The Hungry were feral creatures; only, instead of being brainless, flesh consuming monsters, they could think. They had been normal people, humans, infected and twisted into something unrecognizable. I wasn’t a Hungry, but I wasn’t who I had been before, either. There was no room for hesitation or kindness in this new life, not if I wanted to survive. I had to be strong, and I had to save my friends. I couldn’t lose even more people that I loved. Of course, I wasn’t alone in my losses. Everyone I had ever known, everyone that I would ever know, had lost someone to the Hungry.
