There is a conspiracy afoot, one involving some of the most dangerous people on the planet. A network of organized serial killers exists; Aislinn Cain and the SCTU have found evidence of it. Yet, they have very few leads.
Until the serial killers go on the offensive and Aislinn Cain wakes up to find herself living her worst fears. They have stormed the Federal Offices where Nyleena Clachan works and staged an uprising within the serial killer prison, The Fortress.
To bring an end to this madness and find out who is behind it all, sacrifices will have to be made. The costs will be high as Aislinn and the team go up against some of the baddest serial killers that exist.
Hadena James began writing at the age of eight. As a teenager, she had several short stories published in literary magazines. She completed writing her first novel at the age of 17. Hadena graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in European History with minors in German and Russian studies. She has always wanted to be a writer so she also took several classes in creative writing.
Hadena’s primary literary genre is action/thriller. She currently writes two series, both use action/thriller. “The Brenna Strachan Series” uses fantasy and the “Dreams & Reality Series” uses murder mystery as its secondary genre. She continues to explore and expand her writing and hopes to soon produce a comedic action/thriller.
When she isn’t busy writing or running her business, Hadena enjoys playing in a steel-tip dart league. She also loves to travel throughout North America and Europe. Her favorite cities are Chicago, Illinois and Berlin, Germany. She is an avid reader, reading everything from the classics like Jane Austen to modern writers like Terry Pratchett. One of her all-time favorite books is “Good Omens” by Neil Gaimen and Terry Pratchett. She writes all of her books while listening to music and the bands tend to get “honorable mentions” within the pages.
This was the most difficult book I have ever written in the Dreams & Reality series. It is complex and at times, a little confusing. New good guys get introduced. New bad guys crop up. Plus, most of it happens in the space of a single day, spent inside the Fortress... which means a lot of serial killers, mass murderers, and spree killers to fill up twenty or so normal Dreams novels.
There are also some new background tidbits given. Conspiracies are a central theme of the book. The reader will begin to realize just how complicated creating the SCTU & VCU really was. And that some things have been in the works for decades.
Also, there is the return of Patterson. Aislinn Cain and Malachi Blake can't enter the Fortress without running into Patterson Clachan, what kind of world would that be? Plus, the readers will finally get a good glimpse of Eric Clachan. After all, he killed for one sister, he would definitely stand by his other sister's side as she and the SCTU/VCU attempted to take back control from the prisoners.
However, what I'm most excited about is the revelation of Fiona's character. She has been one that has had to grow on Aislinn and readers. Now, the readers will fully understand why she is sometimes antagonistic of Aislinn.
This is my favorite book to date. I hope the readers enjoy it just as much (and as usual, some questions will be answered, some will not... There are more Dreams novels to come and I can't give away all the secrets at one time).
With each addition to the Reality & Dreams series I become even more impatient for the next installment. Hadena James has created intriguing story lines using characters that are engaging and sympathetic...which is even more amazing because characters with Aislin, Malachi, Green, and Patterson's mental, emotional, and social issues should be anything but attractive.
I could write a ton about what I loved about Fortified Dreams, but really, it should all be summed up as: write more. Give me more of this story to read as soon as humanly possible. I stop midbook to read this series when I realize a new book is out. I don't do that. I am an obsessive finisher of books. I will go back and reread the entire series over again to make sure I pick up all the connections and everything is fresh and simply for pure pleasure. Please, give me more.
I very rarely purchase books, but I have bought ALL of these books. The author has a way of pulling you in and next thing you know you are standing with Ace, Xavier, Gabriel and the rest of the team. There are times that Ace explains things for the other characters and I have never thought of it as wordy or unnecessary. I have been recommending this series to everyone.
I love this series, and this may be the best book in it so far! The Fortress has been taken and it’s up to the SCTU and the VCU to get it back! Marshall’s teaming up with loyal psychopaths! And the entire books takes place inside of a single day! This one is Aislinn Cain at her best!
Another great book by Hadena James! I love the direction of this one as the investigators faced a new problem with a group of organized serial killers and the fall of the Fortress. I loved reading this, continuing to turn the pages throughout the book. Looking forward to the next one here soon.
This one was really good although I think I could play a drinking game using the word psychopath from the pages of this novel😊 Looking forward to the next one.
BY FAR MY FAVORITE D&R BOOK TO DATE!! Oh my, I can't even begin to think of my favorite parts of this book but suffice to say, I love when Ace is just getting to be a bad ass and showing the world just how crazy and scary she is. I also enjoyed getting to know Fiona more and finding out some of her backstory as well. Patterson never disappoints and I loved getting to see interaction with Eric and Ace; because her memories of him are so good and so few. I knew Hunter was a POS all they way back in Butchered Dreams (i think that was it). So glad he was finally outed and ousted at the same time! I have only started to read one of the Dysfunctional books but with the tie ins here, I'm going to have to get into those. I enjoyed meeting some of their characters as well. While I usually re-read the entire series every time a new book comes out, sometimes, because I love it so much, I reread Fortified Dreams all by itself.

My favourite Dreams book so far. A lot happened in a short space of time, and in parts it felt a bit much but the characters in this were great. I don't think you can read these books looking for believability and if you just let yourself get immersed in the story it is a really great read. Aislinn is a bad ass and in this she just excels at it. The focus on her brother and grandfather just enhance her brilliant craziness. I loved reading all the characters and as with each book I read in this series I cannot wait until the next one!
These books were like "Criminal Minds" on steroids. All the characters worked well together. By being told in the first person you become totally immersed in the lives of the characters. The books don't get boring or predictable after the first one. They keep you wanting more. I am really sorry that I just finished reading the last one. Hadena James did a great job pulling you in and keeping it interesting.
How often are the good guys the "crazy" people? I have been reading this series for years, and I am very excited to read the next two books this week--I just reread the last few chapters of this novel to remind myself where I left these friends, and it all came back--after a couple-year break from the story. Interesting plots and great characters make this series well worth following! Word up!
wow. can't wait for the sequel. you'll never guess who wants the SCTU and the VCU dismantled and the Fortress dismantled and serial killers and mass murderers set free. Not in a million years. this plotting goes back many years and has resulted in many police, marshalls and other federal officers dead or crippled....violent beyond belief, just a touch insane...*retead, april, 2017. Still waiting for the sequel but the new series about how the SCTU got started is pretty good. Write faster, Hadena
I can't believe how quick I read your books they are awesome!! I can't wait f I r the next book I hope its soon. This book was amazing from the start and had you hooked from the get go!!!
I absolutely love this author and her books in this series, I honestly can't wait for the next in the series. This book is a whirlwind of action from start to finish, developing characters we all know and love (and some we don't!) Carry on the good work!
