Aurora Stone knows what it means to keep the rules. She's lived with the expectations of the people around her. The only person who's expectations aren't met? Hers. On the spur of the moment, Aurora decides to break the rules. Only the list seems endless and Aurora is a little overwhelmed by it. When she sees Landon sat at the bar watching her, she makes a split second decision that might just change her life, one broken rule at a time. The list of broken rules quickly exceeds the number of rules they keep as they embark on this whirl wind adventure of control and chaos.
Hanleigh is a USA Today Bestselling Author and is about as English as it's possible to be, without actually being English.
She first fell in love with books as a child reading Dr Seuss, but moved onto romance when she first read Pride and Prejudice at the age of twelve. She wishes she could live inside the world inside her mind, but since that isn't possible she puts pen to paper and shares that world with her readers instead.
Broken Rules by Hanleigh Bradley is the first book in a three book series. It is a contemporary romance set in London and is a treat for romance lovers for sure.
Aurora Stone has led her life following a rigid set of rules dictated by her parents. Her sister chose to ignore them but Aurora, being the good girl as always, doesn't even think of it until a night at a bar where she is celebrating the return of her close friend. A glance at Landon and she somehow knows that she will be breaking a few rules with him. Landon, on the other hand, is a person who never sleeps with a woman twice but as it turns out, even he ends up breaking and twisting quite a few rules himself. Despite their personal indifference, they find themselves drawn towards each other without reservations until each one encounters a secret from the respective families. Where will their relationship go from here on?
The title is apt for the book because that is exactly what it is about. Breaking rules and finding that it doesn't necessarily have to be disastrous. Well, from the start the story is a nice romantic tale set in modern London. The narrative is interesting and fast paced. The writing style is perfect for a romance, not bogging you down with too many details.
Overall, a quick read for romance buffs and there is a continuation to the story, so you may want to keep the next book in the series ready with you!
Broken Rules was a refreshing, beautiful and an unputdownable read!
Aurora and Landon, the perfect opposites, are absolutely made for each other.
The characters of Broken Rules made me trust the romance genre once more. I was so fed up with all the recent books being about the 'intimidating CEO' and the shy girl.
Sure Landon is said to be intimidating, and he is a CEO, but he's not cold. I found Landon's POVs to be cuter than Aurora's!
So yeah, I hands down loved Broken Rules and am really eager to read Enforced Rules!
This is the authors debut novel and she has done a great job. Broken Rules is the first book in this three book series and has had me intrigued from the first page. Aurora is the “perfect” child and has always obeyed the rules until she decides that it’s time to break a few of them. Landon uses rules to control his life but he seems to have met the woman who will have him breaking them all. This novel is set in London and I’ve really enjoyed the language as it’s where I call home too. Although this is a sweet story there is drama and some seriously hot sex going on and just enough kink to keep me happy. I’m looking forward to the next book!!
Be it Landon's self-imposed rules or the rules set forth by Aurora's parents, these two set about breaking as many as they can.
Intimacy outside of marriage? ✔ Sleepovers? ✔ Dates? ✔ Feelings? Oh yeah. That's a ✔ ✔
It's an interesting story. I didn't like when the clock rolled back and we "relived" the moments from the other POV, especially when there wasn't much added to moving the story forward. Other than that, I like the story and characters and look forward to seeing what the next installment brings them.
When it comes to the narration, Shelby Hughes is good as Aurora but Landon's personality needed a deeper, more masculine voice.
Amount of sex 4 / 5 How explicit 3.5 / 5 Story 4 / 5 Overall: 4 / 5
Broken Rules is the first book in the Rules series by Author Hanleigh Bradley and the first that I have read from the author. As the title suggests, this book is all about rules. Aurora has always been the good girl and follows every rule that her parents set. She now lives in an apartment with her two friends and she starts questioning her life. Aurora decides she’s old enough to do what she wants and begins the mission to break each of her parent’s rules.
Landon is a playboy and has a set of rules that he follows, but for a different reason. He created those rules to prevent any of his conquests from getting attached to him. So, when they meet at a bar, not only do her rules get broken, but so does his.
I really love this steamy novel and can’t wait to read the next in the series, Enforcing Rules! A definite add to your TBR list!
This book was s bombass!!! So you have this girl who basically grew up with the strictest parents ever! They gave her bunches o rules to follow and like any good daughter she tried to follow them, only she was too good at it! She had never broken a rule in her life, now Aurora has missed out on some great opportunities in life because she never went against her parents word. Her friends Talullah and Cameron are focused on changing that. Rule one. Never have sex out of wedlock... Yea lets fix that right now! Landon is also a man of rules but for some reason anytime he is with Rory he can't seem to follow his own rules, when his life is turned upside down due to a family secret he turns to her for solace. This book was really good and I can't wait to read the next one. The only con I had about the whole thing was the use of so many nick names, Talullah, Lou, Lullah... Aurora, Roo, Rory.... at points I couldn't keep up but once I did... BOMBASS!!
This book is exactly what the title says. It's about Aurora and Landon both having an extensive list of rules, and breaking them. Aurora was the perfect child, following every rule her parents set, yet she’s sick of it. She meets Landon at a bar when they go out to celebrate Tallulah’s return from University. There’s an instant attraction to Landon that makes her want to throw caution to the wind. Landon set rules for himself about the women he takes home, and with Aurora, he can't seem to follow his own rules. Landon and Aurora comes from wealthy families that put pressure on them. During the story, you find out secrets such as Aurora’s sister, and Landon’s brother aren't what they appear to be. This is a great read. Definitely looking forward to reading the second book in this series.
Broken Rules by Hanleigh Bradley is a Contemporary Billionaire Romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Shelby Hughes.
This is the third book of Hanleigh’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. The story does end on a cliffhanger but that was no surprise since it’s the first book in The Rules Series. I cannot wait for the second book Enforced Rules to be released on audible.
Shelby did a good job on the narration. I liked that she used different voice/tones for the characters. The only thing I wished is that the narrator could have done the British accent for Landon.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves Contemporary Romance, Billionaire Romance, or steamy Romances.
This was so much fun!! Okay so do you want to know what happens when a good girl decides to be bad? To say F* it to all the rules she’s been abiding by her whole life? Well just that alone, you know it's going to be a ride when Miss Aurora takes a risk and goes wild for the next 48 hours. But what really makes this story light of the page is when Aurora is taken under the wing of the very bad boy Landon! And don’t we all want to be bad with a bad boy at least once? Well, this is a ride you won't forget. I laughed, I cheered and I loved these two together so much! Hanleigh Bradley’s words were a breath of fresh air and just what I needed to kick off the summer.
This book had all my favorite things. Wealth, secrets, London, sexy scenes, witty conversations, and men who talk like men and women who talk like women. I loved it. So much tension and off the pages chemistry. I'm starting the next one right now.
HEARTFELT!❤ An engrossing twisted read that at times was very hard to put down! A heartfelt storyline that grabs hold of your heart, mind and soul! Raw nail-biting intense drama that keeps you glued to your seat! An enjoyable must read that does not disappoint!👍👍👍👍👍
"It's bizarre how she finds her rules limit her whilst I think my rules give me freedom." I was really excited to read this one. It didn't go exactly as I expected, but was still good. The fast pace would make it great for entertaining readers on a trip. It's got drama and a bit of emotion, but not so much that it would be too heavy; perfect for a nice, vacation read. Aurora Stone is fed up with being the "perfect" daughter and following the seemingly endless set stifling rules her proper parents have given her. She's never broken a rule before, but now she's out to see just how many she can break in a night. Well on her way to being drunk for the first time in her life, Aurora meets Landon Peters, a wickedly handsome man with his own set of rules. Unlike Aurora, all of Landon's rules are self-inflicted. He believes that his rules about never sleeping with the same woman twice, never letting them stay the night, and never giving the impression that he's open to a relationship ensures his freedom. After deciding he wants to be the one to help Aurora break her rules, Landon quickly finds himself breaking his own. What's more, the more time he spends with her, the less he cares. When said that this was fast paced, I wasn't kidding. The whole thing takes place during the span of barely 48 hours, and the ending came off as a bit abrupt. Still, it was fun to watch all their different family drama and secrets unfold. Also, Aurora's friends Cameron and Tallulah are fabulous! Even better, see for yourself as Aurora and Landon discover that the best rules are Broken Rules. Check out my other reviews here and follow me please!
This is a captivating romance that delves into the world of control and explores the consequences of breaking the rules for those who have them imposed on them by others or by themselves …
Aurora is a bright, beautiful , careful young woman I love the conflict between her good girl persona and her need to explore a more carefree existence. Landon is clever, successful and controlled ..it is fascinating to see how his character develops through the course of the book….both tell the story from their perspectives providing a first hand account of their inner thought processes and conflicts….governed by rules and family expectations and responsibilities in so many ways these two are perfect but also have their own personal demons to address…in addition to the protagonists the secondary cast of friends and family are also intriguing and I would like to read more about them…
The imagined world in which the characters interact and the characters themselves are well described and believable and their responses to the unfolding events feel genuine…the fact that both Aurora and Landon provide their respective points of view ensures this except when Landon first meets Aurora and appears utterly beguiled by a stranger and then later on discloses some information that his POV should have divulged earlier.. this seemed unrealistic…
I loved the premise of the book from this new, to me, author ..the pace is suitably measured and the plot is engrossing …there is humour as well as the requisite angst when family secrets threaten the status quo… ultimately this is a feel good story with a cliffhanger ending which makes me want to pick up the next in the series…I received a copy of this book as a gift from the author
I met these two characters when reading "Damaged Intimacy", I wanted to know more than but thought I had to wait for the next installment in the series to find out more. I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered they had a series of their own!
"Broken Rules" is a story about two people who have let rules guide their entire lives, until the night they met each other. Aurora was the perfect child for her parents. Unlike her unruly younger sister, she has followed all of the rules they have set forth for her since birth. However, when her friend Tallulah mysteriously returns home from university she is more than ready to break some of those rules. Aurora was going to live her life not the life her parents laid out for her, and Landon was just the man who was going to help her.
Landon lived by rules. In short, he was man whore who had rules to ensure that him and the ladies her was with were protected from wanting anymore from each other than a good night in the sack. Once Landon set eyes on Aurora, all of his rules suddenly were forgotten. Landon has never wanted to break a rule more in his life, than the rules he set about giving another woman his heart.
Bradley gives us exactly as the title states. A story about two rule breakers that have finally decided to start living for themselves instead of hiding in the shadows of others. This is a short quick read that I would recommend to anyone who has read "Damaged Intimacy" or just wish for a good minimal angst love story. I can not wait to get my hands on the next installment.
*I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review *
This is my first book that I have read from Hanleigh Bradly and she is still new to me as an author but honestly, I am so gonna keep my eye on her. Hanleigh can pull me right in from the cover to the end of her book and her writing style is perfect and easy to understand and to read.
Broken Rules,
Is the perfect book to read if you what to know why and how rules can be broken. I love both of the main characters of this book, and the characters are Landon and Aurora. These are the two perfect characters that grew on me as a reader. It is good to see that Aurora can have someone that can be her best friend that can be there when she needs them to be but it is funny to see that she can give her best friend crap because she is should have stayed in school.
In everyday life, we all have that one best friend that we can turn to most times and we are able to be ourselves around them too. I know for me my best friend is my sister most people would say that my sister and I are twins and no we are not twins. My sister is that one person that I can turn too at any given time and be able to talk to her about life in general and she does not judge either.
I can not wait to see what Hanleigh has next up her sleeve.
** Review by Kylie from Bloggers From Down Under **
What if your whole life was following a set of rules that your parents had instilled in you from a young age? When Aurora's friend returns home, celebrations are in order. Surely at the age she is, Aurora can afford to break a few of her parents precious rules, as long as it's not the biggest one???
What if your whole adult life had been nothing but rules? Rules you yourself have put in place to maintain the life you've made for yourself? Landon, a successful business man is about to break his own rules about women.
After spending one intense night together, Landon and Aurora's lives are going to change. Here's to what I think is going to be an awesome series 🥂🥂
From breaking the rules to no more rules........
Brilliant, hot, steamy and thoroughly enjoyable read. Can't wait to get my hands on the next book in this series, Enforced Rules.
* Broken Rules was the first book Hanleigh Bradley ever wrote.
* It's a Contemporary British Romance! A one night stand with CEO bad boy and all round "manwhore" Landon Peters will change Aurora's life, if she'll take a risk and break some rules.
Aurora (Rory) comes from a wealthy family and has always followed every rule that her parents have set down as to how she should live her life unlike her sister. She wants to start experience life by her own rules and it will start tonight.
Landon has his own set of rules as well but when he meets Rory he starts breaking every rule from taking her to his home, to having her spend the night and most important more than night.
They are enjoying breaking all the rules along the way but what happens when family secrets reveal that their families are not as perfect as they pictured?
This quick story packs quite a punch and has a great combination of angst, humor and chemistry and I look forward to the second part of their story. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Broken Rules is the first Hanleigh's book that I read, but definitely not the last!❤ She got me hooked with Landon and Aurora's story, and I already see myself reading the next one.
Aurora is cutie, the perfect daughter that follows every rule her parents set, even the ridiculous ones. Landon is a hottie that avoids being in relationship, always in control, following his own rules. So, we have cutie, hottie, desire, sexual flame and rules, rules, rules..But, they are made to be broken, right? Landon will help Rory break her parents' rules one by one with such a pleasure, breaking his own ones in the very same process. Are they getting closer to each other with every rule they break?Absolutely!😍
I enjoyed the ride Hanleigh made for her main characters, spiced with family secrets, betrayals and dissapointment. So, I'm gonna continue enjoying and say: "Book 2, here I am!"😊
Aurora has reached a point in her life that being bright, beautiful, careful and basically perfect in all ways like; daughter for her parents, student for her tutors, friend to all is actually driving her mad and decides she is going to break some rules for a change............ This young girl needs to explore and have a more carefree life. Landon is clever, very successful and absolutely controlled that's how he lives his life. We get both perspectives of their thoughts and their conflicts brought on by their family expectations, rules and the responsibilities. You would think reading this they are the perfect couple but they have their own issues to address. Great read that you want to keep going.
This was a great series. It was light, quick, and kept me turning the pages. I recommend this series be purchases all at once if you are reading in paperback. This series fell in my lap at a perfect time. I was in the middle of a heavy novel and needed a break. This series was perfect, light fun break. I quite enjoy the story being based in London as I read the entire book in a British accent. (I don't live in EU so this was entertaining for me.)
Two very different people, raised in very different families, following very different rules, fall in love.
Volume 1- An introduction to the characters you will fall in love with. An intro to the rules they follow and why. The realization that these rules are soon to be broken and the emotional, and mental, consequences that will follow.

warning! u will want to have the next book soon! highly suggest u have book 2 ready! aurora has lived all her life by adhering to her parents rules. her friends call her "perfect", and she is. she doesn't drink to excess, she doesn't curse, she hasn't had sex out of wedlock (yup, she's got her v card intact) her bff comes home from university early, so cam, Lou, and Rory aka aurora decide to go out and celebrate. what happens when u decide to break the rules, the freedom, the excitement, the guilt....I am LOVING this story and yes!I turned right around n bought book 2! this was hanleighs debut novel?!!! wow!!!! she made my heart race n gave me tingles...READ this author if u haven't yet!
Aurora and Landon. This is about both of them and their need to obey the rules. In Landon's case he maintains control of his emotions and his world by obeying his rules. For Aurora she is the perfect daughter who has always followed every rule laid out for her. For Aurora it's time to break free. To explore and break out of the label and boredom of being the perfect daughter. For Landon it is something totally different.
A great story of cat and mouse. Sexy and fun, strong characters with Mr All Alpha Landon who finds himself. This is my first book by this author she writes a hot passionate story with a great plot. Can't wait to see where she takes the next story in the series.
Damn it! I really liked this book. I know you are thinking...why? Why is she saying damn it? Well because the main male character I both love and hate all at the same time. I never give away plot info in reviews...which is hard because I have so much to say. Damn it. Ok things I liked. It was written with English...English. Nothing wrong with American English, but I loved reading a book with a rich, thick English sound. The story flowed beautifully. The characters were very real, multi dimensional, likeable people. This book is part of a series. The author did a great job ensuring ill be back for the next instalment. Excellent book. Highly recommend.
Family. Family rules, family traditions, family secrets. This story is very relatable for anyone coming from a traditional or dysfunctional family. Aurora is on a quest to break all her parents’ rules, while Landon struggles to keep his rules after meeting her. Aurora and Landon will capture the heart of the reader with their fast paced and unexpected romance. With their families wrapped up in secrets, Aurora and Landon seek out each other for love, understanding and comfort. Hanleigh offers us a great romance that leaves us wanting more. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for Aurora and Landon and which rules are they going to break next.
An enjoyable well written feel good start of a series ending on a cliffhanger. The story is engrossing, swoon worthy, and includes humor, passion, chemistry and angst with likeable characters. Landon has rules he has set for no one to get attached until he meets Aurora. She is from a wealthy strict family and always follows the rules until Landon. Rule number one to start the spiral is never sleep with someone out of wedlock. They enjoy breaking rules until family secrets reveal, its not as perfect as pictured. A gripping enjoyable start.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is the story of two people who are both living their lives bound by rules. Aurora has been living by the unrelenting rules imposed by her parents, whilst Landon is living by his own self imposed rules. After a chance meeting, they both decide to use each other to start breaking some of these rules. This is the first story in a series, so we need to wait for the next book to discover how this pair will handle their new relationship, family secrets & broken rules. This is a well written, steamy & emotional story. However, the repetitive dialogue from each POV takes a little getting use to.
My very first book by the very talented author Hanleigh Bradley. I am so happy that I got the opportunity to read an amazing book by a new author. Hanleigh gives us a fast tantalizing read with exceptional characters. Rory & Landon are complete opposites but with one thing in common, keeping to their rules. But when they meet each other those sets of rules go flying out the window. Rory is the perfect girl in every way and Landon is Mr Alpha, the type of man that gets your blood pumping and your panties wet. The perfect story if you enjoy a good tease.
