Melanie Scott is an unrepentant bookworm. Luckily she grew up in a family that fed her a properly varied diet of books and these days is surrounded by people who are understanding of her story addiction. When not wrestling one of her own stories to the ground, she can generally be found reading someone else’s. Her other distractions include yarn, cat butlering, dark chocolate and fabric. She lives in Melbourne, Australia. Her website is www.mjscott.net.

She also writes romantic fantasy and urban fantasy as M.J. Scott. www.mjscott.net.

Sadly she is not the Melanie Scott who authors stuff about the Marvel Universe (because that sounds fun!), or journals. Sometimes that Melanie's books get added to her profile by folks...but she didn't write them.

2.5 - "You can't please everybody." Stars.

It always saddens me when I read a book that starts out as potentially a 5 star read, and then gradually dies a slow death because of a trope/character that has every last drop wrung from it, to an extent that it detracts from the story.

”It takes more than a little tequila and a Neanderthal to make me feel under the weather.”

I was really enjoying The Devil in Denim, great start, excellent chemistry, and a good spin on a sports romance. I could understand why Maggie would feel aggrieved at having her dream job ripped out of her hands due to her father selling the team, and I really liked the verbal and sexy sparring that the sale bought about with her and Alex Winters, one third of the new owners of the New York Saints Baseball Team.

”Even saints can be pushed too far.”

Unfortunately, what started as enjoyable and understandable, turned into annoying and dislikeable as it was constantly replayed as the book progressed. The storyline isn’t massively technical you know what is going to happen, and can guess how it’s going to end. I didn’t mind that, but what killed my enjoyment completely were the spoiled, selfish, immature and repetitive actions of Maggie Jameson. The whole ’Inner Psychologist’ thing got really annoying too, as well as her constant acting out to provoke a reaction, then getting pissed when it wasn't the response she was looking for.

So to sum up, I am going to quote the hero of the piece, who quite frankly deserved a medal for putting up with the heroine the author unfortunately paired him with, because I would have kicked her to the kerb at about 70%!

”Stop acting like a spoiled rich girl who has always gotten what she wants and stop and think about what’s best for them. Try some loyalty to your team.”

This is my first book by Melanie Scott, and I did like the writing style and the storyline. The rest of the characters were pretty easy to get along with as well. I just think I had a personality clash with Maggie. It hasn’t deterred me from reading the next book in the series Angel in Armani. When you have three guys lustily summed up as –

”McBoss, McDoc, and McMystery.”

You know there is potential for a great read still to come.

This is a contemporary romance debut from Melanie Scott, who is otherwise known in a different genre (urban fantasy) as M.J. Scott. For a debut, I thought this book was pretty well-written, especially when it came to describing the business behind running a sports team. On the romance front, however, I admit I was a bit of on the fence about it.

All right, let me try to explain my like/dislike thoughts on this. Let’s start with what I really enjoyed from the book.

Alex Winters. Oh, yes, I couldn’t really find any faults with this man *laugh*. From the moment he walked into the bar and approached Maggie who was drowning her sorrow with tequila, I just liked him right off the bat. I thought Alex had what it takes to be both a passionate charming man when it came to romancing the girl, while at the same time, being a very good clearheaded businessman when it came to business. He was particularly good in presenting his case when he needed to explain why he (and his friends) wanted to save the New York Saints. Was Alex a devil like Maggie thought? Well, he was definitely an angelic devil in my book *grin*

I also liked the ‘back-stage’ nature of the sports presented here. This book was definitely more about what happened off-field, the stories about the ‘suits’ rather than the players. This included how Alex and his best friends, Lucas and Mal, took a look around the stadium, assessing the security aspect, and even cozying up the players to smooth the buy. It might not be an action-wise sports book, but nonetheless, it was still engaging for me.

Now, let’s talk about what I didn’t truly enjoy…

Character-wise, I found it rather difficult to sympathize with Maggie. At first, I could understand her being hurt with the decision that her father made. I would probably feel the same thing if I were someone who was very passionate into the team like Maggie was. However, over the course of the book, Maggie ended up being rather immature in my eyes. It was clear that her father and Alex didn’t yet trust her capability as a CEO; she was green and she didn’t really have the experience to be on the cut-throat deal side of business. For me, Maggie didn’t really do anything to prove that she was more than just the ex-owner’s daughter. She let emotions get ahead of cool-head and calculated thoughts.

There was one time – after the threat coming from a Texas businessman to contest Alex’s buy – that I thought would be a perfect time for Maggie to show everyone wrong, to come out with a proposal to work things through and counter the proposition, but nope, that didn’t happen. In fact, again, she showed that she let her feelings take over her brain. It was rather disappointing.

I also didn’t particularly enjoy how the potential threat was solved – Maggie called it a “hardball” move, but I’d like to call it cheap and an easy-way to deal with the problem. It felt abrupt in a deux-es-machina kind of away. It made me feel like the author herself didn’t know how to get out of the problem she created for the team.

Last but not least, well, I wasn’t 100% convinced with Alex and Maggie’s romance in the end. I thought the middle part was quite enjoyable, they did have great banter moments, and it seemed they were moving at the right pace. However, after the threat was introduced, the romance ended as abruptly as the ‘hardball’ move decision to save the team. I guess I would need more chapters to tie things up. I didn’t need an “I love you” moment – the lack of it was actually in tune with the nature of the story, but I wanted a tidier ending, I guess.

However, overall, I enjoyed the book and the introduction to the cast of characters. It was a good set up, and it made me feel involved with New York Saints and their new bosses. I am particularly happy to know that the second book of this series is coming soon (in December). I’m reserving my ticket to read that one.

My Review:
I'll be honest, this is one of those books that I probably never would have noticed without that incredible cover. Several months ago, I spotted it on Amazon and when I saw that it was a sports-themed book, I pre-ordered a print copy on the spot. I've never read this author, but the combination of that gorgeous cover and baseball convinced me. Fast-forward about a month...and the author had ARC's of this book at RWA. Even though I'd pre-ordered it already, I snatched it up...hoping that it would be a good one to review.

It wasn't a good one...it was a GREAT ONE! OMG, I loved this book...not only is it pretty, but damn, the story is really good too!

Maggie literally grew up with the Saints, a third NYC baseball team that her father owns in this fictional world. She grew up with the team and always knew that someday she'd take over for her father. So, it's a huge surprise for her that right after she graduates from college that her dad has decided to sell the team to the trio of Alex, Mal, and Lucas.

Alex, Mal, and Lucas have a long history behind them. They played baseball together in college, until a horrible tragedy took the game away from them. Since then, they've left the game, but all three have become highly successful businessmen. They want the Saints and the owner has accepted their offer, but in major league sports, it's not that easy. They need the owners to agree to the sale and that requires the aid of Saint Maggie...the girl who grew up as the darling of baseball.

There is a lot going on in this story. Not only is the team trying to adjust to the change in ownership, but the new owners are getting their feet wet, too...both with the team and the union. Maggie is not happy with the change in circumstances, but she can't do anything about it. The Saints are still her family and she wants to do everything she can to keep them intact, so she just sucks it up. But complicating that is her love/hate chemistry with Alex. She wants to hate him for what he's taken from her, but the more she works with him and his partners, the more she respects them all. But that doesn't mean it's a good idea to sleep with him...he's her new boss. And then just as they are all settling into their roles, everything changes. Wow...

Loved, loved, LOVED this book. It had everything....a great story, sexy hunky trio of guys, an off the charts sizzling romance, and tons of emotion tying it all together. The book starts off with a bang and I didn't want to put it down the rest of the way through. It's high-drama and high-suspense...just in that the story is so good and so riveting. I HIGHLY recommend it and can't wait for book #2, The Angel in Armani coming out in January. My only question now is who is the hero of that book...Mal or Lucas? Either way, I can't wait!

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, but I pre-ordered a copy of it, too...so I really am just a reader/fangirl.

I don't often read mainstream contemporary romance, but this whole year I've been trying to read outside my normal genres. So when I saw this book at the library, I wanted to give it a try. It's the story of Maggie who has been destined to take over her dad's baseball team from birth - until he decides to sell it to someone else. That someone else is Alex (together with his two best friends, also bachelors and no doubt coming back in sequels to this book). Obviously, Maggie and Alex end up together - it is a romance after all.

I liked the setting in a baseball team, even though there wasn't as much baseball as I had hoped. But other than that, it was all pretty predictable. It baffled me even at the end of the book why Maggie's dad would sell the team without telling her. That part made no sense at all.

My other biggest issue was that I felt nothing much happened. Maggie and Alex talked, they go to some parties, they talk, they have sex of course, and that's it. Their romance itself felt underdeveloped, like they could also have not ended up with each other. Plus both characters were hard to like. Maggie who can't get over Alex buying the team when it's clearly her dad who is at fault and Alex is is simply too perfect to be true. Where are his faults? Nope, didn;t work for me...

Loved this sexy & spicy sports romance. From the moment Alex Winters takes over Maggie Jameson's family baseball business sparks fly...but as much as she wants to see the back of him, he's going nowhere. When their chemistry explodes, she's caught between a rock and a hard place. Maggie has to decide what she loves most...and who or what she wants most...

I picked this book to read and review based on the cover alone, when I requested it there was no synopsis available but I am so glad I asked for it because The Devil in Denim is a baseball related story looking at a very different side of the game. This was a romance at its finest; an intriguing plot that had me wondering the outcome the whole time, some conflict but not so much it drags the book down and some sexy fun that caused a ruckus. To top it off a whole slew of very interesting and entertaining characters that added so much to an already excellent story. Melanie Scott is a new to me author but I am already anticipating the next book in this series.
Alex Winters knows the move he and his partners have made to acquire the New York Saints baseball team won’t be popular with a lot of people but he knows they will be good for the team. What he doesn’t count on is that Maggie Jameson, the previous owner’s daughter, will be one of his biggest obstacles nor does he understand the intense attraction he feels towards her. I really kind of felt bad for Alex because all he wanted to do was own a team that he had loved for years and then when he realizes that the owner never shared his plans to sell with his daughter who intended to one day take over the team until the meeting where they sign the contracts and she’s devastated. I also felt bad for Maggie who was blindsided by her father and felt that she was not only losing a job she’d wanted most of her life but a huge piece of her life as well.
Alex is one of those heroes that I love because he goes after what he wants, he makes decisions rationally, and he is so level headed even when people around him or not. I liked Maggie and I know we didn’t see her at her best for most of the book because her life had been turned upside down. I was really thankful for her friends who were there to help her see all sides of a situation and to kind of give her a slap upside the head when she let her emotional side affect her business side.
There were several obstacles in the way of Alex and his team taking over the Saints and that made this book very interesting and entertaining to someone who loves the sport so much. While this was a large part of the book, we also get little glimpses of Alex’s partners (their books will come out in the next year) and the growing connection between Alex and Maggie. There’s someone from Maggie’s past that also rears his ugly head to make waves which adds even more excitement to a very full story.
An outstanding plot, extremely likable characters, and some hot sexy lovin’ made The Devil In Denim one fantastic story. I already have the release date of Angel in Armani on my calendar as I can’t wait to see what happens next.
*One small reviewers note: Melanie Scott is Australian so there are a few instances in this book where she uses words or sayings that are not typical in America. It didn’t take away from the story and because I read a lot of Aussie authors it didn’t bother me but for someone isn’t aware they might find this a bit strange.

This one has been in my tbr list forever and tonight I decided was the night to check it out. Turns out there was a reason it lingered for a long time. I found myself bored from the start. Early on I guessed why the team was sold. It was sort of fun to watch Maggie get mad, but it also seemed like she was throwing a temper tantrum, much like a kid that doesn't get her way. After 50 pages I realized I didn't care enough to see her learn the owner's secrets, to see them work together to make the team better or to see the romance happen. This one just wasn't for me.

Maggie Jameson always thought she’d take over the family’s baseball franchise until The Devil in Denim smashed her dreams.

You know the saying, there is a fine line between love and hate, well Maggie’s and Alex’s relationship shouldn’t actually be categorized as hate, but highly confrontational, most definitely. The chemistry is explosive between Alex and Maggie; they just need to learn to work together for the team to be a success.

Both are extremely attracted to each other, but Maggie tries to maintain a working/professional relationship at least in the public eye. Two type A personalities, with one always giving in, doesn’t really work, so I was surprised by how much “crow” Maggie accepted to make things work, and not just with Alex. Maggie seemed to be hit with a series of unfortunate events syndrome, but pulled herself through it quite satisfactorily.

The Devil in Denim was an entertaining romance with enough chemistry to grab your attention. I found The Devil in Denim to be a pleasant, funny, quick, and easy read, 3.5 Stars.

I mostly read this because I really loved The Shattered Court written by the same author under the name MJ Scott and the sequel is taking its time coming out. But this didn't work for me.

For starters, the couple's first interaction is him carrying her out of the bar. Like, he's supposedly looking after her safety BUT HE IS STILL A STRANGER.

And, really, what her father did, selling the team without any warning, WAS AWFUL. Maybe needed, but YOU DON'T DO THAT. She literally went to school to take over. TALK TO HER.

Also, I didn't buy that she wouldn't have known about the hero's baseball past if she'd done all that research on him.

I do give the ending points. Also it was mostly about the business side of baseball, which I don't know a ton about it, so I didn't have too many nitpicks. (Except for when there was a throwaway comment about the Blue Jays moving!)

The Devil in Denim was an enjoyable read.

Maggie and Alex were likable characters and the storyline held my attention.
They had great chemistry, just wished we got a little more in the end, felt a little rushed.

I enjoyed Melanie Scott's writing, looking forward to reading more in the future.
Can't wait to read Lucas and Mal's stories.

Thank you Netgalley and to St. Martin's Press for the advance copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.

The Devil in Denim is Melanie Scott’s Debut novel to the Contemporary Genre. I didn’t know when I picked up this book, but Scott is also known as the paranormal romance writer, M.J. Scott. I’ve never read any of those books, but I can tell you this, writing contemporary was a great decision. The Devil in Denim is an awesome start to the New York Saints series.

Maggie Jameson was primed and ready to take over her dad’s position to lead her favorite baseball team, the Saints. Unfortunately, her dad had other ideas. Instead of passing on the torch to his daughter, he had sold the team to Alex Winters and his close friends, Mal and Lucas. Crushed by this decision, she is still willing to do anything to support her team. The question is, how will she survive working with a man who is equally attracted to her as she is to him?

I picked this book to help with my UTC Reading Challenge for the “hot jocks” category. It was a perfect pick as Melanie Scott not only covered the business aspects of baseball; she didn’t forget to load it with hot athletic men! First man up… Alex Winters.

I really like Alex. He is smart, sexy, and he knows how to go for what he wants. I love that he had his eye on Maggie and pursued her accordingly. Maggie, on the other hand, well, she had her head on straight, but she showed some immaturity in this story. There were times when she acted like a douche towards Alex. I wasn’t particularly fond of her during those times. Given her situation, I guess I can understand but still. Overall, their romance was sweet, and they had a few sexy scenes I enjoyed. I most definitely enjoyed Alex’s romantic streak.

I thought Scott’s mixture of business and pleasure was well-done. I really liked that she emphasized on the backdrop of the sport. My only complaint about the book is Maggie’s inner therapist. I thought that part could’ve been taken out, and the book would still be good. It's easily overlooked I suppose. It certainly will not hold me back from reading the next installment of this series. In fact, I’m excited to get my hands on Angel in Armani, which releases end of December. I’m betting that Scott will be all warmed up with her contemporary writing skills.

Maggie Jameson is dealing with the biggest shock of her life. Her father just sold the New York Saints to Alex Winters. Her lifelong dream of running the team with her father is instantly crushed as the news washes over her. The betrayal and bitter sting is a hard pill to swallow but Alex’s next step is even worst.

Alex and his partners think buying the Saints is a good move. They are corporate sharks and if anyone can save the money losing team, it is them. However, getting the team to go in the direction that they want is another story. The one person who can help smooth the way is Maggie or Saint Maggie as the world dubs her. The problem is that she sees him as the devil. He needs to convince her to work for him. The days are getting longer and the nights are starting to heat up when the two come together.

The pacing of the story at times is a bit slow and I struggle to get through some of it. At first, there is nothing happening except for the fact that Maggie struggles with her attraction for Alex despite hating the fact that he snatches her dreams of taking over the team. She eventually caves in but starts the inner fight of her decision for dating someone she works with. I have a hard time with this at that point because I wanted Maggie to get out of her own way.

I love Alex. He is a quiet Alpha at the core. He is strong and assertive. He gently pushes Maggie in the direction that he wanted. I love that is not forceful but he gets the point across because she is feisty and tries to fight him every step of the way.

The story picks up as they find their way through their attraction for one another. I enjoy Alex’s no-nonsense dialogue and his gentle prodding. Maggie learns to trust him and that he is a man of his word. He has the best intentions for her despite her own misgivings.

Another bid for the team comes in and Alex makes sure she knows that she can trust him to keep the team going. Though I’m not a big sports fan, which is why I don’t always gravitate towards sports romance, this book kept me interested. It was more about the administrative/background areas of the sports world.

I look forward to reading the next book. All of the team owners are hot and I can’t wait to meet the other two leading ladies.

REVIEW

This book is packed to the rim with baseball and romance. With her dad selling the team, and in the process breaking her hearts and dreams to shreds, Maggie has a degree and nothing to manage. Enter the new owner, Alex. A man with secrets and two equally as hot best friends who is now running the team that Maggie has always dreamed of managing. The team is more than money to her. The team is family. She feels threatened with the prospect that her family might be taken away from her. And she’s prepared to fight tooth and nail for what she believes. Now if only she was just as good at resisting the former baseball players good looks and charm. . .

This book man. For me, it’s a solid 3.5 because of the characters. I liked all of the characters (WAGS, Maggie, Alex, the boys) okay, but the only one that I actually really liked was Alex. He was the most relatable. And, fine, I could totally jump his bones. I mean *fans self* who wouldn’t? Maggie annoyed me a bit. This is going to sounds horrible. But. She was too emotional. She was like a dog with a bone regarding her desire to be CEO of the Saints. It made her act like, well, a bitch at times. And it made me feels bad for Alex because she was SO hot and cold.

The baseball aspect. I expected more I guess. We don’t get to see the game at all. I mean it wasn’t season yet but they practice right? Or am I totally crazy…? Also, we meet one player. Ollie. I wanted to see the team more and hear what they thought with all the changes going on. For someone who grew up with the Saints, I expected Maggie to interact with the players more. I don’t know…go out for pizza?

DEVIL IN DENIM was is nice read where books are concerned. The plot was good and kept me interested in the book: business deals and office romance. I’ve seen a few reviews complaining about the ending. People saying they wanted “I love yous” but I have to say, I am SO GLAD there were none. That would have made it feel rushed. I can’t wait to read the next few books in the series!

This one was just meh for me. I couldn't get into the characters nor did the story really do it for me. Maggie's dad has always owned the Saints baseball team and she grew up with the Saints as always part of her life. When she gets back from college to find that her dad has sold the team it devastates her as she envisioned herself as the next CEO. He's sold it to a group of 3 men who are all good friends from college. One of them, Alex, is clearly the "leader" and is managing the team. Immediately Alex and Maggie are too attracted to each other, even though Maggie deems Alex "the devil." The main conflict in the story is that Maggie doesn't want to take a lower position when she's had her sights set on CEO for so long yet doesn't want to leave the team...leading to her having a personal crisis of what she should do with her career and her attraction to her potential new boss.

I love baseball so I thought this would be a home run for sure (pun intended) :) but Maggie came across as a winy child too many times in the story for my liking. Boo-hoo, you don't get appointed to CEO and have to maybe actually work for it. She filed papers for the team in high school and thought that would count as putting in the hard work. To me it just felt like her personal "crisis" for what to do with her career was a bit pretentious to be a real conflict to focus so much of the story around. She was given a high ranking job with the new owners but it wasn't good enough for her and she was too proud to go to a minor league team she could be a manager and learn the basics. The story also starts off with Alex and his friends in a fire and while it was a good intro that really grabbed my attention, it didn't play into the story at all which was disappointing. The only reference is later in the book he says, "I want friends who will run into a fire for me"...and to Maggie this is somehow profound and surprising but it felt a bit like nonsense. Was it supposed to show how fickle and afraid to commit he is?

Overall this was between 2-2 ½ stars from me.

This is the first Melanie Scott book that I have read, but I will be reading more.

The Devil In Denim had me in from the first chapter, and had my heart breaking for the main character Maggie right from the get go. After her father sells her legacy off, she feels that all she has worked for since she was a child has been sold down the river, she is left feeling a little sad and sorry for herself, and it doesn't help that she is attracted to the man who took it all away.

I loved Alex, Lucas and Mal - or the Hot Trio as I dubbed them. But especially Alex. Loved that he went for what he wanted. He saw, he wanted, he got! But especially loved that he wasn't too over the top alpha about it, he listened to Maggie, understood her feelings about their relationship, but still went for it all the same.

Maggie - my heart broke for her over and over as things happened with the family business. I could feel her devastation at the lost of her beloved team, her anger at her father for blind siding her with it,her confusion over he feelings for Alex - how can you love someone you should hate?

Loved the secondary characters, particularly Hana and Shelly. Love these ladies to bits! I want the in my corner, wouldn't want to face off against them.

This was a cute sweet read. Loved that it showed the behind the scenes and sometimes seedy side of the baseball world, and didn't focus on the players themselves. There were a few editing issues that I came across (had to reread a few sentences, and they still didn't make sense) but it did not take too much away from my enjoyment. Another quick round of editing should fix these things up.

Even though Alex and his fellow teammates couldn't play baseball anymore, they'd made it through the fire and helped everyone they could. Now they're not only the best of friends, but business partners too. They've always loved baseball and now that the opportunity is right, they've purchased The Saints. Now all they have to do is get the previous owner's daughter to help them smooth things over with the current players on the team…but Maggie feels betrayed by her father for selling the team and isn't about to make things easy for anyone. Just because Alex is hot doesn't mean he's not the Devil himself. Things get off to a rocky start, but Alex is determined to win Maggie over to his side…strictly for the well being of the team. Can Maggie resist the Devil's charms and let her anger guide her or will she succumb for the sake of the team she's always been completely devoted to?

The Devil in Denim was fun, sexy, and especially enjoyable for a sports fan who also loves to read romance! The by-play between the characters was full of edge-of-your-seat sex appeal. The witty comebacks were wickedly hot and comical too. Sexual tension kept the reader anticipating more erotic encounters between the often bickering hero and heroine. They were determined to keep each other at arms length, but they just couldn't stay away from each other. I loved the mix of sports and romance. The confidence and intelligence of the heroine was fantastic to see, along with her mature attitude in dealing with the hero. Love won in the end and we certainly had a sexy dose of that happily-ever-after we seem to love! I've been missing out on this author and I'm going to remedy that right now. I'll be vigilantly searching for more from Ms. Scott! Don't mss The Devil in Denim! 5 Stars!

Maggie Jameson or Saint Maggie as she is known around the baseball league always thought she would grow up to be the CEO of the team her dad has owned for decades the Saints. Little does she know her dad has done a deal with three men to buy the team just as she finishes she study and wants to set her plan in motion? Blindsided by the selling of the team she goes and gets herself drunk until one of the owners Alex Winters finds her to explain the reasoning but Maggie is beyond wanting to hear anything. Knowing she must confront her father she is thrown into a press conference where she must play the part of Saint Maggie who is happy with the sale. Alex offers here a job with the team to help them with a smooth transition. That is until a problem from the past decides he wants the team more and then Maggie must decide whose side she is on and will she allow her feelings for Alex to cloud her judgment or help the guys to own the team she always wanted?

I liked this book I loved Maggie and the voice inside her head that she thought helped her to decide what was wrong and what was right. I found the ending to be a bit an abrupt I wanted to know more about how Alex and Maggie were going to make the relationship work with him as the boss and this was an underlying question throughout the story for them both. I love the story and I want to see more about Mal and Lucas and can’t wait for the next title to see how their stories turn out.

I received and early copy of this book to review. I had never read this author before thought I believe she has written some science fiction but she wrote an absolutely fun and fantastic book.

The story centers on Maggie, a woman who just graduated college and is a 1st daughter of baseball for a losing team the "Saints". However, while losing they are a huge fan favorite and so three men try to buy the team from Maggie's dad.

Alex is the hero in this story and is CEO, he is the one who would primarily run the team and Maggie had been hoping to be able to graduate and eventually be CEO. So when her dad sells the team she is majorly pissed and mostly at Alex.

I loved Alex. He is sweet, kind, sexy, tough and super attracted to Maggie. But he lets her do things at her own pace. After the team is sold, she is brought on to help the three owners get to know the players and show her support.

While I find baseball boring and would think I would find the behind the scenes workings of a baseball team super bring. I found it fascinating as the 3 partners and Maggie try to get the sale approved.

The story was great I just thought the author could have expanded on the ending, and I wanted them both to confess their love in the ending.

This is a great story and I cannot wait for book 2.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first Melanie Scott book, and I must say that I will most definitely keep an eye open for her books in the future.
Maggie Jameson is an intelligent, educated, independent woman who had a plan for her life. A plan that had a curveball thrown at her. Alex Winters is part of the curveball that was thrown at her, even though in her mind he's the devil himself, she finds herself extremely attracted to him.

I have to say that I genuinely liked this book. It was sweet, sexy and charming. There are moments that the thoughts that come from Maggie's head are frustrating, but she is a woman who is also figuring out her own life, and thankfully does it in a manner which has positive results. In a few words, Maggie as a character, even though at time frustrating, is brilliant. She is kind, loving, loyal, and looking out for the main people in the situation that occurs which are The Saints Baseball team.

I loved Alex Winters. He is sexy, charming, real, funny, loyal and slightly cocky. But cocky in a way he knows he is that good and can deliver. I liked seeing things from his POV at times, especially the emotional vulnerability he feels at moments when it comes to Maggie.

This is one of those sports meets romance novels. Alex and his two best friends, Lucas and Mal love baseball, until tragedy struck back in college and they had to give up on playing the sport. So when their beloved New York Saints [not sure if that's a real team, not very attuned with sports here] are up for sale, they team up to buy them.

Maggie is the only daughter of the Saints owner, she grew up with the team, her dream is to one day be CEO of the team just like her dad. She has spent year getting degrees in business and sports management, all working toward her goal. So when her dad sells the team and doesn't even tell her [I know right, what a prick], Maggie is crushed.

Alex needs Maggie on board with the sale because if the League doesn't approve the sale and the players are not happy, things can go bad, real bad. Well eventually all those late nights working together, lead to some real chemistry.

The only thing I did not like was the ending, it felt to rushed, would it have killed the author to throw an "I love you" in there. Since this is only book 1 in the series [book 2 will be Lucas' love story] I'm sure we'll see more of Alex and Maggie.

*************Thank You NetGalley for an Advanced copy of this title**********
Maggie is absolutely TICKED that her father sold the Saints right out from under her. She was born and raised at the field, and worked her whole life towards one day taking the team over. But out of the blue, her dad sells the team. To Alex. What the heck does Alex know about baseball? He is a corporate ball buster. Yet Alex wants to hire Maggie to smooth their way with the investors and the players and other employees. Maggie desperately just wants to work with the team she was raised with and considers family, but can she work with Alex?

This was a great book! I thoroughly enjoyed it the whole way through. I loved all the crap that Maggie gave Alex, especially at the bar in the beginning. It was hilarious! This was a great read for people who enjoy Susan Elizabeth Phillips and Deirdre Martin, as well as Susan Mallery. It was just a great, fun read!

I loved this book. The characters are so well developed. The author wrote Alex in such a way that, although I wanted to hate him for his hard core business tactics, I understood why he had to be that way. And he was human and truly a good guy. And at times I was irked at Maggie for being immature, but I hurt along with her for things not happening the way she wanted. And in the end she always stepped up, not acting like a whiny child but sucking things up like an adult.

But I felt everything along with them which to me is a sign of a well written, great story.

The storyline could've gotten bogged down by the business side of things but the author did a beautiful job of weaving that all in with the romance and making it so realistic. (I also love baseball so maybe I'm biased ;)

I really liked Alex and I really liked Maggie (especially her imaginary therapist-brilliant and hilarious) and I found myself rooting for them.

I can't wait to read the next books in the series.

What I think is that I am officially conflicted. I guess all the necessary ingredients were there - however I somehow feel that they did not mix well.

I quite liked the storyline, the selling the team bit and that the heroine is a strong, capable one who knows what she wants.

What I did not like? The too much unnecessary drama. I mean, sure, it is a stressful situation - but I felt like strangling someone half the time.

Another thing I did not understand, nor did not particularly like - how little contact the heroine had with the baseball players. The author explains that they are all buddy-buddy, that the heroine can sway the players towards one decision or another, yet we only get to know ONE player. Not even the husbads of her best friends. What's up with that?

So, the conclusion is: It was OK, kind of lukewarm romance, with too little sport. I will take alook at the other parts of the series, but I don't have too high expectations towards them.

I was hooked right from page one I loved Maggie, "her jaw dropped, her fingers clamping around the shot glass. "Did you seriously just ask me that? Well, gosh, Mr. Winters, no I'm not at all upset that my father sold my legacy down the river. Didn't bother me in the slightest." Alex has a hard time controlling himself when he's around Maggie, "it means I'm being a gentleman. As much as my instincts are telling me to finish taking off your clothes and have my way with you, that would only freak you out more. So, we're not going to do that." He rolled to his knees and started straightening his clothes." He also has no qualms in showing how desperate he is for his girl, "you can do whatever you want to me," he said fervently. He reached down and helped her to her feet. "Just take me to the damned bedroom." This book was really fun to read I hope to see some more from this series.

This was my first book by this author and it wont be my last. Well written, witty and funny the story drew me in and i could hardly put the book down.

Maggie has been thrown a curve ball. She has just found out that her father has sold he beloved Saints Baseball team. The team that she thought she would one day run.

Out of the three new owners , Alex approaches her first and she believes him to be the Devil. Charming, hot, cocky and a definite alpha male he screams 'leader'. However Maggie does not want her bodies response to him to change the she thinks of him.

Hurt by her dads betrayal, she has no other choice but to help with the transition, however lust and an unwelcome opposition get in the way.

We also get to know a little about the other owners Lucas and Mal.
