I used to deliver pizza. I was pretty good at it, too. I mean, it's not that hard, but if I'm not going to brag, who is, right? Anyways, so I'm delivering pizza while I'm in college, and my boss has been in the pizza industry like six years. He's supposed to graduate from college this year, and I ask him, what are you going to do after college? We're all supposed to go out and conquer the world right after college, so this guy has to have some kind of plan.
He looked at me like I was delusional.
"I'm a writer, man."
Those four words changed my life more so than anything else ever spoken to me. I'd always written, since I was twelve participating in online-wrestling forums in which you acted out your character. I wrote because it came naturally. Never once, in the entirety of my nineteen years did I think that writing could be a career though, until a Pizza Sage said those four words to me.
So what did I do? I went home and wrote a short story and immediately understood that I was the greatest writer to ever touch a keyboard. I brought it to the Pizza Sage and he told me what anyone could have told me--it was horrible. I might be dumb, probably am, but I'm also tenacious.
I spent the next seven years writing almost every day. My first novel grew to the length of 40,000 words, then I threw it away. My second novel grew to 140,000 words. I didn't throw it away, but it was rejected about 50 times by agents. My next novel ended up at around 55,000 words, which I showed to a few friends and shelved. Then I wrote Dead Religion, which is the only reason I have an author page at Amazon.
I have had four short stories published, paid and unpaid. 'Effects May Vary' won an award that was voted on by readers, which was pretty cool.
I'm currently getting my Masters in Business at the University of Georgia's Terry School of Business. I'm doing this in order to not deliver pizzas but still keep the lights on. I have a girlfriend who will soon be my fiancé, and after ten years, I imagine she's ready for that title.
This is the first series of this length that I've read. (I'm NOT a fan of series books, usually.) This story, by this particular author, has been an exception. Although six books long, it never drags through endless, useless description of "location/place", which is my particular pet peeve. Book number five (this one) has a fault that bothered me through-out the pages. It should have been caught during editing, but was not. Regardless, I highly recommend this book to those who appreciate science fiction with extensive planning in it's movement and great depth of character in all of its players.
"End Times were called End Times for a reason - because no one could stop them",
This review is from: Nemesis: Book Five (Kindle Edition)
As this remarkable series nears it's conclusion, the power and intensity of the writing and the story gear up yet another notch. This is not a book to be missed but it is definitely not the book to start with. The deceptive calm of Book I introduces us to the players who dominate this section of the story, and, as the series progresses, we get to know each one as an individual, with all their hopes and fears and loves and longings. We look through their eyes at the coming battle in which all find themselves consumed. And for whom do we cheer? Those fighting to save their world from invaders? Or the mother who only wants to save her husband and her children but, in so doing, would destroy everything familiar to the human race? As David Beers notes in his remarkable Afterward, "A lot of readers ... tell me they don't know who to root for", and I, for one, also fall into this category. This must be one of the most powerful science fiction tales that I have read, and I've read many over the past half a century. If you have read the earlier books in this series, I don't need to tell you to buy this as you will already be intrigued about the outcome. If you haven't yet started this dazzling series, and enjoy ideas and the bizarre, you have a treat in store. Go get book I now. It is far more than just the usual confrontation of first contact, no space ship battle against all odds. This is a true and heart rending fight for loves and survival seen from all sides. Who will you root for to win?
Another Awesome Book In a series you get swallowed up in. In the fifth book of this series, the world is ablaze, with both heroes and villains fighting violently to hold onto what they love most, but who will win? Unfortunately we have one more book before we find out, but what a ride as we travel to get there. Morena’s goal is nearly attained (the USA's east coast has been destroyed as the government hides safely underground), meanwhile Kenneth Marks plots a grab for power.
While some might find Five Books leading up to the (future and final upcoming) Sixth Book's climatic end tiring, I almost feel its not enough. The way David Beers weaves his storyline, his detailed and well developed characters through the world he created, you feel reluctant to leave it (by putting the book down). Like potato chips, one reading isn't enough. I've read each book in this series a minimum of three times each, some of them even more than that.
It sure would be nice to watch Nemesis on a bigger screen instead of the small one in my head, someone please make this a movie (or better yet, a TV Series). I eagerly await the day some producer discovers it and makes my dream a reality. No noticeable typos, errors in sentence structure. Highly Recommended.
NOTE: Reading this book as a stand-alone is not recommended, for increased clarity and enjoyment, I recommend you read all previous books in this series before starting this one.

This is the 5th book in a series ( I was given the book free by the author to read and review) I am enjoying the story line immensely. Each book picks up exactly where the last one left off. In this one Morena's offspring begin to take over. But are humans any different than the aliens when we go to a new place. We take over and make it our own whether taking the land from animals or other humans. This is akin to the old Saturday sci fi serials where it continued each week. I am looking forward to book 6 . I recommend that you get books 1-5 and just treat the set as a novel.
Five stars is never enough for David Beers' Nemesis series! I thought when the aliens arrived it would be another outer space story. As the story unfolded and Morena, the Mother of all aliens arrived I was intrigued by her powers. Now that she has overtaken Earth.... Hell has arrived in her son, Junior! A must read, page-turner!
In this fifth book of this series Morena still struggles to keep her offspring alive and fights for survival of her civilisation. While doing that she converts the earth so it will be more like the world she fleed, so long ago. Humankind fights back for their survival, but they are no match for Junior. I wonder how this will end in book 6. Maybe her mother is able to make a difference?
