He is Brogan O'Bannon—wanderer, warrior, and embittered pawn in his family's conflicts. Pitted against his twin brother, with whom he shares an uncanny magical connection, and long exiled from his homeland, he has returned to Scotland to claim his birthright.

She is Matalia McTaver—proud, impetuous, and beautiful daughter of Ronin and Kalial. Refusing to bow to any will save her own, she seeks to find her own destiny...without submitting to a husband.

When Matalia seizes Brogan in her family's forest, she's elated by this chance to test her sensual wiles upon a stranger. What better way to learn the secrets of the marriage bed without actually having to marry! But she loses control of her "experiment" when Brogan escapes his bonds and introduces her to carnal pleasure beyond her wildest expectations... forcing her into a hasty marriage. Thus begins their tempestuous journey to Brogan's home, where danger and betrayal will threaten their lives... and love will challenge their hearts.

GREAT BOOK!! Do not let previous reviews disuade you! The cover is deceivingly cheesy romance like, BUT it was not! I thought it was going to be one even while reading the first chapters, but I laughed at the mess this girl got herself into! There is a build up!

***Matalia is part Druid, which is a sorcerer. She sings to calm animals etc. Once you catch that, it makes sense.

If you like the descriptive romance with tons of story, like Kinley MacGregor, aka Sherrilyn Kenyon, you will like this book. The format was strong like a Kinley MacGregor book, but the story was original! She was the closest I could think of as far as writing style. It was fast paced & great! I put off reading it, because of the few reviews, and low scores... Looking at what they usually read, I understand their distaste... I put it off, due to the reviews. I should have read it sooner!

I just finished this book, and found it to be an amazing romance.
It had some fictional elements and it also had great historical ties along with a blooming romance between the two well crafted characters, Matalia and Brogan.
Sasha Lord did a great job building up the romance between these two characters, and at the end of the story you almost wish that something like that could happen to you. :)

"In a Wild Wood" was waaayyy better than the previous book "Under a Wild Sky" (my review). It's a keeper for me.

At first, Matalia, the heroine, seems very immature. She is only 16, spoiled and not at all circumspect. Her "idea"? Tying the seasoned warrior she's found hurt in the woods to a bed to experiment on him what happens between a man and a woman when they are married. Stupid idea is stupid. It is doomed to go wrong. And it does. Instead of having her wicked way with her victim, Brogan, he turns the tables. They have sex and are discovered. Instant marriage is the logical consequence.

Brogan, the hero, isn't so fond of having to marry a wild, rebellious girl. Matalia's little experiment has ruined the great plan he has been working on resolutely for the last 15 years. For Brogan has to compete against his twin brother for his family's heritage.

In the first part of the book, Brogan is too furious, too hard, and too rough. He sometimes reminds me of an angry gorilla pounding on his chest in demonstration of his superior power. I was afraid he would be just like Ronin in the first part of this series. BUT, thankfully, beginning with the second part of this book, the gorilla transforms into a man with actual manners. Brogan becomes a likeable character. He openes up, talkes about his past, wants to get to know his wife better. He actually smiles and grins. He communicates with Matalia. I really, really liked him a lot.

Matalia grows up pretty fast. I loved her. She is such a darling. It was adorable to watch how she tries to support her husband. She brings warmth and benevolence to a land and its people that is soreley lacking in such things.

I loved the whole family conflict and the feud between the twin brothers.

"In a Wild Wood" is an enjoyable, entertaining and lovely read with likeable characters and an interesting plot. Definitely a book I will want to reread.

Matalia has vowed never to marry. Her parents has brought forth plenty of suitors for her but she
has declined the offer of marriage to all of them. Yet, she still wishes to experience pleasure
and believes she does not need a husband to do so. So when she stumbles upon a warrior very
conveniently roped to a tree, she realizes he is her chance.

Brogan is but a few days ride from his intended bride when he is set upon by men with swords who
tie him to a tree. When the beautiful woman appears seemingly from thin air, sword in hand and
wolves at her side, he is in awe. But instead of freeing him, she instead keeps him chained. Fully
intending to use his body for her own pleasure. He fights her for a bit however finally gives in.
Then they are discovered by her family and a hasty marriage is arranged.

As they travel to Brogan's family's estate, Matalia learns her husband is a cold and unfeeling
man. Born as a twin, his father had, since their birth, pitted he and his brother against one
another to win the title and the castle. So Brogan has returned with a wife and his riches, to
show his father that he is the rightful heir. Only to discover his brother had already arrived with
a pregnant wife on his arm.

As Matalia and Brogan learn married life and begin to understand and respect one another more and more, she fears that despite her love for him, Brogan is lost to the poison and evil surrounding
his family.

This book started off slow and unappealing for me - only picking up towards the very very end.
I will start with Matalia. I hated her at the beginning and I think that was a bit of the authors
intent. She was horrible. She rapes Brogan basically, then cries fowl when her family makes her
marry him. She is extremely childish (maybe because she is "barely legal"). However, I could see
her character change and grow as the novel goes on and in comparison to her sister in law, she
is kind, smart and respectful.

Brogan was a man who has been taught since birth to fight for what he wants. He went from loving
his brother to hating him all because of his fathers game of who will become heir. He wasn't
completely an asshole and unfeeling but he defiantly didn't trust anyone, his wife included.
And is took dire circumstances for him to realize that he loved his wife.

Most of this book is a 1 star as not much happens for a majority of it however the ending picked up
and brought it up to a 2 star. And since that is the last thing lingering in my mind, 2 star it is.

I began reading this book around December of last year. I made it about a third of the way through and gave up on it. I spent so much of my time in the first part of the book rolling my eyes, that I got tired of reading it. I ended up picking up this book and finishing it. The middle was not too incredibly horrible. There are good points to this story. It is just so over the top that it is annoying in parts. If you like that kind of thing... then this is the book for you. If you are a more run of the mill romance reader, I don't recommend it.

Second book of the wild series. I think I liked it better than the first one. Plenty of sensuality and the usual misunderstanding. Not as much fairee , more mental communication between twins. Features pet wolves for the animal lover. More heart touching for the wounded family. I am currently rereading this series for the last time before donating. While I still like romances this style isn't what I prefer to read.

This was honestly one of my favorite books. Lord makes a great story that keeps you guessing up until the very end and she uses her twists and turns to create a spell binding story. Her descriptions are absolutely vivid and create a believable world.
