Seventeen-year-old Cara Tillman is in more danger than ever.

All around her, Cara’s fellow Phoenixes are being attacked. With no other choice, she and her group take the only option they have—call more Phoenixes out of hiding and wage an all-out war against the Hunters. But with the lines of loyalty blurred, and Phoenix secrets to be kept, there’s no guarantee anyone can be trusted.

Logan Schmidt walks the blade of love and obligation—and just one slip may end them all.

After stealing the Phoenix dagger and going into hiding, the Hunters are convinced Logan is one of their own. But with Cara’s memories recovered, her heart is set on Logan’s return. The problem is, she may be the only one who trusts him.

It isn’t long until Logan’s disappearance is noticed by his long-time friend, Anton Botas, who is more than just an outsider. Though Logan trusts him, the Phoenixes do not, opening yet another fault line in their plans.

Where there is one, there are many.

Determined to end this once and for all, Cara and the others must destroy the Phoenix daggers—the only weapons able to kill her kind. But in a raging battle, Cara learns the awful truth about the relics. Destroying them may destroy the Phoenixes in the process.

Can Cara and her friends end this war, or is their future destined to go Up In Flames?

Kelly Hashway fully admits to being one of the most accident-prone people on the planet, but that didn’t stop her from jumping out of an airplane at ten thousand feet one Halloween. Maybe it was growing up reading R.L. Stine’s Fear Street books that instilled a love of all things scary and a desire to live in a world filled with supernatural creatures, but she spends her days writing speculative fiction for young adults, middle graders, and young children. Kelly is also USA Today bestselling romance author Ashelyn Drake. When she’s not writing, Kelly works as an editor and also as Mom, which she believes is a job title that deserves to be capitalized.

Recapping quickly from my prior reviews, I'm about 20-25 years past the target audience but enjoyed this series for the RL Stine nostalgia it drummed up. I gave the first two books 4 stars, but this one was a slog. I don't know if I just finally tired of the nostalgia or if it was something this book directly did, but I felt like we were trapped in an endless loop of meetings, characters turning red, burning things, setting things on fire, punching each other, threatening each other, sneaking out, getting caught, and repeating the cycle. Mrs. Tillman continued to be one-dimensional, Logan and Cara's dialogue seemed to be on repeat, and I appreciate the attempt at a dun-dun-dun mystery reveal, but it didn't seem inspired. I also get what the author was going for with the theme of the ending, but the book just stops. We don't get conclusion to some character arcs, which reinforced that they were always meant to be set dressing.

Two great not-supposed-to-laugh moments. Mrs. Tillman can't heal Anton through the plate in his head. Did it not occur to her to stand on the other side and try from the other direction?

Also, she's on leave from work, but she's going to go to the hospital and do cranial surgery with a high risk of death without reason and doesn't expect anyone there to notice?

Let's not even discuss that neither can die while the other lives or whatever such nonsense.

The most generous 3 star review I have ever given. 2 stars are for offensively bad, and this author held me for 600 pages on nostalgia and clearly had good intentions. It didn't work for me, but I'm not who she was writing for. 3 it is.

The truth is that the author did not know how to give this last book a great turn.
Although the story is about Logan and Cara, here I take strength and character from the other characters.
There were surprising things like Anton, but the appearance of Anthony did not have the desired effect for me.
At least now they will have a full life together.
I would have liked an epilogue with a near future.

Really great

Really great series. Some twists & turns I didn’t see coming. Others I thought were going to happen then thought they weren’t & then thought they did again.

Are people in this book okay?!?!?!

Like. Seriously at this point I don’t know anything at all.

Ok, I already saw the plot twist before I even began this book. I was kinda upset that there was no sign of it happening until it did. The problem is that THEY ALL SHOULD HAVE KNOWN!!! Last book it was all about how you can’t trust anybody, and now anyone can walk in, name one characteristic of the phoenixes and get it the group? I’m disappointed on the characters, if you were really into the mess all along you would have known better than to let a random stranger walk in like nothing. Even the adults are clueless in here.

The trilogy on itself wasn’t bad, the idea was really good and if it wasn’t because every single character here thinks they know everything it could have been amazing.

Either way, I like how this writer writes. If you’re looking for something that’s a light read this trilogy it’s definitely for you.

Having passed through the fires of these three books, reeling through a twisty-turny rollercoaster of a ride, I'm still in shock as the embers cool in the aftermath of book three. Over the course of three books, Hashway weaves a lore of Phoenixes and Hunters, predators after a prey whose essence gives the gift of longer life.

In book one, the story centers on Cara, who watches her brother's rebirth and struggles to face her own. She meets Logan, and the two fall so instantly in love, it may be something stronger, like an imprint. The question is: can their love survive Cara's rebirth? And who is it who's out to kill Cara and steal her essence?

Book two picks up where book one leaves off, this time centering the story on Logan, and with Cara's rebirth, they must either learn to fall in love all over again, or face the fact the love they had died on the ash heap of Cara's rebirth. On top of this, a new wave of Hunters will stop at nothing to claim as many Phoenix essences as possible. Cara is determined to do something about it, but so is Logan. Will Logan's new-found talent drive a blade between Cara and him, or can they find a way to rekindle a love that seems doomed from the start?

Finally, Hashway does it again with Up In Flames, delivering all the best aspects of books one and two, yet, giving it twists so unexpected, you'll think you've been stabbed by a phoenix blade yourself. Books one and two parallel each other in incredible, nuanced ways. But when I saw how Hashway basically deconstructed everything from the first two books, and reconstructed them for book three, I was gobsmacked. The stakes from book one and two are nothing compared to the battle waged in book three.

Gathering as many phoenixes as they can, Cara and her family seek to end the battle between Hunter and Phoenix once and for all. What she doesn't know is what it will cost her with lives lost, and more on the line. While Cara tries to protect her friends and family, those closest to her have the most to lose. As lines of trust and betrayal become taut, anyone could prove to be a liability, including Logan. Especially Logan.

As I read my way through, my stomach was in knots, and I found myself reeling as revelation after revelation was revealed. My only regret is, now that it's over, I want more stories from the characters I've become attached to. This seies will not disappoint. Chocked full (overflowing in some parts) of kissing and more, you'll wonder how they find time to make out when there's danger around every corner. I look forward to reading the entire series again. Highly, highly recommended. 5 out of 5 shrieking phoenix cries. Just you wait until the ending!

Up in Flames was a whirlwind ending to the Into the Fire series. Though if I was going to describe this novel, I would almost say this book is divided equally into two parts. The first being about how the Phoenixes had to finally face their Hunters, and the second being about the daggers, their origin, and how to destroy them.

I have to say the most enjoyable part was having Anton around for a change. Actually, I was very excited. I always felt that character had more potential to grow into something more than just a supportive role. Which he did. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in him as well. Anton, Anton. I thought you could be a better man, but you are still the louse.

What was also interesting about this book was that the phoenix daggers had a Lord of the Ring vibe to them. “Two daggers to rule them all.” It intrigued me how they could control the Hunters’ will, including Logan’s. It was very Sauron and the one ring. There was just two things that nagged me about the daggers and the one who crafted them. The first was the fact I couldn’t get a real sense of the size of the daggers. One minute, they could run a human completely through, much like the medieval daggers, and the next, they seemed no bigger than something that could kill a small animal or bird, like a common hunting knife. The second was how much guess work the characters had to figure who the creator was.

Logan definitely had a stronger role in this novel as well. Though I think Cara came on top in terms of what she had to sacrifice to save him and the other Phoenixes. Also, he wasn’t very confident in his ability. Maybe if gotten a little more training as well with the dagger. Personally, if I was going to cross over universes here, a character like Oliver Queen probably would have worked wonders in Logan’s training, and even help him master the dagger’s mind control. Unfortunately, the best character that could actually train him didn’t last very long—even though I didn’t like him, he could have stuck around just a little bit longer.

I’m sad to see this series end, especially when the actual ending left my emotions torn between loving it and hating it. It was definitely bitter sweet, but was Cara’s sacrifice really necessary? I guess for the story it was, but I keep feeling it could have been approached differently.

ir future destined to go Up In Flames?

My review
Wow!!! This was a beautifully epic ending to this trilogy! I really wasn't sure who the bad guy would turn out to be. I had one suspicion which turned out right and another that was completely off! We are down to the nitty gritty here. Cara and Logan must find a way to save themselves and everyone around them from the hunters who want to kill the Phoenixes! And this was a freaking awesome way to do it!
I won't lie, it's not all happy. We lost someone I'm still a little heart broken over. But we lost the bad guy and I'm seriously wowed with how that went down. Cara and Logan proved to be a magnificent couple and we even get to see Jeremy and Elisa, their mom, finally accept Logan. I also thought that it was going to be different. I was almost fooled on the best friend front. I can't explain that without spoilers. Cara and Logan have grown so much as characters and I'm thrilled to say I never doubted them or their love for each other.
The writing is flawless and I'm so happy to say that ms Hashway does a superb job tying it all nice and up in a pretty bow! Well, with some blood spilled along the way! I was so honored to not only be a part of her super cool street team but also to get an ARC for review! I have loved every single moment of this trilogy and I seriously hope Ms H finds a way to continue it, even with a spin off! I'd love to see Jeremy or even Rachel get stories! :) or a later HEA with Cara and Logan! Anyway, I think this has been such a fun, unique, creative adventure and I recommend everyone pick up this series!! 5 PHENOMENONAL FIERY PAWS!!!

Kelly Hashway has created such lovable and realistic characters in this series. This novel was a great end to the Into The Fire trilogy, though I am so very sad to see it end. I always have trouble saying good bye to characters in novels that I really connect with. Hashway has created a world so powerful that I’m sure I will be rereading this series again in the future, and that the characters will never be too far from my mind. Not only did I love Cara and Logan, but I also loved the minor characters. There were times when I literally laughed out loud, especially when Rachel was involved.

In the final installment of this series, a huge secret from the beginning is revealed (which I can happily say that I saw coming), and my favorite couple gets their happy ending after all. I wish that it didn’t have to end, but the ending was very well thought out and I am so pleased with how it ended. This entire series was well planned, and executed flawlessly from the writing, plot, and twists, all the way to the beautiful covers that tied the series together with one perfect bow. Hashway has created a fan for life in me, and I will be scouring the shelves for any other novels by her.

Cara is a phoenix who can have up to five lives. She was already reborn in a previous book. The phoenixes around her are all on different lives, some on their last and some on their fourth, and so on. With vicious hunters out to get them, kill them, and steal their essence, all the phoenixes come together…and some of them might have to sacrifice their lives in order to get rid of the hunters and their lethal daggers.

There’s a lot of intrigue about whom to trust and distrust. There’s Logan, who’s human and her protector, as well as their group of friends. There are even some phoenixes who are questionable. Someone is spying on them and wanting to have their phoenix community crumble to ashes, and Cara and Logan have to fight for everyone’s safety.

Book one and two were amazing, but I found book three was the most intense with more twists and turns. Cara and Logan always had a deep romance, but more is put to the test here, with possibilities of gaining or losing everything on an individual as well as group basis. I highly recommend this series for YA and paranormal lovers.

Cara's second life has been a huge battle - one that could mean life or death for Cara and all of the other Phoenixes. With new knowledge, new friends, and new enemies, this series wraps up with a lot of surprises and a lot of emotions.

Cara is still defending her boyfriend, Logan, at almost every turn. When the heat is turned up on the Phoenxes, emotions run high, everyone is on edge, and danger lurks in the most surprising places.

Don't walk - RUN! - to grab your copy of this book. It's a sequel you don't want to miss this exciting conclusion!

Hashway gives a wonderful ending to the Into the Fire triogly with Up in Flames. Although some of the story was easy to figure out before the details were revealed, there were still enough twists in the storyline to keep me hooked. I also loved that there was closure for the main characters but still a chance to branch off if Hashway wants. Again, fans of Twilight will really enjoy this series.
