Danielle and Michael met and fell in love as teenagers in the idyllic town of Jeffreys Bay, but due to circumstances they were separated for 10 years. When they meet again in France they are both in relationships with other people. Will Danielle's career as a heart surgeon in Cape Town and Michael's career as an artist in Avignon seperate them? Is love enough to overcome all the obstacles or are they destined to be apart?
A beautifully written love story of young love and all the challenges of life happening. Separation, miscommunication, distance, time and careers keeping them apart.
They find their way back to each other, because love is the greatest gift they found in each other.
It was a beautiful love story, and I'm not a love story person at all.Well, maybe once in a while, especially like this one.Teenage love.It never really last, not the kind you read about in fairy tales.Summer time beach fling with a little older boy.Fades into later year, said boy goes away to the Army, writes a few letters and then nothing. Broken hearted and confused, she doesn't know what to do .Appearing out of the blue,he returns and claims her first kiss..Years pass, life goes on.She has moved on,become what she wanted to always be.Sitting in a cozy café,a stranger walks up and speaks to her.Could it be? It is..If you listen to country music, you can guess the rest. They realize the love they always have had for one another. Through the years and growing up,and stubbornness and eventually tragedy.True love will prevail.. Now,to why I didn't give it four stars. It started out as a very nicely written story. Then about towards the middle, when they got back together, the wording got edgy. Some books the f word belongs in,when describing the sex scenes. This wasn't that book, with the exception of the club scene. That was a hot scene.I am old just one person though. All in all this was a good book. The last few chapters, were magnificent.
What an amazing story of love that conquered against all odds! It is so well-written, you get drawn into the characters' lives immediately, and it has you rooting for that pure deep all-consuming love that Danielle and Michael feel for each other, urging them on to get together. I love a strong woman as a main character who does not stand back for a strong sexy successful man, and here you have sparks flying all the time. The story never looses its appeal, you stay intrigued from the first page to the end. When you reach the last page, you actually have an acute feeling of loss, as you do not want to let them go, with the main characters endearing themselves to you throughout. I also enjoyed the little monologue start to each part of the book, it builds suspense and have you turn the page with a feeling of dread, as you again do not know how it will pan out. Hope to see more books by J. Theron soon!!
This book is a romance set first in South Africa (Jeffrey's Bay), then to Avignon in France, and back to Cape Town. The romance, seen from Danielle's point of view, is of the on-again/off-again type, with some of the triggers perhaps a little thin or overly impulsive, as well as a rather concentrated part in the middle on sexual adventures. It is very difficult to go further into the plot without spoiling. Some of the reasons for breakups seem fairly ordinary and impulsive, and perhaps out of character and somewhat artificially constructed, but towards the end there is something I never saw coming, so that is a good point for the author. I am also an author, and in reading this sort of book I had hoped to get some insight as to why women sometimes behave the way they do, and unfortunately I gained nothing. Situations happen, but apart from the triggers, there was little further. The writing is clear, and given that the author is apparently an Afrikaans speaker, it is really well done.
“Running to stand still” is a romantic novel set in South Africa, written by the medical doctor Junet Theron. The main characters are Danielle and Michael and the story is about their young love. The book is divided into four parts. Danielle is a teenager and she hides her feelings for Michael. It seems all perfect until Michael has to leave at the end of the summer (he must go off to the army) and he asks her to watch out for his brother Thomas, younger than him...hence the beginning of a love triangle. Michael was too young (he was nineteen years old) to realise that he was walking away from the only person he would ever love. This story was very well written and detailed, the author does a great job at setting the scene and building the characters and I really think that Junet Theron is a very talented writer! The story is realistic and fascinating. I really enjoyed this book, it is an excellent read for anyone who is a true lover of romance. A romantic story worth to read!
Running to Stand Still by J. Theron is a romance novel featuring her medical knowledge. Danielle falls in love as a teenager, before she is even allowed to date. She hides her feelings for Michael, unsure if he feels the same way for her. He must go off to the army, but asks her to watch out for his younger brother, hence the beginning of a love triangle. Danielle decides ten years later to contact Michael one last time before she marries. Maybe she knows in her heart she doesn’t love Jonathon as much as she loves Michael. This book will definitely have you on your toes, cheering for love to conquer misunderstandings, jealousy, and pride. Finding love for them wasn’t easy, and keeping it was even harder. My favorite part was Michael’s insight to Adele’s malicious behavior. He saw that she was sincerely hurt by someone else and she mistreated others to cover up her pain.
This is a love story set in South Africa. The author, J. Theron, is a doctor and she has brought her experience in the medical field to this love story. The heroine, Danielle, is studying hard to achieve her dream of becoming a heart surgeon. This dream comes between Danielle and the love of her life, Michael. It is a story of young love and the trials and tribulations that attend the meeting of one’s soul mate early on in life – before one is equipped to deal with such an intense relationship. One thing that I didn’t much like was the intrusive authorial voice which portends doom in advance and, to me, spoilt my enjoyment of the plot as it unfolded.
