When Huang Sun’s tong attempts to murder Mai Lee, Matthew Slade learns that the ruthless human trafficker means to attack her father, the Chinese Prince Zailan!
So the gunslinger and his sea captain friend Amos Harding need to beat Huang Sun to the Far East city of Shanghai…by going via the new wonder of the age, a self-propelled airship! Slade and Amos travel the ocean winds across the Pacific, battling hostile islanders, Huang Sun’s allies, and Chinese bandits along the way.
Can Slade overcome all if he is to win the day and save his adopted family?
For somebody who lives by a gun Matthew is pretty inept in his gunfights. He starts a fight and is immediately in inferior tactical situation which results of him breaking a leg, getting shot etc. Professional killer behaving like that will not be around for a long time. If you don't know a lot about guns don't go in the details - remember there is devil there. There is enough firearm historians or simple gun nuts who can explain author how single action handgun works in minute detail so we would not have to read total gibberish written in the book. After that we have Colt .45 who fires 44-40 ammunition!! Seriously!!? Little research is going a long way!!
I am fascinated with the different view of "the way things were. Having missed #2 & #3 in the series ( I can only get kindle unlimited books) I'm sure I missed a lot of character development but Ms. Ryder makes it a pleasure to read even when I am missing info.
