“Samuel Chand is one of the brightest lights on the horizon of the church today.” —Jack W. Hayford “In the words of my late father, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Dr. Chand is not a searcher of consensus but a molder of consensus.” —Bernice A. King
The book is an excellent source of information to help you become a better leader. In order to become a great leader you need to surround yourself with like minded people. I liked when the author said that you want to be around others that are going to be honest with you. They will not lead you down the wrong path, but will help guide you and encourage you.
I loved when the book said, "To grow as a leader, grow other leaders." I remember when I was a supervisor I had a person who was so difficult to work with. She did the opposite of what I asked her to do and seemed to always cause discord in the group. What I finally realized was she had great leader skills and I used those skills to help the department run smoothly. Slowly she began to blossom and became a supervisor in another department.
It is so true that we don't want people just like us because we won't really grow . We need people with different skills that can help us strengthen our skills. If we just hire people that only know as much as us, we certainly can't grow. Surround yourself with people who are more experienced so you can learn from them. I remember a manager that didn't like me because I knew more about the job and she felt threatened. What she needed to do was let me share my knowledge , but instead she became very hard to work with and found fault with my work.
The book is very informative and really gives you sound advice as you achieve to be a better leader. We do need to learn to focus on one thing we are good at, and improve ourselves in that area. Sometimes we tend to try to do too many things that we are ok at, instead of focusing on the one thing we are great at. The author does a great job in giving examples of companies that have overcome obstacles to become a bettter and larger organization. Overall the book is a great tool to read as you grow as a leader, cast your vision and transform "your attitude, thinking, and commitments."

“Using a wealth of examples gleaned from today's top organizations, Dr. Samuel R. Chand lays a solid foundation to prepare today's leaders for the unavoidable difficulties. Whether you run a corporation, a non-profit organization, or a church, 8 Steps to Achieve Your Destiny will provide insight into eight issues every leader must face.” In this book the author writes about the importance of the people you work with That those you have worked with in the past are not the ones that will be good for your future. He talks about the importance of having positive people, people who will help you grow and those that will grow with you. He writes about the places our future will take us. As humans we cling to the familiar, but with God's help we strive for the unfamiliar. It is in the unfamiliar that we learn to trust God and have faith in him. To have growth we must walk in the unfamiliar. The author points that for some people that being left in the familiar too long will lead them to becoming bored and restless. These gifted visionaries need to move on. Each time we respond to a new possibility, new doors open for us. Our attitude and thinking changes. He also walks us through the importance of personal preparedness for growth. But not everything about growth is easy. There will be pain, there will be criticism from others. When I was asked to read this book, I did not realize that it would become a book that would help me with my “growth”. As a volunteer of many different programs, most in the leadership capacity, I have had to step back and take a look at what direction my future holds. This book has been very helpful during this time. As I step away from programs that I have been with for a long time or those that are very near and dear to my heart, I have felt extreme pain. But through this book I have come to realize this is the way it should be. That to have stayed in those positions I would have grown frustrated. The hardest thing for me when moving forward has been leaving the people what I have worked with. And with this book, I see that is also normal That I will now be involved with a whole new group of people who will help me grow even more. I really was helped a lot by reading this book. It helped reaffirm to me that the changes I am making in my volunteer life are doors that God are closing and opening for me. Some of them not always what I thought would happen. If you are in a leadership position and are feeling frustrated, bored and felling there is something else out there for you, this is a must read book! I received a copy of this book from the publisher and Book Club Network. This is my honest review.
8 Steps to Achieve Your Destiny - Lead Your Life With Purpose by Dr. Samuel Chand is a little book with a lot of wisdom. It is a helpful tool to assist leaders in developing and strengthening their abilities to successfully run an organization of any type or size. One quote from the book that I liked is "To make progress, leaders have to make strategic shifts in their attitudes and behavior". If you are looking to hone your leadership abilities, this is a good book for you to read.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher and The Book Club Network in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own and I was not required to leave a positive review.
8 Steps to Achieve Your Destiny is a 176 page book by author Samuel. Chand. This small but mighty leadership book is published by Whitaker House. Author Chand uses experience and personal, true stories in his book to aid leaders in learning how to better achieve their destiny.
His book is divided into eight topics to assist leaders. These topics are: New People (identifying characteristics and learning how to work with them), New Pains (change makes it, embrace it), New Places (where you wish to go and how you will get there), New Perspectives (new ways to see things and find mentors), New Priorities (defining how to reach your goal), New Passions (excitement as things change), New Preparations (habits and skills), and New Possibilities (risks and opportunities). Each chapter focuses on a new change that leaders face. Using encouraging, realistic suggestion, author Chand offers ways leaders can benefit and move forward through change. At the end of each chapter are "Teaching Points" and illustrations.
This book would be good for not just leaders but those working on a committee or dealing with change. Sensible advice is offered to help cope with and deal with change. It is written to be easily understood. The author has a nice writing style. He has researched and organized the book well. He talks about relying on God. It is a nice leadership book.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a book on leadership or help with change. I rated it a 4 out of 5 stars. I was given the book by Book Fun (The Book Club Network) and this is my honest review.
If you are a leader, you will face difficulties. Chand offers insights on leadership he has gathered over the years.
He highlights eight topics. New People (identifying characteristics and dealing with them), New Pains (change creates it so get used to it and embrace it), New Places (where you want to go and how you'll get there), New Perspectives (new ways to see and finding mentors), New Priorities (defining steps to reach your goal), New Passions (rediscovering excitement as life changes), New Preparations (daily habits and skills), New Possibilities (embrace the risks and opportunities).
Chand says the biggest challenge for leaders is within them – their perceptions and attitudes. He provides insights on how to overcome roadblocks and find new ways to respond to people and situations. He includes good suggestions. He also gives great examples where leaders capitalized on ideas like he presents as well as others who totally missed it.
There is nothing in this book that will shake the leadership culture. Chand give sensible and inspiring suggestions. This would be a good book for any leader to read either as encouragement or a review of current leadership practices. Chand includes Teaching Points at the end of each chapter, as well as visuals, so this book could be used in leading a seminar or other group session.
Note: This is a reprint under a new title of LadderShifts, published about a decade ago.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through The Book Club Network. My comments are an independent and honest review.
This is a great resource for company leaders and church pastors and boards. It covers the ways and means for an organization to grow.
Each chapter defines one area that organizations need to deal with along with how to achieve the individual growth goals. The subtitle for this book is Lead Your Life With Purpose. In the introduction the author leads off with strategic shifts. Then he develops the topics of “new…” such as people, pain, priorities, passions, and possibilities to name a few.
This book is worth reading, sharing, and discussing with other leader friends.
This little book is a great resource for any leader in any type of organization, including churches. This book was a very easy read and very informative.
This book is written in 8 chapters and helps the reader to prepare for any unforeseen problems possibly arising in an organization. Samuel R. Chand also shares some true-to-life stories in each chapter. Even though I am not a leader in an organization, I really enjoyed the practical tidbits in this book.
I would highly recommend this book to a leader in any type of organization.
I received this book from bookfun for my honest opinon.
