Surely, she'd gone completely mad. Claire Manning can't imagine what she was thinking when she decided to help the escapee from her company's lab, but after seeing him caged like an animal, her humanitarian compulsion cannot be overridden-even by the arrogant, scowling eighteenth-century Highlander Hugh Urquhart turns out to be. His entire life has been taken away from him, and Claire understands the pain and torment of loss. She understands the desperation she sees in his eyes and is prepared to do whatever it takes to secure Hugh's freedom and future. What she isn't prepared for is the ruggedly handsome Scot she finds under the layers of grime and blood caked on him. Nor is she prepared to feel so much more than mere compassion for his suffering.Contains mature themes.
Angeline Fortin is an award-winning author of historical and time-travel romance, offering readers fun, sexy, and often touching tales of love across time.
With a degree in U.S. History from UNLV and experience as a historical interpreter at Colonial Williamsburg, she brings authenticity and rich historical detail to every page. Her passion for the past—particularly the charm of Victorian London and the mystique of Edinburgh—shines through in her vividly crafted settings.
A former military wife, Angeline has lived coast to coast and everywhere in between, having visited 49 of the 50 U.S. states (Alaska, you’re next!). Her overseas travels—especially to beloved destinations like Scotland and England—provide endless inspiration for the time-travel adventures and heartfelt romances she crafts.
A native Minnesotan, Angeline currently resides in Rochester, Minnesota, with her husband and three beloved dogs: active Aussies, Blue and Pippi—who are extremely smart but have no idea what personal space is—and her sweet senior rescue mutt, Oliver. When she’s not writing, you’ll find her lost in a good book or film, tackling home design projects, or cheering for her beloved Minnesota Vikings with the endless faith that they will win the Superbowl… someday.
Above all, she loves what she does every single day: telling unforgettable stories.

Kirsten Potter did such a phenomenal job with this Audible narration that it easily pushed the story up a full star.
This time travel historical romance is set in modern times. It is the H who travels forward in time. I adored the slow reveal of his personality, talent and intelligence. We also got a good h who is intelligent with a warm caring heart.
The slow build romance is perfect. While the story doesn't always feel plausible, the romance itself seems as real as you and I.
I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book. 3.5 stars rounded up.
I love this one! I love that it was the hero that did the time traveling and had to make all the adjustments. It is admittedly slow at times and definitely a slow burn, but the payoff was quite satisfying. Happy reading!
Look. I get it. Washington State isn’t a state the author lives in, and that’s fine. However, I’m really getting sick of reading books set in Seattle, or Spokane! Not because it’s overdone, but because Authors refuse to do the leg work of looking at a freaking map. This book is set in Spokane (where I grew up) and I now live in Seattle. The two towns are almost five hours apart, with central Washington and a mountain pass between them, and between the coast and Seattle there is the puget sound and at least another four hours of a drive after getting across said sound before reaching the water. So when a line says that (sitting at lunch in Spokane) she can see coastal mountains from her window, I yell “excuse me?” back to the author. Spokane is closer to Idaho and Montana than it is the coast! Next time, look at a map!
Such an amazing twist on a highland, time travel novel. It was so nice to read about a Hero traveling to the future and learning to adjust to the modernized world. Claire & Hugh were beautiful characters and I fell in love with them. Their relationship was sweet and though their strong romantic feelings came on a bit too quickly, I really enjoyed their story. This was a slow burn so there were a couple intimate scenes (I skipped) closer to the end. Overall, exciting story, great plot and wonderful audiobook. (P.S. I loved Claire’s brother Danny. So hilarious and I enjoyed how much he teased her).
CONTENT Romance: Intimate scenes (detailed) Violence: Moderate Language: Strong (S***, B.S, a few F* words)
Angeline did such a great job in "A Time & Place for Every Laird," there is so much I have an essay on why it's a keeper.
Claire (a.k.a. Sorcha) and Hugh were unbelievably portrayed in such a realistic light, and character growth was perfect.
They didn't just fall into bed the first few days, which had become the norm nowadays. They grew to love in a "my true love" kind of way without a rushed lust, and it's much less trashy, but still sexy and romantic.
I could go on and on over this book, but I'll let you figure it out after you read it.
A well written and engaging story. Claire and Hugh, the main characters are well portrayed, and the story moves along at a good pace. At times Claire's indecisiveness goes on too long, but I suppose the author was trying to communicate the magnitude of her loss and depth of her first love. Hugh as portrayed is a man most women would love to meet.
This is a very nice romance. The only thing I didn't really love is the fact that this is basically a contemporary romance story and not a historical like the other books in the series. I feel the hero got used to the modern day era WAY to quickly. Other than that is a very nice complete and well developed romance with very good narration.
Great book....writing flows....interesting change from girl gets stuck in past falls in love story line. Here the guy gets wrenched out of his time by a governmental science project gone wrong and sent to our 21st century.
2.5* Good story line, the main characters were endearing, loved the ending - but WOW! we could have gotten there a lot sooner. Words, words, words ... so many unnecessary words.
Hugh is on the battlefield one minute and the next he finds himself falling through a wormhole. This highland Duke finds himself 250 years in the future, but not in Scotland, in America! Claire is a widow who works for a science research facility. While dropping off some paperwork she wanders into a restricted area to find not only animals in cages but two men as well. While debating what to do about it, the men escape and Claire must decide whether to turn Hugh into the authorities or to help him and teach him how to survive in the modern world of 2013. She realizes very quickly that she is more afraid of losing her heart to a Scotsman than facing the authorities.
This was adorable! I was giggling through most of the book. Hugh is arrogant and charming. The narrator did a fabulous job with his Scottish brogue. All the girls would volunteer to take this hotty home. Claire gave as good as she got. She had a backstory dealing with the death of her husband that gave the story some gravity. She had a habit of worrying and changing the subject that got on my nerves, but Hugh dealt with that eventually. They ended up being a sweet couple and I thought the ending was spot on. I enjoyed this time-traveling romance.
When Claire comes across a secret project at her job, she is shocked to see animals in cages. But she is even more freaked when she discovers 2 men in those cages. Hugh starts off in a bloody battle in his homeland of Scotland when suddenly he finds himself in a strange place and is placed in a cage. Out of his own time, Hugh is treated like an animal- but he sees Claire and hopes for rescue. When he breaks free from the lab, a journey of discovery begins- not just his in this new era but for Claire as well. Widowed Claire is frozen in her life, not moving on but living in the past, until Hugh comes into her life and forces her to move out of her comfort zone
Definitely loaded with heat. A hidden time travel highland gem 💎. Well written and really enjoyed the way he came to the present instead of the normal woman going to the past time travel story.
Love her writing and will definitely keep reading this series.
This is a great book with a twist in the usual time-travel genre. I love the characters; they’re genuine and the kind of people you’d like to meet. Hugh is a delight and their relationship is built on witty banter, deep philosophical discussions, historical and cultural appreciation, and of course - passion. The book is filled with conflict, humor, action, and love.
I’m so happy I found this book and look forward to reading the series. I recommend it to anyone who likes time-travel stories as well as anyone looking for a good book with a Scottish hunk and a courageous heroine.
Second in my foray into Shirtless Kilted Men books, and I liked this one much more! Another time travel romp, but this time, the Jacobite-era Highlander is thrust forward through time to modern day Washington state, and finds himself escaping capture with an American widow. It kind of reminded me of Shirt Circuit, but with a sexy Scottish man instead of a quirky sentient robot. You can skip the first book in thos series, imo, and go right to this one (all 5 books in the series are available included in my Audible membership, so yeah.. skip the first one, go to this one. It was quite enjoyable)
A good contemporary time travel romance is fun; especially if the time traveler comes to present time rather than goes back in time. In this case, Claire walks into a laboratory at work and finds a man in a kilt covered in blood. Asking for help to escape the situation, she panics and runs but thanks to the Native American who is also being held in captivity Hugh escapes finds her and they on their journey to save Hugh and escape the company. Funny that we take for granted all our amenities. Love this series!
Not the most amazing time travel romance, but not the worst either. The hero and heroine are great in this one, I liked them both quite a lot. This entire romance takes place in "the future" aka 2012, the hero is transported forward in time and has to adjust to his new life. This was a draw back for me because one of my favorite things about time travel books is reading about the past. There was very little of that in this novel. Still, this book was enjoyable and worth the read for any time travel fanatics like me.
I have submitted this review after listening to the audio book of this title from within the series set box. (Audible Membership)
When a young woman did a friend a favour, she wasn't aware of the can of worms she would open. Finding exotic animals and two men caged in the laboratory area behind the office, she was to drop the folders to, caused a quandary for Celia. Later, when she was fronted in the car park by one of the caged men, she had seen enough to realise that he needed help.
An excellent well written story! I love the relationship which develops between Claire/Sorcha and Hugh. A true romance story with humor, action and lots of love. I love the idea of changes in scenery which you will have to read the book to find out what I mean as I hate to spoil stories but using a spoiler. I recommend this books and the others which are in the series!
Well now, I have the answer to my question: how a person from the past would adapt to our times. Angeline Fortin did an amazing job with Hugh Urquhart. I loved reading how Hugh discovered the advancements of the 21 century. I loved the way he wanted to learn and understand the world around him.
A wonderfully entertaining, romantic, sometimes spicy and thrilling tale through time.
Great story of love through time with a twist. The trials Claire and Hugh face are both unique and exceptional given the circumstances they each must face alone as they come to terms with their mutual attraction to each other and what it will mean to them going forward. I was of course also very happy to see Donell make his cameo appearance here as well and Danny as a secondary character was simply outstanding.
No spoilers! I really, really liked this book! I rarely leave reviews bc I have a hard time finishing books. I loved both h/h & the story of how they meet & more. A bit of mystery, action & romance = perfect! I read in 2sittings which is not common for me. I recommend to all time travel story lovers. My thanks to the author!
I only gave this 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ because it went too much into the theory and explanations of what time travel was instead of the romance between H & h. I liked both MC. H was a typical Alpha handsome warrior Scottish male and the h was a beautiful intelligent woman with a soft heart. But what they showed of their relationship was minimal. It also took a long time for their first kiss and took more time for it to progress into the steamy passion. It was disappointing because I loved the first book in this series and expected the same from this second. I really think that the author should have focused more on their romance as she did in the first. But I will say that I did like the action packed ending and their HEA. However I wouldn’t recommend it.
It's got realistic characters that don't make you want to slap or shake sense into them. The method of time travel is believable and there is a bit of suspense to go with it. Combine that with a good plot and back story and we have a winner folks!
This one didn't seem like it fit with the first book. In the first book, an older man instigated the time travel, and in this one scientists created a wormhole. Very weird and it doesn't fit together. Still, it was cute though crazy.
I love this entire series. The only thing I don't like is that I am finished with it. Non stop reading. The Laird is a strong leading man that brings emotion and love to a chaotic series of events. Must read !!
I really liked the story. I found the beginning a little slow but after that I couldn't put the book down. I've been loving this series. Great job Angeline!
