Who will pay the price when Black and Calyx crawl back to the JCPD?

Though Black has managed to defuse the escalating war for the time being, he has left himself, Calyx, and the rest of JC2 in a vulnerable position. Friendless on the streets, mistrusted by the police, Black knows that when his enemies come he can present little defense against them...and that is not an option. To keep Calyx out of danger and to re-position himself where he needs to be when the Silent City recovers and gears up for war again, Black decides to throw himself on the mercy of Captain Dickerson. But will the price he have to pay be too much? Or is there no limit to what Black is willing to do to keep the man he loves safe from harm?

I do recommend this series, but be prepared to have very violent thoughts. Calyx and Black, such a power couple!! Seriously, they better get their HEA or I am gonna have to protest, hard!! Another cliffy, but book 10 was waiting in the wings so, whew!

Do you know the feeling, when you have locked a book character in your heart? When you love a series so much you never want it to end? Simply because you nearly feel addicted to it and you wait impatiently for the next book? I bet you do. That's what Juxtapose City is to me. I can't stress enough how much I love Black and Calyx. Calyx, with his attitude, who made me burst with laughter every little while. Black, with his compulsion to do the right thing to keep everybody safe.

“Dickerson is a problem,” Black acknowledged and Calyx couldn't help thinking what a long way they'd come for Black to say such a thing.

How true. As for me, they didn't come far enough, though and I hope there are many more books to come.

I'm glad that Black finally realized what a danger Captain Dickerson poses for him and Calyx. To have proof, he is forced to eat humble pie to be back in the Captain's good graces and to demonstrate his loyalty to him. But this means sacrificing something he cares about most: his friends. Black's vulnerability in this scene nearly broke my heart.

The bed trembled with Black's unnervingly silent sobs. The motion was miniscule but Calyx still felt seasick. He closed his eyes and kissed the back of Black's sweat damp neck.
“Shhh,” he whispered even though Black wasn't making a sound. But Black's grief was terrible in its silence. Calyx would have preferred screaming. He would have understood it. “I won't let go. Never let you go, Darkness. Won't let you face this alone, I promise.”

There remain open questions. Who is the mole in the precinct? Who is this mysterious psypath with extraordinary healing abilities? What about Black's nemesis? What is Kard's role in the whole thing? Will Sundhill really be an aid for Black? And what is the deeper meaning behind the Captain's experiments?

I hope we will find out more about it in the next book and I'm ready for Black taking revenge on Captain “Dickless”!

“This is just the beginning,” Black whispered as Calyx began to drift into exhausted sleep. “I'll make him pay for everything. I swear to you.”

Review by The Blogger Girls.

There are so many things that I love about this series, and each time I start the next book, all of them come flooding back to satisfy my cravings for more. I especially enjoy when characters have unique voices or quirks that each time hearing them again brings back memories from all the previous stories. Such is the case here with Black and even more so with Calyx.

I absolutely adore Calyx. He has so many layers, has seen so many things and been forced or chosen to do those things that shaped who he is. He’s flawed and vulnerable at times, yet strong and forceful at others. Now, he’s dealing with all of the events that have led up to this point, and having his newfound father under their roof is just a small kink in chain. Even though he’s adamant about not caring about Kard, there is still an inkling of something drawing him to learn more. There is still such a strong feeling of distrust smoldering, but it seems they are running out of options but to put some measure of trust in him.

Then there is the issue of Black and his lack of psypathic powers. He is still intent on leading his men and getting to the bottom of things, all while hoping to stop the impending war. Unfortunately, he needs Captain Dickless to make his plans work. There is such an extreme amount of tension where Captain Dick is concerned. Aside from what Black is hoping to accomplish, there is still the mystery surrounding the experiments, the mysterious healer, the creepy backers and other players who may be involved. And, let’s not forget about the other Genesis who is still lurking somewhere. But, through it all, Calyx is by his side, as promised, and it is always clear how much these two need each other in just about every way possible.

So, yes, there is still a lot going on here and a lot at play. The chess pieces have continued to move forward, albeit with many twists and turns, but this game still seems far from over, and for that, I’m very excited. I can never get enough of this crazy story, these complicated characters and this extremely interesting world Ms. Owens has created. I cannot wait for the next installment.

I'm loving the Juxtapose City series a lot. So many different and diverse characters that aren't perfect and even with their flaws you can't help but love them. The Prodigal Son was a bit short, it and the previous book felt a bit like a filler book for the build up to the oncoming war between JC and the Silent City.

I like this book in that I don't know whose side I want to win - the psypaths or the normals or if a peaceful cohabitation or truce is possible between the two. I'm dying to know who the person who helped Phoenix is and what Captain Dickerson is working on. It should be really interesting to see too, what is going to happen to Black following his recent battle with the Silent City.

So many questions and so little patience!

Another good book

This is one of my favourite series, and this one did not disappoint. Fast paced and keeping you guessing on what's going to happen. Only criticism is not long enough but can't wait for the next book.

Wow

Oh man, probably ten years of reading these and still no end in sight. Can't wait for the next installment- don't leave us hanging! These fellas are literally part of my life, and I would be a different person today without them.

I can't wait for Captain Dick to fucking die!!! He's so fucking cocky and sure of himself, like he's untouchable. He needs to be tortured slowly before being put down like the monster he is!

This is a fantastic series and this particular book built on everything I've come to love in this series. The relationship between Black and Calyx has been well established through Books 1-8 as being unshakeable and it deepens in this installment. There was, however, one scene where I was truly shocked by something Black did (wasn't expecting that he would go that far at all) and it was a little unconvincing that Calyx was willing to forgive him for it and quite easily rationalize his terrible actions BUT... there's a twist and you'll have to read this lovely book to find out what that is! All in all, a thoroughly exciting addition to what is currently my favourite work-in-progress series. Book 10 is eagerly awaited! And thankfully, it's coming out in October.

Father's

What a messed up thing to do any son. The games being played is really crazy. Plots within plots. How does Black keep it straight in his head. While not going completely around the bend over the edge crazy.

this book also highlighted for me the relationship between Calyx and Black. I love them together. especially Calyx dedication to Black is awesome

I really hope Black doesn't have to uphold his agreement with Sundhill. that would be a bit of a problem for me

It should probably be 3 stars, but I enjoyed this series. Of PWP, there was more of the first than the second P, but they were both pretty fun. So 4 stars for me. YMMV.

No matter how I feel about the progression of the books individually, as a whole I am addicted to Juxtapose City, Black and Starr. I love how the dynamic between the two of them has gotten better. I'm pissed there's no answers for what happened to Black in the 8th book. Another reviewer said they felt like this was a filler book, I do too. Tricia has a habit of doing that with these books. Most are under 200 pages so I feel like they could be combined and occasionally one or two may end with a cliffhanger. I'm really ready for Black to take down Captain Dick. I want to know what happened to Black's mind. I want Black to have a scene where he is vulnerable beyond all vulnerable the end doesn't really count. I always feel like Black is lying and hiding from Starr, it's a back and forth that I like at times, but after 2-3 books worth of fillers I want a solid plot or something concrete to happen. Starr's dad needs to have the light shined on him because I want to know his role in all this overall, too.

I love this series, but as it goes there's all ways a load of information to the story, and then fluff bits. However, the group sex scene was so hot!

This is the book that makes me realize how little we know about Black still. The entire series is an epic head trip, and the main character is still a mystery. I am still addicted to the story, though. The world building is interesting. The plots are twisted. The series only has a couple books left, and I am not sure that is the end. Sigh.

Another great book in this series! I wish it had been longer and I can't wait for the 10th book! Calyx is my favorite character in this series. He makes me laugh and he is very loyal to Black.

I'm confused. This series was supposed to be completed in 9 books. When will the 10th be out?

I love this series and can't get enough of Black, Caylx, and the rest of the JC2 team! Juxtapose City is a frightful place but they make it better.
