inmates about his rise and eventual fall in his life. Loft ambitions and corrupt politicians are the bridges to the story.
I loved the fact where Nilesh nurtures Atul's character till the end absolving him as he was in fact right in every aspect and rife with several insecurities fails to live in the top and falls and falls hard.
Though the story wrought with several stereotypical cliches but nudges along to the finish as expected.

Atul and Aditya's dialogues at the end seems interesting to the whole context of the story. Also the life comes full circle for him when he feels remorse at the end of the book.
As a reader I can only critique but the final arbiter is the author. One thing which I would avoid to see in this book is the Aarthi and Atul romance which wasn't needed and prolongs the exciting story which could have been avoided. A good read , twists and turns and falls like a domino in the end.

Destiny of Shattered Dreams is a modern and realistic account of rise and fall in corporate stardom along with a battle called love. The story takes you behind the scenes into the making of a scam, Indian politics, money laundering, murders, investigations, prison, and how a simple man’s passion turned him into the devil he swore never to be. It is packed with power, aspirations, betrayal and drama. It is one of the most penetrating and incredible story I have read this year. It is capable of turning into an amazing TV show. The story did not have even a single low moment; it rolled fast and smooth, engaging you till the very last page.

The story comes with twists and turns that take you by surprise, and leaves you pleased, however intense. The end is nothing short of a climax of a well-made Bollywood movie. If you begin reading, I guarantee you will read it in one go. A story written with poise and with conscious efforts is worthy of your time.

I thank the author Nilesh Rathod for sending me a copy of the book Destiny of Shattered Dreams which I won in a giveaway. This is one of the best books that I have read. I really appreciate the hard work put in by Nilesh in writing, editing and publishing the book. The best part of the book is everything is brought to a closure, final status of every person including the young girl Jayna. I appreciate the author for the explanation of every detail like how the money was moved to foreign and brought into the country legally which can only be explained by in depth study of the subject. I also love shayaris (poems) and I liked the shayaris introduced in the book. I look forward to reading many more books and shayaris from Nilesh Rathod. This book is a must read for all people interested in understanding business, political pressures, scams, money laundering, relationships, commitments, etc.

I got this book to read, as a gift from my best friend. it would be very subtle to not have praised this book since it is written in such a lucid manner. Having read this book in a single day, it was quite surprising on how an author has portrayed such a complex work of fiction in an uncomplicated manner.
The story revolves around a business tycoon Atul Malhotra, underprivileged in the juvenile years of life then and a founder of a billion dollar enterprise now. It is a journey of pseudo success, where the superficial win leads to the perpetual loss of alliance with the loved ones. Thus the story is a great amalgamation of fiction, emotions and business.
The poetic verses penned in the book keeps one self exhilarated through out the story. It is unusual for an Indian author to display such a finesse in English diction. No doubt that the author is deceiving us by claiming that this is his debut novel. I personally rate it as one of the finest books have ever read. A hearty Congratulation to the author for an amazing read. Looking forward to the next one!!

There is a business in the story or a story around a business. Read it either way and the other will interest you as much. Neither are complete with the other. It's an enthralling novel, gripping, witty, balanced characters around an every confused but seemingly confident Atul Malhotra.

The story has a growing business with everything going its way, a marraige which seems to be falling apart all along but never breaking bad and a love affair which never seems to have anything wrong with it. Yet the business falls, the marriage breaks and the affair ends. Nothing seems to happen the way I thought.

While the fall of the protagonist is in the name of the novel itself. I never knew how it would come about, it keeps you guessing which way the story will turn, reason why it also keeps you hooked to the story. The beauty of the book is nothing that happens is outstretched and all seems like normal everyday tales and yet its thrills you with its elegance.

A must read!

I received a free copy from the author for reviewing.
Nicely written by my Goodreads friend Mr. Nilesh Rathod.

Through out the book, i felt that the lead character was inspired by a once software tycoon from Andhrapradesh who fell prey to political predators and lost everything in the process. Ok!! lets not talk about it much. I can say this is a very decent debut for the author. Off late, Indian authors chose mostly college romance as their debut and this is where Nilesh stands apart from the rest.

He was very successful in grabbing the readers' interest. No where i can say there is a slow narration or loose ends. All events/characters were well utilized through out the plot. This could very well be made into a nice film.

I am impressed with his writing style and the urdu/hindi couplets deserve a mention here. I finished off the book in almost a single go. I would recommend this to those who would like to read to good timepass novel.
