Best third book I've read in a long time. Didn't feel rushed and she really stayed true to the characters.

I'm so sad about this one. I loved the first book. By book three, nothing makes sense and the characters I loved are all...not who they should be. I think someone gave the author some really bad advice or something.

First off, if your plot includes a teenage girl becoming the supreme ruler or whatever of anything...resist the urge. If said teenage girl comes to power by almost choking a diplomat to death, don't then try to say that same diplomat was upset she wanted to hand power back over.

The thing I loved about the books to begin with was the relationship between Lark and Beck. I knew there were issues with the plot, but I loved them so I didn't care. So in this book, where they basically hate each other (except when they're making out) and don't trust each other, that relationship is corrupted and the entire series now falls flat. The back and forth!! One page Lark is declaring her everlasting love, the next she's ready to walk away with absolutely no new provocation.

Here's a sensitive issue: This book contains it's mandatory token gay person. I don't know if it wasn't written into the series originally and that's why it's so poorly thought out? But it really doesn't work for anyone. Even if you really really want gay characters in every single book...he's the villain. The reason he becomes the villain is...he's gay. Also just think for a second. He doesn't make sense in this world at all, which is why I think a change was made by editors. We're told in book number one there is really strict population control. Everyone can only have two children. No more. No less. We find out later that there are biological reasons. Great. Then the author makes it sound like gay marriages are very normal in this world. But if that's the case the population growth wouldn't be zero. It would be negative as some couples would never have biological offspring. Especially among sensitives this would be absolutely not allowed because you could never regain those numbers. So you'd think the government would do everything it could to prevent such couples. In the author's effort for inclusion she wrote herself into a corner. And Callum, he's so obviously the bad guy from the very beginning, some serious subtly lacking. The 'big battle' was a joke.

So there's this big ball right. Very fancy. How is our 17 year old super ruler going to show she isn't a little girl any more? She's going to wear a dress that shows all her scars. Cool. Totally on board. Oh and her nipples. Wait...what?

Of course the ball is a disaster, aren't they always. And Beck, he implodes after Lark leaves him. She gets home and her Uncle Henry immediately is telling her she must go see Beck. Okay, but the second she sees him Henry starts telling her she has to leave. Well goodness Henry, you brought her there in the first place! And that's how this whole book goes:
Lark: I am going to stay away from Beck.
Every single person: You should stay away from Beck for a couple days.
Lark: Absolutely not, I'm going to see him right now!

And secret grandpa in the woods with all the answers? Except he only speaks mixed up nonsense that he so that's really not helpful. What was his purpose exactly? We never do see him again. Speaking of characters MIA... where's Maz? Did he even have a single line? And what about Lena? Her husband has abandoned her, her brain is mush, and... no further information.

And the ending. I know the author is trying to empower Lark by having her make her own decisions in life, but she's married. She claims to be in love. Listen, I'm in love. And I make my own choices. But my love influences every decision I make.

This book was everything it could be!! I loved it! It wrapped up everything so perfectly, left no loose ends, and wasn't rushed. I try to write my reviews in a way that doesn't spoil anything, but that is very hard with this book. There's not much I can say specifically without giving away spoilers, so I will say that I just loved every bit of it, every story-line, just every single thing! I wish all book series could be this suspenseful, exciting, intriguing, and interesting. It was bittersweet as I was finishing it this morning. The story is over. :( But, what a great story it was!!

I can't wait to see what else Dawn Rae Miller has for us in our "book-world" future. :)

Dawn Rae Miller is an absolute master of plot twists and terrifying turns. In this last of The Sensitives trilogy, we finish walking the path of confusion and self-destruction with Lark and we learn finally who her true friends are. It feels like a wrap though, perhaps, she might be talked into sharing a few more shorts with us at some later time.

During the first half of the book lark seems to be in denial on how she affects beck but it all makes sense during the second half. The ending was great and i don't have any complaints about it.
