I like the fellow's sense of humor in these books, however, it does get a little tiresome. i find myself skimming over some of the silliness to get to the meat of the mystery and the clues. I've read several of the stories and that seems to be the format. I read mysteries mainly for the mystery.

Vacation fun!

This book was great! And not at all what I was expecting. Far from I what I would typically read but I am now a fan. It was a book I got for free on Amazon, I wasn't really e,cited about it, and I almost never read books by men so I was pleasantly surprised by how much I really enjoyed it. I usually pick cozy mysteries by women. The characters were great, well described and with lots of humor, they truly were characters. The main characters were retired cops out to solve a murderafter enjoying a vacation where by chance Cy jokingly promises to solve a murder if a cheapskate he meets at a restaurant finds a body on his front porch. Never in a million years does Cy think he will be making good on his promise, he gives the stranger his cell number and the fun only starts there. I like that it was from a man's point of view. There is a lot of food going on which at times made me want to drool. I am so glad I gave this book a chance, I am going to read other books in the series.

I found this to be an average read. The plot and basic writing were okay as was the mystery. What I didn't enjoy was the main character. The story is told by him from his perspective. He is a retired detective. I didn't warm up to him. Perhaps his character is appropriate but I found his humour on the mean side and his relationships with his girlfriend and partner shallow. There was too much of the story devoted to these shallow relationships and mean jokes about his neighbour and old friends. Much of these parts of the story were repetitive and by halfway through, as soon as I recognized a pattern, I skipped forward a few paragraphs. If however, you know someone like this and like them or relate to this kind of humour, I'm sure you will enjoy the book.

Awesome book recommend highly

Oh man I couldn't put this book down. I loved it. Great mystery & quite a few laughs not chuckles out and out laughs. I also loved our main men were men of faith. I can't wait to read more in this series & any future books. He is on my favorite author list.

I made four comments and I really don't want to do a review. First of all, the book, should be under the genre of humor or fantasy because it had nothing to do with reality... secondly, it was the most boring book I have ever read, sure in the beginning I enjoyed the protagonist's biting sarcasm as I am a Northerner and I live in the South and they don't understand sarcasm either but that is the most enjoyment I got from this mystery/thriller.... they seemed to have solved a crime from their couches and spent the majority of their time watching movies and eating, doing as little as humanly possible. and supposedly the clues just fall into their laps and cops from other jurisdictions are just thrilled to do things for them.... pure fantasy! Garbage...

Chat with a stranger!

While on vacation, Cy and Lou chat with a stranger while waiting in line at a pancake house. Revealing they were retired cops, Cy tells the stranger that if he ever finds a body on his porch, he'll solve the murder for free. You guessed it. Within days the stranger calls with a body on the porch. Follow our two intrepid cops while they solve this crime. Enjoy!

Ugh

Too much unnecessary jibber jabber about cheesecake and movies. It got old. Not a very well woven tale. Could have been so much more.

E-Reader. Cozy Mystery

If you have read any books before about the retired Lt. Cy Dekker and Sgt. Lou Murdock you'll enjoy this book.

They were given a trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee by the Hilldale Police Department, when they retired.  They loved the area so much they both bought timeshares at Westgate, just a mile outside of Gatlinburg.

They go for a week.  They love eat breakfast at the Pancake Pantry.  While they waiting standing in line to eat, Cy gets tapped his shoulder by a skinny man behind him.  While waiting Cy mentions he is a retired Police Detective who solved every murder was assigned to.  So the man, Harry asks if he finds a dead body will Cy come to solve the murder?  Cy says yes, but only he finds the body on his front porch.  Even gives Harry his private cell phone number.

Well Cy and Lou are back and had unpacked their luggage. Cy gets a call that wakes him up, he doesn't known the number that came up on his phone.  He answered his phone who is calling me so early in the morning?  Well callers his name is Harry and asks how he got his number.  Cy forgot he gave number to Harry as a joke.  Well Harry said there was dead body on his front porch and you promised to find the person who killed the man.

Harry lives in Hopemont, which is about a hours drive from Hilldale.

There is so much more to this story, too many suspects.  And keep in mind both Cy and Lou are very faithful, read their bibles every day and go to church every Sunday.  Lou gets clues from God, which they try to figure out to solve this case.

Enjoy this cozy mystery! It is a fun book to read!

I enjoyed the humor and mystery. Even more to the point, I like this book even better than the last one I read by this author. The main reason is there was more 'Christian' to it.
I have read where some people have complained ( concerning many Christian authors) that there was Bible quotes and application of scripture in the novels.
I always find that a 'mystery'?
Personally, I read Christian fiction because I expect it to have a strong Christian viewpoint. If I wanted to read something with out verses, doctrine, application of scripture etc. then I would read a secular novel. To me the whole point of Christian fiction is that it would have a lot to do with Christianity.

So this novel had more Bible quotes, and application of scripture while still being funny and a good mystery. If anything, I wish it had 'MORE" Bible scripture quotes, more Bible application, more doctrine.....still there was no explicit sex, no swearing, no promoting bad sinful behavior by the heros.

So all in all a good read.....a Christian fiction, tho, I wish it were more heavey on the Christian part, still a lot better than the last one.

Cy and Lou can't seem to stay retired. In book 10 of the Dekker series, Cy gives his number to a stranger with instructions to call only if he finds a body on his front porch. Which, of course, he does. If you've read other books in this series, you know what comes next - lots of talk about food, details on the minutiae of life, messages from God to Lou, swapping one-liners with everyone, and occasionally the investigation of a murder.

This one is not as good as the last couple in the series have been, and there isn't much new here. The next door neighbor is back, along with the typical insults about her looks (this, along with the need to hug and kiss the much younger cop who took his place, is not humorous and the books would be better off without). There is too much detail about favorite authors and cheesecake and movies.

Overall, this isn't a bad book but it isn't a very good one either. However, it is mildly entertaining and completely family friendly.

Mysterious murder

Every time I get one of Steve Demaree's Cy Dekker mystery series, I find myself thinking I won't do this again. Yet, the price is right (free) and I can't resist. There's always a LOT of filler, such as the long list of books he is reading, has read, or plans to read; and the detailed description of foods he has eaten, is eating, or plans to eat. The mystery is solved with the help of Cy's friend and fellow retired detective, Lou, who receives curious messages from God containing veiled clues about the current murder. The team has successfully solved every case, so it is working. I always like to read a series in order. One could read this as a stand alone, but would not quite get the personalities of the two detective friends and might not hang in through the filler to finish the book. Start with book one and do a marathon.

First time reading this author and the 10th in the series. It was a pretty good book but it got winded in places. The main characters are Cy and his partner Lou. They are retired detectives and while on vacation Cy told a guy , Harry, that if he found a murdered man on his front porch they would come and investigate the murder . Said they had solved every murder they investigated. Was long after they got home that Cy got a call from Harry saying he had found a dead body on his front porch and had the the police that they were going to come and solve the murder. From there it got strange. It was a good story and it kept my interest,

The mystery part of this book was good and well thought out. I could not, however, warm to the main character, retired detective Cy Dekker. I found him boorish, gluttonous and self important. He definitely seemed to believe himself superior to his “partner” and I had the impression that his love interest was his “little woman”.

The overall style of the book reminded me of the old black and white detective shows with the voice over monologues of the PI’s inner thoughts. Unfortunately, the inner thoughts we were privy to made me want to grind my teeth. I really struggled to get through this one.

A Body in the Porch

I love the DekkerCozy Mystery Series. Cy and Lou are so funny. This is a mystery about a dead body in a rich guys porch. Someone poisoned, fan him over with a car. Then to make sure he was dead shot him. After all this the person out the dead man on the rich person's porch. The dead man had just won the lottery, millions of dollars. The mystery was finding out who murdered this man. Along with finding out where the money was hidden. There were keys for the room the dead man rented; keys for bank deposit boxes; a locked at the bus station; and a storage unit. Where was the money hidden and who killed this person.

Cy & Lou do it again!

I love these guys! Admittedly, I liked the original pair better than the "more fit" pair. IDK, they were just funnier! This story, however, is full of teasing, puns, & even a bit of mayhem! I must say that I appreciate the Christian background very much. The guys aren't stuffed shirts in any sense, but offer good, clean fun. The idea that God gives Lou clues to figure out is hilarious to me. I hope there are many more adventures for these two loveable clowns!

I've always enjoyed following Cy, the events that keep pulling him out of retirement to work on cases, his light-heartedness, and his humor. And, I admit, I'm behind on this series, so I decided to catchup. So it's been a while since I've read a Dekker book. However, I don't remember Cy's sarcasm toward his neighbor or her dog as being so harsh. There were a few cute lines, but overall it was a bit much. I'll probably keep reading just because I enjoy following Cy, but it's just not the same with so much harshness. It even made me wonder if it was the same author.

Stiff on the Porch

Cy Dekker and Lou Murdock go on vacation for a week in Gatlinburg. While at their favorite pancake house, Cy brags to a customer in line about his impressive police record of solving crimes. He tells the customer if he ever had a crime that needs to be solved to call him. Well, the customer calls. Someone has murdered a man and left him on the she's front porch. Delightful as always!

A wonderful cozy mystery

This is another wonderful Christian cozy mystery by Steve Demaree. I loved the way he brings his everyday activities into his search for the killer. This was the most hilarious book I have read in a long time. I laughed until I cried at times. I loved it very much and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good clean cozy mystery that is also very funny.

This is the second book I have read by Stever Demaree and I loved it as much as the other one. 52 steps to murder. The two retired detectives were so much fun. The story as it started was a little far fetched but it righted itself (or I righted myself) and it had an awesome ending. I can't wait to read another book by Mr. Demaree if I can stay away from the fridge long enough to read it to the end. ha ha.

Awesome book!

The author did not disappoint me with this book. I appreciated the clean language and the way he takes turns that leave you wondering what happened. I will continue to read this author because of his ability to weave a story without using profanity and sex to tell the story.

Great book

This book has made me laugh so much while reading it that my husband thought that I had gone completely crazy. It is not only a great mystery but this writer makes the story flow with witty charm. Maybe only a southerner will find it as funny as I did, but I hope that any reader will find the air as great as I did.😊

This was an enjoyable story, except that it didn't feel like the others. I've thoroughly enjoyed reading all of Steve Demaree's books. The relationship between the main two characters is comical and lighthearted. I like that it draws you in and keeps reading. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a mystery with a touch of humor.

Big Bucks Gone Missing Or Did They?

Good mystery read with all the essentials of who, what, when, where and why to keep you focused. Of course, there are the side distractions to try to pull your focus off the true mystery of this read. I will be enjoyIng more of this series in the future.

I know the plot was far fetched, but it was humorous, so I expected that. I could even put up with the endless meals he mentioned. What I could not stomach, however, was pulling the murderer out of a hat. I don't like books where you can't guess the murderer because you never "met" them in the book. Disappointing.

Great plot twists and humor…

The plot twists and the antics of Cy and Lou, retired detectives living in a small town in Kentucky made for a fun read. You cannot go wrong with murder, suspense, and good humor! The characters are likable and it’s entertaining. I finished the book in one day and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Another great mystery

I like series as I get caught up in a good character and am sad when their story ends. This one is also filled with good characters and an interesting plot.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I'm tired of the side-story of the neighbor. I wish either she would move or that Cy would.
