Matalia has vowed never to marry. Her parents has brought forth plenty of suitors for her but she
has declined the offer of marriage to all of them. Yet, she still wishes to experience pleasure
and believes she does not need a husband to do so. So when she stumbles upon a warrior very
conveniently roped to a tree, she realizes he is her chance.
Brogan is but a few days ride from his intended bride when he is set upon by men with swords who
tie him to a tree. When the beautiful woman appears seemingly from thin air, sword in hand and
wolves at her side, he is in awe. But instead of freeing him, she instead keeps him chained. Fully
intending to use his body for her own pleasure. He fights her for a bit however finally gives in.
Then they are discovered by her family and a hasty marriage is arranged.
As they travel to Brogan's family's estate, Matalia learns her husband is a cold and unfeeling
man. Born as a twin, his father had, since their birth, pitted he and his brother against one
another to win the title and the castle. So Brogan has returned with a wife and his riches, to
show his father that he is the rightful heir. Only to discover his brother had already arrived with
a pregnant wife on his arm.
As Matalia and Brogan learn married life and begin to understand and respect one another more and more, she fears that despite her love for him, Brogan is lost to the poison and evil surrounding
his family.
This book started off slow and unappealing for me - only picking up towards the very very end.
I will start with Matalia. I hated her at the beginning and I think that was a bit of the authors
intent. She was horrible. She rapes Brogan basically, then cries fowl when her family makes her
marry him. She is extremely childish (maybe because she is "barely legal"). However, I could see
her character change and grow as the novel goes on and in comparison to her sister in law, she
is kind, smart and respectful.
Brogan was a man who has been taught since birth to fight for what he wants. He went from loving
his brother to hating him all because of his fathers game of who will become heir. He wasn't
completely an asshole and unfeeling but he defiantly didn't trust anyone, his wife included.
And is took dire circumstances for him to realize that he loved his wife.
Most of this book is a 1 star as not much happens for a majority of it however the ending picked up
and brought it up to a 2 star. And since that is the last thing lingering in my mind, 2 star it is.
