A fun and flirty crossover novel from bestselling authors, Jennifer Bernard (Love Between the Bases) and Erin Nicholas (Sapphire Falls)!
Caitlyn Murray has never let on that she’s had fantasies about her brother's friend Eli Anderson for years. She'd do anything for the sexy baseball player who walked away from stardom to stay in Sapphire Falls and take care of his family. But she and Eli are friends. Just friends.
So when her brother hatches a plan to get Eli to the pro baseball try-out for the Kilby Catfish and another chance at his dream, Caitlyn is all in. After all, what's a little kidnapping among friends?
A spot on the pitcher's mound for the Catfish isn't the only tempting thing about the spontaneous road trip. Eli already knows that Caitlyn is as sweet as the candies she makes for the Sapphire Falls bakery, but alone with her overnight in the tiny motel room in Kansas, it's impossible to resist the urge to take a little taste.
But when that taste leads to falling for the girl next door just as his front door is moving hundreds of miles away, can Eli really have it all? Or do they have too many strikes against them?

This was perfectly fine by all standards. Let's be honest, there wasn't all that much to it but it did it's job, it was nice and easy and simple and I supported the couple, they were cute. The only thing that got me was that this wasn't a particularly long book therefore there was absolutely zero need for the amount of flipping and flopping that went on. They were together and then they weren't every like 2 chapters. I just couldn't back it.
Brief review: There were some great tropes in this story like being in love with brother’s best friend, road trip, and forced proximity, however my connection to the romance just wasn’t there. I just thought thing progressed way too quickly. Granted they had feelings for each other for a long while, yet I wasn’t feeling the pining and yearning that I expect from all the unrequited love. There was no real tension or angst because they jumped into bed quicker. Quicker than I wanted. I wanted more build up to that moment. I wanted it to be drawn out between them. Don’t get me wrong the sexy times and passions they displayed were hot and entertaining. I just wish they waited a little longer until they did the deed. Though he did show her his feelings with quite a few gestures, I did feel like the focus of them was physical. I wanted a balance between the physical and emotional a bit more. I did enjoy the sweet moments, but there were too few of them and I wanted more. I liked the baseball storyline. I liked the family storyline. It really wasn’t a bad story, but I couldn’t connect with it because it wasn’t giving me what I wanted, which was disappointing.

These two authors never disappoint. I've read both their works before and thoroughly enjoyed the ease of their book so I jumped at the chance to see what they could do together. And I am SO glad that I did because Getting Wound Up was a perfect combination of both their talents!! Their styles blended together perfectly and if you didn't know this book was co-written, you would never be able to tell. Their voices were seamless! The story-line was adorable and fun and pretty darn sexy as well. Both our leads would do anything to make sure the other succeeded in life and it was a real treat to read it. I'm very excited now to read even more Sapphire Falls and Love Between the Bases novels!
Must say this book had me hooked from the very beginning. The characters had such a dimension and a spirit that made you want to keep reading. Caitlyn is light and airy, and oh so sassy. Eli is all too serious and sexy as all get out. Yet, he still carries a dream deep down in his gut. So, a master plan was hatched by his best friend’s Bryan, Ty, and yes, Caitlyn. To get him to his number one dream, to be in baseball, the pros. Even if it means kidnapping him to do it. Caitlyn has the ability to charm her way into anyone’s heart and with her sweetness, she is the innocent one that no one will ever suspect especially Eli. Even you the reader will be sucked in. She is so sassy yet, guarded. She is a romantic yet, extremely practical almost too much for her own good. She puts family and friends first before herself. Causing her own heart to ache and break when she should think of herself first. Eli is a loving son who when his father, Chip fell ill and was put in a wheelchair he came home from college to care for him, his little sister, and their hardware store. Leaving a sure thing of a pro career in baseball. He for sure was on the fast track. One good thing he kept up his training and was in shape. His arm was good but was it good enough he wasn’t sure anymore. Cait was enough for both of them. She believed in them and most of all in him. Their friendship was dear to Eli so he tried hard to believe her. See how these two finally make their dreams come true by being truthful. For once the brother was for the friend loving his sister. A pleasant twist to a love story. See where it goes. I give this: 5++++ stars. Free on Amazon. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com.
Caitlyn Murray has been crushing on her brother's friend, Eli, forever. She jumps at the chance to help Eli Anderson realize his dream of playing professional baseball, by kidnapping him and taking him to tryouts. Eli had left his career behind when his dad had a stroke, but his friends and family know it's time for Eli to give it a shot again. I liked this co-written book that included Sapphire Falls with Love Between the Bases. It was sweet and sexy and included a lot of great characters! I really liked seeing how Brady was doing - I love his spirit!!
Love this two author crossover. This friends to lovers story has it all. Friendship, loyalty, determination and selflessness. Both Erin Nicholas and Jennifer Bernard are sensitive, humorous writers who bring you into their worlds effortlessly. In this combination of the Sapphire Falls and Love Between the Bases series Both series are filled with loving, generous and thoughtful characters. In this book Eli Anderson has been friends forever with Caitlin Murray. He sees Caitlin only as his friend's little sister and nothing more. Caitlin has had a huge crush on Eli forever. She's just about to give up on Eli, but there's a chance the latest plan for him will help her meet her long time dream. He's given up on his long time dream of being a MLB pitcher, to run his dad's Sapphire Falls hardware store. Now his loyal friends have decided he should not give up his dream and have discovered a way to help him reach his dreams. With Caitlin as support, belief in his own talent and the dedication of their family and friends it is clear dreams can be achieved with love and patience.
Getting Wound Up by Jennifer Bernard and Erin Nicholas is a fantastic sport romance. Team Bernard/Nicholas have given us a book that is well-written. The characters are amazing and just plain lovable. Eli gave up his dream of playing baseball to take over the family hardware business when his father had a stroke. Caitlyn came home when her brother was injured while biking. When the families plan Eli's kidnapping to get him to baseball try-outs Caitlyn becomes his abductor. Eli and Caitlyn's story is filled with drama, humor, sizzle and is just plain fun to read. I enjoyed this book from cover to cover and look forward to reading more from both Jennifer Bernard and Erin Nicholas. Getting Wound Up is book 2.5 of the Love Between The Bases Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I though I'd try this book as I found it for free and I have read some if Erin Nicholas's books before and love her work. The storyline was great. I enjoyed reading about Eli and Caitlyn and seeing how they try to work their relationship out while still following their dreams.
My main issue with with the book was that it kept switching between 1st and 3rd person POV , maybe because there's 2 authors with different writing styles?
I found this book very hard to put down! It may seem unbelievable that a 26 year old that “gave up” on his dream could have it “all”, but it didn’t feel unbelievable as you read about Eli and Caitlyn’s love story. There were just enough steamy and romantic details that had the reader cheering for these two kids, and enough practicality that you could relate to as the reader. Very well done! I hope to read about more of Sapphire Falls’ residents!

Caitlin grew up with crush on her big brother's best friend and tried to move away but after her brother has accident she moves home to help take care of him. Eli has gave up his chance at a baseball career to go home and take care of his Dad. Of course they get thrown together and discover they haves loved each other all along.
Eli and Caitlyn were so good together! They put everyone else before themselves and almost missed out on each other. This was such a good book that I found it hard to put down and couldn't wait to see what happened with these two.
This story of Eli and Caitlyn helped to fill the reader in on more of the people and relationships of Sapphire Falls. It's another book that shows the goodness and caring of a small close knit community!
Nice feel good romance that features a small town and a couple who feel tied to responsibilities rather than reaching for their dreams. Characters are very likeable and it’s an enjoyable journey.
Combine my favorite small town with my favorite baseball team? Heck yeah!!! I loved this crossover! So, so good! I can't wait for more from both of these authors.
Could not put this one down! Eli is the strong silent type and Caitlyn is the sweetest of sweet. Watching them navigate the waters of romance is wonderful!
Caitlyn Murray would do anything to see the man she's fantasized about for years finally follow his dream of getting into Baseball's major league ranks. Especially after he sacrificed that very dream to return to Sapphire Falls and run his family's business after his dad had a stroke. So, if she has to kidnap him to make it happen, then she'll do it.
Eli Anderson has always thought of his best friend's sister as sweet and innocent. But the moment Caitlyn tricks him into taking a drive with her, he begins to see her in a different light. A light where the two of them together alone on a road trip could lead to the best time of his life, or cause him to lose her forever if they decide to yield to the strong chemistry that exists between them.
Although I haven't read any of the Between the Bases books by Ms. Bernard, I absolutely love the Sapphire Falls series by Ms. Nicholas, and I've got to say that this book encompassing the brother's best friend trope was another worthwhile read for both series. The couple's growing relationship, the well-written dialogue that was filled with plenty of light-hearted moments, and the obstacle-packed plot made this story captivating and so fast-paced that I couldn't believe how quickly I finished it.
I really liked both the main and secondary characters. The heroine's brother is trouble with a capital T in the way that he does things that are beyond his capabilities. Then again, I couldn't blame him for wanting to make the most out of life, and do what he thinks is best for everyone, especially Caitlyn and his mom. He can't afford to continue making his mother believe that everything is fine when he knows he's not going to get back to normal. When he knows that he'll continue to need his wheelchair.
Caitlyn is loyal, kind, caring, and tenacious. She would do anything to help her family including sacrificing her chance at a future with Eli. Then there's the way she helps the hero by giving him a rundown of his pitching skills during the tryout that proved how much she wants him to succeed. Plus, it shows they have something in common -- a love for baseball. While Eli, he's confident, loyal and determined to do his best to succeed because it seems that following his dream is not only good for him but also his dad. He's also determined to prove to Caitlyn that the two of them belong together by sacrificing his chance at playing in the major league. However, I liked that she didn't allow that to happen. That she, too, proved that they could be together once her brother gives her a good talking to about how it's her time to be happy. Instead, of her continuing to put her happiness on hold for his sake.
Overall, this was an incredible read where the sex scenes were hot and illustrated how good this couple are together. The way this story was wrapped up was perfect, as everyone is so proud of Eli achieving his dream and want to see how good he is by seeing him play. I would recommend Getting Wound Up, if you enjoy the brother's best friend trope.
This delightful collaborative romance by Erin Nicholas and Jennifer Bernard tells the story of Eli from Sapphire Falls, and Cait, a long time friend who just so happens to be his best friend's younger sister (yes, it's that trope!). Eli's had to put his dream of a professional baseball career on the back burner after his father had a stroke and he had to come home to help him run his hardware store. But it hasn't stopped him dreaming of one day getting that chance to prove himself, and when Cait 'kidnaps' him to go to an open tryout, he's hesitant but decides to take the risk. While at the tryouts though, he starts to see Cait in a new light - a very attractive and all grown up light at that. They celebrate his tryout with some sexy times, and even though Cait is torn between wanting Eli to follow his dream and keeping him safe at home in Sapphire Falls, the choice will be out of her hands.
What I enjoyed about this story was two things - first of all, I really loved the baseball scenes! I feel a little bit invested now in Eli's teammates, and I have to say that I'm definitely going to have to investigate Erin's co-author Jennifer further, because I want to know more about these guys and this town too! And secondly, I thought the relationship with Eli and Caitlyn was very realistic - they both have feelings for each other that they are willing to share and while they share some steamy scenes together, I was just as interested in their emotional relationship too.
Eli and Cait must find a compromise that will enable their relationship to flourish even with Eli's dreams of a major league baseball career, and this leads to a wonderful happy ending for the couple. I loved seeing the glimpses of Cait's brother Bryan, his strength and determination to work through a life changing injury and I'm looking forward to reading his story next in the Sapphire Falls series. This combination of baseball and small town romance with Cait and Eli was a home run for me. 4.5 stars. If you're looking for a low angst, sweet and sexy romance, you'll find it here.
Note: a copy of this story was provided by the authors for review.
So I have always been a big fan of romances where the heroine is the best friends little sister, I mean I love the dynamics where more is at stake then just one budding relationship. I thought this was an interesting set up for the story, ending up in a hotel room alone is a great way to see if sparks are going to fly.
So I felt for Eli right from the beginning because you could just tell he was a good guy. I mean he gave up everything he wanted to go back home after his father had a stroke and now he is helping him run the family hardware store because his father can’t do it himself anymore. I loved the dynamics between Eli and his family, you can really tell that they care about each other. I also really liked how Eli was just a good guy in general, I mean he wants the best for everyone, he wants to be helpful, and what can I say I love an athlete who is a good guy.
So Caitlyn is a sweet girl as well, and you can tell right from the beginning that she is super attracted to Eli and that she wants something more from him then just friendship. It’s funny because whenever the subject of her brother comes up, well its when she reveals herself. She doesn’t want to be looked at as her brothers’ little sister, she wants to be looked at by Eli an attractive girl he wants more from.
This is a sweet little romance, and the pacing was pretty good in it as well. I always worry when two authors get together to write a book that it won't read cohesively, but this book did, and I was glad for that. What I will say though is that the story was a little bit to nice and sweet for me. The characters were just super good and sweet people, and honestly I liked my romances to be a little bit more on the gritty side of things, or at least people that read more realistically, flaws and all. I don't know sometimes I am in the mood for sugar and sometimes I am not, but I will say that there was some really cute bantering going on between the them. If you like a sweet small town romance with some really cute banter then this might be just the book for you.
I enjoyed my previous entree into the Love Between the Bases story about the Kilby Catfish, so how could I resist reading a crossover into Sapphire Falls?
Eli Anderson - At nineteen he gave up his chance to go pro-baseball to quit college and come home to take care of his father after a horrible stroke. He's kept up his baseball regime and still loves to throw pitches, even if its just duct tape to the stock boy in his family's hardware store. He's an honorable, sweet, loving son and a bit of a player.
Caitlyn Murray - She is so dang cute!!! She's a confectioner that came home from school in Denver to take care of her older brother when he got put in a wheelchair part time. She reads the real estate section of the newspaper to Eli's dad, Chip, who is also in a wheelchair due to his stroke.
Eli and Caitlyn have been friends forever. Caitlyn is harboring a secret crush on Eli and Eli, while knowing how beautiful and curvy, Caitlyn is, he has never thought of her as anything other than his best friends little sister. All that changes when Bryan, Caitlyn's brother and Ty, their friend play matchmaker and have Caitlyn kidnap Eli to take him to Kansas City to try out for pro-baseball.
A little Yager, a little kissing, one hotel room and boom... friends to lovers!
I loved how we got to go into a little bit of Sapphire Falls and then a little bit of the Kilby Catfish. I haven't read any Sapphire Falls books but I will be reading them now. I'd love to see Bryan end up with his brunette. We get to see a different side to sexy outfielder Trevor Stark.
All in all, it was a great read with some really fun sexy times and yummy pink icing!!
Caitlyn has had a crush on her brothers friend Eli for a long time, but she'd never tell anyone. She's used to being treated like the little sister or just a friend. But when Caitlyn helps Eli out unexpectedly, things take a turn in her direction, and she's left with a decision to make. Can she take this one night and live with it if it never amounts to more with Eli.
Eli has had his own feelings for Caitlyn, but held them at bay because she was his best friends little sister, the unspoken off limits girl. But Eli can't walk away from his feelings when Caitlyn gives him herself, first as a friend, a supporter, and then as a lover.
Eli's career dreams are about to come true, he's going to be playing baseball, but those dreams are also taking him away from Caitlyn and for some reason that's not sitting well with him either. Can Eli and Caitlyn find a way to make a relationship work without giving up their dreams?
Getting Wound Up is a wonderfully written small town sports romance with a little mix of friends to lovers. Both Caitlyn and Eli feel bound to be home to take care of the people they love even if it means giving up parts of their lives, their hopes or their dreams. But in true small town fashion, they both realize they don't have to give up everything an they don't have to carry all the weight on their shoulders alone. Watching these two figure out their feelings for each other and what they really mean to one another made for a few hilarious banter-full moments along with some sweet ones.
This story will suck you in and keep you reading, hoping for that HEA. The characters pull you into the story, not just the main ones, but their families and friends, it really makes you feel like you are a part of the town, a part of the group. The chemistry between Caitlyn and Eli is palpable from page one and it was easy to see that it was only a matter of time before they acted on it.
Getting Wound Up is a collaborative effort between Jennifer Bernard and Erin Nicholas.. both of whom are accomplished authors in their own right…. But together they are great. I am a HUGE baseball fan so I knew I wanted to read this book as soon as I was able to.
Eli and Caitlyn have known each other for a long time.. she is the younger sister of his best friend Bryan. She has had a crush on Eli since she was a little girl but never acted on because of his relationship with her older brother. Eli dreams of playing in baseball for a major league team but has put those dreams on hold to help out his dad after he had suffered a stroke.
Caitlyn knows how much baseball means to him and, together with his friends, concocts a plan to “kidnap” him and get him to try out for a position with the Kilby Catfish, a minor league team. The kidnapping goes as planned but what Caitlyn did not count on was a sharing a bed with Eli and possibly seeing her dreams come true. Eli and Caitlyn think they have their relationship all figured out when fate intervenes and they are forced to make some tough decisions. Can they make a long distance relationship work? Will Eli’s dream of playing in the major leagues come true? Will Caitlyn put her love for her family first or can she see what her future might hold with Eli? I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. Caitlyn and Eli belong together and how they come to grips with their feelings and with their family obligations make for a perfect ending to their story.
Jennifer and Erin's collaboration on this book was a home run in my opinion. I hope there are plans to future joint efforts!
Disclaimer: I was gifted an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Caitlyn and Eli are an absolutely adorable couple--even if it takes them ages to actually get to that point! Both have put their dreams on hold for family--Eli gave up his baseball scholarship to take over the family business after his dad had a stroke, and Cait came back home after an accident left her brother in a wheelchair. They've known each other their whole lives, pretty much, though it's taken them almost that long to figure out that they should be together.
Cait figures it out sooner, of course. Isn't that always the way? But once Eli clues in, man, is that guy all in! I loved watching them together--Eli is awesome boyfriend material, and Cait's tendency to go all out with whatever she's doing (the bouquet in the locker room for Eli's b-day--genius!) really adds to the story. It got to be a little frustrating when each of them decides (on their own, of course--neither one would have let the other do it otherwise, thank goodness) that a sacrifice is needed and each determines that he/she is the one who had to make it...but fortunately, they worked it out in the end, and yay! with such fantastic results.
This book just kept making me smile :)
I've only read one other Love Between the Bases book (Caught by You) so far and no (!) Sapphire Falls books--yet--Getting Wound Up worked just fine as a standalone and as an intro to both series, if the need be.
And my TBR pils grows again!
