Sometimes it feels like project management goes against creativity. This exercise we call a 'project', where a group of people attempt to coalesce in the pursuit of creating something bigger than themselves, is fraught with personality and cultural imbalance, often riddled with assumptions and repetitious in its short comings.

The Conscious Project Leader is the refreshing change of approach that project management has been dying for for a long time (and literally 'dying' is the right word here, just read the stats in this book).

With the rules of work changing thanks in no small part to millennials taking up more and more of the majority of the workforce, this is a must read for project leaders to stay relevant and effective.

Entertaining and easy / fun to listen to. Without being too detailed in approach, the author does a great job of outlining guidelines to help you think through project management. Also, read by the author (audiobook) which I always consider to be a big plus.

Fantasic read. Really recommend this to any manager, leader or prospective leader. Colin uses a simple process to identify techniques to help me to become the leader I wish to be. I couldn't put the book down and his suggestions for wider reading and research have helped shape my ambition.

On top of everything else this book is a enjoyable read with the author giving us many fascinating anecdotes (many of the funny) about his experiences which help us to follow his guidance and wish to accomplish similar results ourselves.

These techniques I hope, will be easy to apply or at least, as successful.

I look forward to the next one!

This is a must read for anyone who works in the project space! There's so many great hints and tips and other great books/videos recommended if you wish to extend your learning further.

I also like the humor that Colin's added, my favorite lines had to be at the start of the 'Bouncebackability' - when Colin mentions a memory of being a kid in England playing football in the freezing cold winter "worst of all was when the ball hit you full on the thigh as it would sting like only a leather ball on cold flesh could". This happened to me so many times too! :-)

Mindfulness, courage, personality and fun. Words you don't usually come across in a book about best practice project management.
Well, they are in abundance here - and there's a lot more where that came from. With chapters such as 'How to run meetings that don't suck', Colin's sense of humour as well as his obvious wealth of experience in project management makes for an entertaining and informative read.
It gives me hope for the future of Project Management.

When I think of project management I think of spreadsheets and Gantt charts and rulers and calculators. In other words, the non-human elements of project management. Collin Ellis’s approach is from the non-traditional angle: it’s human orientated. Collin’s book is simple and easy to read and is a breath of fresh air!

This book really highlights few aspects of project delivery that are not (usually) measured in metrics, however very instrumental in achieving successful outcomes. Apart from the normal time, cost and quality metrics, delivering successful projects also depends on a good balance of leadership, culture and methods, and this book will help you understand how to achieve that.
