This series is unbelievable! David's story is relatable and David himself is such a perfect character to share his humanly imperfect life, but following God's perfect plan for us all. What a series to teach us how to listen AND follow God's will- whether it's what we want or not at the moment. I loved these books and will recommend them for many years to come, as well as, re-read them!
Wow...what else can I say? Moving story that as I read, I caught myself praying and maybe even changing a little. God is good and He will bring us where we need to be.
What a WONDERFUL series of books!!! I cannot even begin to say how much I enjoyed reading all 7 books of Chop Chop, the Series of a Lifetime! I laughed, and I cried out loud! Do NOT pass up this series but be prepared for a few surprises along the way!
Even though I had previously read and enjoyed at least one of the Chop Chop books, as soon as I received this series of seven books, I dove in and thoroughly enjoyed reading all of them. I did have a few questions after the first six books, which seemed to come to the end of the absorbing story about David and Laci. So when I read book seven, I didn't know quite what to expect. It turned out to be just as delightful as the previous six stories, and it answered my questions as to the few things that had occurred before that had not been thoroughly explained. The characters are fascinating, the story impelling--there are births, deaths, weddings, funerals--a really fascinating plot, and you've got a good read and what should be and probably is a best seller.
I couldn't put the series down. I laughed I cried and become closer to God . The characters were believable and I felt that I was part of the story. I am an avid reader but this book moved me like no other. It will always be my favorite .I just hope that my faith will become stronger like the characters portrayed in the book.
Loved all of these books - would highly recommend, characters took the narrow path always choosing what God wanted for their lives instead of what they wanted something we should all do even when it is so much more difficult.
I have thoroughly each of the Chop Chop series books. This one did not disappoint. I highly recommend you start with book one and read all the way through the series.
I have been quite blown away by the chop chop series. It has been a while since a series kept me reading well into the night, causing me to get upset when someone interrupts my reading time!!
Everything I generally DON'T like about a book was in here. First person narrative, from the male point of view, spanning decades, broken into half a dozen books ..... I LOVED IT!!!! I can't exactly say what it is that drew me into this series and held me there but I sure got stuck until I finished them all. Maybe it was the raw honesty. The vulnerability. The down to earth dialog. Perhaps it was the ups and downs, questions, thoughts, fears and faith of real life that was almost like reading my own mind at times. It could have been the depth of friendships that we all crave and wish we had. Or the possibility of having to walk the path that these people walked. Whatever it was, I was drawn in to the lives of these people. David became the voice in my head. Each story had its own heart wrenching moments, its hilarious, laugh out loud moments, its deep thought provoking, faith stretching moments, and its "I can't believe they said that" moments. But by far, book 6 did me in. I was a wreck. I almost choked to death (true story) - at one point the author had me sobbing (red eyes, runny nose, the works) and then, right in the middle of a big sob an honest to goodness Laugh Out Loud part suddenly jumped off the page and I couldn't handle the sob and the laugh at the same time (all in silence as it was 1 in the morning and I couldn't make a noise or I'd wake the hubby up). I about lost the ability to suck air into my lungs and choked on my own hysteria. Faith provoking and life challenging. Totally surprising, not at all what I expected but I'm very glad I took the chance and picked up this series.
I really enjoyed these books. I felt like I knew the characters and cared about them. The plots were engaging, although the first book seemed somewhat trivial at first, though part of that might have been that I took long breaks between reading it. I appreciated that they talk about Christian living in a realistic way, acknowledging that people often really don't want to be "witnessed to", that people raised in Christian homes don't always behave in Christian ways, that some desires are never fulfilled and some scars never heal (in this life). There is real suffering of many different kinds in these books, but a lot of humor, too, often surprisingly close together. They often made me cry, which I consider a sign of a good book (though not all good books do that). They were often very hard to put down.
It was a bit annoying that David, the narrator of the first 6 books, has a tendency to not listen properly and "go ballistic" before he "gets" something - but some people are like that. I appreciated the 7th book, from Tanner's perspective, which filled in a lot of the gaps.
I'm not sure that God really talks to people the way some of these people experience, but that was not an obstacle to enjoying the books.
While they are not exactly great literature (so little is) they provide the two things I look for in books: escape from my own life and worries but also insight to take back to my life.
Overall this was a good series, I'd recommend it if you're looking for an easy read. I found lots of reviews that said how well written it was, what I didn't find was anyone saying there was at least one scene in every book that was a tear-jerker. I'm not normally emotional about books, but these did affect me.
I did have some issues with the books, spoilers below:
This series chronicles the story of a man from childhood through death as he creates and loses friends, deals with tragedies, questions his faith, finds the love of his life, becomes a champion for those abused and more. Overall, I really liked it, though at times, the writing is stilted. The main character is very self absorbed through the majority of the story although he deeply cares for others. The faith story is essential to the story, but does not over power anything to the point that would/should turn away readers. Overall, an easy, likable read.
Facebook headline says "Real. Christian. Fiction" and that is exactly right. Starting with Laci, who grows her hair, then has it chopped off to give to others, to David, Tanner, Dorito and many others, this is true life for Christians. Not perfect, just saved and they endure highs and lows by depending and following the guidance of Lord Jesus.
This series is fantastic! I read a lot, and I just couldn't stop reading these books! Soooo well written, down to earth, very believable/real life, and when I wasn't reading I was wondering when I could get back to find out what happened next. Great character development, all in all a super enjoyable series!!
This was such an amazing story with humor, sadness, love, hope amd most importantly focused around God. I randomly pickednthis series not knowing it was a Christian read. Thank you God for givi g me such a wonderful story that truly touched my soul. You are always here!
I have this series 5 stars because of the writing style. The story moves along steadily and even though it is a little difficult to keep up with the ages of the characters and imagining what they look like, it is a beautiful story and has a number o things to teach about practicing Christianity and not just preaching it.
I have to count this series as one book because that is how it reads. I really liked this series I liked the way it was written. David is a great character and I kept liking him more and more with each book. I loved how fierce he loved and how protective he was of his family and friends. I loved that he always stayed true to himself and his faith.
I laughed,I cried. It was great to read a Christian book that was not just a "make you feel good" book . It delt with real life and real struggles. Life does not always work out the way we think it should. It does work out like God plans if we are faithful and seek his will. Real people struggle with that, so did the characters in the book. God prevails.
A Christian novel that goes back to Tanner and his best friends from early childhood until they were facing their golden years. He and his best friend David were both in love with Stacy. One will marry her and the other will not marry but will still love Laci. I am not going to tell you the punch line you will have to read the book.
When I started reading the first book, I almost walked away. For me it was a slow start. I kept reading and suddenly it quickly changed to an intriguing story that I couldn't put down. I read through all 7 books in the series in about a 12 days. I am now looking at the companion books and plan to read each of them also.
I truly enjoyed all these stories and could not out it down easily. The storyline, the characters all came to life the more I read. They all had challenges and struggles and pain. Even those who chose to follow God's plan for their lives when it was not their plan. Thank you for these stories.
These stories show the heartbreaking relationship that God desires with us through heartbreaking situations in real life and how we live it triumphantly through our vital relationship with God. The author captures it and drives it home in a way that will encourage and change you.
This whole book series is truly amazing! I read it years ago and the story and characters have stuck with me to this day. I feel for each character in a different way and relate to the ups and downs of life that they go through. It makes me happy and emotional! Love this series and highly recommend :)
I really enjoyed getting to look into the life of somebody that's experiencing the life of an alzheimers patient. It was very interesting. And I enjoyed the story of the entire life of the characters.
