“Sexy-hot romance meets mind-bending mystery, and all I can do is beg for more!” - USA Today Best Selling Author Samanthe Beck
The world is a scary place, even when you know who you are, where you come from and most importantly, who your enemies are.
So imagine how I felt when I woke up inside of Mayford Mental Institution, strapped to a bed in a dark, empty room with no recollection of how I got there. Try to picture having no family or friends to help you try to remember and adjust to a totally new life.
If only my problems stopped there. If only I didn’t have someone trying to torment me at every turn. If only my life didn’t become more and more complicated the more I started to remember.
It started out okay enough - my friend-turned-psychiatrist Mark found me a job and a place to live. My neighbor Keegan took me in under her wing and helped me adjust. Wyatt, a dark, brooding and dangerously sexy new tenant moved in the day after me, taking on the task of reminding me what blinding lust feels like.
What goes up, must come down, and as soon as life starts to feel like something I can handle, the gravity of my messed up life yanks me right back down on my ass. Kind of crazy how quickly you can go from being completely apathetic about your unknown future, to fearing that your future might not even exist at all….
Author, mother, wife, singer/songwriter, aspiring comedian - I wear many hats. Some of them fit, some of them look ridiculous, and all of them are fun. Life's too short to take anything too seriously, so I don't.
Sarcasm is my go-to, especially when it's most inappropriate. Need someone to make an uncomfortable situation even more awkward? I'm the girl for the job.
I'm ridiculously A.D.D. and I own it. I have a serious addiction to ecards and the majority of my Pinterest account is dedicated to them. The key to my heart is glitter and caffeine - my needs are basic.
I'm a bookaholic and I crush hard on my book boyfriends and their authors. Some might call me obsessive, but I disagree. That word really doesn't do justice to how crazy I get when it comes to something I'm passionate about. I'm not afraid to go fangirl on you, so don't test me.
Anything else you want to know, feel free to ask. I'm an open book, and I love to hear from readers
I keep reading and rereading this book. I can't stop. For some crazy reason, with each reread, I find new things. More Wyatt. More memories. More crazy. I love it. And without giving away the story or telling you too much, I will leave it at this: Farewell Apathy is one of those books that will fuck with you. Matters of the mind are always sketchy, and Jenn doesn't hold back.
This is the first book I've read by this author, but it isn't my last. Jenn Hype has a new loyal fan.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. The opinions expressed are my own.
I sobbed, I pulled at my hair, I shouted, I laughed and sobbed again.. In all my years of reading, a book has never... and I mean never, affected me so much! I love the fact that Jenn Hype is an extremely versatile writer and can literally write anything, this book is such a contrast to her others. The twists and turns are exceptional, leaving me wanting more after every page. I read the whole of this book in a mere few hours. I don't want to give anything away so I'm struggling with my words. I can't even pick up another book at the moment as I've got a serious book hangover. I am currently waiting VERY impatiently for the next one! This is by far the best I've read, it's completely deserving of 5 stars! I WILL be recommending this book to EVERYONE.
This book is amazing, that simple, if your looking for darkish, sexy, mysterious, fun, and heart wrenching then this is the book for you, I had the pleasure to see this story progress from great to amazing. It was always an great story but the outcome that all the readers get is amazing!
So make sure to check it out, add it to your TBR and on release day get this book and enjoy devouring every page!
This book is a definite must read! I'm pretty sure I was cursing and threatening the author more then a few times while reading it, both literally and figuratively. The story leaves you guessing at every turn about what's really going on and who the good and bad guys are. I loved Wyatt so much but felt such heart ache for some other characters that I can't mention! you'll understand when you read it yourself! Brailey was a great main character. She wasn't whiny and didn't complain about what happened to her. She took it in strides and pulled herself together and it's great to see a main character be strong like that for once! We need more of them! Wyatt oh Wyatt what can I say about him... well he's sexy of course! He's also thoughtful and amazing and slightly stalkerish and amazing and her Knight in shining armor, ooh and did I mention AMAZING! their relationship is so believable that it has me wishing he was actually real so I could go hunt him down! where are you hiding him Jenn! I will find him! This book will keep you guessing until the end and then wanting even more once you finish! Which I can't wait for! When's the next one coming out? Soon right? It better be soon Jenn or I will hunt you down! Ok now quit reading my review and go read her book! What exactly are you waiting for people!
Brailey awakens and her head is pounding, vision unclear, mouth feels like she’s swallowed cotton balls. As she tries to move she realises that she is strapped to a bed. She hears someone speaking. Who is he? Where is she? Why can’t she remember a thing?? Mark releases her and explains she’s in Mayford psychiatric hospital after being involved in an accident. All alone after losing her brother after he had surgery following a transplant and parent’s, the hospital help Brailey get onto her feet with a flat and money that was in her brothers insurance policy. When she arrives at the flat she meets Keegan her next door neighbour and new best friend. Keegan is bright and bubbly, a breath of fresh air. Keegan made me laugh throughout the story with the things she says and does...would love her as a friend lol. The girl’s get a new neighbour, a handsome hunk called Wyatt. He becomes close to Brailey but his intentions aren’t all they seem. As events unfold he us always there, is he a threat or purely a knight in shining armour? Throughout the story chapters are split by Braileys and Wyatt’s perspective which fellow readers may enjoy. Brailey doesn’t take her sleeping tablets and her memories return in the form of dreams. Secret after secret become unravelled which bring to light a whole manor of twists and turns that would keep any thriller fan in suspense! This story is the first book that I have read by Jenn Hype and it definitely will not be the last. Really hope there is a follow up to this story as would love to find out how the character’s later evolve. An enjoyable read!
Anger, fear and confusion team up with each other and throw a tantrum.
She practically skips in his direction, looking at him like he's been dipped in chocolate and she's got a craving for something sweet.
I swear, it's always the damn quiet ones that are truly batshit. They bottle up all their crazy so much that they just fly right past that grey area and straight into crazy town at the drop of a hat.
My Review:
I am struggling to come to grips with how I feel about this book and how to rate it. I enjoyed the snarky humor, banter, and unpredictable and intriguing storyline. However, I struggled to like the characters; Brailey was an awkward and contrary mess of contradiction and confusion. She was also annoying and tended to exasperate me. Wyatt was sexy yet moody and his indecisive back and forth tendencies were dizzying. Yet - the fact that I continued to care about them and remained interested in the story tells me something. But - the frequent conflict, crankiness, irritability, arguing, push/pull melodrama - but maybe that is just me... I tend to find that tiresome although I know others enjoy being teased and the tension of near constant angst. The suspense was well-paced with considerable twists and turns to keep plucking at my curiosity - I couldn't decide which characters were trustworthy, as everyone seemed to be playing a role... I developed and discarded numerous theories. In sum, it did not fully register on my meter as being Great or "I really liked it," but it was considerably better than just Good or "Okay."
I absolutely LOVE this author's books, so, of course I'm excited anytime she releases a new one! Honestly, NOTHING could have prepared me for this level of AWESOME! Brailey wakes up as a patient in Mayford Mental Institution with no memories of her life, nor how she came to be there. She's alone in the world with no family left to help her remember, so she's basically starting life all over again. Mark, her friend turned psychiatrist, set her up in an apartment, and when she gets there, her new neighbor, Keegan, basically adopts her. Then, a super sexy, mysterious new tenant named Wyatt, moves in the next day. But as she adjusts to her new life, dark memories are coming back, and she has no idea if they are real or not. On top of that, someone is out to torment her so she isn't sure who to trust. Will Brailey get all of her memories back to figure out who's after her before it's too late?!
O.M.G I don't have elegant words to describe this EPIC story that I just experienced! I have so many dramatic girly girl emotions going right now, that I don't which one will end up on top. The character development is fantastic, with a very entertaining cast of secondaries. A heart pounding, intense, and very well written storyline flows perfectly. Jenn Hype is simply diabolically brilliant with her twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end. Her OMG moments never stopped, and I yelled, "Are you serious?" (with a f-bomb or two) throughout the whole story. She's made the list of authors trying to KILL ME from the very beginning, moving her higher and higher up the list with every page turned. AND that ending, OMG that ending had me calling her some very bad names, and I'm hoping against all hope, that there's another book coming ASAP. I'm going to end the chaos of my mind review after finishing Farewell Apathy with HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDING everyone read this story!
Farewell Apathy by Jenn Hype is a nicely constructed, if rather standard, example of romantic suspense with some interesting plot twists throughout! Ms. Hype includes all the requisite characters: the funny friend; the sexy, yet mysterious male and that other sexy guy! (Because, let's face it, it's no fun unless there are two!) Her heroine has a snappy attitude which shines through in her sarcastic dialogue. I think readers of this genre will find her manner humorous, but not to the point where it becomes unrealistic or distracting. Her best friend is a perfect compliment to her as only our truest best friends can be and the men in her life are sexy and desirable! The first few pages drew me right in because I couldn't quite tell what was happening and I think the author realistically captured what an individual in Brailey's (the book's protagonist) situation would have undoubtedly felt. No one wants to imagine waking up with no clue who they are; lacking all the memories by which we dine ourselves, but most would agree that fear, self-doubt and that nagging, "off-kilter" vibe would play into it. Ms. Hype keeps that feeling alive and authentic for her readers throughout the book and I never felt like the conclusion was foregone. Her characters are believable, nicely written and well-developed. An added plus was that I had no problem reading it cover to cover in a few hours, so it's a great one to get you through that summer road trip to the beach!! Farewell Apathy is my first book by this author and I can say that, while this isn't usually my go-to genre, I think I'll look for her again! I enjoyed Farewell Apathy quite a lot and I'd happily recommend it to my girlfriends who complain that all I read is boring, non-fiction! I know they'll be pleasantly surprised!!
There are a lot of words I can use in describing Jenn Hype's newest Masterpiece: Sarcastic of course, because although she tried her hardest to keep it out, it still comes through and aren't we glad that it does? Because, what is a Hype book without that piece of herself? Twisting, because at times you aren't going to know which way is up or down...in or out....and that can be dangerous when dealing with Mayford. Emotional, because yeah it's gonna take you there. It's a definite departure from her Rom-Com Pretending Series. Don't get me wrong, her sense of humor still shines through but she's taken things a little darker with this one...so keep some tissues handy. Did I say Genius yet? No, Well I should have! Because it is. I Dare anyone to read the last scene and try to tell me it isn't absolutely F*@king Genius! Now, I have saved perhaps the best for last for all the ladies out there....it concerns wHyatt! And no, that is not a typo....I know his name is Wyatt...believe me I know, because I want to know this man in the biblical sense....and you will too...that's why I waited until the end to tell you about hot steamy wHyatt sex: Translation: wHyatt is code for hot steamy Wyatt Sex because Why the He*l not? And, that's why I waited until the end to give you a heads up....I knew you would get distracted.....See you aren't even listening to me anymore...and I haven't even told you about his big.....oops...you'll have to read about that and find out for yourselves.
This was the first time reading anything by Jenn Hype and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed this amazing story. Jenn Hype has given us a story that will grab you from the start and hold you in it's pages until the end ,but then it will leave us wanting more from this author. Jenn Hype is one extremely versatile writer and she can literally write anything ,because the story shows her ability for writing. The twists and turns were excellent ,and left me sitting on the edge of my chair waiting to see what's going to happen next ,and who was the bad guy and who's the good guy was. I liked Wyatt alot but felt some heartache for some other characters ,that I won't mention. Brailey was an amazing character ,she wasn't whiny and no complaining about anything that happened to her .She took everything in strides and she totally pulled herself together ,and it just show how strong her character was. But then there Wyatt who's sexy handsome and just all round amazing ,he thoughtful, and just a little like a stalker and he's Brailey's knight in shining armor, and he's quite amazing in every way. When it comes to their relationship it was so unbelievable and at one time I though this is what everyone wants in their life. I could tell you more about this great book ,but that would spoil it for you. I highly recommend that you read this amazing story ,you won't be disappointed.
I had the pleasure of reading this book as a beta. I was already familiar with Jenn's work, because I read the first two books in her Pretending Series and LOVED them. I love the humor and the sarcastic sense of humor (much like my own). So when I was given the chance to read this book, I jumped on the chance. Who wouldn't?
This book was different from her Pretending Series but just as good. I won't repeat what the book is about because you can read the blurb for yourself. But you have twists and turns that always keeps you on your feet. Jenn leads you down this trail with breadcrumbs, only to pull the carpet out from under your feet and she leaves you there wondering what the heck just happened.
There will be a second book BUT the first book is a standalone and ends leaving everyone happy just anxious for the next book to come out which will continue with the story line but with a new lead and romantic interest.
This book is about Brailey and who unknown past literally comes crashing into her present and future. I highly recommend this book to others.
The teasers intrigued me, but I had no idea. Poor Brailey wakes up with no memory, and throughout the story, the author throws you little clues that end up making you distrust everyone she meets. Even when you think you've figured it out, you haven't. Right up until the last second, you're left with your jaw on the floor. The romance Brailey unexpectedly encounters is filled with tension, unease, yet completely endearing. When you're finished, you can only hope that the author will continue with the story just from the bombs she drops on the last few pages. Suspensful, steamy, and surprising!
I am beside myself. I read an advance copy of Farewell Apathy... I really am having a hard time putting my feelings into words. Jenn Hype really poured a whole lot of emotion into this book. I literally sat on the edge of my seat during some of the parts. It's a whole different side of Jenn from her Pretending series. It's more serious, but still so amazing. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this book, and I will be buying it in paperback once it's released.
I really didn't know what to expect from this book...what I got was a really good, solid, well written tale of suspense, intrigue and love. I love trying to guess what's going to happen next, but Farewell Apathy beat me and I just went along with it in the long run. And, oh my god, it was one of those books I couldn't put down and was gutted when I got to the end. I'm not a fan of spoilers, so I can't say too much. But if you're like me and you love a good thriller then you really do want to read this book. I can actually see myself reading this again, so high praise indeed!
Farewell Apathy is the first book in a new suspense, mystery, and romance series by Jenn Hype. It is about Brailey, who suddenly wakes up with no memory of her life and strapped to a bed in a dark, empty room. Brailey soon finds out that she is in the Mayford Mental Institution, but she has no idea how she got there. With the help of her friend/psychiatrist Mark, she gets an apartment and a job in readiness for getting her life and hopefully her memory back. She meets Keegan, who takes Brailey under her wing and then enter Wyatt, the sexy neighbour who moves into the apartment block the day after Brailey does. With the help of her new friends, Brailey begins to build a new life for herself and hopefully a great future – but soon the gravity of her messed up life drags her back down and she quickly finds that her future, that she was so apathetic about, might not even exist at all.
This is the first book that I have read by Jenn Hype and what an introduction it has been! I was totally hooked from the very beginning – I kept trying to guess what was going to happen and even when I was nearing the end I still had no idea! There were so many fabulous twists and turns throughout this book that I couldn’t read it fast enough. Every single page left me wanting more. Even now I want to go back and read it again.
The characters were brilliant, with everything she went through Brailey was exceptionally strong but wasn’t afraid to show her vulnerable side. Keegan’s a feisty character but was an amazing support to Brailey considering they had only just met, and Wyatt, what can I say about him – I would quite happily live close to him. He was so protective of Brailey and a definite alpha male! He also sounded extremely yummy from the descriptions of him!!
I was blown away by the authors writing style. Being able to keep the plot a guessing game until the end is an amazing achievement. It was quite simple, a fantastic book and one of the best books that I have read this year. I am eagerly awaiting the next book – I cannot wait to see what happens next. It’s a definite 5 stars from me for Farewell Apathy by Jenn Hype.
Brailey wakes up strapped to a hospital bed in Mayford Mental Institute with no memory of how she got there or her life before that very moment. She wakes up to a man named Mark who tells her he is her doctor and starts to help Brailey learn about her life before. Weeks pass and it’s time for Brailey to start her life over. She can leave Mayford because she used to work there before her accident and they only had her there while she was recovering. Brailey goes to her new apartment and runs right into her new next door neighbor, Keegan, who decides the two women must be best friends immediately. After shopping and getting to know one another, the girls meet another new neighbor, Wyatt, who instantly takes Brailey’s breath away. She knows it’s a horrible time to develop feelings for someone, being that she has no memory of anything and can’t trust anyone, but she knows he’s going to be trouble for her. Wyatt is working undercover to keep an eye on Brailey and she has no idea what’s going on. Wyatt tries to keep his distance from her, he knows he has to keep it professional, but he quickly develops feelings for Brailey. Neither one thinks it’s a good idea to spend so much time together, but they can’t help the strong attraction they feel. Neither one can be honest either, so it’s a big mess of lies and secrets from the start. These two are so hopeless in the cutest way! You can’t help who you fall for though and it was fun to read their story. The fighting of their feelings that just turns into them fighting is an endearing quality about this couple who aren’t even a couple! I really liked how Jenn Hype wove a really sweet love story into a very intriguing mystery! It kept me guessing until the very end and I LOVE a writer who can pull that off! My only gripe would be the sudden ending. I did like how she tied up some ends while leaving it completely open to a second book though! I can’t wait to read that! I give “Farewell Apathy” five stars!
** Provided on behalf of the author for an honest review ** ** Review by Gayle at BFDU **
Imagine this for just a minute.
You awaken. Your head is pounding. Your vision blurred, unclear. Your mouth feels like it’s been filled with cotton balls it’s that dry. Your voice barely audible. You try to move but you can’t. Your trapped to a cold metal bed. Your arms and legs are strapped down. Moving hurts. And to make it worse. Someone is there, in the room with you. You have no idea who he is or where you are. Your mind a complete jumbled mess. You have no memory of how you ended up here. In fact you have no memory at all.
Scary yes?
Welcome to Braileys world…. Welcome to Keegans world…. Welcome to Wyatts world…. Welcome to Garretts world…. Welcome to Mayras world…. Welcome to Marks world….
Welcome people to Mayford Mental Institution.
I can’t believe what I've just read….Omfg….I've just been rendered speechless.
Wow, just wow about sums it all up. This novel had me from the prologue. It grabbed me from the very beginning and completely drew me in…..More like kept me prisoner until I finished it. It was everything and so much more. Raw, confronting, sinfully yummy, highly emotional….But what completely sucked me in….The mind games….Seriously twisted….It screwed with my head…Half the time my mouth was gaping I couldn't believe what I was reading…It took my breath away. Brilliant…..Farewell Apathy is just brilliance at its best.
I seriously can’t rate this novel high enough, 5 stars just doesn't seem to cut it….Yes guys it was that good.
But be warned….You will be left thinking….WTF….You’ll want more just like me.
I received an ARC for an honest review Review by The Club
Omfg that's all I can say. So first off, Brailey loses her memories after her house burns down and it's time she starts over. Everything is new and confusing to her with out her memories and trusting people turns out to be hard. But her neighbor, Keegan, seems to come at the perfect moment. Pushing her to find herself as they settle in her new place, they end up running into their sexy new neighbor. But there is more to him than meets the eye.
With conflicting emotions, her memories being gone and strange dreams, Brailey knows there is something she is missing in all of this. Who can she trust and who wants information only she has?
Brailey is smart and strong even through the memory loss and starting practically completely over in her life. She doesn't take crap, and she does well on keeping a level head through it all. She doesn't let Wyatt walk all over her even if he is sexy.
And Wyatt. He frustrates me and had me rooting for him throughout the book. I wanted him to push her while not being overbearing. I wanted him to confide in her about his secrets and I wanted him to quit being a jealous jerk and ask questions instead of making assumptions and getting pissed. But I loved his attentiveness and protective nature. His carefree attitude half the time and his strength and assurances the next was endearing.
The authors did an amazing job with this story giving it enough romance, laughter, and seriousness. All the secrets and twists in the plot were unexpected. Like, I seriously did not see some of it coming. And the villain in the story was great. You weren't sure about him and didn't suspect until it was almost too late.
4.5 stars Farewell Apathy by Jenn Hype is one of those books that you can’t stop reading. Brailey awakens one day and can't help the pain she feels. Her head is pounding, vision unclear, mouth feels as if she’s swallowed cotton balls. As she tries to move she realizes that she is strapped down to a bed. She hears someone speaking and can't help but wonder who it is. She asks herself where is she? Why can’t she remember anything? We meet Mark. He releases her and explains how she’s at the Mayford psychiatric hospital after being involved in an accident. All alone after losing her brother after his transplant surgery, the hospital helped Brailey get onto her feet with a flat and money that was in her brothers insurance policy. When she arrives at the flat she meets Keegan her next door neighbor and new best friend. Keegan is bright and bubbly, a breath of fresh air. Keegan made me giggle throughout the story with the things she says and does. I wouldn't mind having her as a friend lol. The girl’s get a new neighbor, a handsome man named Wyatt. He becomes close to Brailey but his intentions aren’t all they seem. As events unfold he is always there. We can’t help but think is he a threat or a good guy. This story is told from both point of views so we get to see inside their emotions and thoughts. I really liked that because we can feel and see what they are going through .
This story is the first book that I have read by Jenn Hype and it definitely will not be the last. Im hoping there is a follow up to this story as I would love to find out how the character’s later evolve. Definitely an enjoyable read.
This 5 star novel by Jenn Hype is a story that will have you turning pages until the very last page and leave you wanting even more. Farewell Apathy is a book that is suspenseful, sexy, and absolutely breathtaking. The book is mainly told through the point of view through the main character, Brailey. Brailey was in an accident that left her with amnesia. She wakes up in a mental institution with no idea of who she is or how she got there. Jenn Hype uses memories to fill us in on Brailey’s past as Brailey begins to remember. The story also spends quite a bit of time focusing on Brailey’s relationship development with Wyatt. Wyatt starts off as the sexy man moving into Brailey’s building, but turns into more. Wyatt, however, has a secret. A secret that he would love to keep from Brailey as long as possible, but as her memories return, he wonders just how long he will be able to keep his secret. Then there is Mark. Mark was with Brailey when she awoke in the mental institution. He is a psychiatrist and always seemed to have Brialey’s best interests at heart. He found her a job and an apartment and wanted to keep in touch with Brailey when she was released from the mental institution to try to find some semblance of normal. Mark has a secret even bigger than Wyatt’s. As we are told the story of Brailey’s past and her present, Jenn Hype makes us feel fear, anger, love, and loss as if we are Brailey. She manages to put us in the story and keeps us wanting more and more while never giving away the next twist or turn.
Rebecca's 4 Star Review Forbidden This was my first book by this author. I really liked the characters in this story. Wyatt is super hot, playful, protective, and cocky. I enjoyed He and Brailey and their Forbidden Attraction is hot and hilarious. There is plenty of mystery with twists and turns. The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that I would have liked to know more about the central idea behind the plot. It left me with questions. But you never know there may be a book two that will explain what was left untold since there is a bit of a cliff hanger. Over all great story it held my attention from page one.
I do not even know where to start with this book! It gripped me from the first page. It was like a mystery that needed solving. It felt as though you could not trust anyone that Brailey came into contact with. I read this book so quickly because I was hooked. I needed to know everything.
Brailey, had just woken up in Mayford Mental Institution strapped to a bed, with no memory of anything. When you have no memories, you cling to any information other people can provide you with. Mark, who was Brailey’s doctor, colleague, lover and a friend all mixed into one, provides Brailey with some of her memories. However, something felt off about the information that she was given.
Brailey, had just moved into a new house after being released from Mayford. Shortly after moving in, she gets a new neighbour, Wyatt. She was intrigued by him. Wyatt, was being very hot and cold towards Brailey. I was always suspicious of Wyatt, but I was always secretly hoping that they would get together. They had a growing relationship and Wyatt became very protective of Brailey. Which meant that even though they were not together, at times, he appeared to be very jealous.
‘Jealousy can make people do some crazy things’
I loved this book. Every single minute of it. The ending was amazing and even though I tried to guess what would happen, I did not get it right. It was my first book written by Jenn and I am looking forward to reading her other work.
A suspense romance that's a real page turner from beginning to end, keeping you engaged and your mind working in overdrive whilst you try to negotiate your way through the twist and turns and who did what nows. You definitely shouldn't trust anyone !
Brailey suffered a major head trauma and when she wakes she's strapped to a table at her place of work. She has no recollection of her former life and the only clue apparently to her past is Mark ! She somewhat naively without question goes along with what he is telling her and is finally released to start a new life.
As the Strong willed, Brave, Brailey steps forth into the unknown she meets Keegan her new neighbour and they instantly become friends. Keegan becomes that friend we all want the protector, the pitbull, the loveable always there for you no matter what life coach cheerleader. I loved that about her.
Then we meet Wyatt I warmed to wyatt immediately and although there was something a little off with him it was never bad, I always trusted him. His and Braileys chemistry was great and their will they won't they, but when they finally got into their stride it was brilliant.
The story line is fabulous, it left me wanting more, Jenn's writing style is great, definitely an author I'll read again and this is s book to read if you like this genre.
What do you do when you realize you can’t trust your own memories?
Brailey wakes up terrified, strapped to a table, with no memory of how she got there… or who she is. The only person she can turn to is Mark, her psychiatrist and former co-worker at Mayford Mental Institution. Armed with just the clothes on her back and a cell phone, Brailey attempts to start her life anew. But how can Brailey move on when her nightmares may be a disturbing reality? Who can she trust when she can’t even trust herself? Keegan -- her vivacious neighbor that took Brailey under her wing. Wyatt – the incredibly attractive guy who just moved in. Or Mark – the only person who knew her before the accident. Someone doesn’t want Brailey to remember her past, but how far will they go?
This story switched point of views so the reader gets a chance to know what different characters are thinking. The author developed the characters well and the sexual tension between Brailey and Wyatt is off the charts. Is it wrong that I want Wyatt for myself? I enjoyed the twists in the story. Hype had me questioning everyone that came into Brailey’s life. Are they true friends in the life she’s building for herself or does everyone have their own agenda?
This is a standalone novel without a cliffhanger ending, but I feel this isn’t the last we’ll see of Brailey’s world.
Farewell Apathy is the first book I have read from Author J Hype and on the basis of this story I will going back to read more! It is the story of Brailey and Wyatt and Braileys rediscovery of life following losing everything, including her memory in a tragic house fire. A new life with bright and bubbly Keegan as her neighbour and self appointed BFF sets her on the road back to happiness. Soon the hand fan worthy Wyatt moves into the building and there is an instant connection between them both, but Wyatt’s intentions as her new neighbour are not all as they seem…… When Brailey stops taking her sleeping tablets prescribed by her ex-boyfriend and Dr, the overbearing Mark, memories start returning and the two worlds of past and present collide spectacularly. Can Wyatt just be her ridiculously hot neighbour? Why do strange and unexpected things keeping happening to haunt Brailey? Secret after secret becomes unravelled in a plot that is unputdownable and fast paced with just the right amount of swoonery added to the mix. If you are a fan of Sassy, Swoony and Suspense then this is a book that you will love, there is a clear set up for future books in the series which i can’t wait to read!
I'm a sucker for a suspense-filled mystery. I just love them. Give me one that I don't have completely figured out by 4 chapters in and I am hooked. I started Farewell Apathy as part of a read-along/book discussion and tried really hard to only do assigned chapters but failed. I cheated and read through to the end.
Farewell Apathy opens with our heroine, Brailey strapped to a hospital bed with no memories and being loomed over by a man she doesn't know. Great start and just gets more and more intriguing from there. The list of good guys/bad guys includes Mark, her doctor (and more?) her crazy new friend Keegan, her sexy yet mysterious neighbor Wyatt, the man from her dreams (memories?) Bryce and whoever it is lurking in the shadows.
This story has plenty of twists and turns as Brailey begins to regain her memories through little snippets while fighting through little accidents and incidences that start to plague her. The ending is great with everything coming to a head in a believable, "why-didnt-I-think-of-that" way. There is no "left field" ah has! to disappoint but the resolution will have you saying holy sh*t!!!
Ms. Hype also left a thread or two unraveled for an upcoming continuation of these characters.
Brailey wakes up strapped down to a bed in a psychiatric hospital. She was in an accident and lost her brother, the only family she had left. The Hospital helps get her on her feet with an apartment and the money from her brothers insurance. Her new journey she has embarked on has showed her she is intelligent, brave, and passionate. It has showed her she isn't a damsel in distress that she is strong. She doesn't know if she will ever get her memory back but she is determined to try and move forward. Keegan is her next door neighbor. She teaches Brailey about friendship and loyalty. In walks their new neighbor Wyatt who teaches her about loyalty and passion. They both seem to know what she needs even before she does. Can Brailey actually trust them or do they have secrets that affect her? Brailey is such a strong woman, she doesn't just hide from the world she embraces her new life. She has showed that she can accomplish and try and overcome everything. This book isn't just about a woman who has memory loss and he trying to always remember her past life. It's about a woman who gets to experience New experiences. New friendships, a new life, new passions, and a new love. She gets to learn something new about herself everyday.
Farewell Apathy by Jenn Hype was a good read for me. It was definitely different than my normal reads but it did not disappoint. I was an emotional wreck(I'll blame pregnancy hormones lol) through some of this but in wouldn't change it! I'm usually a hearts and flowers with maybe a stalker thrown in for good measure kind of romance reader. This wasn't that at all!! I was taken on a journey and the twists and turns have you flipping pages hoping you find out what's going on. Brailey the main character was so amazing. She wasn't the helpless damsel in distress. She was strong and rolled with the punches. Waking up in mental hospital has Brailey questioning everyone and everything. Who can she trust? Who can give her answers? When things start happening who is to blame? Is her new neighbor who is always there her knight in shining armor or is that just a cover? In really couldn't put this book down. So much happened I can't even put into words without telling the story through. This is a "no adulting " book as you'll not be able to put it down until you find out everything! This was my first read from this author bit it won't be my last. Looking forward to more!
Another new author for me and one that I will be reading more from. This book was just so addictive, I couldn't put it down. I was so gripped by the story that I forgot to reapply sunscreen and now am I paying for that!
I loved all the characters in this book, especially Wyatt, he was so conflicted about his job and about being truthful with Brailey, it was really nice seeing snippets of his thoughts and emotions. As for Brailey, I did like her character, although sometimes I got really frustrated with her and wanted to scream and shout at her for being so infuriating, but given her circumstances, I kind of got why she had so many issues, especially regarding lies and trust. Another favourite character in this book was Keegan, I so hope this author plans to write a story for Keegan and of course Bryce.
This book will keep you guessing with the twists and turns; some more obvious than others. I loved how the story played out and although it didn't end on a cliff hanger, the ending leaves plenty of scope for more from this story, I for one would love more from these characters.
