Sweet Valley University #27

Elizabeth and Todd Forever

Rate this book
Elizabeth Wakefield is in love...with Todd Wilkins. Todd was only supposed to cheer up a brokenhearted Elizabeth--help her forget about longtime love Tom Watts. But the familiar taste of Todd's gentle kiss and the feel of his strong arms around her makes Elizabeth's head spin.

You never get a second chance to make an impression. Jessica Wakefield learns this the hard way when she slams her Jeep into a sports car on the freeway. Jessica blows up at the crazy driver. Who cares? She'll never see the woman again. But Jessica does...the night her boyfriend Nick Fox takes her home to meet his parents.

Francine Paula Pascal was an American author best known for her Sweet Valley series of young adult novels. Sweet Valley High, the backbone of the collection, was made into a television series, which led to several spin-offs, including The Unicorn Club and Sweet Valley University. Although most of these books were published in the 1980s and 1990s, they remained so popular that several titles were re-released decades later.

SWEET VALLEY UNIVERSITY
Written by Francine Pascal
General Review for series as I cannot remember each novel.

I read Sweet Valley University when I was in junior high school to high school. While there is sexual content it is very mild (not explicit) compared to teen books today. If you like the Sweet Valley High you will love this series as it continues with the twins' story as they attend University and are away from their parents. I am not sure how they would relate to teens today as this was before cell phones were common and social media. They are fun teen romances with "real-life" situation. I did not complete the series as I started to save for school so I wasn't able to collect them any further (they are out of print). I still have the books I bought and may try to read one again (I did reread the series a few times).

Hopefully you haven’t read the titles in the Sweet Valley University series in advance, otherwise you’d be very confused. Elizabeth Wakefield starts the series happy with her high school sweetheart Todd Wilkins, then gets dumped and falls in love with Tom Watts, then gets dumped and starts to fall for. . . Todd again. Why do they have to have such similar names?

As a female reader who has lived through a broken heart, I did feel tons of sympathy towards Elizabeth as she sobbed her way through the pages. Her twin Jessica had a bit of a fluffy plot this time around, and many of the supporting cast weren’t featured in this volume, but there’s still plenty to keep you entertained. However, since I’m not the biggest fan of either Tom or Todd, I wasn’t rooting for Liz to make up with either one. Todd tried to pressure her into a physical relationship before she was ready, and Tom was vicious and cruel. In this volume, he vacillates between missing Elizabeth terribly and going out of his way to hurt and humiliate her in public so she knows how much he hates her. He shows himself to be a despicable person who doesn’t deserve a second chance, but since there are thirty more books in the series, I’m not holding my breath that he’s completely out of the picture.
