Mission: Go undercover…without getting under the covers!
Rumor has it someone at the local honky-tonk is supplying meth to airmen, and K-9 handler Finn McAllister will find out exactly who's responsible and shut them down. But when the petite, blonde bar owner gets all up in his face—and kicks him out—Finn's blood burns…with raw desire.
Tucker Blackburn brings out the devil in Finn, and he can't resist going undercover as her new boyfriend. The sparks between them are part fury, part arousal and all heat. But Tucker's been hiding the truth about a key piece of evidence…and if Finn isn't careful, he might fall for his number one suspect!

So what do you do when you absolutely detest the "hero" in a romance, but the rest of it isn't all that bad? I'm afraid I had to give it one star, because I didn't like it, and that was all due to the absolute creep of a "hero" at the centre of the story! I hated him!
Finn McAllister and his drug-sniffing dog are working with the police to find a meth dealer. Their informant says they got the drugs from the Kentucky Rose bar, and the dealer was a woman. The owner of the bar is Tucker Blackburn, and she very vaguely meets the description of the meth dealer. But she's hot, so Finn lets his dick do the thinking. He's supposed to be pretending to be Tucker's boyfriend, working undercover to capture the meth dealer, but wants Tucker in his bed for real.
I hated Finn. I really, really, really hated him! Where do I even begin? Was it his rape culture attitude that Tucker should be used to male attention because she wore sexy clothing? Of course. Then there was the sequence where he punches a hole in the wall when he thinks Tucker really is a meth dealer. Tucker thinks to herself Finn would never hurt her, but for fuck's sake, what sort of reasonable, balanced person PUNCHES A FUCKING WALL? That's the action of somebody who can't control their temper of their violence. And look, this book has made me so mad it's making me swear!
I near about threw the book across the room when Finn accused Tucker of sleeping with him to throw him off track in suspecting her. Such bullshit! HE is the one with the professional responsibility not to sleep with her! What an UTTER ASSHOLE. Aaaarrggghh, just writing this review is making me so mad! He's the one who bullied his way into her life, bullied her into cooperating with an OFFICIAL investigation, insisted that she trust him, yet HE NEVER RETURNS THE FAVOUR!!! When he has her arrested, and she tells him she has evidence that could exonerate her, he just ignores this! HE'S A COMPLETE AND UTTER ASSHOLE! He doesn't trust her one iota!
When I use caps, you can tell I'm really pissed off and riled up!
He's not even the one who helps spring her from prison. It's a detective who apologises and frees her. Stupid dickhead Finn doesn't even seem to bother trying to contact her. Apparently he just sat around feeling sorry for himself that she betrayed him, and then feeling guilty (and sorry for himself) when he watched the footage and realised he should have trusted her. How about calling her you COMPLETE FUCKING DICKHEAD?!?
Good grief, he made my blood boil. I've come across some bad "heroes" before, but Finn McAllister certainly took the cake.
I've never hated a "hero" as much as I have Finn McAllister, which is why, in all honestly, I can't give this more than 1 star. Add to that the lack of hot sex (for a Blaze title), and the underuse of Duchess, the charming German Shepherd drug-sniffer dog, I would highly recommend you rescue yourself from the pain and frustration of reading this.
I'm struggling with a rating for Rescue Me. I biggest gripe is Tucker's hot and cold reversals towards Finn. One minute she slaps him for kissing her, the very next she's throwing herself at him. I just could not relate to Tucker at all. She's terrified of dogs, so of course Finn has a great big WMD. I have a hard time understanding how someone could be that scared of dogs, and then in the next chapter, be cuddling with Duchess and allowing her to put her head on Tucker's lap. I felt that Tucker was so inconsistent, and at times it drove me nuts.
Finn, on the other hand, was a steady, likeable character. His sister died after ODing on meth, so it's his life mission to crack down on drug dealers. A K9 handler for the military, he even has a devoted partner, Duchess, a gifted drug sniffing dog, to help him in his quest. When it's suspected that someone is dealing from Tucker's bar, Finn is on the case. He suspects Tucker, but can't help falling for her blunt, take no crap attitude.
While I had some problems with pacing and didn't always believe that Finn and Tucker could fall that quickly for each other, this was a quick, enjoyable read.
It's really 4 1/2 stars for me, it loses the half star for the hero being able to fall in love with the heroine and still believe her guilty of drug dealing. But, a great dog, understanding hero (except for the above mentioned),a strong funny heroine, AND a mystery/suspense plot make it my kind of story. It's my first read by this author; I doubt it's my last.
3.8 * A preview of this book was included in another book I read and it intrigued me. This wasn't the best book I ever read but it wasn't the worst either. I liked the characters and did feel they connected. There were some aspects that weren't really couple goals but I don't want to spoil the story by discussing those here. Overall, it was a quick, enjoyable read.
