Tempting The Light is a fun, fast-paced comedy paranormal read. No vampires or weres here. Unique monsters, a heroine cursed by a genie who pops out of a tampon box on her 25th birthday and a hero working undercover from L.A.M.P.S. (Legends and Myths Police Squad).

Abby Fitzpatrick is a bad luck magnet and on her birthday she loses her job, finds her boyfriend having sex in their bed with a mime and then it gets worse. The females in her family are under a curse that skips a generation and it is her turn. That the monster appears every month with her period is hysterical. Then, the man she is lusting after and falling in love with was sent to kill her.

River Stone is the new sheriff in town, but his real purpose is to work undercover to find and kill the two Cryptids spotted in the area, a brain eating Gnome and The Jersey Devil. He stops Abbey while she is speeding through town to move in with her friend Pepper and can’t stop being intrigued by her, her cherry Chapstick and her bad luck. He knows she is hiding something, but doesn’t realize how close he is to one of his targets.

Add in Abbey’s best friend, Pepper who rescues animals and sells vegan dog treats and Ottar, River’s superior at L.A.M.P.S., who is a bit weapons happy and you have even more comedic relief. All the rescued pets, Kazoo for Abbey and Hercules for River made for a fun read with heart. I have rescued dogs and love the addition.

This is a good first book to a new series. I would like to have had more world-building included. Without more back story, I felt the characters at times were two dimensional with the comedy trying to make up for the lack of depth. That said, it is still a fun series to read with laugh out loud moments and as more books are added, I will be following.

This book was HILARIOUS! I mean, seriously! A Jeanie pops out of a tampon box and curses Abby, the main character. LOL funny! This is after she finds her boyfriend in the act of cheating on her with a mime; to top it off, the mime stays in character throughout the whole situation and never talks. Luckily, Abby seems fine with it as she storms out saying “I hope you have ugly clown babies.” Her boyfriend, and his “mini-manly parts” has a sick fetish with mime’s and clowns; and it’s made obvious when she is talking to her best friend and says, “I should have dumped him when I found his subscription to the clown porn site,” seriously, is that a real thing? I’m too scared to google it.

I absolutely loved the characters; Abby and Pepper sound like me and my best friend. I love the chemistry between Abby and River, “to bad he wants to kill (Abby) me.” The writing was excellent; not too wordy or too little details, just the right amount to keep the story reading smoothly. It was a quick, easy, and fun read. I loved everything about Tempting the Light. I look forward to more of this series; I hope to learn more about Pepper and Ottar with the next book. In case you haven’t figured it out by now, Tempting the Light is a HUGE 5 Boundless Star book for me....Beth

Tempting the Light by Bonnie Gill is a really funny Paranormal Romance. It had me laughing from the very first page. And it only got better from there. This book was more than funny. It was freakin hilarious.

The main character, Abby, is so easy to relate to. She’s awkward and has the worst luck you can imagine. From walking in on her boyfriend with a mime, to finding a genie in a tampon box that curses her to turn into a Jersey Devil every time she gets her period., I felt so bad for her. Her best friend Pepper is just as funny. This poor girl just can’t get a break.

One of the things I really liked about Tempting the Light  is how creative it is. The idea of someone turning into a monster when she gets her period is pretty unique. There are also other creatures mentioned in this book, specifically Gnomes. I will never look at one of those little garden bastards the same way ever again. EVER. Nasty little buggers they are! I’ve never heard the word Cryptid before either, so that was new to me.

River Stone is a Cryptid hunter for Legends and Myths Police Squad (L.A.M.P.S.), as well as the sexy new sheriff in town. The sexual tension between Abby and River is thick. But of course it can’t just be an easy thing. They have plenty of hurdles in their way, like the fact that River was sent to Haber Cove, NJ to kill the Jersey Devil that was spotted in the area, AKA Abbie! I also really liked River’s friend Ottar. He was pretty funny.

My only complaint would be that I felt like River was a bit too mushy for me. As in, he felt too lovey dovey in his thoughts of Abby. It’s probably fine for other people, but for me it was just a bit much. It’s sweet and all, but I’m a little bit jaded, so it felt too unrealistic. Yeah, yeah, I know it’s a book about mythical creatures and not intended to be realistic in that sense.

If you like Paranormal Romance and have a sense of humor, check out Tempting the Light . I seriously doubt you have ever read anything like it before.

Tempting the Light by Bonnie Gill is a delightful read and her characters are well developed, smart, sexy and extremely passionate and made an impression on me. Bonnie Gill is a new author of paranormal romance but from reading this book you would never know this was the case as it is written so well. Tempting the Light isn’t your average paranormal book. It has the regular shapeshifters, nasty creatures, magic, romance but she added a comical twist to her story as well.

Abby Fitzgerald not only did she loses her job, but she just caught her boyfriend doing the horizontal mamba with another woman but it’s on her twenty-fifth birthday. Since she was a little girl she was told she was cursed and upon her twenty-fifth birthday she would turn into the Jersey Devil. If she didn’t consider her day bad enough she’s pulled over by the new sheriff in town, River Stone with his sexy body, a smile that makes his eyes shine and oh, his big package.

Sheriff River Stone thought Abby was an Angle; well make that a fallen angel if he trusted his instincts that she’s hiding something. He knew he was in trouble when she accidently fell into his arms and they wrapped around her tight little body. The intense craving to explore her petite form was overwhelming. He knew then he wanted her.

I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves paranormal books.

I found this book by accident and I’m glad I did. It’s such a unique book and not something I’ve read before, because it’s not every day a genie comes out of a tampon box and curses you.

Abby is having the worst day of her life and finding out she is cursed and once a month she will turn into a creature she has no control of is just the icing on the cake of her crappy day. After a run in with the new sheriff she wonders if her luck might be changing.

River, the new sheriff in town, isn’t exactly what you see. He has a bigger job. Find monsters and kill them. He was sent to the small town of Harbor Cove to do just that. When River takes one look at Abby and he forgets what he is supposed to be doing.

When the Jersey Devil and the Gnome start causing problems River calls in a friend to help him hunt down the Crypdides. When the body count starts rising, when secrets are revealed, and when someone he cares about is at risk River must make one of the hardest decisions of his life. Do what he is in town to do, kill the monster, or go after the person he loves.

The book is amazing and funny right from the start. I’m glad I discovered this wonderful new author. Bonnie Gill propels us into the world of live Gnomes, tampon genies, and Jersey Devils, and makes it so you never want to leave.

This story starts with Abby, a girl with a streak of bad luck a mile wide which also includes her boyfriend cheating on her. She leaves him and moves in with her friend. The day Aunt Flo comes to visit is the day that her life changes from bad luck to weird.

This was a fast-paced story, filled with interesting and opposing characters. It was well-written, with no editing or grammatical errors to distract the eye. The descriptions are enough that can clearly see everything - whether you want to or not. The ending seemed a bit abrupt to me though, not only with the pacing but also with the characters and climax themselves. However, it is only the first book in the series, and I look forward to returning to the L.A.M.P.S. series. Definitely recommended by me.

Oh my god! This book was so funny! You start out with a genie in a tampon box. Needless to say, with that kind of intro, I didn’t know what to expect. This book was very entertaining. It will have you laughing from the first time the genie pops up. Most of the humor for me was in Pepper’s sarcasm. Pepper is Abby’s best friend. Of course, Pepper is her partner in crime, also. Although, I am not sure how much trouble she keeps her out of or if she just mainly finds it for her. But, she has her back no matter what so I can’t fault the girl. Come along as Bonnie Gill takes you on this hilarious ride, meet the Jersey Devil, a mean little gnome, and the people that will help Abby get rid of her curse.

When the paranormal have bad luck....

An interesting take on some lesser known beasties. Loved it and look forward to the next in the series. So what do you get when you combine an old family curse, a gnome, baddies, a heroine who has bad luck x 2, the jersey devil, a hot cop with a secret agenda, add in a best friend, gun toting boss and you have an adventure that defies belief. The story is well written and I have to admit there were parts that caused me to giggle, bring on book 2. P.S. Every time that lil gnome showed up all of a sudden David Bowie's Gnome song would start playing in my head, terrifying let me tell you.

Tempting The Light was a fast-paced story with interesting characters. I found it to be well written, and there were no noticeable errors that distracted me. This was a great book for the lovers of Paranormal Romance with lots of Humor! The ending did seem a bit abrupt, but since it’s the first book in the series I hope that the next book makes up for that. I definitely recommend this book.

What a fun read! The characters were charming and unique with their own distinct personalities. Overall, the book was hilarious- there were twists and turns and I never knew what (or who) would pop up next! Genies, gnomes, and Jersey Devils- oh my! A must read if you are looking for a laugh with a side of steamy romance! Cannot wait to read the next book of the LAMPS series.

Lighthearted and fun

This book displays humor as it conjures a genie in a tampon. Yes a genies in a tampon box, and a horrid gnome. With a couple of sexy scenes to make sizzle and good characters it's an easy breezy read. Although not the most lavish book out there i like that in hard world books like this can lighten the mood.

Don't miss this one! Captivating characters on a wild supernatural ride with a playful spark of romance. Tempting the Light has humour and sass in a world inhabited by monsters that aren't the same old, same old. Looking forward to more from the L.A.M.P.S. series!

This book is a real page turner from start to finish. A paranormal romance that doesn't take itself too seriously. With gnomes and genies you never know where it will take you next. An absolute joy to read. This review is done on behalf of Amo & Sarah's book corner.

This is an ok read for me. The story lacks any depth or substance, there is some comedy but it got old for me. I felt that the action is rushed, and some of it seem absurd at times, so I was just glad I finished it. I most likely will not read the next one.

“Tempting The Light”, first in the 'L.A.M.P.S.' series is a pleasant read with some excellent one liners but, as a mostly cosy paranormal story, it
doesn't quite cut the mustard.
Abby Fitzpatrick goes home after being fired, finds her boyfriend making the beast with two backs with a mime (!), and gets cursed by a tampon genie.
From now one, on the first day of her period, she will turn into the legendary Jersey Devil Monster - a mysterious creature about which little is known.
The new sheriff in town, River Stone, is an undercover agent of the Legends and Myths Police Squad (LAMPS). His task it to track down the Jersey Devil and a man-eating Gnome who have been spotted in the area.
Abby ain't telling anyone except her best friend Pepper about her predicament and she sure as hell isn't going to fall for the hunky sheriff.
River suspects that Abby knows more than her prayers and he sure as hell ain't gonna fall for her!
No prizes for guessing how that works out for them.
3 Stars.

An alternative version of the ultimate PMS

Enter a sweet young thing, who thinks that life is behaving normal -for her: If it can go wrong, it will- what would you do?

What if you could live your life for the first 25 years happily but with mildly bad luck as the norm. Then on your 25th birthday you get a visit from your very own cursed genie. Who lets you know that from now on (once per month), you ll turn into a very cursed demon — mythological, but demon none the less. This happens once and the young lady is determined to escape the curse.

Would you hook up with anyone? Romantically? Old best friend? Live life the best way you can? Or try to hide, and disappear?

Not too bad

Pretty darn enjoyable read. Poor Abby had the worst run of bad luck and weird happenings. I love her best friend pepper and I hope that we get to read a story about her and a particular aussie. River was pretty darn fantastic ! This was a mix of paranormal mystery, and humor, with a sprinkle of passionate moments! I wish we had some more Intel on the characters and that...gosh I can't say without spoilers. Anywho this was an enjoyable read and I liked the uniqueness of the cryptids. They are a first and it was pretty awesome. Definitely going to continue on to the next in the series.

This is a fun book. Ms. Gill doesn’t stick with the normal Supernaturals that are so common in many of the books these days, and goes off the beaten path with her twists on the characters. The characters are easy to like, and even with all the humor, there’s romance and action, and a hilarious twist near the end that made me laugh out loud. Even the secondary characters are interesting. When River’s partner shows up, more hilarity ensues. And you think those little garden gnomes are cute in your garden? Think again… Reviewed by Cyrene

It’s your birthday, you get fired from your job, and you come home to catch your boyfriend screwing a mime in your bed. Great, just great.

Then she gets her monthly visitor and a genie pops out to start her curse. What curse? Don’t women already have a curse?

The narrative was clever and snarky, but the story had too many weird elements for my liking. Plus, it was a little long and didn’t keep me vested in it very well.

Eh, not that great.

Wonderful, I’ve been cursed by the Tampon Genie 10 GOLD L.A.M.P.S.

Also, there was that little fact that he wanted to kill her and didn’t even know it yet. Did the Gods have no mercy? GNOMES, GENIES & JERSEY DEVILS, OH MY!! This has to be one of, if not THE most hilarious, nerve-wracking, sweet & spicy romance stories I have ever read! I started out highlighting the lines that had me literally laughing out loud, but by the end of chapter 2 I had at least 75% of it highlighted! The humor is top notch, beyond hilarious and like no other! As funny as this story is, there still is a LOT of story content to go with it! The premise itself is unique & captured my attention right from the start. But what makes this GENIETACULAR story come to life is Bonnie's FURTASTIC talent! In my opinion, any author can write a campy, funny short-ish story. But how many can write a full length novel with wit, humor and a completely captivating story line all wrapped up in a paranormal romance that will make your heart soar?!? Well, Bonnie Gill CAN! And she DID! Oh boy DID SHE EVER!!! I LOVE EVERYTHING in this story - the humor, romance, secrets, the animals, accidents, curses, spells, lies, friendships, betrayal, the tampon genie, gnome & even a Jersey Devil and more – YES! There IS more! – all of it so expertly & perfectly woven together to craft a book I never wanted to end! Bonnie did a phenomenal job blending the humor with the seriousness, the romance with the heartbreak, the evil vs. good, just ALL OF IT! The characters are well rounded, multifaceted and seem so real! The storyline itself is one I completely got lost in, living the story with Abby, Pepper, Kazoo, River and everyone else, loving the ingenuity of it all, loving how Bonnie transported me to another world where gnomes & tampon genies really do exist!! This is one MAGICTACULAR book and I CANNOT wait for more from this phenomenal debut author!! Remember this moment, because I guarantee that Bonnie's FURNOMENAL talent and genuine gift will have you seeing "Bonnie Gill" on the best sellers list for many, many books & years to come! No Genie Curse or Blessing required!

Oh. My. God. You have to read this book. If you love paranormal romance with a twist of humor, Bonnie Gill’s new release, Tempting the Light should have a place on your reading shelf.

Gill set her story in contemporary New Jersey where Abby Fitzgerald finds herself living out her family’s notorious curse. And the worst part isn’t that a tampon genie cursed her on the first day of her period every month – no, the worst part for Abby is the man she’s fallen in love with is the one man who’s been sent to destroy her thanks to her damned curse.

River Stone works for the Legends and Myths Paranormal Squad hunting Cryptids and keeping humans safe. When he takes a new assignment where he must stop or kill a man eating gnome and the legendary Jersey Devil, the last thing he expects is to fall for the lovely Abby. She’s entranced him, yet she changes into the notorious Jersey Devil.

I loved this story. How can these two lovers resolve this impasse? Will Abby find a way to stop the curse? How will River resolve his professional duty with what his heart tells him must be? They garner some help from their friends Pepper and Ottar, secondary characters who are hilariously drawn and promise a future story of their own, I hope.

No spoilers here. You’ll have to nab yourself a copy and see how Abby and River resolve their impossible dilemma and deal with their inevitable romance.

I laughed all the way to the end. If you love paranormal romance, have a soft spot in your heart for animals, love a happily ever after yet yearn for a twist of humor to lighten the mood, treat yourself to a copy of this book.

I’ll be looking forward to more from Bonnie Gill and the L.A.M.P.S. sexy Cryptid hunters.

I was given an ARC of the novel in exchange for my honest review.

I’m not sure what to make of L.A.M.P.S. I mean, there were two Cryptids loose in the area surrounding Haber Cove. They send two agents who are obviously good at their jobs, but seem to have different agendas. And what is the agenda of L.A.M.P.S.? Let’s see: capture the gnome who they already know to be highly dangerous to humans. But kill the Jersey Devil that they really know nothing about. Wouldn’t you want to capture the creature you are unfamiliar with for, you know, further study – alive! Agendas.

L.A.M.P.S. agenda is not really the main theme in the story, but I had to get that out. I can see this theme being developed for future books in the series.

The romance is the main theme of the story. Between Abby Fitzpatrick and River Stone. They are a cute couple and, quite frankly, they deserve each other. I mean that in the best possible way. Both are young, clueless and prone to act before they think. It makes for a humorous courtship.

These characters are quite young giving this book a new adult feel. Not exactly my cup of tea because I am, to be honest, old. However, there is also quite a bit of funny stuff in this book, which redeems it in my mind. In Tempting the Light you will find:
◾A tampon machine
◾The green Jinn of Arabia
◾Tupperware
◾Naked dancing
◾A mime
◾Sasquatch

If any of these things have piqued your interest and you are looking for an entertaining light read, you might want to check out Tempting the Light.

The author provided a copy of this book so that I could bring you this honest review.
