Dylan Peterson, 17, is an average kid living an ordinary life. He works hard to get good grades in school, he has a crush on a girl who is out of his league, and he is in constant competition with his younger brothers. His normal life soon becomes extraordinary when the Great Protector of Life approaches him. He becomes a member of Guardian Angels who are sworn to protect all life on Earth. Their greatest threat is an unimaginable evil seeking to cast the world into eternal darkness. The Angels fight to banish the darkness but it ruthlessly preserves. Dylan must learn to harness and wield a blue flame in order to protect his home and those he loves. Upon discovery of his gifts, he learns Naomi, his crush, too is an Angel. They develop their powers, and it soon becomes clear they share a power no other Angel possesses. Could they be the key to finally stopping the darkness once and for all?
This is a great read! The characters are easy to relate to. The storyline is creative and unique and it gets better and better the more you read. I can't wait to read the sequel!
I enjoyed how it left off at a cliffhanger of sorts, with Naomi, Dylan and Ruth looking for Nuru. Another thing I liked was when you found out that Ki turned out to be taken over by the darkness, which piqued my interest, and I can’t wait to see his new personality, when all the angels find out that he has been taken over by the darkness. Additionally, I also liked the concept of the angels and how they are just humans who have been recruited to take care of Mother Nature. Furthermore, I loved how the angels fire powers could be transformed into different weapons and how Hercules and Thor were brought into the story as angels. What I struggled with, though, was the writing. It was very simplistic, and settings weren’t described very thoroughly, so it was kind of a struggle to get a sense of where the story was taking place. Another thing I wish would have happened is if the relationship between Naomi and Dylan was more built up, instead of being so bland. They just read each other’s thoughts and started going out. Also there were a lot of missing words in some of the sentences, which is a pet peeve of mine. There would be sentences, like on page 133, 4th paragraph in the 3rd sentence, it says, “Now allow your emotions flow freely.” But it’s missing the word to, and mistakes like this were scattered throughout the novel. Another problem I had with it was how quickly Dylan was to join the angels. He just went along with whatever Ki said, and never doubted or questioned him. There was no conflict in his decision making; he just jumped in with both feet immediately. I feel like there is a lot of promise in the next book, the possibilities in the story plot are endless, and I can’t wait to see how the second book will improve now that the author has some experience.

The story has a lot of promise. YA readers will like it a lot - recommend for them.
Overall I liked it - note, I'm an adult reader.
It leaves you with a decent lead into a book 2, but completes enough in book 1 that you don't feel cheated that the story continues into a book 2.
The story is a little slow, but for a YA book it is filled with good warm and fuzzy, "young love" moments that keep you reading.
Note for the Writer - the front of the book is well edited, but the back half of the book could use another go over for perfection. The average reader won't probably notice anything, but as an editor it ruffled my feathers more and more as I got further into the book.
