Continuing from where it left in part 1, this book explores further themes in Indian history covering the time periods of what could be called the middle ages - from 10th to 17th century. Just as the predecessor, instead of providing of chronicles of the times, this part too explores different themes that influence the zeitgeist.
Following are the themes that it covers :

5. Through the eyes of the Travelers - perception of the society (Looking at Indian life from the perspectives of Al-Biruni, Ibn Battuta and Francois Bernier)
6. Bhakti and Sufi Traditions - Changes in Religious beliefs and Devotional texts (The revival of hindu religious practices, and the reform of islamic dogmas)
7. An Imperial capital - Vijayanagara (India was not all about what happened in the north. The south dominated too)
8. Peasants, Zamindars and the State - Agrarian society and the Mughal Empire (How society changed over different rules)
9. Kings and Chronicles - The Mughal courts (History and historians during the Mughal period)

NCERT books provide probably the best possible resources to learn history for Indian students. That’s why the UPSC aspirants still follow it. This book assumes a certain basic knowledge of history that had been taught in the previous classes. Sadly, my knowledge of the Moghul era is not good enough for me to appreciate all the nuances of that time.

As the creators of the book wrote in the preface -

In Classes VI to VIII we looked at Indian history from early beginnings to modern times, with a focus on one chronological period in each year. Then in the books for Classes IX and X, the frame of reference changed. We looked at a shorter period of time, focusing specifically on a close study of the contemporary world. We moved beyond territorial boundaries, beyond the limits of nation states, to see how different people in different places have played their part in the making of the modern world. The history of India became connected to a wider inter-linked history. Subsequently in Class XI we studied Themes in World History, expanding our chronological focus, looking at the vast span of years from the beginning of human life to the present, but selecting only a set of themes for serious exploration.

I can't wait to read the books preceding these. But first I need to complete part III.

The book briefs the reader about the various trajectories of history that are flowing in Medieval India. The text, in my opinion, is slightly skewed in favor of the Mughals, which is not to say that I disapprove of the apparent grandiose that they left behind in the form of buildings and monuments that they had built, or the administration that they had captained which we do know of from chronicles. I feel some key "Indian" rulers have missed out on their nominations to be included in this text. But one could defend against it clinging to the lack of satisfactory evidence, or the goal of the book - which is to highlight the "most important" aspects in Medieval India that the reader must know about.
Whatever may one's opinion be, the truth is that this book is still a good place to start with to know quite a bit about Medieval Indian History.

It's a about Medieval India since it's inception till 1857 but mainly focusing on Sufism and travellers & their works during the Mughal Empire. Reading about the Mughals you will get to know about Islamic traditions as well.

Besides, you can understand the land revenue system that was prevalent during Mughals. So theirs detailed description in the whole book, make sure you keep sipping coffee or you will doze off.

Vijayanagara is another empire explained separately (contemporarily known as Hampi, Karnataka).
