Spike is an indoor cat who’s been watching Jason play Minecraft for years. When one afternoon – SWOOSH! – Spike gets sucked into Jason’s game. But Spike isn’t happy with the world Jason has created and makes some big changes of his own. (Jason didn’t need those emeralds, did he?) It doesn’t take long before Spike goes from ocelot bait to king of the jungle.
A fun book for reluctant and experienced readers with a recommended reading level of ages 7-8 and grades 2nd- 3rd. Book One in the MINECAT series from Montage Publishing.

Minecat: A Whole Lot of Ocelots - A Feline Minecraft Adventure is book 1 from the children's series by P.T. Evans. Jason’s cat, Spike, is convinced he can play Minecraft much better than Jason, and will not make those stupid mistakes either. His opportunity comes when he is sucked into the actual game on the laptop. Spike makes a few changes to improve the scenes Jason had created.
While enjoying the activities, he meets a few creepers and giant spiders who are menacing. One even tries to bite his tail, but Spike manages to escape. He is unaccustomed to hunting for his own food, but feels like a real cat now. He is hungry, but cannot catch the chickens, so he explores the woods instead. Spike does not want to be chased by ocelots so he hatches a plan to befriend them, hoping he survives with his nine lives.
Minecat: A Whole Lot of Ocelots by P.T. Evans is a fun novella for children from the Minecraft series. Spike is witty and his antics are amusing. There is an actual photo of a cute cat chasing a butterfly in the story, so I assume it is Spike, as he is sketched in the Minecraft illustrations.
P.T. Evans's writing style is lively and simple to comprehend so kids will not have trouble following Spike's escapades. Minecat: A Whole Lot of Ocelots is from the series that the author created specifically for children. Those who play Minecraft games will like reading this novella. Recommended.

My Review
Minecat was a quick easy read and was enjoyable enough. The story follows Spike the indoor cat who has his own "outdoor" adventure in the world of Minecraft. The language used is simple enough but with some longer words that caused Nerdling to ask about them, which is always a good way to teach new words. The illustrations were not to my taste, they felt very amateur against the back drop of the Minecreft screen shots. Not a bad children's book, but not one that I would enjoy reading to them more than once.
7 Year Old Nerdling Review
I really enjoyed the story and I think Spike is very funny. I liked the funny drawings, they made me laugh. I didn't think Jason was very nice as he ruined everything that Spike had done in Minecraft. I would like to read more stories about Spike.
Final Thought
Overall definitely a children's book that makes the child happy, but not necessarily the parent who might have to read it to them. I would still get the next in the series for my Nerdling as she enjoyed it and she can read them herself.
Today We Did When Jason’s cat, Spike, gets sucked into the computer, he finds himself in Jason’s Minecraft world. After watching Jason play Minecraft for hours on end, Spike finally gets to build the world himself. He takes full advantage of this to make his perfect home.
Minecraft has many fans around the world that play regularly. I am not one of these people, but I have watched my daughter play, and she talks about her game often, so I wasn’t completely in the dark. I had not seen ocelots in the game before, but after reading this my daughter went and found some ocelots and domesticated them just for me to see!
I rather enjoyed Minecat. It was a short and quick read, but the story was fun. It is a chapter book using reasonably simple language with short sentences and chapters. The allure of Minecraft will get the readers in, and the engaging story will keep them reading.
Spike is quirky, sweet and funny. And maybe just a little bit egocentric! I liked it when he was re-arranging Jason’s Minecraft house, adding climbing stations, beds, and eating all the flowers. Those spiders were a tad creepy, but the domesticated ocelots were very cute!
There are some illustrations in the story, such as images from Minecraft, often with Spike added to them. I liked the way Spike was drawn, he is pretty cute, and his insertion into the images and photos worked well. My favourite picture was where Spike was swinging on a vine in the jungle. The pictures suit the story.
My fourth grader loves Minecraft and spends hours playing it with her friends. She also loves cats. When I told her I had a copy of Minecat for her to read she was very excited. She read it quickly in one sitting, and has already re-read it a couple of times. She thought it was an excellent read for any Minecraft fan, though it was a bit easy for her. She’s quite enthusiastic about reading more in this series.
Minecat: A Whole Lot of Ocelots is suitable for primary school students. It would also suit reluctant readers, especially those with a love of Minecraft.

I have just end to read “A Feline Minecraft Adventure” written by P.T. Evans, a really nice story for a 6 – 8 years old kid. Easy language perfect for a kid that is starting reading by himself or herself, with few new words that can increase vocabulary and for parents that aren’t involve in modern language could be a first step. I think was a cute book that brings laughs. I had the opportunity to read it with a kid (9 years old) so from my point of view it’s a perfect book for reading before bed time, the story begins when accidentally a cat named spike in some way enters to de Minecraft world, he will have funny adventures thought the game finding out why his kid, Jason, like this world so much. Spike learns take care to himself and even gain loyal followers that would help him to create his kingdom. I would like that Spike at the end says that is happier in the real world but I recommend it as a playful story.
Upon receiving this book I wasn't sure what to expect. To my surprise it was about a cat and a video game. The story is told from the cat's perspective. He gets sucked into the Minecraft video game which starts his adventure of playing the game he has watched his owner play so many times before but in his way. The cat is having so much fun he decided to stay in the video game. I won't re-hash what others have already said. However, I do like the fact that the author allowed the cat to maintain his feline qualities even though he's very witty at times. It's a short read but very entertaining. I think children and cat lovers would definitely enjoy this book. As for me, I think cats are ok and I enjoyed reading it. I don't know if the storyline has been done before but for me I enjoyed the originality!
