The Origin Series is empire building at its finest, with 100 episodes and over 2.5 million words in the military science fiction serial detailing the rise of Star Force from corporate entity into an interstellar empire over the course of more than a millennium.
Follow a core group of characters known as the Trailblazers as they use alien technology and knowledge discovered in Antarctic ruins to obtain limited immortality and lead Humanity out into the galaxy, encountering, befriending, and fighting hundreds of alien races all the while desperately trying to prepare Earth for the unbeatable threat at the core of the Milky Way that is destined to return and reclaim their lost colony…and their former Human slaves.
Aer-ki Jyr is one of the top 20 science fiction authors on Amazon due to his extremely long and ongoing space opera epic STAR FORCE, one of the longest military science fiction series ever written.
Not impressed by the hard-line vegetarian wars. It doesn't make much sense that there are so many weird and unusual beings, but not a single one that's a true carnivore. I guess that would mess up the author's vegetarian ideology too much. If you are a hardcore vegan or vegetarian, you'll love this war against meat eating. For the rest of us, it's just weird and non-sensical. The dumb-minded prey animals clearly aren't sentients. So the author isn't taking a stance against eating sentient, self-aware beings. It's just anti-meat as far as I can tell. What if sentient plants are discovered in this increasingly bizarre and wonderful galaxy? Does that mean Star Force will have to stop eating plants because they could become sentient if left to develop without interference? I actually was a vegetarian for 10 years before I wised up. But I'm just not impressed by the case he's making here. Maybe if the author was making a case for efficient use of resources for mass food production in an alliance of 900 trillion people, then I could make some sense of this stance. But he doesn't seem to be making that case. It seems to be just another example of the author letting his personal ideology stomp it's muddy feet across his otherwise very interesting and compelling universe.
Dual psionics! Also good on Davis for getting out of the Pyramid for the first time in almost an eon. Interesting that they only just now got knife shields. That's one of the things that sort of irks me about the trailblazers. They seem extensively incurious about their own powers. I know if it was me, I'd be wondering what kind of stuff I could do with it. Like, can you develop psionics to the point where you can independently manipulate genetics without technological aid? Can you use it to change other people's minds, not by directly hacking them but monitoring and introducing stimulus until you can get a formula? Man, they are wasting opportunities out here!
More cyclical structure. The Word is replaced by yet another Small Bad while we keep racking up Big Bads that don't seem to show any probability of being eliminated, though I like the leveraging of one of the species in the ADZ on the alternate front. It allows them to defeat that enemy without attracting attention directly to SF. I get the sneaking suspicion that one of these species is going to rat them out to the dinos though.
Is the author a strict vegetarian or just stirring the pot to get a reaction? It makes sense to avoid eating a sentient creature but how low (in sentience) should you go? About the animal farms talked about in a previous story, what do you feed the big dogs and cats? In one of my favorite series, one of the caracters says "I didn't claw my way to top of the food chain to sneak up on a leaf". It is a very difficult decision to make and this is a simplistic way to fix it. This is a left wing, liberal fix, in that we cannot do it correctly, so we'll just ban every part of it. Thats what the liberals are trying to do with gun control. They don't understand them enough or how to properly use firearms, so they try to pass stupid laws that won't work in a real society or with real people. This is fun. I never thought I'd be able to communicate with others like this. In this liberal owned society, I'll probably be shut down soon. Some folks, in spite of what they say about "diversity, all hail diversity", only want folks to mouth their opinions. All others are "hate speech".
Recomanable!
I am enjoying the overall story progression, but constantly being thrown out of the story due to typo errors and incorrect words are seriously lowering my expectations as the series progresses, and it appears to be getting worse the further along I get. An editor would hopefully catch these glaring mistakes, but obviously that has not occurred.
I’m planning to continue reading unless I reach a breaking point...
For any who haven’t read this series yet, it is a fantastic series about a possible origin of the human race and what the present and future would be like if true. Certain humans gain extremely impressive and fun powers, we expand out into the universe and find other people (or aliens) exist. It explores one way that it could all go down.
No to religion, marriage, family or previously known structure. OK enough of that. Good solid reading. A bit more proof reading prior to publishing needed but not overly distracting.
I hesitantly started this series and have not been able to start since! I was only hesitant because it was new, but truly enjoying the development of the characters and how Star Force is growing and developing over time!
Unfortunately bullies do not respect anything but raw power As the good guys, negotiation must be tried, but as Teddy always said, carry a bigger stick Great political juggling and planning Great story
