This is a well-written, steamy, hockey romance. It has a hot, younger hero, a strong female protagonist, a likable cast of supporting characters, plenty of drama, and a happily ever after ending.

description

Cool ice and high emotion means this story sizzles…
There is definitely an ensemble feel to this first in the series about a new NHL hockey team in, of all places, Las Vegas. If I didn’t think the middle of the desert sounded like a good place to put on skates then I have been proven wrong as the Sidewinders have moved in and they are playing for keeps…
Dom Gianni has a bit of a temper problem which means this is a lucky, and probably last, chance to get back in the NHL good books. He plans on following the rules and performing all the tasks he must to ensure he gets to play the game he loves. What he didn’t account for was to play white knight as he interrupts a scene of domestic violence. Molly was used to being beaten down, physically and every way, so she wasn’t sure she wanted to be rescued. With little options one way or the other, the two strike an unlikely alliance as they both battle their demons.
I thought this was going to be insta-love but it really wasn’t. Given how they met, that worked well as Dom and Molly work through the kinks in friendship before they consider love. Dom is protective but a bit standoffish at the same time as their relationship has to weather challenges from more than one front. Molly was a bit more of a mystery to me though her actions spoke loudly as she kept moving forward away from the hell that was her life. She was determined to succeed but not at a cost to the people who supported her. Two haunted souls were going to find something in each other they couldn’t see in anyone else…
High drama mixed closely with the camaraderie between all the players and the extended hockey family. The whole team is involved and Dom and Molly are not the only ones dealing with problems. Add in a few intriguing sub-plots, twisty turns, a pinch of soap and this was an entertaining story from start to finish. I have a really soft spot for Toli, who was funny and endearing all the way through. Such a quirky character with a heart of gold. Hunky hockey goodness and this was only the start. Bring on Drake’s story!

Las Vegas Sidewinders: Dominic is the first novel in Kat Mizera's hockey romance series. A spicy hockey thriller about second chances and choices we make. Dom Gianni loves what he does for a living, but when demons from his past start to affect his job as an enforcer in the NHL, he needs to make a change. The NHL is expanding and his old college coach wants him to be a leader with the Las Vegas Sidewinders. Molly McCarran has lived in a loveless marriage and has been abused for more than half of her life, when Dom and a friend see Molly being attacked they intervene and Dom can't help wanting to protect her. Molly doesn't understand why this hot young hockey player could want with an older women since she's 12 years older than him. With a jealous and abusive husband still out there she take his help and when friendship turns to something else can they overcome the age gap and open up to each other?

What a page turner this novel was. I couldn't put it down and devoured it in a day! It's not a perfect novel, I had issues with the how quick the characters moved and some of the dialogue was repetitive and overdone but overall it's a great start to the series, romances are fantasy so I just went with it. POV could be defined a little more - it does jump from character to character within chapters and sometimes from paragraph too. I love hockey and hockey romances and loved the play on Las Vegas as an expansion team - hockey in the desert is an amusing idea. Even though the story was mainly about Dom & Molly we met so many side characters, I'm sure we'll meet in the other books as well, it was not overwhelming to keep them all straight. I'd actually like to see a full book on Cody & Suzie - their backstory is heartbreaking and very interesting. I'm sure you'll be wrapped up in this story as much as I was and enjoy the ride. 4 Stars for Las Vegas Sidewinders: Dominic by Kat Mizera.

I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did! The synopsis seemed a bit far fetched...hot hockey player saves battered older woman from lifetime of abuse and they live happily ever after...
What Kat is able to capture was a very believable story of two broken people who find salvation in each other. The detailed way she takes the reader through the process of healing and the suspense she builds knowing that Molly's ex husband and abuser is always lurking in the shadows make it a real page turner.
This isn't a perfect love story. Both main characters are deeply flawed human beings. This is a story of triumph over very real obstacles both internal and external that two people who love each other are able to achieve. The fame, money and connections of being a pro athlete definitely help though.

A solid read that was difficult to take a break from.
I enjoy a sports read, especially Hockey and when I sat down to read this I wasn’t sure what to expect. But I was pleasantly surprised, because with this being the first in the series, I can now see a few late nights read in my very immediate future.
The story centres around Dominic, well why not…I certainly would! And the other half to the pair is Molly, now I found Molly a little wishy washy initially, she was in a relationship with a man that was simply repulsive, she didn’t deserve the life she had at his hand but she seemed to spend a lot of time almost justifying why she was still there and not where she needed to be, with Dominic.
Dominic wasn’t perfect, he had his own share of heartache and he lived with the repercussions of past events. He has almost burdened himself by a level of guilt that I found hard to comprehend, it was such a shame that he felt that level of pain. I loved the fact that as a strong, sexy alpha man, he was so much more than a handsome face, he was a thoughtful, deep man who took his responsibilities seriously.
I like the fact that the author gave them both the opportunity to work their own stuff out, to really think things through and to reach their own decisions in due course.
They were friends and as expected Dom was there for her, but the attraction refused to lay low, they couldn’t fight the way they felt about each other but circumstances were far from straightforward.
Dominic played the long game, almost letting her loose so to speak, to find her own way back to him, and I thought that was a well-made point by the author, Molly had to see that she was worth more than she was getting, that she was worth more than the abusive relationship that she was currently enduring.
And when the penny dropped, the relationship that they created was beautiful. They held nothing back once they were together and as the book gathered speed towards its conclusion the intensity of the book actually took me by surprise.
I said earlier that this was more than I thought it was going to be and by the end of the book you will see why!

Saving her ultimately saves him…
This was such a compelling book, I was totally absorbed by the love story that developed between Dom and Molly as they struggled to rebuild their lives with personal traumas weighing so heavily on them. When Dom saved Molly from the man he witnessed beating her, he has no idea that he was actually the one that was going to be saved. Molly, who’s self esteem has been butchered by her abusive husband, simply cannot fathom why Dom would be interested in anything more than a friendship with her. As they forge first a tentative friendship and then fall into something deeper, they can’t escape the spectre of their pasts however, and the suspense escalates as they’re both forced to realize that they can’t simply avoid the issues burdening them.
Surrounded by their friends and teammates, I loved the playful comradery between the entire cast of characters as their intertwined stories played out. With the group history surfacing and loyalties being questioned, Dom and Molly aren’t the only ones looking to heal as this team looks to build a future together. I was swept away by this story, and look forward to the next installment of the Sidewinders.
Please note that I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I love the story and the characters (wel except Tim) but I’m not crazy about the writing style.
This book is written from a multiple point of view and the shifts from one head to another aren’t clear enough to my taste.

The author has created a great set of friends, with amazing backstories and a lot of potential for more books. I might want to read those, but first I have to get my bearings and recover from the head hopping.

I received a free copy of Dominique through the author’s newsletter. I wrote this review voluntarily and this is my honest opinion.

Dom and Molly

Dom is one of the best guys I have read about in a long time. Dom didn't care that Molly was older then him. I loved how Dom and his teammates stood up and protected Molly from her ex husband Tim . I don't like when females get abused in books .

This one dragged. It was good and the ending was satisfying, but it could’ve been so much shorter. There was such useless balboa in between and most characters behaviours were so annoying. The miscommunication trope at the end was beyond infuriating and simply put a sour feeling for me. The only one I truly liked was Toli. Even Suze annoyed tf out of me, all the girls did.

Check for trigger warnings. Dom and Molly are a surprising but perfect match. I appreciated how seemlessly other characters were included, including their perspective without it ever feeling crowded or confusing. The series has been set up perfectly because at the end of book 1 I already want all of the characters stories.

I hadn't ever read anything by this author until I read a series she co-wrote with Brenda Rothert, which I enjoyed and wanted to check out her books. I didn't know much about this one going into it, other than hockey romance. And can I say it was so much better than I expected! I really liked that Dom jumped into do the right thing when he saw what was happening to Molly and then gave her a safe place to figure out her next steps. But it wasn't only the safe place, it was introducing her to people who were kind and genuinely interested in her, a place to find friends, a place to belong, along with finding trust in a man again.

Things weren't easy and Molly's past came back to hurt her and those that helped her in horrible ways, but each time everyone stood behind her and gave her strength to go on. The last time was so crazy! I was glad that they had thought of a communication plan ahead of time and that everyone was ready to do what was needed. The only bad thing was Dom and his reaction afterwards. I got why he was freaked out, but I also got why Molly needed more and did what she did. I was glad when Dom was clued in and could fix things, because these 2 deserved all the happiness they found at the end.

Well, it's nearly a 5 star. I read all evening 11 pm- 2 am because I couldn't put down.
A few things bothered me about the writing but not the story.
I loved the characters and I felt nearly all the anguish and fear that sweet Molly went through.

I've read these out of order now I want to go through series again.
Love Kat's hockey characters from Las Vegas!!!

Dom and Molly go through alot in this story. Even though the storyline is only a couple of months long, the author crams so much activity into this story that it keeps you on your toes and turning the pages. Dom and Molly meet totally by accident. He turns out to be the knight in shining armor that she needs. Saving Molly turns into the best thing that Dom could have done, both for her and himself. They heal each other and discover a brand new life together. In addition, Molly finds a whole new bunch of friends. Lots of action, suspense and danger with some hot sex thrown in for good measure along with an HEA. Scenery descriptions could have been a little more detailed in order to give a better mind's eye view. But other than that, this story is great and so are the characters. Can't wait to read more about the other couples that we meet in this story.

3.5 out of 5

I’m a real fan of hockey romances and what with the playoffs happening it as I’ve to read one. Although I have a few hockey romances by this author on th TBR pile, this is the first one I’ve read. It was ok; not bad but one I doubt I’d read again.

Dominic has recently been traded to an expansion team located in Vegas. He’d been traded by his previous team as he was a problem player with a viscous temper. Currently under suspension he has a few hurdles to jump before he can play again. He has to take anger management classes and appear before a board of review.

He’s out with a friend and fellow teammate when they come across a man beating his wife. They intervene, rescue the woman and chase off the husband. Molly, the woman they rescue, has been abused for years and has no family or friends that can help her out and she’s terrified of what her husband will do. Dominic offers to let her stay with him until she can get on her feet. Although reluctant, Molly agrees.

There is an attraction between the two though Molly is in no state to do anything about it. She’s pretty bruised and beaten, has no self esteem and is older than Dom. And of course Dom is a famous wealthy athlete and why on earth would he have any special feelings for her.

But Dom is a caretaker at heart. He also has no family and he feels a great deal of guilt for not being able to help a friend a number of years previously and this in fact is the basis of a great deal of his anger. In helping Molly, he feels it helps make up for his failure in the past.

I can’t put my finger on exactly why this book didn’t work as well as I hoped it would. In writing up this outline it sounds very interesting and I think it’s more of a case of it’s not the book, it’s me. Hopefully it works better for other readers. I do have other books by Kat Mizera and I’m more than willing to read them.

I've started this series backwards and the need to know more overcome everything so I just wanted to start reading this series property and go from there.
As everyone knows I love this author. Her words and precious books made an addict so I wanted more and more.
Kat Mizera is the one to blame. Her writing is hot, wild, intense and with so much feeling between every chapter that once I started I simply couldn't stop.
Dominic is the first book from the Las Vegas Sidewinders and tells Don and Molly's story.
Dominic is committed to his job, a job he loves despite his temper... He's an Enforcer in the NHL and lives for that spot. But when his past demons return to haunt him, his game starts to change. He needs to get his head back into the game and when a proposal to become a player for the Las Vegas Sidewinders arrives he really needs to figure everything out.
Molly's life hadn't been easy. Used to be abused by her husband she only seeks happiness but being with that piece of shi*** has become unbearable.
One day she is saved by a hunk of a men and she can't imagine the turn her life is about to get.
And I'm done talking...
The plot was emotional, engaging and intense. The way the story progressed left me wanting to know more about these two. Things were happening and I wanted answers.
This book will present us with drama, pain, violence, abuse as well as love, friendship, comaderie and happiness.
No one is to damaged to find happiness so we need to fight for what we believe and go from there.
I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to start book 2.
Thank you Kat for another amazing story. You're creating a monster, lol, addicted to your books.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I am not a hockey fan actually I am not a sports fan at all, but you don't have to be to fall in love with this book. Dom is broken full of rage over the death of the death of best friend Brian. He has been carrying that around a long time and now he is on his last chance to play professional hockey if he messes this up it's over for him.

Molly has lived with abuse from her husband so long that she has given up, he is a cop and and she does not think she will ever be able to run from him. She sees her only choice is to drive him into a rage that he kills her.

She is doing just that when Dom and his friend Cody stumble upon her being beaten in an alley. They save her and Dom insists on taking her to his place.

This is a slow burn romance it is not love at first sight these two very broken people find what they need in each other to begin to heal. What I really liked is when you meet Molly she is overweight frumpy and her face is so battered you can't tell how she looks so Dom helping her has nothing to do with her being beautiful. Later you find out she is almost forty to his almost thirty. Watching these two stumble on their way to happy ever was frustrating at times which made for good reading there were times I found myself crying. I was rooting for them to make it and could not wait to see her husband brought down.

What makes the story so rich was the secondary characters Cody and Suzi and their story of heartbreak and redemption. Toli the player from Russia I can't wait to read more about. The coach and his wife who were the parents of Brian.

I am looking forward to reading all the books in this series. I know that Kat just wrapped it up but on the brightside I won't have to wait for the book.

I very much enjoyed this story of two broken and damaged individuals finding love whilst healing each other. The story was well written and I really liked how it didn't conclude swiftly after 'the big showdown'. The writing is good and the book was easy to read. It is written 3rd person but from various characters POV's. Whilst I like this format for Sci-Fi, Urban Fantasy etc it felt a little overwhelming in a contemporary romance. That said I did like the side characters, some of whom played quite a large role in this book and all of whom were well written.

Whilst I liked both main characters, I found I engaged with Dom more than Molly. I didn't dislike her but I found her a little flat. As a more mature woman, I get irritated when characters of a similar age to me are supposedly as hot, sexy and flexible as a 20 year old. So I should have loved Molly's talk of grey hair and crow's feet but for some reason I didn't. Whilst I'm sure the intention was to show that a hot younger hockey player could find an imperfect older woman attractive, it just made Molly seem a little whiny. Dom had mainly been drawn to Molly because of her eyes and her personality but I'd rather have kept the whole physical appearance issue out of the equation. A case of the less said the better.

The plot was engaging and over all I really enjoyed the story. It has a slightly different feel to Kat's later work and it's obvious she has grown as an author since publishing this (her first book). I loved entering the world of the Las Vegas Sidewinders and will definitely be continuing with this series of books.

If you love a good hockey romance than you have to read Dominic! It is the first book in the Las Vegas Sidewinders series.
Dom is trying to fix his bad reputation in the NHL. He will now be playing for the new expansion team in Las Vegas Under his old college coach and with some of his old college teammates. It has been years since they all suffered the loss of a beloved friend and team mate but Dom blames himself. As a result of the guilt he has a temper, especially on the ice, and because of his this he is forced to go to anger management in order to continue playing in the NHL. Deep down he is a great guy with a big heart and you can see that when he sees a lady being beaten by her husband. From the beginning he knows that Molly needs his help and he offers his protection and his home to her, a complete stranger.
Molly knows nothing but pain from years of abuse by her husband. She has not had any friends or family, but when Dom offers to help her it is not only he who offers her friendship but those that care about him bring her into their fold.
This story is about two people helping to heal each other...heart, body and soul and finding the love that they both deserve within each other.

The plan was to read just this book. I will be meeting the author soon and wanted to be prepared. What I wasn't prepared for was how much I loved the book. There is no way I will stop at just one book.

I got sucked in by the characters. The hockey players were yummy, but they had issues that I really enjoyed following--some were so tragic that I had my heart ripped out. In the end, the bunch of misfits stood together to protect their own.

There were so many side stories wrapped in the little book called Dominic. I never got bored. I always had something exciting to read. Never once did I skim the pages looking for the good part. All of it was the good part.

The love story that was weaved within the book was fantastic. You could see the possibilities when Dominic and Cody rescued her from her abusive husband. Today was not her day to die. With Dominic by her side it is her day to live and love. The journey to their HEA is filled with so many terrible situations. They don't have to conquer one thing, but so many issues that I had to wonder if the evil in their world would ever disappear.

Now if you will excuse me, Drake is waiting for my attention.

This book was absolutely amazing, I cried many times while reading,
Dominic's past shattered me but Molly OMG what she lived with for 20 some
years was just as heart breaking, Dominic has just moved to Vegas and is going
to be part of the new expansion team the Sidewinders. This is going to be his last
chance to stay in the NHL he has stipulations he has to follow (due to an incident on the ice)
anger management and therapy with a physiologist. His first day in Vegas he has
met up with his best friend Cody. (I did love how we got to know so many of the player
and others in this series starter) When Cody and Dominic hear a woman yelling they
go to investigate and what they see is horrible, A man beating on a woman, Dominic steps
in and even though Cody feels he shouldnt Dominic just knows that he needs to help this woman.
He couldnt help Brian and that survivors guilt is what has followed Dominic for years now.
This book is one of those that you just cant put down, you will become invested in the lives
of all the characters in this story and you will want to continue with the series. I HIGHLY recommend this book!

The couple: Dominic and Molly

Romance trope: sports
Series: Las Vegas Sidewinders
Length: 384 pages

Plot: Dominic has used up all of his chances in the league, after several concerning incidents on the ice. He has one last opportunity to get himself under control. In the midst of all of that, he meets Molly, the victim of severe abuse from her cop husband. He gives her a place to stay and in the process falls in love. But Molly will have to work on herself and make some big decisions before she can be in a healthy relationship with Dom.

Commentary: There was definitely a case of insta-love going on and it didn't really make sense. I understand why he wanted to help her - who wouldn't? I even understand why calling the police wasn't necessarily a good solution But then he moved her into his home, she was broken, beaten, insecure, older, and completely dependent on him for everything, and he was like "yep, that's what I've always wanted in a soul mate, let's have a baby!" Love doesn't have to make sense, but I guess the story does.
But more than that, the story didn't necessarily focus on the couple. There was so much left unexplored because we were busy getting Toli's story and Suze and Cody's story. And they still get their own books (or novella, in Cody's case). Everyone is instant best friends and it seemed a shortcut for character development.
It was a diversion, but I'm not sure I was sold on the main relationship of the story. Live and learn.

Next book in the series: Cody's Christmas Surprise

Molly and Dominic—they met when her abusive husband was beating her and Dom and his pro hockey teammate rescued her. Dom took her to live with him in his new place to keep her under the radar while she healed and filed for divorce. She became friends with his best friend’s wife and their coach’s wife, which was healing emotionally for her. He was on probation with the NHL over illegal aggression on the ice. Over time, they fall in love, despite her being 12 years older than him. When her ex kidnaps her and Dom and some of his teammates rescue her, they have a huge fight and she checks out of the hospital while he’s away for a game. It’s only when she needs money for surgery that one of her doctors contacts him. They reconcile, find out they’re pregnant, and get married to start their HEA. There are a lot of other sub-plots, as well, but they somehow work together, even though they seem incongruous on the surface.

I jumped right into Dominic's story in the Sidewinders Series. I loved how much we got to see the other upcoming characters in the next books. I could not put this book down!

Dom's instant protector was unleashed when he happens upon Molly. Molly is being abused and almost killed by her husband on the night they cross paths. She has lived this life for 20 years.... and to see this beautiful woman give up makes Dom run to protect her. His best friend Cody is with him and they both help get her to safety.

Molly doesn't know who to trust, but she finds friendships and love with this group of Hockey players and their wives.

As Dom and Molly both heal together, they she great strength to get to their happiness.

Toli has to be the funniest most charming character in this book.

I cannot wait to get to the next book in this series!

I enjoyed this story though there is a theme of domestic violence in this story that may be a trigger to some people.
It's an unusual beginning to a story but Dom comes between Molly and her abusive police officer husband.
Molly just wants out of the pain and thinks dying is the answer ,after 20years of beating and more than a dozen miscarriages.
Dom has other ideas, He cannot and will not leave her at that jackasses mercy. He gives her a place to stay and tries to help her get a divorce and on with her life. Neither one thinking that love would find them.
Police domestic abuse is not uncommon, and is not always taken care of for the abused spose.
It is a beautiful love story and a tough story because the cops are supposed to be the good guys, there are mistakes and misunderstandings
and trying to move forward from the demons of the past

Dominic by Kat Mizera is book One of the Las Vegas Sidewinders Series. This book was very well written and was a very quick read. This book is a Hockey sports romance so if you love those types of books you will love this one Dom Gianni is an NHL Hockey Player which means he is in tip top shape and of course good looking. On the ice, he is use to taking a beating but when he stumbles upon a husband beating up his wife he knows no matter what he needs to step in and protect her. Dom decides to rescue Molly McCarran and give her a place to stay. Can Molly trust Dom enough to allow him to help her? You must read the book to find out the whole story! This book did have some violence in it. There was also some sexual content but the scenes are done tastefully. I Really liked this book and once and I got reading it I didn’t want to put it down.
