When British Special Forces veteran Gabriel Wolfe is involved in a collision with a delivery truck, he lands up in a military hospital, where he discovers that someone is fatally sabotaging top-secret RAF flights using a new performance-enhancing drug. Now, with two British women snatched by Chechen separatists, and the Farnborough Airshow fast approaching, Gabriel has to rescue the kidnap victims and prevent another pilot’s death.

Kasym brings the long-bladed knife up so Chloe can see the orange glow of the passing streetlamps reflected in the polished steel. The move works. It usually does. She becomes completely still. Sarah, Chloe’s mother, stares open-mouthed at the blade. It has a very narrow tip and glints viciously along its stone-whetted edge.
So begins the kidnapping that plunges Gabriel Wolfe into a search and rescue mission in the Baltic state of Estonia. But there is more at stake than the lives of two British tourists. Someone is tinkering with a performance-enhancing drug designed to help British fighter pilots exploit the potential of the Typhoon fighter.
Caught between Russian mafia bosses and Chechen terrorists, Gabriel has to find the hostages before the crowds at the Farnborough Airshow witness a jet fighter flown into the ground at 900 mph by its hallucinating pilot.
The mission calls for street-fighting skills, military strategy and a stint undercover as a doorman for Jonny Rocketz, a sleazy bar in Talinn’s red light district. Gabriel is up for the challenge, but he’s still carrying guilt for leaving a comrade’s body behind in his last, disastrous mission for the SAS. Will it overwhelm him just when he needs to be at his most focused?
This is the second full-length outing for Gabriel Wolfe, former SAS soldier and freelance security consultant. If you like your action heroes to have an intriguing back story alongside their military chops, he’s the man for you.
Andy Maslen writes thrillers across a number of genres: police procedurals, vigilante, psychological, suspense and horror. He spent 30 years in business before turning to writing full time.
Readers praise Andy's novels for their relatable characters, realistic dialogue, sense of place and kinetic action sequences, and for his meticulous research into police procedure around the world.
He is the creator of best-selling series featuring Kat Ballantyne, Gabriel Wolfe, Stella Cole and Inspector Ford, plus standalone novels and short stories.
Andy was born in Nottingham, England. After leaving university with a degree in psychology, he worked in business for thirty years as a copywriter. In his spare time, he plays the guitar. He lives in Wiltshire.
Gabriel Wolfe is quickly becoming a favorite character of mine. Blind Impact by Andy Maslen is another good story with this ex SAS soldier who likes wine and fast cars. This time the plot is rather scary when you think about what is going on in Europe. It's a wild ride that starts with an photo exhibition and a kidnapping and takes our hero into the baltic states. I find the book well written and I like the fact that the author manages to incorporate a good deal of humor.
Action packed entertainment. While a mother and daughter are kidnapped, Gabriel is drawn into the work of rescuing them. He is suffering from PTSD, but he still goes ahead with the job. The entire book is filled with action and vivid description of the events, making it feel real. Adding on top of it, Gabriel’s PTSD makes him more human as his flashbacks make him vulnerable and he learns to overcome it. Highly entertaining read.
Another very well written thriller from Andy Maslen. In this one Wolfe's PTSD plays a prominent role early in the novel. Then the story moves into the meat of the thriller, searching and rescue of two kidnapped women being held by Chechen terrorists in Estonia.
For this type novel there are very few leaps of faith. Always a pleasure to follow the story along using logic.
Enjoyed Trigger Point but Blind Impact went one step further from Russian scientists injuring pilots by altering Gulliver which was designed to enhance flying to making them fear what’s in plane. The designer of Gulliver has his wife and daughter kidnapped by Chechen bandits and taken to Estonia. Gabriel Wolfe is recruited to find the women and bring them home by his old SAS boss. Action hero Wolfe strikes again Riviting Read
Having the first Gabriel Wolfe book I picked up a 4pack and started on #2 which finds Gabriel tasked to find and recover the wife and daughter of the head of a pharmaceutical company that have been kidnapped and held by Chechen separatists and held in Estonia. Lots of action and Gabriel hits the seamy side of town to pick up the trail and finds himself in the meddle of the Russian Mob and the Chechen's. Meanwhile he is fighting PTSD flashbacks to an earlier operation where he lost a men and feels it was on him.
I started by reading the DI Henry Ford books. Found them quite interesting and well written. I then moved onto the Gabriel Woolfe books and have found them very poor. The plots are simple and the characters are unbelievable. The story is padded out with incredibly long winded descriptions of weapons, cars etc. In the end I just skim read through these passages. Might appeal to some people but not me.
Gabriel Wolfe (with an e, lol) is a very interesting main character. He's into action, romance and fine wine! Just. A. DeAdline is a wonderful author, keeping the plot line a little twisted but exciting. Lots of Gabriel's thoughts which are intense, to say the least. But action, romance is there as well. Let's just s a y, I love this series and am always ready the for the next!
Andy Maslen, blends story with detailed descriptions, so good you think you’re actually experiencing the story or looking over the shoulder of the protagonist. This is the second book I’ve read and looking forward to downloading the 3rd. Great page turner, believable plot and characters you can relate to. Well worth a read.
Andy continues to pump out exciting reads. Using Wolfe again as the main character in a more than hostile situation. Make sure you passport is ready because you will need it traveling with Gabriel Wolfe.
As with many writers, their second book is weaker than the first. I didn’t find myself as enthralled with this book, but I will read the third one. I do like the character.
Great follow up to Gabriel Wolfe’s first adventure/ thriller book. Well written lots of interesting information about munitions etc. Looking forward to reading more in this series
Always a story, continuous action and survival. Very similar to other great reads by other authors . Once started it takes a real effort to put it down.
Good characters development and exciting action. Good description of the countryside and cities. Fast paced and believable. Gabriel needs s steady lady.
