Luke Walker: animal stick up for-er

Rate this book
Luke Walker is an eight year old boy with a mind of his own. He's noticed that life often isn't fair for non-human animals; and that what adults tell him sometimes doesn't make sense. Wanting to right wrongs, he becomes a vegetarian outlaw who will not play by the rules if the rules mean being unkind. He knows he's right but he also knows that, in order to do the right thing, he sometimes needs to be sneaky. These first eight chapters of Luke Walker's adventures sticking up for animals are funny, inspiring, and very entertaining. Great mischief, great adventures, great fun! Luke Walker is a vegan 'Just William'. Suitable for children aged 8 and up to read alone, or for reading to younger children.

I absolutely loved this book. It was brilliant from start to finish. I liked the characters, especially Luke. I found him funny and sweet and interesting. I liked the way each chapter of the book was a story in itself, an adventure with trouble or rescue or justice or all of the above. I liked his teacher, his parents and his friend. I found it funny and exciting and I didn't want to put it down.

I found it a very satisfying read, and I liked all the illustrations throughout the stories. When I was finished the book wished there were more.

I really enjoyed reading this book, it is great. Luke Walker is like a modern day Just William, who loves animals and wants to take care of them, and who wants to do the right thing, even if he has to break the rules to do it.

A great book for children to read.

Great book for teens and parents to read along together! If you are looking for a new book to read along with your kids then this is definitely worth a look!

I enjoyed the style of writing, the layout of the book, and also the illustrations which were spread out throughout the book.

Highly recommend!

This book is really funny. It's a great read which I thoroughly enjoyed. Luke is a character full of wit and wisdom of a child. He gets into trouble for breaking things, and for being all dirty, but he has great intentions and nothing stops him from doing what he thinks he should.

He is a great lovable rogue full of optimism and idealism. He sees things, and he does things. He is a great character, and all the characters in this book are really interesting. His teacher, his parents, his brother and his friends. They are all part of his life. There are lots of details, including gobstoppers, comic books, bicycles and dog poop. The fun doesn't stop, and these short stories kept me reading until the end.

I thought this book was really funny and interesting. It is a great book of short stories, of the naughty adventures of a little boy. It is a great read for confident readers, and I enjoyed it a lot as an adult.

If you like Just William, then you will like this too.

In a way it also reminds me of some of Anne Fine's works too, because it is all in the perspective of a child at school, which is often a very alternative perspective, of a special type, filled with a certain wisdom applicable to the situations that children are placed in by adults and society. Really humorous stories.

This is one of my favourite reads this year. I was attracted to it by the front cover, and I often find youth fiction more interesting than adult fiction. The characters are really interesting and funny and the little boys are well written. I like the different perspectives of the teachers and parents and children, and it is really nice to have a book which has messages about loving animals and taking care of the world by picking up litter which is fun and exciting too. This is a book which is good for reading with children, or older children can read it alone. It has great black and white illustrations inside and a super front cover.

This is a great book, really funny and interesting and wonderfully written.

I like how it captures moments when you think the main character is going to get caught doing something he shouldn't be doing, and you hold your breath. Excellent suspense, very happy stories.
