During the summer of 2014 an unusually high number of Ogopogo sightings are recorded. A marine biology professor, Dr. Lionel Hardy decides that he will work on an Ogopogo research project during his sabbatical leave. A select group of university students have a similar project in mind and ask Dr. Hardy to join their expedition to search for Ogopogo. When financing this enterprise becomes an issue they seek the help of Blake Riley, a rich and successful entrepreneur. Blake’s goal is to capture a live specimen of Ogopogo to keep in a small lake that is part of his private zoo. Garry Hardy, Dr. Lionel Hardy’s son, takes a Greyhound bus trip to Kelowna. As Garry has serious mental health issues, he becomes a patient in The Kelowna Mental Health Center. While there, he establishes a friendship with another patient, Wally Standfield. Wally introduces Garry to his eccentric grandfather, Winston Churchill Standfield who also has a strong interest in searching for Ogopogo. John Richards, a Canadian author, has his family join him for the summer. He is attempting to free himself from writer’s block and decides to write a novel that features Ogopogo. The Lake Demon is more than a novel about a legendary lake monster. It is the story of people who are pursuing their dreams and trying to gain redemption, while encountering significant obstacles.
