Closing her heart a long time ago, Grace Clark made a promise she’s vowed to keep. Having Hollywood heartthrob Evan Matthews move in next door with his alluring good looks, charisma, wit, and sexy smile is a temptation that runs the risk of compromising the importance of that promise.

Evan is drawn to his new neighbor. Grace is the exact opposite of the women he normally encounters. Enticing, down-to-earth, and confident, she captivates him. She has no problems facing off with Evan, and he soon realizes Grace is much more than just a challenge. He wants to prove himself to her.

Grace can see the man beyond the actor, and with more than just her pride at stake, she needs to hold tight to her promise before Evan breaks through all her walls, exposing her heart.

Title: A Promise Kept
Series: Standalone
Author: Anissa Garcia
Release date: June 6, 2016
Cliffhanger: No
HEA

He never fit with a woman so entirely, but she owned him, and he would do what he could to own her right back.

A Promise Kept is your typical book about an average girl meeting a Hollywood star and the fairytale romance that comes along with it. This is a story about how one woman learned to accept the past, face her fears and take a chance on a most unlikely love.

Grace is struggling to come to terms with the loss of her brother as a teen, It has affected her entire adult life and left her in a state of suspension, unable to move on. The night that she lost him, her heart was forever torn and her family shattered. Since then, the only person she could depend upon was herself, and she wasn't allowing anyone to make her exposed and weak ever again. Grace was a heroine who was very stubborn and quick to dismiss any flirtations-even from hot heartthrob Evan Matthews. She's not impressed with his fame or practiced lines and I admired that about her. She wasn't falling all over herself based on his looks or other superficial reasons.

Even is immediately charmed and intrigued by her refusals to go out with him and it only makes him twice as determined to change her mind. At first, he's simply looking for a fun diversion and the rare challenge of the chase. But it doesn't take long for him to see that she is a woman that make him re-think everything he thought he wanted out of life. She was completely unexpected.

He had no idea when he had met this woman what he was in for, but now that he was jumping in, there was no way he could jump out. He wanted her, desperately, and with a hunger that ran far beyond anything he'd ever felt.

That had the conflicts you would come to expect with their situation. She's cautious due to his history with women in the past, his traveling lifestyle and the polar opposite worlds they exist in. Evan has a lot of work to do to convince her that he's serious and genuine in his interest for her. Will she put her trust in him and take the leap of faith that what they have is a chance at forever?

I thought this was a pleasant read, however my only criticisms being that I think Grace was a tad too stubborn and unwilling to let go of the past. She was forced into facing her fears and instead of seeing her grow into her own confidence, she reacted immaturely and avoided confronting her issues. As well, the resolution to the big conflict at the end was too rushed for my taste. The way she forgave him was anticlimactic, but that may just be me.

Overall, it was a decent debut book with lots of enjoyable sexual tension and sweet moments. Grace led Evan on quite the chase and I can't fault him for a thing. He was very supportive and patient with her, waiting until she was ready and showing her in his perseverance how much she meant to him. The supporting characters were well developed, I wouldn't mind reading about one of Evan or Grace's friends' stories in the future. I'll be keeping my eyes open for any future books.

I was so excited when a copy of Anissa Garcia's debut novel A Promise Kept showed up on my kindle. I dove into this baby and let me tell you I was not disappointed! I devoured it in one sitting.

We have gorgeous Evan Matthews, who moves in next door to Grace Clark. Evan happens to be a Hollywood movie star! They meet when property manager Grace heads next door to fix Evan's leaky pipe. Evan is attracted to his property managing, historical romance writing next door neigbor. But getting her to give him a chance may take a bit of cunning...

Every single character in this book was just phenomenal - from the main characters to the side characters. I wanted to jump in the story and be part of the group of friends! The closeness that each group of friends shared was so wonderful and authentic and when they joined together... just priceless! Let me say, I am really hoping we get to see more from the group of friends in the future!

So let's talk a little more about Evan and Grace. I just loved watching as Evan slowly won Gracie over and earned her trust. She let him into places no one else had dared to enter before. And the banter between them was so witty and wonderful. It had me laughing and smiling throughout the book.

A Promise Kept was a sweet, sexy and touching love story. We need more of that in our lives.

I definitely recommend this book. Don't miss out on Anissa's debut novel, she has a promising career ahead of her!

*Actual Rating 2.5/5*

This book was a fast read that was enjoyable but for me lacked the ability to make me feel the character's emotions. I flew through the first half of the book and while it contained a few cliches like the neighbour next door and the girl who can change the player, it was quite enjoyable. By mid-way the momentum of the plot started to slow and the story started to drag. By the end I kept on checking how many pages were left. The conflict between Evan and Grace could have been avoided if they had just talked and I think that Grace's reaction was a bit over the top; she could of at least talked to Evan. The event that reunites them is cliche and the way that Grace quickly forgives him is quite unbelievable; if she was really that upset with Evan they would have more issues to talk about. Overall this book was quite enjoyable in the beginning and had a strong start but towards the end lost momentum and failed to make me feel anything.

Received a review copy.

Beautiful is how I would describe such a romantic story. Anissa Garcia has created a very beautiful romance that gripped me from cover to acknowledgments. I loved how this story flowed and how the romance continued to grow into tender love between two different, yet similar characters.

Grace was a very beautiful woman, inside and out. She is smart, hardworking and loving. She works as an author writing historical romances and as a property manager. Grace had a tough time as a teen with an ex who betrayed and hurt her. Due to that she lost her older brother and felt that her parents didn't care for her. She has struggled with so much pain and heartache that it made her very timid and closed off. Watching Grace grow into herself and really open up was absolutely beautiful. She blossomed into such an amazing woman. She survived it all and came out victorious.

Evan was an awesome man. He is a famous actor, so he's always in the public eye. He had his fair share of woman, but hasn't settled down after his own heartache. He is loving, tender, funny, sexy, hardworking and down to earth. I love everything about him. He had his own issues, but when he knew when he met the one he would be the man she would need. Everything about Evan was just amazing. Hated what happened to him with the action scene -- I nearly died!

The romance was absolutely amazing. I loved every single about it! Evan and Grace knew they had a strong attraction to one another from the moment they laid eyes on each other. The sexual tension between them was fierce, but I love that they took it slow. They fell in love before ever having any sex which made it so genuine. The fact that they both had their heartbroken, but overcame them and found each other was beautiful.

I really enjoyed this novel and took my time reading it so that I wouldn't miss any key details between Grace and Evan. I definitely could have read this quickly, but I opted to just take it in all slow. I definitely recommend this novel.

This book didn't evoke much of a response from me, which is rare. Usually, I finish a book and then just want to talk about it with everyone. I think the missing component for me was tension. It needed more of it and introduced earlier. I flew through the last 15% of this book because that's where all the story ended up. If the entire book was as action packed as the last of it, then this would have been a hit. I did enjoy the story line, but I just needed a bit more.

I received an advance reader copy of this book that I have chosen to review.

This has to be the most beautifully and well written book that I have read this year! I could not stop reading this book. I could not put it down.... and I can not tell you one thing I didn't like about it. It was amazing... well maybe one thing, I didn't want it to end! It could have gone on another 200 pages, and I would have not cared!!

A Promise Kept is a sweet story about Grace, who is also an author who meets her new neighbor, Evan, who is a HUGE movie star. This isn't your typical movie star romance. Evan is sweet and understanding and caring. I loved him from the start. He was funny and charming. Added Bonus, He is from Boston. LOVE IT!!

Grace has not really dated. She is a beautiful and intelligent women, who has issues because of the death of her brother, and her distant parents. These issues are huge factors in her whole life. I can't say I blame her. She lost her family all in one night, even though her parents are alive, they moved far away from her and they barely speak.

Grace has a hard time opening up and letting people in. Evan is doing his best to break down her wall and see him for the person he is as well as getting her to open up and let him see the real Grace.

I found this to be a beautiful and emotional story. I love the chemistry and storyline, I loved the characters and sub characters in the book. I enjoyed the whole overall experience. This book has to be one of the best books of 2016.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun story, the main character Evan was hilarious, and I loved that Grace was a romance author.
Grace's friends are all fun, and they all like Evan and think the two of them belong together. In the end it takes a very scary event to force Grace to face how she really feels about Evan and decide that she can be with him, and still keep that promise she made her brother so long ago.

I had a few issues with some of the dialogue, such as characters constantly saying the other person's name almost every time they said something to each other. It seemed a bit much to me. A few grammatical errors, such as "sewing oats" as opposed to "sowing oats" like it should be.

Other than that, the story was pretty addictive, I had trouble stopping to go back to work or sleep when I was working. Great characters, great story.

A sweet movie star next door and the troubled and guilt ridden property manager/ author with an explosive chemistry. The question is can they help each other with what they are each struggling with and fix what ails them? I thought this was a nice read, perfect for a cold day or a spring read. It has its funny moments and it has its sexy and sweet moments but I found myself with slightly higher expectations that what came out-- it was a good book, I throughly enjoyed reading it--- I just found myself with a little something just not quite hitting the mark, and I am not able to pin point exactly what that was.

3.5-4 stars. Loved the premise of the hot celebrity movie star pursuing a literal girl next door type who has closed off her heart. Evan Matthews meets Grace Clark and is instantly attracted and thinks that for the duration of his filming in town, he and Grace could maybe have some fun together. I have trouble understanding why any guy would pursue a girl so seriously when she is not at all the casual type, especially with the knowledge that he isn't going to stick around. Still, Evan doesn't give up and Grace can't deny that she feels something in return. While I enjoyed how Evan slowly wormed his way into Grace's heart, I was a bit at odds with Grace coming out of her shell because at times she seemed so shy and awkward and other times she turned into this seemingly veteran vixen so it was hard to reconcile that as being the same person. I liked the characters and storyline and would definitely like to read more about the secondary characters.

I think I have a crush on Anissa Garcia. I read A Promise Kept in one sitting. Evan and Gracie’s journey was poignant, sweet and so romantic.

It was so beautifully written, I was utterly under the spell of the author’s writing.

Gracie is the kind of person to push people away. After a tragic event in her life, she guarded and protected her heart. Strong walls, with deep scars which haven't healed yet. She is full of sass, bubbly and passionate. When this author met her new neighbor, Evan, a famous actor, her life is gonna change for ever.

Evan is not your typical famous actor. It was so refreshing to read about him. Charming, living his dream, meeting Gracie was an electroshock, the thrill and want he couldn’t feel even if he loves his job. I really had a crush on Evan, because he was the one to challenge and push Gracie out of her comfort zone, to love her, entirely, flaws and all.

The banter was incredible and flawless, the chemistry between the main characters was palpable. The storyline was scorching, describing the characters’ feelings in such a way, bringing almost the emotions into life.

A Promise Kept was an incredible book, from the storyline to the characters, I was hooked. Each one has its part, and all you want is to read each story to come. All was melting perfectly. Evan and Grace were just stunning and challenging. I appreciated how straightforward this story was. Efficient and straight to the guts. Just reading about how two people fall in love and make things work, no matter what happens, because that’s what you do when you love someone, you support, challenge

I was amazed by the way the author could balance the emotional parts with this hint of sweetness, fun and so swoony moments. Sometimes I was hurting with the characters and for most part of the book, it just made me smile. Book crush alert!

Grace was at a signing, when she was called away for an emergency broken pipe. When she got to the house she met Evan Matthews. When he told her that the broken pipe wasn't an emergency. She was upset about leaving her signing. Evan was trying very hard to charm Grace, she wasn't allowing any of it. Grace had a get together with her friends Marla and Jamie after she told them about the A lister movie star living in her neighborhood. Jamie decided that she was going to order pizza and have it delivered. What happens next.
Grace has had a lot of heart ache in her life, she is an author, she is a property manager. She also loves antiques and loves to refurbished them. Evan is an actor, he is the second oldest in his family. He has an older sister and a younger sister, who he is very close with along with his parents. He is from Boston. Zach is Evan's childhood friend, Evan's family took him in. He is Evan's assistant. Funny, Sensitive and a geek. Josh is Evan's trainer, has a dog named Hank. he became Evan's close friend and confidant since the filming of the Ending Series eight years ago. Jamie is Grace's friend, married to Dean and has a little boy. Marla is Grace's friend, hates gym heads. She is trying to be healthier.
This is an amazing read by Anissa Garcia and I can honestly say that it wont be my last. This book is very well well written and the characters are very well developed. I loved that I felt very connected to the characters and that I found it hard for me to put this book down.

My favorite line, " You're afraid of what others will think about your story, but nothing ever come from playing it safe, babe."
Grace, a struggling writer meets Hollywood actor Evan Matthews. He's smitten and she's afraid to trust any man. The banter between Grace and Evan is electrifying, fun, and sexy. Grace is determined to keep a promise made years earlier. Her fears threaten to reveal a painful past. Facing these fears is not something Grace is ready to handle.
This debut novel by Anissa Garcia touched my heart and soul. Everyone makes promises that sometimes are impossible to keep. Especially when it comes to affairs of the heart. This is a must read for those like me whom need a story that's not only a fun read, but uplifting and encouraging as well. Kudo's to this new author! You've got a great career ahead of you. 5 Star's! "I like Oak tree's too!"

Great debut standalone novel! I thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced, easy fun sexy read. Evan and Grace were next door neighbors. She's the property manager for their properties and he's a Hollywood star. In true alpha male fashion he pursues her but she's not impressed. Grace has some unresolved demons that prevent get from getting involved. Not to be deterred, Evan takes it as a challenge, and uses some creative convincing to get her to go out with him took making their banter funny, and sexy. The results well are well worth the challenge!

TOP 10 RECOMMENDED

In one word for A Promise Kept is WOW. This is the first I have read by Anissa Garcia and cannot wait what is in store from this talented author. I loved that even though Evan is an actor he is really just a normal guy completing Grace in every way. There is laughter, family, love and most of all healing in this book. I would love to see what else Annissa Garcia has coming for her readers definitely interested in Josh and Marla`s story. Loved it.

A Promise Kept, Anissa Garcia's debut novel, is a standalone, Hollywood contemporary romance told in dual POV. I really like both main characters, historical romance author and property manager, Grace Clark, and Hollywood heartthrob, Evan Matthews. The secondary characters were also very likeable.

Evan is a famous actor best known for the role of action hero, Captain Abrams. Renting a place in Austin, Texas while filming a movie there, he meets Grace when she responds to a call from his assistant to fix a leaky pipe. Evan is immediately attracted to and intrigued by Grace - especially since she doesn't seem impressed by him or interested in him. He sets out to change her mind.

Due to a tragedy she experienced, Grace is very cautious when it comes to relationships and tends to keep men at arm's length. Initially, Evan just wants to have a good time with her for the few months that he'll be in town. He sees Grace as a challenge to win. But as he spends time getting to know her, he realizes that he wants much more.

I really enjoyed this book. There was a lot of fun and humorous banter between the main and secondary characters. I enjoyed Even's sweet and patient persistence as he worked to win Grace over and waited for her to be ready to open up to him. It's a sweet story about falling in love and learning to trust again.

A Promise Kept is Anissa Garcia's debit novel and it is a great start for her. Trust me, you will be hooked on her novels after you read A Promise Kept. I truly enjoyed this novel. It was a great romance.

A Promise Kept is a story of seeing love blossom rather than love at first sight. I felt drawn in seeing how Grace fights tooth and nail to keep her distance from Evan. Situations in Grace's life has left her with a wall up. One no one has never been able to penetrate. Not even the sexy movie star neighbor can stand a chance against Grace. Or can he?

Evan isn't your typical star, none of the stereotypical traits can be found in him. He's definitely a genuine good person, which is something Grace has a hard time seeing. It's a good thing Evan knows what he wants and he wants to get to know Grace. Evan knows Grace needs to trust someone... let someone in. To take down that wall she's hiding behind. He tries to help little by little by forming a friendship. A friendship that blossoms into something extraordinary.

Anissa's characters were developed nicely, giving them the perfect story line. Giving them a truly heartwarming happy ending. A Promise Kept is on my top reads of 2016 with 5 stars!

4 1/2 Stars! WOW ... what a great debut novel! Evan is the hunky movie star who doesn't have "relationships" with women. While on location filming in Texas, he rents in a gated community. Along comes Grace, the property manager, to fix Evan's leaky pipe. She has had a crush on Evan since he started acting and can't believe that he is now living next door to her. Grace doesn't do relationships either ... oh yeah, or one night stands or dates! Grace feels that she is not Evan's type ... they come from two different worlds. But Evan was smitten from the first time he saw her and can't think of anyone else but her. He's even wants to try a relationship with her. I like the fact that they didn't just fall into bed right away, but wow when they do, it is extremely steamy! I loved all the characters in this book and can't wait for additional books on Zach, Josh and Marla.

I received this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

It took me a while to get into this book. I was so confused on what Grace was hiding. I was so happy that it wasn't my worst fears. Evan was a super sweet alpha that stepped out of his comfort zone because he knew there was something special about Grace. When I finally began to bond with the characters and road the roller coaster called life for them I was happy, sad, crying ugly tears and then jumping for joy. I just wish that the ending wasn't so swift and neat. It could have explained a little more but I would love to read more from author Anissa Garcia. And keep in touch with Grace and Evan.

A Promise Kept had me wondering who's promise the title was referring to. There is emotional depth to this book that will bring the reader to their knees at times. The level of emotions that jumps off the pages and grabs ahold of the reader is amazing. The story is well written with great character development. It is not a super quick read, at least for me, because of the emotional roller coaster. But it was well worth the read.

Title: A Promise Kept
Author: Anissa Garcia
Rating: 3.5/5

Thanks to NetGalley and AG Romance Reads, LLC for letting me receive a digital copy of this book.

I've never been a big fan of books that include celebrities as main characters. Of course, now you're thinking, "Why did she decide to request this one then?" It's more about the story line that had me hooked. And I don't regret requesting A Promise Kept at all, because fortunately, Evan being an actor wasn't the main part of the story. Not everything revolved around that. It's a topic, yes, but there's more to it than his job.

I think all girls will be able to relate to Grace. At least a little bit. Or a bit more. She's a writer, which makes it so hard to hate her (though there is absolutely no reason for that anyway) and has got some insecurities like the rest of us. She's one of these real characters. You kind of get the impression the written story is based on somebody's real life, like someone told Anissa Garcia her story and she decided to write it down. I was impressed with that, because I completely forgot this was fiction. There's this one special event in her life, or let's say there are two special events in her life, that made a deep impact on her. For the worse, I mean. She still can't get over these two things that happened in her life, even after all these years.

And then there is Evan, her new neigbor, who challanges everything she ever believed in or promised, for that matter. Right from the start, his intentions with her are pretty clear. He doesn't even care about hiding his feelings for her and is one of the most patient guys I have ever read about. He's too sweet to be real (well, duh, he is fictional). He suspects there must be more to Grace than she reveals and is curious to find out all about her. The chemistry between these two is unbelievable. Well done, Anissa Garcia!

Also, you won't get tired of reading about Evan's and Grace's friends. They are all so hilarious and if they'll ever get their own voices, I will definitely most likely read them.

A Promise Kept is a story for the heart, whether you want a book that breaks it or mends it. Doesn't matter. Both things will happen, I can tell you that much. You'll feel sorry for Grace, you'll want her to make out with Evan already, you'll want to kiss Evan yourself and you will want to slap him (oh, how I wanted to slap him because he couldn't see what he did wrong in a certain situation). These two characters fit with each other so perfectly, it's hard to see straight from all the chemistry between them.

SWOON!

This is your first summer read! This should be mandatory reading this summer, involving at the minimum a pool/bubble bath/ or sandy beach in the reading mix. I personally found myself locked away in the bathroom finding the privacy of a luxurious bubble bath and my kindle the perfect beginning to my summer.

If you know me, you know I lean towards the darker reads. Sweet reads don't tend to hold my interest very long. That being said there are a few authors that can write sweet romance that I pick up in a heart beat. (That's right ladies...I have a soft side *gsap lol) Now added to that list is author Anissa Garcia her debut novel A Promise Kept is swoon worthy romance that made this girl's icy heart melt.

Evan Matthews.... I say again...Evan Matthews.... he is ... well...He's perfect! He is every girl's dream! No games No deep dark tortured past that makes him an a$$. Evan Matthews is every girl's dream! Good looking, romantic, fun, down to earth guy that makes every girls heart go pitter patter. Grace Clark (our leading lady) walks into his life and he is instantly drawn to her independence, quick wit, and wet t-shirt...what he's a man you can't blame him!

Grace is strong. Yes she has some things holding her back (I mean we need something that keeps us turning the page!) But she's a strong woman. Again if you know me, you know I loath a mousy woman. Grace is what I look for in my books.

Grace fights her attraction to Evan and that's where the fun begins. Evan fights to spend time with her and what we get is swoon worthy and laugh out load moments. In fact my cheeks hurt from reading because I was smiling the entire time.

Personally I love when you get great friends added to the mix. The secondary characters are wonderful additions to this novel. Grace and Evan's friends added so much more personality and depth to your reading pleasure, and I can't wait to see what may come next. (I haven't seen or heard of a novel staring some of their friends but I do hope it happens *hint hint)

Again, this is you first summer read, and a perfect beginning to Anissa's writing career and I can't wait to see what's next from her!

I wasn't really a fan of this book. It's not that it was bad, it's just that there wasn't anything special about it. To be honest, it was a bit boring.

Not much happened in this book. There was the Halloween scene and the Thanksgiving scene and that was really the only memorable events that happened. I didn't feel like Grace and Evan had much of a connection. I know Grace was trying to act like she wasn't enamored by him, but everything just felt so forced. To be honest, she was a pretty boring, whiny character and often times came off as childish. She lacked depth and I definitely wouldn't call her a strong heroine.

Evan was pretty funny; he had some good one liners, so he came off as charismatic. My issue with his character was even though he was actively pursuing Grace, he still came off as a player who was marking his territory. He seemed unnaturally overeager when it came to Grace so I just didn't believe in their relationship.

I thought what he did with

I wish Grace would have regained her confidence and overcame her insecurities on her own, but she NEEDED Evan in order to do that. I'm not a fan of that in my h's, I want them to be strong and to grow on their own.

Another issue I had with this book was that it was written in the 3rd person and I can't stand that. While that is a personal preference, I have read other books written in the 3rd person and they haven't bothered me too much because they were done well. The way these characters spoke was so old and outdated that I couldn't get past it. That is a trap that a lot of authors fall into when writing in the 3rd person.

Unfortunately, I don't think I would recommend this book. Especially since I ended up skimming most of it. While it wasn't awful and I was able to get through it, there were so many times I wanted to give up on it. Ultimately I didn't, but that was mostly because I received an ARC and as such, I needed to finish it.

My Thoughts

Sorry Promise, you’re the third romance book I’ve read in a row that has mentioned this description so unfortunately I’m bringing it up during your review.. What the hell is up with all these women smelling like strawberries?! Am I the only female on planet Earth that doesn’t smell like a fruit?? I’m starting to develop a complex… Should I go out and purchase some strawberry shower gel?! But seriously, am I the only person who thinks strawberry scent smells gross? There are so many other things that would be better scent wise. But anyways…end rant.

A Promise Kept is your basic Hollywood romance, only it’s set in Texas. But other than that it’s everything you would expect from a HEA romance. Thats not to say it was boring, it just was nothing original. The romance was good, the sex was good, the emotional healing was okay. Mostly it was just really predictable. I kept hoping things would go one way even when I knew they would go the other. And I really was hoping that Grace’s parents would actually be assholes to prove a point to Evan but alas, it was not meant to be.

As a debut novel Garcia’s first book was extremely well done, it’s not often that I can read a first work and lose myself in the story without judging the author’s writing. So not the case here, A Promise Kept reads like a veteran author has wrote it, which is fantastic! I have no doubt that Garcia will find a place amongst well known and well loved authors. I look forward to seeing what she works up next.

Megan's Review

This was all kinds of cute and pun funny but for everything I wish for in reading… I wish it wasn’t so ON as soon as it started.

It… I needed a little development in the storyline and with the characters so when those cute come ons happened, because Evan had a plethora of them, it wasn’t as instant

“What are you doing at my gym?”

“Getting tortured for the sake of art.”

“Well, you play your role very well.”
“So, you’re saying I got a rocking bod? Wait til you see me without my clothes.”

I liked the idea of this book, the characters themselves and especially the male/female friendships. It was definitely a high point in this read. Another good thing was grace didn’t exactly fall for Evan immediately, at least not vocally and to his face. She swooned internally trying to kick his advances off. It was hard not to when it all seemed perfect when he gave the goods.

“We’re just hanging out for a little while. It’s not a party.”

“We’re playing poker. You gentlemen ca join us!”

“I love playing games.”

“I’m sure you do.”

As Evan was known as the player type actor, his want of Grace was easily seen as superficial… To me..

“Listen, if you see Grace around other guys, keep an eye on her.”

“Other guys?”

“You know, just take care of her for me.”

“Boom! You owe me a crispy, new one hundred dollar bill, you f*cker! Zach said you had it bad for the little romance author next door. I just assumed you wanted to sample and get her out of your system. Didn’t think you were actually serious about her.”

No guts…

No hooking me…

Just a good pass of my time…

Evan Mathews is a Hollywood Heartthrob known as Captain Abrams. Grace is an author and a property owner and manager, as she explains it-not every author gets good contracts. Ouch. Grace is renting to Evan. (I feel like I should say Evan Mathews throughout the review as was done in the book, but will refrain.) Considering they are living across the hall from each other there is plenty of interaction between the two. *winks
Nice story, exceptionally funny moments in this contemporary romance. There is also a good deal of attention to detail paid to the secondary characters. I appreciated feeling like I really knew everyone within the story. Grace's friends are pretty awesome and the underlying romances between the friends were equally entertaining.
An initial bet at a poker game sets some of the story up for us with Evan owing Grace help with refurbishing a desk, dinner and clean up, two dates, and a trip to Boston. Sweet deal. Here's the kicker, Evan is so convinced Grace is the girl for him he folds on a better hand in order to lose the game but win her heart. That right there had me. This guy is a true romantic. I can get down with that!
Heads up that Grace can be a little thick headed, and for a romance writer... She's clearly not a believer. Thank the book gods for Evan.

Anissa's characters were developed nicely, giving them the perfect storyline. Giving them a truly heartwarming happy ending. A Promise Kept is on my top reads of 2016 with 5 stars!

I stayed up late into the night finishing this sweet romance in one sitting. By around the fourth chapter, I was completely enthralled and bought into the main characters. I loved how real this love story felt. It's not one of those improbable whirlwind romances where boy meets girl and lives happily ever after in the space of one weekend. Grace and Evan got to know each other bit by bit over a reasonable amount of time.

Anissa also did a superb job writing the sex scenes! They were emotional and passionate but again, so realistic. The characters' humanity shined through the little moments of awkwardness, which just made me relate to their love all the more.

This was Anissa's first published book, so there is a bit of room for improvement - mostly in the dialogue. There are a few moments where the conversation seems to jump from subject to subject unnaturally, but never to the extent that I was pulled out of the story. Honestly, the only thing I disliked was Evan's range of cheesy pet names. I'm all for a well placed baby, but cupcake, baby cakes, sweetie pie, and pumpkin are a bit cringe worthy for me.

Overall, I really enjoyed this read - heartwarming, uplifting, and beautiful tempered by just the right amount of tragic.

I received a copy of this book prior to its release. I absolutely loved this book. The character development was well written, the pace of the book has a great flow and the story line is one that is heartfelt and truthful. While many may naturally assume the character of Evan Matthews may be the stereotypical moviestar heartthrob next door, he possesses so many qualities that made me feel as if I was reading a love story with my husband as the lead character. Matthews embodies all the characteristics of a real man, of how a real man would care for a woman he loves, how he would take care of her, look at her, think of her, feel for her. He is thoughtfully written, and above all, he exists! I know because as I said earlier, he's the embodiment of my husband! And Grace is stubborn and lovely. She is cautious yet eager to fall in love. But with so much hurt in her past, its easy to see how she is so guarded.

Set in Austin, I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good ole fashioned love story set in modern time. It's easily become one of my new favorite books that I look forward to reading again and again!
