During the past several months, terrorists have carried out attacks in and around Moscow, Russia. Citizens are living in fear, not knowing when, or where, the next attack will occur. Natasha Volkov, an agent with the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB), has been tasked with the job of finding Anton Rudin; authorities suspect Rudin is responsible for making, and possibly detonating, the powerful explosive devices that were used in the attacks.
Aaron Hardy, former Special Forces operator and U.S. Marine, has recently accepted a top-secret, unofficial position working directly for the President of the United States. His job description is simple; root out and eradicate terrorists around the globe, using all available resources at his disposal. His first mission is to fly to Russia to meet with Volkov; together, they are to track down, and eliminate, Rudin.
In their search for Rudin, Hardy and Volkov discover a serious threat to Russian security that has the potential to send the nation, its’ citizen’s nerves already raw from fear, into all-out panic. Hardy and Volkov soon learn that finding Rudin holds the key to accomplishing their objectives, taking another terrorist off the battlefield and returning peace to Russia.

I sure was glad to know that Natasha is okay. I didn't think it possible that such a beautiful and complex character could be killed off so quickly, and especially not by freezing to death.
Although the description of the characters' clothes got in the way, I realized that the detailed descriptions of the other things (settings, place, feelings) are what make the story come to life, and I am thankful for that. Also, it wouldn't make sense to describe in detail only certain parts of the story and leave other parts hazy. I think being consistent is a good quality for a writer.
I liked Victor's joke about Aaron Hardy being short. In America, Hardy is not considered short, but among a couple of hefty Russian guys, yeah, he isn't tall, comparatively. :) I really like reading about characters who are there for each other and would give their lives for their team-mates. It gives me a nice feeling to know that there are such people out there, even if the story is fiction.
I felt really sorry for Natasha, even more than I did for Hardy. Maybe it's because she doesn't have a chance with Hardy even though she liked him so much. She'll get over it I guess, and maybe find someone.
When it comes to Cruz and Hardy, I just feel so frustrated that he can't tell her about his job and that she feels like he's not being completely honest with her. I feel like going into the book and telling them both, "Guys, it doesn't matter! You're meant for each other, so just trust each other and things'll turn out alright!" However, I know that this friction between them makes their relationship more interesting, and that love won easily is love not won at all. There has to be struggles, there has to be ups and downs, for it all to become something worthwhile.
One more thing before I go: I totally love the way the author titles the chapters: short one-word titles like "Oval Office" or "Cafe", so quaint and cute. One word, enough to tell you what is going on, or where the character is... but not revealing any secrets, or the outcome of a fight or even a date, for that matter! :)
Director Jameson had taken the rest of the morning to brief Hardy on the assignment. He was to locate Anton Rudin and kill him. Rudin was a bomb maker for hire. He made sophisticated and powerful explosive devices and sold them to anyone who could meet his price. While not a terrorist himself, he was a terrorist-supplier. And that designation earned him a higher spot on kill lists, on Hardy’s list. Eliminate the bomb maker, and the terrorists’ resources dwindle. For the past five months, Russia had been experiencing a wave of domestic terrorist attacks, including several bombings in and around Moscow. The Russian authorities had suspected Rudin as the supplier, but had not been able to find him. In a spirit of cooperation, Russia had contacted the White House and had agreed to share information on Rudin in the hopes of stopping further attacks. Since the two country’s diplomatic relations had been cool, the call had been a real ‘olive branch’ of a gesture.
