Caleb Barnes is on a mission. He's retired from the Army, but he's waging his own private war now. And though the men of Burnout are his former brothers-in-arms, Caleb fights his battles alone. Caleb was tainted from the moment he was born. He's always been alone and he'll always be alone. The world has no place for a man like him. Isabelle Boucher is on a mission of her own. She doesn't want to go it alone, but there's no other choice these days. She won't give up or give in, not until she reaches the end of the line. Caleb's convinced he's no good for anyone, especially not women. There's nothing he can offer a woman but pain and devastation. But Isabelle needs help and to refuse goes against everything Caleb stands for. Can two people alone for different reasons come together for a common cause? And once they do, will they ever want to be apart again?Contains mature themes.

*** Dahlia West has super awesome guys and gals in her action series ! * Dark haired, dark eyed Izzy is a bounty hunter... who is great at her job, loves it, and can take care of herself. We like her right away. * Caleb/Doc, is a big, 6'4", badass ex-Army Ranger, now part time cop, is awesome. Hawk, Tex, Easy and Shooter, and their women, are all here, too. Izzy is on the trail of a kidnapper/robber, and it places her on Caleb's turf.
We get action, violence, hot sex, and terrific characters.
This is well written, interesting and holds our attention all the way. We also get background information, that makes us like these two more and more.
Mossberg 500 Persuader (her Christmas present...)
The rescue at the end is fabulous. This is just yummy from cover to cover. The epilogue is icing on the cake ! Highly recommended. ENJOY ! =========================== Each story in this series can stand alone, but I'm glad I've read #1 and #3, so I can catch up with the previous magnificent cast. =========================
I'm starting to think there's a problem with me, not with the books. It's the 4th read in a row that just didn't do it for me, at least not all the way. So, so many books have amazing potential, they start really good but they just come up short, they disappoint at the end, they just can't finish what they started. I just had to find a sports gif for this one
Anyway, it's worth reading, just don't get your hopes up.
I am going to miss this series so much. I love Burn Out heros and heroines. They are the best. I love Miss West sassy, fun, interactive banter. Doc is no difference.
I love Izzy. She is kick ass heroine. She is not a weak heroine. Although I am not feeling the attraction from Izzy to Caleb, I still enjoy their banter. The sex scenes is hot AF. I love the epiloque and see how all of the characters coming together with their HEA.
Overall, a satisfying read at the end of my bad day.
This was a disappointment so it's not going to be a long review......
Throughout the series we've heard that Doc had a steady woman in Sioux Falls, turns out that woman is a prostitute and he'd been using prostitutes for years. I didn't judge him because honestly he wasn't a manwhore, he went once a month and was never with any OW.
Witnessing his father murder his mother left a lot of scars
Izzy is a badass bounty Hunter but she like all the women in this series was the one to do the pursuing. She basically refused to leave his house. Ta da a relationship was born
They go into the bounty hunting business together
No OW drama, at the beginning Izzy's ex tries to talk to her but she wasn't interested
The beginning was slow, the middle had some action the ending was meh
There were a few books that pissed me off, some that had my eyes bugging out and one that disgusted me but I don't regret trying this author and will actually read more from her. Her books are entertaining, steamy and interesting not always quite safe but nevertheless I'll try her books again.
Izzy's boyfriend's "big betrayal" is just about the dumbest ass thing I've ever heard of. He threw out her birth control pills and planned on getting her drunk. Like she wouldn't *notice* that she hadn't taken her pill? If there was some redeeming(?) middle step ("oh, I'll conveniently forget to wear a condom"), I missed it.
And then Doc thinks he raped Izzy. I mean, for the love of God, what a drama queen. And Tex takes him seriously, comes over like the grand arbiter of appropriate sexual behavior, but then makes a potential rape victim have a conversation with a strange dude while naked in her own bed. I just, for the love of God.
Well, apparently those two "big" issues I had were supposed to be some of the major issues the H/H were supposed to overcome... So this book really didn't do it for me.

Enjoyed this one, it was not perfect but I could overlook stuff here. Izzy was a strong heroine. I really liked how competent she was. Doc was okay. He had a bad history that made him jump to some startling conclusions I did like the resultant angst even if it might have been OTT. I expected after the she told Caleb why she had broken up with her former boyfriend over betrayal of trust that somehow that would be a factor in their relationship too. I mean it kind of seemed like a set up for that but no.
The action was fun and I totally enjoyed that part of the story. This series on the whole was a winner for me.
4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Liked it! ==================== Reread in September 2022 and added quotes.

Read in 2014.
Gostei. A heroína é caçadora de recompensas e tem uma personalidade marcante. O herói é cheio de problemas emocionais. Tem ação, sexo e a participação de personagens dos livros anteriores. Recomendo! -------------- I Liked. The heroine is a bounty hunter and has a remarkable personality. The hero is full of emotional problems. Has action, sex and the participation of characters from previous books. Recommend!
I was lucky enough to get hold of an early copy of Doc, and the only disappointing moment is that it's the end of the series.
I love this series and can't wait to see what DW will do with Stark Ink, as for my Burnout boys, I will just have to settle on re-reads... They are so worth it
Whether as an Army Ranger in Afghanistan or a police officer in Rapid City, Caleb "Doc" Barnes has dedicated himself to helping the most vulnerable. This is a mission he has always undertaken alone despite the bond he shares with his former brothers-in-arms. As a bounty hunter, Isabelle Boucher always gets her man, and now she has set her sights on Caleb. Can Caleb let down his guard long enough to let Izzy in?
Series note: This is the final book in the Burnout series. While the plot is standalone, there are numerous recurring characters and references to events in the first 4 books.
This series has been a mixed bag. Books #1 and #3 are fantastic with engaging couples and intense romances. Unfortunately, books #2 and #4 are problematic with douchebag heroes and heroines who are far too forgiving. Thus, my expectations for Doc's story were kept in check, but it thankfully hits the mark and ends the series on a high note.
The questions regarding Caleb's mysterious past and even more intriguing present are finally addressed. While some of the answers are unexpected, especially Doc's secret in Sioux Falls, others explain a great deal about his mission-oriented character. Caleb is a deeply principled and profoundly honorable man, who understandably struggles with his origins. However, he is also exceptionally lonely, and it is wonderful that Izzy is able to fill this void in his life.
Izzy is an incredible kick-ass heroine, who can hold her own against gun-toting fugitives, biker gangs and ex-Army Rangers with equal aplomb. The minor suspense plot is compelling and the final showdown is intense and exciting.
As always, the Burnout family is wonderful and they eagerly welcome Izzy into the fold. One moment in particular stands out - as it highlights the bond that the men share.
Overall, Burnout is an entertaining series with engaging romances. Even though book #2 was a DNF for me, others have enjoyed it, and I will definitely be continuing on with the spin-off, Stark Ink focusing on tattooist, Adam Stark and his family.
I think this would’ve been really fantastic if it was as long and detailed as Shooter. There just wasn’t enough time to develop their relationship. I don’t understand why Dahlia West decided to cut her books basically in half after her first and second ones in the series. And then went back to full length for Preacher... I feel like these could have used more time and more pages to develop characters and relationships. Still this was much better than the last two.
Dahlia... I freaking loved it. And I loved Doc. My poor sweet Army Ranger. Izzy was a firecracker... The kickass bomb. Loved how the boys took a shine to her... She's pretty damn lovable. But but but.... No more Burnout bookie-boo's? But ya gots me addicted to ya now. I need the insider info on your noggin. I gotta know what other adventures are a brewing. PLEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSE.
first read this series three years ago. loved it then, still very much enjoying it this time round. not so much mc but the guys are a brotherhood, the survivors of an army ranger team who faced the worst horrors of war, and their bikes are important to them .. they accept themselves as bikers but Shooter was brought up in a 1%er club and never wanted that particular conditioning but accepted the good of that lifestyle and encompassed it with his team on their return home. a tight knit group that find strength and give strength to each other. lots of triggers for various types of abuse so those who are affected by that type of storyline should avoid the series. great alpha males ... sassy, quirky females who have great inner strengths. romances you can't help but love. very well written, with continuing storylines behind the romances.
I liked this book more than the rest of the series. They were all good but Doc's character, which hadn't been developed in the previous stories, was very engaging. I'm not Isabelle's biggest fan but she's probably the best fit for Doc.
After reading all the other books in the series, I was really hoping this one would redeem things from this author. Unfortunately, this one wasn't fell a bit flat. I'm not sure if the author just didn't feel like writing more each time, but the books progressively got shorter and shorter and made things seemed rushed (this one was half the length of Shooter). "Shooter" is still by far the best in the series and I feel like it set the standard too high for the rest of the books to follow.
Doc is an ex-Army Ranger and now a cop for Rapid City PD. He's kept himself from relationships his whole life since he had an abusive dad and he doesn't want to end up like him. He has a lot of pent-up anger and rage, that's for sure. He doesn't exactly operate on the straight and narrow as a cop either. I have mixed feelings about Doc. His rage was pretty scary at times and he took things a bit too far. He also was a bit of a drama queen, especially in one particular scene with Tex. I liked that he was a defender of those who needed it, so I respect him for that though.
Izzy is a bounty hunter, just like her dad and grandfather before her. She's pretty good at her job too, even if she's a female going against some tough criminals. She hears about a murder and kidnapping suspect on the run and decided to go after the guy. She tracked the leads to Rapid City and that's how she met Doc and the rest of the Burnout gang. I have to say that I really liked Izzy. She was a no-nonsense tough gal and knew how to defend and protect herself. She also wasn't afraid to call Izzy out on his crap and didn't give up on him like some would have.
Things really pick up after the first half of the book, so just stick with it if you find yourself getting bored. But again, this book is way too rushed. Why give Shooter and Tex books twice as long but skimp out with the last two books so that you feel as though you really don't know the characters as well? We don't really see any romance budding in this relationship, yet they fall in love by the epilogue. They never dated, just chased after the bad guys, which I guess in some way is their idea of a 'date' but it just didn't add up to me.
I do appreciate that we were introduced to Preacher in this book since I'm reading that next. I haven't really liked him at all during this series, but now the synopsis of his book is starting to make sense, so I'll reserve my judgment of him for now.
The story was ok for the most part since I've liked Doc from the first book. I was not as impressed with his own book and felt the the author was wrong getting Doc kicked off the police force. As far as I'm concerned it went against Doc's character from the beginning of the series - fighting since he was a little kid to not become like his dad. All the rest of the guys in the series got their HEA and the life they always wanted and I was sad that the author took away from Doc not giving him his to the extent that all the others got their HEA. I just felt it was a low blow that wasn't necessary and took away from the entirety of the series being the last book. I liked Izzy as a character but not for Doc. In order for the author to make it work with her Doc had to lose his job on the police force. It didn't sit well with me, for him, because he was such a nice guy with a bad past that he didn't cause but was a victim himself. It didn't jive with his character at all, especially with him being an Army Ranger who in real life have to go through all kinds of psy testing so his anger issues over abuse of women should have come up before now. This was a let down for me to end the series with which for the most part is a good series. I'd really give this a 2.75.

meh! the story starts at 50%...so boring in the first half., The real story started after 50% of the book length. It was incredibly boring before that and then pretty intense after. The pacing of the book was wrong. If you last till 50% you will probably like this book. I liked both characters, they were terribly independent and the shift from lust to love happened so quickly it was almost non-existent. Actually it was non-existent. Overall though an ok book, not one I would recommend though.
This is my ZON Review... :-) Doc so sweet ... I'd like to say this is my favorite but really they all are .. I just love this Series!! This Series is a must read for Everyone.... So Get One Clicking People :-)
Thank you Ms. West, for bringing us a new partner in crime into the family. We now have a new member joining Doc as the story unfolds. I found the story delightful on many levels. Perhaps this will develop into more stories in the future. A Wonderful read
I have loved this whole series !!! I've fallen for each of the guys my fav will always be shooter and slick but I do love them all and sad that their time is over !!! If u haven't read this series it's a must read !!!
Shooter is probably still my favorite book in the series but this one comes in a close second. I loved the characters and the story line. It was just great!
What a great story. In this series we have seen a lot of mystery surround Caleb aka Doc. I mean how mean of you that have read this series have wondered who the mystery woman Sioux Falls was? Well in the book we get to find out just that and then some.
Now this book can be read as a standalone but to truly know each and ever character you need to read the whole series. I loved this story just as much as I loved book 1 and 4. I did do the whispersync with this book and the narrator did a good job.
I found Isabelle Boucher aka Izzy an amazing woman. Here she was a strong confident woman. She told it like it was and expected the same in return. She was a bounty hunter and loved putting criminals away. She also had a good and understand heart. Well that was unless you did her wrong. She did not do forgiveness.
Caleb was a sexy Ex-Army Ranger and also a cop. In this book we get to know Caleb better. In the previous books we did get to see that he did not completely follow the law and would do what he needed to get the bad guy. What we did not get to see is the inward battle that Caleb fought within.
Reading about Izzy and Caleb you could see these two were so meant for each other. They were perfect. Caleb needed someone as strong minded and able to take care of herself as Izzy was. He also needed someone that would fight hard for him as well.
There was one thing that made me stop reading for a second (okay more then a second) that was so wrong in my eyes. Now for most people who do not know anything about guns they would not even notice this but for people like me who do know a few things about guns well lets just say it caused me paused in my reading for a bit. The author did so well on the information she provided when it came to most of the facts on the guns, vest, and other things used in the book expect for when she said that Izzy pulled back the Glock’s hammer. A Glock does not have a hammer that you pull back.
There is a lot that happen in this story and I have to say I truly enjoyed this book and hate to see the series end. I would recommend this series to anyone that loves bad biker ex-military guys. Glad I got a chance to read the book.

This story wasn't like Shooter, Hawk and Easy I really enjoyed them. this book never let you see who Doc was he wasn't in the other books much and really not this one over half the book is drabble. Doc and Izzy never really had time together to fall in love it was like they met they loved, no real story. A little action I liked as far as hunting the bad guys but no time for the couple. It was like a different person wrote this story. I hated Tex but loved Shooter and Hawk really like Easy but I still don't know Doc. When I first started this book and Doc went to Shooters for poker I thought we had jumped a few years as it started out the first of Shooters Brood I was like wait they only had one kid in the other stories, Guess what still only one a brood mean multiple. Still feels like someone else wrote this story it was just way off make from the others. I did like Izzy though.
I had an interesting relationship with this series. I liked the first book, Shooter, enough that I continued onto book 2, Tex, which I could not finish. (I liked Tex A LOT in the first book and couldn't wait to hear his story. But I hated it, and couldn't finish it). However, I liked Hawk, so I wanted to hear HIS story and I went on to book 3, which I enjoyed even more than book 1.
Encouraged, I continued on to book 4, Easy's story. Again, I hated it. Jimmy was a JERK and I could not see what Daisy saw in him, and I didn't really care much for her, either. Another DNF.
This last book in the series was about Caleb, who I felt was the one of the five that we had gotten to know the least throughout the series. I liked Izzy a lot and knew she'd give Caleb a run for his money right from the start. I think she saved the best for last.
Doc is the last guy of this ex army ranger crew and I have to say one of the ones I've been the most curious about. He's a town cop helps in the garage when needed but doesn't see anyone that anybody really knows about. Just one they call Sioux falls.
Izzy is a bounty hunter from Denver she comes to South Dakota looking for a kidnapped victim and a runner for murder and kidnapping. She meets Doc .
This has been I think my favorite story of them all. Maybe it's because now I know everything or because Doc was the unknown. I hope the author will come back to this series and do like a 10 year later thing just to wrap it all up.
