It was supposed to be simple. Four members from the Western States planned to sneak into the Eastern States to free four condemned Others. But when they arrived at the experimental labs where the Others were being held, it was under attack from Rebel forces.
Griff Hughes had one job...
He had to find Shar, a wounded hawk shifter. But in the ensuing chaos, he became a captive instead of a rescuer. Three days later he awakens in his own cage, alone. But during the nights, he’s not alone. An alluring redhead with a siren’s call visits his dreams, and his resistance is breaking down.
Shar McIntire is just trying to survive.
After three years in captivity, Shar has one goal...keep her and her sister alive. To do so means cooperating with the evil doctors who want her to seduce and manipulate Griff. She likes and is drawn to the man with the strange chocolate wings, but she can’t let that attraction distract her. Her sister’s fate is in her hands.
In the last eighteen years, life hasn’t been easy for anyone.
The WS and the ES have been separate entities, but once the Veil was crossed, things began to evolve. It’s a new world, but that doesn’t mean it's going to get any easier anytime soon.
As an avid reader her entire life, Christi Snow always dreamed of writing books that brought to others the kind of joy she felt when she read. But...she never did anything about it besides jot down a few ideas and sparse scenes.
When her husband retired from the Air Force, Christi decided it was time to chase her dream and she started writing. She hasn’t stopped since. With twenty-two published books in various romance genres, she’s found her passion. Now she spends her days with her laptop writing about sexy, alpha heroes and the loves of their lives.
Writing, Christi has fulfilled her dream... filling the world with more romance and suspense.
Her tagline is... Passion and adventure on the road to Happily Ever After. She loves this adventure and has truly found her tribe!

I really need to thank author Christi Snow for providing a glossary of terms used in this series. Since Allied in Flight picks up exactly where the first book ended it came in very handy as a refresher of what everything is. No need for the author to bore the reader rehashing the world building that already happened in the first book. Read the glossary, BOOM! All caught up and ready to go.
I have a confession to make. When we first met Griff in the first book, I didn’t like him. Even when he kind of redeemed him by changing his attitude I still was very Meh! about him. Then I found out he was to be the leading male character in the Allied in Flight… Really?! I wasn’t thrilled to say the least but I was committed to reading the series so I forged ahead. I’m here to say I was completely wrong about him. His gruff harsh side was just a cover for his abandonment issues, protecting his heart from getting hurt…again. Now Shar I liked from the very start. All the horrendous things she’s had to endure. Shivers!
I really enjoyed the multiple layers that are involved in this book. First, you have a love story between Griff and Shar. It’s not all smooth sailing with these two and I do love a rocky boat. Next up, plenty of intrigue. Escaping where they are held, the extreme politics in the ES and who really is the good guys. Then there is the whole apocalyptic side. I get the feeling that is going to be one crazy mystery that is will be revealed in layers throughout the series. I really can’t wait to find out more about the Veil and what caused the difference between ES and WS. And did someone mention there are more Veils?! However, I found the best part about the book was the ending. Yes, Griff and Shar get their HEA, but, it wasn’t a nice neat clean one. This is a harsh new world that they are attempting to repair. You can’t have a HEA tied up in a pretty bow. You need one that compliments the story and I’m happy to say, that’s what the author delivered. Now for the hard part, waiting for the next book to come out.
I received this book from the JeepDiva for the express purposes of an honest review. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine. Stars - 4, Flames - 3
I read the first book over a year and a half ago so I don't remember everything about it. But I remembered enough and I remembered loving it. So I was a little let down with how I didn't enjoy this one nearly as much. Though I think a lot of that has to do with them being is the ES and spending almost half the book locked up and tortured. Not exploring the wonders of the WS and having fun.
Griff and Shar made a pretty good couple, but what drove me nuts was that neither of them would explain things when something would strain their relationship. They both just let misunderstandings and wrong ideas get between them when all it would take would be a simple question to clear things up.
We start out with the attack that began at the end of the last book shortly before everything went wrong. Griff manages to find Shar, but before they can escape, the damage to the building takes them out and down they go. Only to awaken a few days later locked up. The mental connection between Griff and Shar when they wake up becomes a comfort for both. Definitely for Griff who never thought he would miss his three friends deep in his head as much as he does when they're gone. Suffering thru their various tortures and questioning, the chance for their escape finally presents itself. And they take it.
Even though they manage to get away they are nowhere near safe. Fortunately, Shar's brother is leader of the resistance and sends people to pick them up. There's just something between the two of them that goes beyond the mental connection drawing them to each other. And things are looking happy between them until a complication shows up in the form of their rescue. Misunderstandings abound and they each just keep hurting the other without even knowing it.
Once they reach the colony where Shar lived before her capture, things get straightened out but a fear that Griff can't hide enough sends Shar fleeing to NYC. It's there that she becomes entangled with another who is doing what he can by himself to take down the government. And she jumps on board with his plan when she figures out who he is. Which would have gone off without a hitch if not for the fact that Griff followed her and ends up caught up with another Other. And things go from bad to worse for Griff and Shar.
By the end some things get worked out while others are still unknown. But to be honest, I didn't really like the end.
What I really liked was the twist of who became the new president of the ES.
Loved this story, but I'm even more excited about what's coming next ;)
In hind sight, I probably should have re-read the first book in this series, Through the Veil, before I started Allied in Flight. Especially since it had been over a year since I read it. I still might go back and read the first book, but Christi Snow did a really good job of giving just enough hints, without totally retelling the previous story, that I caught up to speed in no time. ;) From the very first chapter, there wasn't a lot of down time in Allied in Flight. Griff was a loner. He had no idea signing onto this rescue mission would change his perspective on so many levels. Regardless, love wasn't something he was looking for and definitely not something he wanted. Shar had known nothing but captivity for the past 3 years, so trust didn't come easy. Until she knew her sister was safe, nothing else mattered. Fate had very different plans for both Shar and Griff. Obviously I loved Griff and Shar's story, but I also loved the twists and turns that made up the story, which included quite a few supporting characters. Some were new and some were introduced previously. Some were pure evil and some I still haven't figured out yet. But that's okay, because it means that there is much more to come. I love this unique world that the author has created and can't wait to see what happens next.
I have to say that things wrapped up a little too quickly at the end, but that's probably just me wanting more. It's a common occurrence in stories I love and it happens frequently when I read this author's stories. I also have to admit that as much as I loved Griff and Shar's story, I was more than a little excited to learn that a couple of my favorite characters will be getting their own story. Sorry, I can't tell you which ones, but you'll know by the end of Allied in Flight who I'm talking about ;) I kinda had a soft spot for them from the moment they were introduced.
So... if you like unique fantasy world building with some heated romance and interesting characters, crazy twists, a world view that makes you think, and more than a few mysteries, Through the Veil should definitely be added to your TBR list ;)
I received Allied in Flight in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Allied in Flight is the second volume in the The Veil series of which I was allowed to read and review the first volume, Through the Veil (https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...), that I liked a lot.
The universe created by the author is quite interesting. 58 years a gorge cut in two the United States. The two sides of the gorge evolved differently, without contact with each other. In the East the survivors with powers are hunted down and locked up in labs, when in the West every survivors have powers, communicate more or less with the nature, and above all find themselves with big wings with bright feathers.
Allied in Flight starts directly where we stopped with Through the Veil, when a team from the West attacks a lab in the East to free some friends of the previous heroine. Griff, the hero, is wounded during the attack and wakes up in another lab, where he meets Shar, one of the prisoners he was charged to free. There are some difficult scenes when they are forcibly “studied”, but they have an immediate mental connection that allows them to give each other support, until they succeed in escaping and be recovered by the Resistance.
I found that in spite of the qualities of both characters and the alchemy between them, their couple suffered from the lack of communication. It’s something that annoy me, but when the characters can also communicate by thought and read a part of the other’s feelings, the lasting misunderstandings based on a lack of real communication is a big negative point.
The story is interesting, we discover this East side that has less changed, but where some militia hunts down those who are different, and where the adults who didn’t disappeared hold the reins of a corrupted world. There’s also the appearance of intriguing characters on the heroes’ side or on the power’s side, but I thought something was missing and the end was a bit rushed. However I’ll be there for the next adventures.
Things are getting a wee bit tangled for those from the WS. And for those from the ES, come to think. Danger, heartache, and betrayal are just a few of the problems our heroes (and heroines) have to face.
When Griff ends up imprisoned during the botched rescue attempt, he has to rely on his wits and the sexy shifter he was sent to save. Might I just say there were some interesting allies that arose. I'm not quite sure what to think of one of them and whether they're trustworthy or what their endgame is. Things could get very complicated down the line.
Right. Griff and Shar. After years of captivity, Shar is desperate. Her link to her sister has been severed and she's running on empty. Meeting Griff and finding out why he'd come is almost too good to be true and their connection complicates (there's that word again!) things. Because Shar is hot for Griff and he's hot for her and this isn't the best time to be getting kissy-faced.
But you can't deny attraction. Even when the timing's all wrong and you're from two different worlds.
We get to delve deeper into the politics of the ES and see how things haven't changed since the Veil rose. It's a crazy, messed up world, but there are people working on making changes. Big, complicated changes. Which, of course, are the best type.
When the rescue mission of the Others ends with Griff’s capture, Shar is surprised to find that her connection to Savannah is gone but a new connection to an unknown man opens up. With the ES never having seen the likes of Griff, they use Shar to try and seduce him to learn more information about him. When she learns that he is the one who tried to save her, a true connection is formed between them. Now they must work together to get away from the ES labs. In doing so they find a love in each other. With the help of the Rebellion and a man from Shar’s past, they find their way out but only to lose each other again while trying to fight the connection they have. Their love for each needs to keep them stronger to continue to help find the truth of the Veil and the ES.
Always a fan of Christi Snow, I am looking forward to more stories in this series. Since I read one right after the other it helped to keep the stories fresh. But now I fear I will have to wait awhile for the next one. But with the idea of the characters coming up, they no doubt will be worth the wait. So once again, thank you Christi Snow for another great read. I can’t wait to see where this series goes!
I read Through the Veil so I was couldn't wait for Allied in Flight. It was worth the wait. I was not sure at first when Griff and Shar didn't go back to WS but the story was so good I was not disappointed in the slightest in the direction the story did take. The new characters introduced are just as interesting as all the characters I loved from the first book. Snow has continued to give more details that explain this new world and what happened when the Veil fell. As more and more people understand that things in the ES are corrupt, the rebellion is gaining ground. This is one of my favorite series.
Avis complet https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I absolutely loved "Through the Veil," but "Allied in Flight" did not flow smoothly for me. It was difficult to get past instalove and instasex. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series to see what happens.
