La ce tanjesti acum? La mancare? Iubire? Stima de sine? Liniste sufleteasca?

This was an amazing book, it really opened my eyes. Such simple tips, that have worked for me so far. I never realized how I have been going through my life completely unconscious. Amazing how just tuning in for a few days has made such a difference. I highly recommend this book, and I think everyone can take away something from this book.
This book has a lot of good information in it. I especially liked the chapter on eating in the Ayurvedic way and the entire second half is about mindfullness in your life and I liked that as well. As for weight loss? Chopra is saying that if you look to your inner self to find out why you eat out of boredom or anxiety and if you fix that the weight will come off easily. He writes a little on meditation, but there are better resources for that. I mostly read this to bolster my beliefs on the foods I should be eating (whole, natural).
Are you using food to try to satisfy hungers it just can’t fill?
As humans, we all have basic desires for feeling: safe, secure, nurtured, loved, appreciated, and meaningful: “If you have filled these needs, food will be just one delight out of many. But countless people turn to overeating to substitute for what they really want. It becomes a game of switch-up, and they often don’t see what’s happening. Is that the situation you find yourself in? Here are some common indicators. • You don’t feel secure unless you are dulled by eating too much. Dullness brings a kind of calm that lasts a short while. • You don’t feel nurtured except when your tastebuds are overstimulated with sugar, salt, and fat. • You don’t feel loved and appreciated, so you turn eating into “giving myself some love.” • Your life lacks meaning, but at least when you eat, the emptiness inside can be ignored for a little while.” (pp. 11-12)
Deepak Chopra’s _What Are You Hungry For?_ explores how to truly nourish your innate desires and hungers: ”To be fulfilled is something that food can’t do alone. You must nourish: • The body with healthy food • The heart with joy, compassion, and love • The mind with knowledge • The spirit with equanimity and self-awareness” (p. 9)
Overall, I found the book to be quiet helpful, insightful, and realistic, and appreciated its integrated approach for using awareness, self/emotional-regulation, Ayurveda principles, spirituality, and healthy eating to nourish the body whole. At times, however, it did feel like I was reading a brochure from the Chopra Center (Deepak’s California resort program), but nothing that a little mindfulness couldn’t pass through. I think his approach is a solid one, and I really resonated with the key message of: “Life is about fulfillment. If your life isn’t fulfilled, your stomach can never supply what’s missing.” (p. 12)
_What Are You Hungry For?_ is definitely a satisfying read that can help lead the way to finding and fulfilling your true sources of hunger.
Very boring dreadful Audio Book. I have not gained none to much knowledge that I already know of. Often it seems an advt. of "Chopra center". Pretty much all food were listed at one time or the other and are deemed bad !
You know, I am always looking for the thing that will finally break through for me and fix my unhealthy relationship with food forever, which is exactly why I purchased What Are You Hungry For?: The Chopra Solution to Permanent Weight Loss, Well-Being, and Lightness of Soul by physician and spiritual guru Deepak Chopra. I definitely think that the mind-body-spirit approach to weight loss is the way to go, which is what he really tries to drive home in this book. He makes several references to Ayuverdan eating practices (stemming from ancient India) which is something I'd like to learn more about. Instead of focusing on different food groups, he breaks the food you should be eating into different tastes: sweet, salty, bitter, pungent, etc. and really drives home the fact that what we should be eating should be natural, in season, and fresh. Overall, Chopra's methods presented an innovative approach I've never seen in any other nutrition or weight loss book. I liked how he also talks about finding fulfillment in other areas of your life (instead of clinging emotionally to food) and highly recommends making meditation a routine part of your day. It's all about achieving lightness and balance and lord knows I need some of that in my life.
I'm deeply inspired by Deepak Chopra's scientific approach towards a balanced mind body and spirit based living. In this book he talks about recognizing that we all want and deserve fulfillment which can often take the inaccurate form of hunger for food. Recognizing that food is not the answer nor is deprivation (fad diets) and eating to nourish the mind, body and spiritual connection will help arrive at our target health as well as lead to a higher and deeper self.
. This is very similar to the Intuitive Eating book I read last year. The underlying principles are to honor hunger and fullness cues and to examine what you're really hungry for when you reach for food. It's not just, "What do I really feel like eating right now?" but what is the metaphorical hunger I'm trying to fill? Do I actually need excitement? Connection with a friend? Meditation? There are a lot of really great points here about how trauma overrides our natural cues, and that's where this book's value lies. I don't particularly care for his specific suggestions that sometimes verge on fat-shaming. And I don't care for the emphasis on weight loss or his assertion that only a very small minority of overweight folks are happy with their bodies. Currently, I weigh more than I ever have, and I've honestly never felt more love for my body than I do now. I reject the idea that I need to lose weight because fat=undesirable. I just want to treat my body with love rather than a sense of punishment. Wellness will follow.
It starts out being helpful for the first 20-30% and then it runs out of good points or advice so it undercuts that good advice with a bunch of random nutrition facts that no one came to Deepak Chopra for. If we wanted to hear again that added sugars are bad and stay away from GMOs we would have picked up a different book! You can’t preach a holistic relationship with food and then tell us to stop eating when we are at a 6/10 level of full - that’s too diety. Diets don’t work. We don’t need the info about veggies, everyone knows veggies are good for you! We need a way to decouple our food from our appearance and self esteem, and this gave me that, but then it took it back in later sections.
Anyway, food’s complicated but incredibly simple! Eat in moderation, eat a lot of veggies. That’s it, that’s all you need to know.
What I loved most about this book were the nuggets of wisdom. So much so that I am listening again, own in hand, to take notes to create a booklet of inspiring mantras to visit often that remind me that my journey to health is first and foremost a study of my emotional self. We hunger for many things - not only food. Yet we often try to feed all hungers with food. I found the actual food suggestions a bit precious - not everyone has access to the types of foods he promotes. And the notion of throwing out leftovers goes against the frugal, economic, and ecological parts of my psyche. I understand fresh. But I also understand waste. So I will use the knowledge to help me better understand being fulfilled in all ways - not just through food.
This really didn’t work for me. I didn’t think he said a whole of new stuff, yet it was filled with airy-sounding narrative. I guess I can see how some people might like this, but nothing resonated with me. He also named his approach after himself (The Chopra Solution), which rubbed me the wrong way.
What a horror of a book. It introduced an interesting concept in the beginning, and quickly plunged into disconnected and contradicting stream of consciousness, with random tips on dietary supplements, meditation, and practical advice on how to terrorise your family by restricting access to any food Deepak Chopra considers unbalanced or impure.
While this book is a bit redundant at times, especially if you've read other Chopra books, there are bits of new and useful wisdom sprinkled throughout. The recipes at the end of the book are a delightful bonus!

I have long admired Deepak Chopra. I've read his books, listened to his lectures, and participated in his guided meditations. When I heard he had written a "diet book", I couldn't wait to buy it, and I was not disappointed. Dr. Chopra, as you would expect, combines dietary advice with spiritual teachings. Because of this, I believe "diet book" to be a misnomer. I think this book is more a lifestyle book. Chopra relies heavily on Ayurvedic practices which I find too strict to follow on a budget that is strained both time-wise and financially, but I do appreciate the underlying principles and enjoyed hearing them applied in this manner. There is a lot of information here. I will read this book again!
