Rated 3 stars. Kobo+ Novella. Contemporary Romance Series Challenge 2025. Tropes: Military, Love at First Sight, Erotica, Family/Friends. MC's h. Olivia Cava, 20+, owner of Cava Java, subletting a house owned by M.K. Waters from Becca Moore a customer at her cafe shop. Her parents, her brother and sister in law all live in Swanboro, NC too. Her five year plan is to open 3 coffee shops, 2 in neighboring communities, New Bern and Willington. Her dad was a marine as well as her two brothers, Mike and Brad. H. Major Kyle Waters, US Marine, trained for Special Forces, owned a home in Swansboro, NC, on leave for a month, has a brother Tim in Augusta Georgia, a stockbroker also married. His parents died in a car accident several years ago. Comment: Kyle and Olivia met at her coffee shop as customer and entrepeneur/ server. Kyle was dating Becca Moore who also was his roomate. When Kyle was away he came home one day and caught Becca with another military man in bed. He kicked her out and they ended the relationship. While this was upsetting he secretly had been watching Olivia from afar and using his vivid imagination about what it would be like having sex with her. He dreamt of her everynight onboard the ship in the Mediterranean and when he came home on leave, he slipped into his house in the middle of the night stripping down and climbing into bed, again dreaming of sleeping with Olivia. Until it wasn't a dream it was real, he was touching her privates and she was wet. Suddenly his thumb was shoved back and he heard a woman scream and thrash against him kicking and scratching. He held her arms restraining her until they both calmed down. Afterwards he apologized and told her he was having a wet dream and slept on the couch. He offered her to keep renting and be his roomate. He fixed up the spare bedroom for her. The was chemistry between them as she too admired him from afar at the cafe Cava Java. He kissed her and she lit up inside and melted into him. He had wanted to feel her lips and her body next to him for months. The spark lit, and they leaped into bed to put out the firing inferno raging inside each of their bodies. The sex in the story is hot. hot. hot. X-rated. They have a little falling out when, her brother came home unexpectedly for a visit on leave from the Marines. Kyle was waiting for Olivia outside the shop but hiding behind some bushes and saw her kiss Brad on the lips and tell him how much she missed him. They left together. Kyle being the jealous type, assumed the worst and kicked her out, telling her, he had another girlfriend (total lie). Her brothers and Maggie her best friend and sister inlaw came to move her stuff out. She stayed with Maggie & Mike in their spare bedroom. When Kyle realized the other man was her brother he felt like such a heal. He vowed to suck up and convince her to forgive him and ask her to marry him. She did and five years later, they have a son and baby on the way. She still has her cafe shop and a second one run by her sister in law in New Bern. This was a short and sexy romance. I gave it 3 stars.

Right off bat I’m going to say that Major Kyle Waters can wake me up like he did Olivia Cava any damn time! Holy hell of a hot scene!! Marie Harte is at it again bringing her readers one fantastic story. Honestly, I loved the first chapter in this book as two people who know of each other but don’t really know one another discover that reality is way better than fantasy which was pretty damn awesome for both of them. Sexy, amusing, and complicated are just a few words that describe what happens between Kyle and Olivia as their relationship blossoms. I enjoyed this book so much; the attraction between the characters was intense, the fact that his job would affect her plans made the plot interesting, and the intimate scenes were so steamy. I do love a dirty talker and this author is quite the master at writing dirty talking heroes and when the heroine gets into the act it makes it even better. This is a novella, so it moves at a quick pace however I felt the character development was good and the plot in depth enough that I didn’t feel like I missed anything. It was easy to feel the intense attraction between these two and see as it changed into something more. A Major Attraction is another satisfying book from author Marie Harte and I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series.
Kyle and Olivia. This one's pretty short, but satisfying. Kyle has been overseas for the better part of the last year. During that time, for some weird reason, his ex girlfriend (whose a b*tch), illegally sublet his house to a woman he had the hots for since before he broke up with his ex (for good reason). See how this doesn't make sense? It's like the ex was doing him a favour. Weird. But it leads to a really fun sexy surprise reunion between Olivia and Kyle (smirk). As for OW drama Because it's a short read, it doesn't take long for Kyle an Olivia to grow close, but Kyle is a bit mistrustful since the way his ex treated him and jumps to erroneous conclusions, using horribly mean words. But some lovely grovelling leads to a sweet HEA. Yum!
This guy was supposed to be a romantic lead?! Such an asshole! Like thinking about the heroine that she's not the best he ever had (good for you buddy) or that even though she's curvy she has a flat stomach (good for her, I guess?) And then how he threw her out with that explanation and for a reason what he thought he saw?
Do we really need to read about an asshole I can meet on a street every day and not bother to read a book?
I don't think so.
I was considering DNF'ing a novella. It's that bad.
Nice little novella with a good bit of steamy sex. The guy was pretty dreamy until he suddenly wasn't... I mean, really wasn't. He should have had like 5 more pages of grovelling after that mess.
Kyle and Olivia start their relationship off with a set up by a disgruntled ex girlfriend of Kyles. These two get close and intimate but when Olivia is just about to tell Kyle she loves him, Kyle sees something and jumps to conclusions without asking for facts. Kyle then really acts so nasty, it is just so hurtful. I really do wish Olivia at least let her brothers beat on him a bit first before she forgives him with just one apology. Major grovelling should have occurred. Also reread in the box set. The books are in incorrect order so read book two first, about Mike and Maria. Inter-related siblings and friends find their HEA’s when they are either not really looking, or don’t think they will be accepted by the ones their hearts are set on. A lighthearted fun read with idiot alpha males making a mess of things with the women they don’t realise they love, until it is possibly too late. The women of course forgive their grave emotional hurt after one measly apology. Have owned these for ages and read them a few times. My previous reviews are missing. March 2021 Still an entertaining read with likeable characters.
It was a good book but I didn't like Olivia very much. One of the things that I just couldn't get past was she and her brother kissing in the book, I don't carr of this less than a second, that's just gross, if I were Kyle knowing it was her brother would make me leave so fast. I just wasn't feeling these characters
As I sit and try to contemplate this story I’m torn in two directions, one direction has me enjoying the story and the skill in which it was written and the other side is confused by some of the decisions that our hero Kyle, in particular, makes in this book. He is a true series of contradictions. Charming, polite and one heck of a perfect man and then there is the jealous side that seems more in keeping with a teenage girl/guy and their first love. His reaction to an event 2/3rds of the way through this book left me perplexed and this has lead to this wandering introduction to this review.
Our heroine is a strong modern woman with a career she is passionate about and a drive to bigger and better things in her life but has focused on achieving her business goals before she gets involved with a true relationship. I applaud her sense of purpose and commitment to this goal in her life and her determination to make her life as she wants it. However as soon as she is given a brief opportunity to hook up with Kyle she does? Again I’m confused. The fact that Kyle has been away for the military for close to a year and he shows up and the first thing they do is get into bed together? I just don’t get it.
This seems to be the over-arching theme for this book which is acting impulsively. And I appreciate that but I need a motivation or something more than “I’ve been dreaming about you” to justify their actions. Especially when in the first chapter, Kyle and Olivia have a make out session in Kyle’s bed before they both realize that they aren’t dreaming. I don’t know about you but there is no way I would have been able to stay in that house if this had happened to me. I would have packed up my gear and been out of there. The only thing left would have been the wind as I blew out of that house.
But what you really want to know is what these two characters are like when they do get together. Kyle and Olivia are wonderful together when they get it right. The covert glances, the blushes and the lingering looks are enough to make even her best friend grin from ear to ear. This is in fact where this book shines the brightest. Their chemistry is off-the-charts and requires a cool glass of wine to calm the steam that these two give off.
This is the first full length novel by Marie Harte that I have read. I’ve read her novella that can be found in Ever After and really enjoyed it. Which makes me wonder if this style of writing is the problem. The novella is set in the paranormal world and Ms. Harte makes great use of this world for her characters and their story. I look forward to reading the other books in this series and see if this was just a one off stumble.
Final thoughts I think we have a good plan in place for this series and I hope that the builder will be able to build it into the architectural wonder it was meant to be. If you haven’t had the opportunity to read any of Ms. Harte’s work then pick this one up but don’t be surprised if you are perplexed when it comes to our characters motivations and actions but happy as a clam when Kyle and Olivia steam up the sheets.
Fated Desire Publishing provided me with a copy of A Major Attraction but nothing else was exchanged for my honest review.
***Received from Fated Desires Publishing for an honest review*** (This is a short story/novella. This review is not based on story length but story content as length has very little to do with how much I enjoy a book.)
Well, this certainly wasn’t what I was expecting, lol. Despite reading the blurb, this little story caught me by surprise with its characters and plot.
I kept thinking, “Kyle and Olivia, sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G” before they even got together! The attraction they felt for one another just popped off the pages. And they way Ms. Harte introduced them to the reader? Um, wow!
The move from acquaintances to lovers happened fast, a move that might not sit well with some readers. It didn’t for me to be honest. Despite the “ships passing in the night” feel of their relationship, I was disappointed that Kyle and Olivia took that huge a jump so quickly.
Until that scene where they talked about themselves, a belated getting to know each other conversation that made accepting their relationship a little easier. Their talk gave me much needed insight into who they were.
With their relationship going so well, I wondered when it would hit that roadblock. Ms. Harte didn’t disappoint there. The uncertainty, jealousy, and betrayal Kyle felt just radiated from my screen, and showed how badly his ex-girlfriend hurt him. Does it excuse the way he lashed out at Olivia? Hell no! But it does make his groveling that much sweeter to read about.
This is a quick, delicious read about two people who know of each other but not about each other; who are deeply in lust with each other but not love, at first; whose hang ups seem too big to get over but really aren’t. For such a short story, you sure packed one hell of a wallop with it, Ms. Harte!
(Reviewer’s Note: This book contains strong language, graphic sex, and anal sex. Please take this into consideration before purchasing this book.)
A Major Attraction is book one in the Good to Go series by Marie Harte. A very sexy romance between a career driven woman and a career Marine finding a perfect compromise between the two. This is a hot one it’s heavy on the sex but it balances perfectly. A Major Attraction is a wonderful contemporary romance.
U.S. Marine Major Kyle Waters has just returned home after six months and is ready for some much deserved R&R. When he gets home and in bed he starts to dream about the girl he hasn’t been able to stop thinking about for the last year, Olivia Cava. The dream soon becomes reality when he realizes she is in his bed and he really is fondling her. After a short freak out Olivia, owner of Cava Java, explains she sublet from Kyle’s ex-girlfriend never piecing together that Rebecca’s boyfriend and landlord were the same person. Feeling bad Olivia offers to move out, but seeing the opportunity to get to know Olivia better, offers her to finish off her lease in the second bedroom.
The roommates quickly become more with a highly sexual relationship and a comfortable routine. Kyle knows their is more between them then just roommates with benefits but knows if he pushes her to far he will mess up his chances. Olivia knows what she wants and a career Marine isn’t one of them. Growing up a military brat and seeing her mother go through all that she did she has vowed to put work first and even came up with a five year plan before letting herself settle down. But her quickly progressing relationship with Kyle threatens to derail her five year plan.
Kyle’s fear of repeating mistakes almost ruins their happy little life when he sees Olivia with another man. He jumps the gun and makes an ass of himself, and can only hope Olivia forgives him. This was a great quick read, very steamy and drool worthy. Kudos to Marie Harte.
The story starts with Major Kyle Waters coming home after being gone for 8 months on board ship on a tour of the Mediterranean. It's the middle of the night, he is tired and just ready for bed. When he stumbles into his bed in the dark, he doesn't see the woman sleeping on the other side.
Olivia Cava is gently awoken to the rumble of a sound, but it's dark and not time for her to get up yet. So she snuggles back in to the warm embrace of her fantasy man. As his hands move over her and his kisses along her neck make her feel good, she realizes that its not a fantasy, but a real life man. Olivia starts using the self-defense moves her brothers taught her, causing Kyle to wake with a jolt of pain, ready to fight.
Once in the light, they recognize each other. She is the owner of his favorite coffee shop, and he is the guy that she has been secretly drooling over. As it turns out, Kyle's ex-girlfriend sublet out his house to Olivia while he was gone, never telling her who the landlord actually was. Kyle makes the suggestion for Olivia to stay on, he will clean out the spare room and they can share the house until her lease is up. As the two get to know one another the heat between them becomes combustible.
This was was a hot, steamy read; smexy from the beginning to the end. Though it seemed like Insta-Love, it really wasn't. The two of them had been eyeing each other for months before his tour sent him away. And there is nothing like a bit of sleepy groping to really get to know someone in a hurry, *snicker*. Both Kyle and Olivia had issues to overcome and I liked that though Kyle had a massive Asshat moment, when he figured it out, there was a beautiful apology scene. I would read the next 2 books in the series and gave this one 4 stars.
This was a very good start to this series if I have ever read one. What starts out as a set up US Marine Major Kyle (oh what a mouth full for a mouth watering character) by his ex-girlfriend turns out to actually be something that turns out for his benefit and that of Olivia's who when played actually gets to play. I do like reading novels that feature service men especially when they turn out to be as yummy as this one that you want to eat him right up. It also helped matters that he had a fixation for months for her too. In this novel this fixation will be fix right into to a relationship to both of their liking that spirals forward for the both of them. They decide to be roommates until the end of her lease. His room one night her room next night you get the picture. The heat that transpires between these two cold thaw out your meat you plan to cook for dinner if need be. Of course she does have a plan for her life before he waltzed in but move over plans you read how re planning should be in the future if she wants to stay with him and see where this could go. Good flow of story that you move right along with these two in this relationship as it grows and builds. His being a marine has a draw back for her and his past will interfere with them also. Can not have a plain ole happy after without drama or it would be a dull read indeed which this was certainly not. His screw up will show her what a heart of a man who is a Marine is really made of which will be totally top notch. Nice touch with what the epilogue contains it wrapped this novel up with a bow. Of course I will also take any other ones she might have waiting in the wings too in a bow delivered to my doorstep if possible. Received a arc for a honest review.
The first novella in the Good to Go series is a wonderful quick romantic read. Growing up as the daughter of a career military man, Olivia vowed to never to get involved with a Marine. Home for some well deserved rest, Kyle, finds the woman he’s been fantasizing about for months in his bed. Can the two find a way to work around their life’s goals or will Kyle’s past or Olivia’s five year plan get in the way?
This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers entertained with sweet romance, drama and red hot passion. The author describes the scenes and the compelling characters with well written details that inspire vivid images that the reader can easily picture. The drama ups the tension level and draws the reader deeper into the story.
The attraction between Olivia and Kyle burns up the pages and frequent sex scenes including some anal sex scorch the reader with fiery intensity. A relationship however needs more that sex to make it work, so the two has to decide just what is important to them. The author brought tears to my eyes at one point during this short story and I really things worked out a little too easily, but I enjoyed this romantic tale and the happily ever after glimpse of the future made up for the tears.
Satisfying quick read. Kyle has a crush on the local cafe owner and dreams about her while he is away. When he returns he is surprised to find she is living in his house. Olivia believes she has taken over the sub-lease of Kyle's ex-girlfriend (although she is unaware at the time that her landlord & Becca's ex are one and the same). Olivia has also been dreaming of the handsome marine that used to come into her coffee shop every morning. Within a short time their crush on each other has blossomed to love. Just as they are ready to say those meaningful three little words to one another, Kyle observes something that has him putting two and two together and coming up with six! In a move to protect his injured ego, he pushes Olivia away in as hurtful away possible. When his mistake is realised he grovels and begs her to for give him. The main characters are very like-able and the secondary characters are caring and interesting. The sex scenes are hot and reasonably plentiful. I would happily recommend this story.
Where do I start,..let me say I give this 4.9 stars--
This story is about two people who found their way back to each other --story begins when Kyle is back home from active duty. He is coming into his home, getting into bed and encounters his heroine, Olivia. She was duped into renting Kyle's house by Kyle's EX Girlfriend......
And the action starts from there.......This is a story about two people who are looking for their happiness- looking for their mister/miss right and looking to find where they truly belong. It is a engaging story, with great secondary characters whom I hope to see more of in future books.
This story is fast paced, full of action, full of angst at times but in the end there is a HEA. I highly recommend this story if you are looking for a great new book or new series to start. Ms. Harte has a terrific new series on her hands.
I love everything I’ve read of Marie Harte’s to date and have developed a fondness for Military men too!!
First, I need to say this book is explosively HOT!!! The sex is plentiful, and be warned, it’s enough to melt your eReader!
The characters were likable, with endearing qualities and some real life issues too. Olivia has a 5-year plan and Kyle just returned from 8 months active duty, has skeletons he would rather bury than allow to continually haunt him.
While the chemistry between these two was combustible; fueled by their secret attraction to each other for over a year, I did have an issue with how Olivia handled one particular interaction between herself and Kyle.
I don’t write spoilers, so I won’t go into detail, but I feel the author could have made Kyle work harder for Olivia’s forgiveness.
Overall, a good quick story and I will read the next instalment.
I love a good military romance. Marie Harte gives us a sexy sweet story of a Marine Major and a former Marine brat now business woman who has a plan and it doesn’t include falling in love with a Marine and following him all over creation. Plans make the gods giggle and love will find a way. Complimentary copy provided by author/publisher for an honest review.
Brief but nice. Slightly nicer than book 2, I liked the characters and their flaws better in this story. I still think they should have been longer, it would at least make the romance more believable but for a quick sweet read, these books are fine. Don't expect more would be my suggestion.
OMG This book is hot. Kyle sexy hot Marine Major. His body was made for hot nights. Olivia is a really woman with curves. Olivia and Kyle get hooked up thanks to his ex Rebecca. Rebecca does a number on Kyle's ego. That is the problem for Olivia and Kyle. I can't wait for the next book.
