What can I say... it's been a long time since I've wrote a review. Mainly bc my real life is chaotic at the moment. All 3 of my babies started school so I've been a little depressed about that lol.

Anyways what can i say about this but FUCKING phenomenal!! I love Klaus Mickleson so much!! God what a bad ass! And his brother Elijah, mhmm he can talk poetry and non sense to me all day and night! Rebekah, fierce and unstoppable! Even with a bloody stake in her heart! This was so much better than the first one. I'm not a fan at all of the character Vivianne! The witches had their moment in the beginning with those morts-vivants! Blood thirsty dead witches almost like zombies! Except they only wanted the hearts of the living. Klaus married Vivianne against my wishes! I was cussing the book! Lol! There isn't really one moment in this book that stood out above the rest! This whole damn book is glorious!! Now on the Book 3!

Not to mention am a HUGE fan of the show!

I loved reading the first book in this trilogy so naturally dedicated myself to read the rest that follows in this series and the second one was just as good as the first, if not better! It was great to read about the characters from the TV show who I have come to know through their antics in the series and reading about their past lives in these books adds an extra layer to their characters.

The histories of the main characters, Klaus, Rebekah and Elijah go so far and deep (which is to be expected for an Original vampire who has lived throughout centuries!) as well as their relationships to each other and the struggles they’ve all faced in their pasts.

In the show we’ve seen them return to New Orleans but in these books, it charts their progress in commandeering their city, establishing (and destroying) their relationships with the Witches and Werewolves as well as their run ins on love, I mean Klaus married?! Who would have thought it!

These books are great in accompaniment to the show and I can’t wait to read the third one!

At the time when I read the first book in this trilogy, I was only semi interested in Klaus, Elijah and Rebekah Mikaelson. I had heard about the television series but had not watched it. Since than I have checked this show out and absolutely love it. I was hooked from the first episode. I think that Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah all balance each other out very nicely. Even though they may be a very dysfunctional family, they truly do have each other's backs.

My favorite of the three Mikaelsons' has to be Klaus. Yes, he is the ultimate bad boy but I feel for him. I feel that he is misunderstood. Partly due to the fact that if he was to let his guard down, he would feel something and show that he might actually have a heart. Now, after reading this book I have a better understanding of just who Klaus is and why he has a wall up. If I had to compare Vivianne Lescheres to someone in the television series, I would say that she is a little bit like Camille. In the way that Camille has a little bit of a hold on Klaus. When she needs something, he does not think twice. Although, I did not only knew Vivianne for a short while, I felt the love between she and Klaus. Fans of the television series will enjoy this book.

The second book of The Originals series by Julie Plec, The Loss, starts forty years after the ending events of the first book and portrays the next stage of the battle for power between The Original vampires, witches, and werewolves.

Much was said (written) by me about the unrealistic love plotlines that constitute the main focus of the series (see my review of book one: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...). Klaus still tries to hold onto the love of his immortal life, a 19-year-old witch, sacrificing achievements in politics his siblings had gained. Elijah and Rebekah make unnatural alliances to cover Klaus's back and remain in power in New Orleans. And, as a cherry on a pie, readers get a lot of hot vampire/witch scenes.

For all the book's faults, it's worth four stars because of the epic battle at the end. With detailed precision - and savoring every ripped-out heart - Julie Plec describes what could have been the end of Mikaelsons: they were attacked by prevailing forces of witches, dead and alive. We, fans of Mikaelsons, know the family lived for another three hundred years, but seeing them weak is an enjoyable plot twist.

Books one and two are tightly intertwined together, so you'll not understand the events of book two without reading book one.

Klaus come solito distruttivo.

I actually enjoyed reading this book quite a bit. The main antagonist this time around were the witches specifically one witch named Lily and the morts-vivants which just translates to undead aka zombies. As per usual this all happens because of Klaus's dumb ass and near the end the book tries to kind of insinuate all the originals had a hand to play in this (The spell Lily used was one of Esther's which in the last book Elijah allowed a witch (I can't remember her name my bad) who is the mother to Lily to view Esther's spellbook) but like okay I guess but i would say 98% of the blame should go to Klaus. Plus if Elijah didn't let the previous witch see the spell book they wouldn't have the luxury of that nice little magical boarder that alerts them when people try to trespass so maybe let's not try and share the blame around. Anyway this whole this starts I mean cause Lily wants the witches to regain power back as it's basically being run by Elijah and vampires who took control after the events of the first book. But also like Klaus gave her everything she needed so her plans could actually come to fruition he gave her Esther's opal and his blood in exchange for Lily to bring back Viv. I didn't really care for the romance in the last book and for the first half I also didn't care and was always the least excited when it got to Klaus chapters but after Rebekah and Klaus had their fight on the beach and she told him something wasn't right with Viv the chapters were much more exciting because you're just waiting for when Klaus can no longer keep deluding himself and pretending everything is okay with Viv. And I think the reveal was pretty good honestly just the imagery of Klaus sat helplessly with his back to the door while he hears Viv try over and over to break it down and listening to her screams that don't even sound like her. Oh and the mention of her stopping the screaming only to attempt to seduce him and when that doesn't work go back to screaming wildly and thrashing the area and all Klaus can do is keep her down there like muah chef's kiss that sounds like an absolute nightmare and I love it. And this time around I was actually a little sad when she died the second time. Okay so onto Rebekah, at first I wasn't really sure where he story was gonna go and was worried they'd try and give her another love interest which to my surprise they didn't. She actually even mentions her previous lover from the last book (I forgot his name) a couple of times. I do think it takes a couple of chapters for her to hit her stride but it wasn't too long where I felt like she was just meandering. I really enjoyed her planning for the prank and the prank actually being successful and then just the worst thing that can happen happens, which is all the vampires who just drank a bunch of werewolf venom and are being healed by Klaus now have to go into battle against zombies which at this point they had no idea how to kill and had only been spotted by Elijah. Also Rebekah is probably the first to notice Viv is acting weird though I guess she really was the only choice bc Klaus is in his delusional era and Elijah is out there trying to save New Orleans from a zombie invasion but still even despite that stuff I feel like it's really makes sense for her to be the first to notice something being off and being the messenger of that news to Klaus (who doesn't take that very well.) I also really off the bat liked her and Lisette's quick friendship and was really excited to read more of that but that kinda didn't happened,,,She did also build a bond with another character named Marguerite though that one is more of a protector role in Rebekah's case and it's more towards the end of the book but I'm hopeful that that both relationship will be explored more in the next book. And Elijah okay he encountered the mont-vivants first so I was instantly sucked into his chapters as he tries to figure out what they are and how they came to be. It's just fun to read especially cause Elijah knows it's got something to do with Klaus and Viv though Klaus is the most unhelpful person in the world. Also I just really enjoy seeing Elijah in a diplomatic role and we had to scenes really with him going to the witches to ask them about the undead and learn more about the deal Klaus made and then later in the book with the werewolves as he tries to get them to join his side. I just think that's where his character really thrives. I will say I did find the romance with Lisette to be kinda ehh for me and maybe a little of it (or a lot) has to do with me being annoyed that they only introduce Lisette to be a love interest for Elijah and not a friend to Rebekah. I just get weary whenever characters get paired off is all I'm saying okay cause I think there's some interesting things about Lisette, specifically her knack for being vampire and I just worry she won't be further develop if they put her in the role of love interest. Also speaking of love interest, Viv I'm honestly so conflicted on her character like I wanna like her but I feel like we never get to know about Viv without Klaus being right fucking there. I just was really interested to know more about her feeling on coming back from the dead especially after 40 years like she mentions her old life maybe like 2 times. I feel like I'm leaving out a lot more of things I wanted to say but this thing is probably really long so tldr would probably be most interesting point of view this time around goes Elijah, Rebekah, and Klaus is last again but it wasn't as bad as the last time. Zombies are cool and I'm always gonna be tuned in when zombies are around. Last but not least I'm on my hands and knees please for the love of god give me more female friendships in these books. I need them I need them so bad. Deep down I know I'm setting myself up for disappointment. Anyway plot pretty good. Good book.

Rant:
At first, I was going to give it four stars. Now it is simply two stars. Don't get me wrong, I was glad to be back in the presence of the most elite siblings/trio that is known to mankind, but I honestly don't know what I just read.

The plot: it was both slow and fast. I didn't care too much about the Mortis.... Vampires. At some point, it got too extreme for me. I scanned the pages because it was a struggle for me. The writing is good. I also didn't like Klaus in this book. He was better in this book. Klaus is unrecognizable to me.

And also, why the hell is Rebekah pulling a prank at Klaus's wedding???? That's not something she would do. She has Klaus’s temper, but she could never stoop to his level. She was actually sick of his BS in the show. Why is even getting married in the first place????????

Vivianne: in all honestly, I felt as though she was just there to be there. Klaus only falls in love with her because she is supposed to be “untouchable”. Meaning, he did it because it was wrong (usual Klaus). I didn't like it because there was no built-up tension to me. Klaus has more chemistry with Cami and Caroline from the show than with Viv in the books. I don't know, maybe it is just me. While we are given another layer of Klaus in this book( love and marriage, because he is a complex character), I also didn't like him being madly in love with someone he had just met. Which doesn't make any sense to me because Klaus, according to the flashbacks in the show, was ruthless back in the day, and he damn sure wasn't trynna fall in love.

I am confused. It is supposed to be a “prequel” to the show, but it reads more like a “happily ever after” to me that comes after the show.

This is a continuation of the previous book taking place about 40 years later. Old grudges surface and this becomes the crux of their problems... along with Klaus, of course. In the last book I thought that Klaus was a bit too optimistic for his character. However, in this book, the optimism has turned into something more selfish and narcissistic. Yep, the Klaus we know is in full form.

My only complaint is slight. This time it feels as if Elijah is more like Klaus in this book. He has always been the one to be able to think of others even if his blinders are huge for the family. He seemed a bit more self centered in this one. Not too badly but just not his sweet vampire self who can rip out your throat for looking at his family wrong. Okay, bad example, but fans of the show may know what I'm talking about. It was a minor thing however.

I give this book 3 1/2 stars. I enjoyed myself a bit more with this book and found myself easily seeing this as a flashback episode of the Originals. I recommend it to those who are fans of the show.

😇✌ #alwaysandforever

Still not quite what I want it to be...Elijah and Rebekah are getting closer...but Klaus, no so much! And the story...it disagreed with just about everything in the TV show...super odd, considering they were written by the same person.

This is a good tv show spin off read. If you like the show then read this series.
This book takes place 40 years after book one. Klaus is still mouring Vivienne and searching for a way to bring her back. A bad deal with a witch gives him what he wants, but at what cost? The living dead start terrorizing the vampires of New Orleans, and the witches are ready to fight for control of the city.Who will be victorious and who will pay the ultimate price?
Klaus can be obsessed with Vivienne all he wants, but we all know Klaroline is finally happening this season on the show! ❤️

Final thoughts: this book is so not canon compliant that it isn't even funny. Julie obviously loves writing fanfiction; it's a wild ride. Also, Julie needs to just stop writing sex scenes. They're not ever very good. But I'm still hooked so here I go ready for book three!

MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILER !!!!!!!

I don't remember the last time reading a book with so much violence and heartbreaking moments like this one...

Once again, Julie Plec's viciousness continues to amaze. She definitely has a talent for some chaotic mayhem.

Here we could see how dangerous Klaus Mikaelson could be, If not so obnoxious for his siblings. But what keeps me hooked is the fact he always come back to his family, yes in a good way. Just like Rebekah, who always returns no matter how devastated she could be with Klaus being ... Klaus. And Elijah, of course always the ever good brother who needs to keep his deranged family in tact, every time.

But then, here comes the part when Klaus still found it so hard to move on from Vivianne and made it a mission to resurrect her from the dead. And Klaus always got what he wanted. But of course, there was a catch, as always.

Oh and the catch involved some flesh - ripping honeymoon and wars with zombie - like witches who ate heart. Oh and the werewolves were back and didn't want to be left out for the fun.

FOUR SUPERNATURAL WARS, PEOPLE !!! I don't remember being this tired just by reading book, AND THAT'S HOW you wrote an adult supernatural novel.

Damn the final one is still out of my reach -_-

The Loss has a good plot. It really portrays emotions and thoughts really well. It's realistic in that sense. It doesn't have the "classic character" moral or traits and that's what I like about The Originals. The characters weren't selfless (mostly?), they weren't all saints and angels, "gotta do the right thing" type. This book shows more of their bond of the Mikaelson family which is great. However, Klaus was really out of character. Like the last book, he is still a lovesick fool. His intelligence wasn't portrayed well in these two books. The books didn't play up to his master-scheming mind. It could just because he's changed over a thousand years though and he turned from a lovesick individual to a more developed wise (?) character. Also, this book also mentioned Kol and Finn only once. Once. That is what irritated me the most. Kol and Finn are such underrated characters! Going into a bit of a rant here too, Vivianne is such an annoying character. Her character in this book turned into such a damsel in distress. Alot of details were also ignored in this book. Like oh I don't know, daggering Rebekah? Vivanne basically manipulating Klaus to turn on his own sister? That whole facing those sibling issues seems to be brushed away in the book and confined to only a conversation in battle: "hey sister, sorry for daggering you and punching you because I thought you were harming my wife and not trusting your reasonable judgement even though you are my sister for 1000 years" "It's okay Klaus, I forgive you even though you were about to let my body float into the ocean where magic can't track." . It was also through Elijah's perspective. The book still doesn't emphasize how the Mikaelsons are basically freaking legends. The book does include a lot more background information though. It has more cliffhangers which makes the book more fun to read. The language used in this book was much better than the last. I feel like they can capture the way the characters talk better though and the darkness you feel when watching the Originals weren't really captured as well in the book. I think in general the plot was great though otherwise. Oh I also wouldn't suggest this book is you don't like gory, horrour and bloody, twisted gruesome books.

I had fun reading this book, but... it's far from perfect. The beginning was super annoying – the characters behaved completely not like themselves, especially Klaus. He was so different from Klaus we know from tv shows, he was like... a not very funny caricature.
After about a third of the book, we finally started getting some action which helped. The best were the last 100 pages – a lot happened and it was quite interesting. The decisions the Originals had to make, the things they had to do... I have to admit, that was done really well.
Even though I consider "The Loss" to be weaker than "The Rise", I still had a lot of fun reading it. I just don't consider it to be canon – the characters were waaay too different from those we met in tv shows and I just can't skip over this. For me, this book is... a pleasant non-canonical fanfiction.

Honestly I wasn’t feeling this book at all. The characters just weren’t themselves.
The Original siblings made a pact “remain together always and forever” is the famous saying. After a hurricane destroys the Mikaelson’s city, they have to rebuild New Orleans and it’s glory. One thing is for sure Klaus Mikaelson wants more power, a witch casts a spell and a bloodbath begins.

Rebekah actually shows maturity which being the youngest of the two she was never one to be mature. Elijah was always the one to take care of his crazy siblings, but yet it’s Rebekah.

Elijah gets development, but honestly not that much. Although Klaus lost his love interest Elijah gains one which is surprising because Elijah usually has to look out for his brother.

Klaus is in mourning, but his character has completely changed. He’s this lovable asshole who you hate because he’s egotistical and evil, yet he is less broody.

To sum this book up it’s literally countless bloodbaths. I wish I was joking, but the amount of times someone fought and died in this book was over the top. I get the Mikaelson’s kill, but you don’t need basically half of the book to just be death, death, death. We would actually like to see some sibling bonding like they did in the show.

Okuyun. Klaus için. Valla, okuyun.

Spoilers, y'all!

What in the world was this book? Klaus, married? Rebekah plays a prank at the wedding? That makes zero sense, what is she, seven? Zombie things eating hearts, everywhere?

What a hot mess. And Klaus will never be able to love that way again? How stupid to put that in the book, knowing about Camille and Caroline? I can't, y'all.

Klaus was so rash in this, and once again gave no thought to what might happen if he didn't get what he wanted. Lily was a total bitch and Klaus was also completely self-obsessed, he wasn't worried that Vivianne might be killing people, only that she might not love him anymore 🙄 Like, seriously?!
