"Film and Revolution" or Meet Me at Mao. A book like this has to devote at least half of its pages to Jean-Luc Godard, and I thank MacBean for guiding me to the obscure Godard: BRITISH SOUNDS, 1+1 (AKA SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL) and LETTER TO JANE (Fonda, that is). MacBean also has a wonderful knack for resurrecting interest in films that are a must for anyone who wants to turn the world upside down, e.g. ICE---the story of a future America with a thriving revolutionary underground; the Italian THE WORKING CLASS GOES TO HEAVEN; as funny and subversive as anything by Godard; and the Argentine documentary masterpiece THE HOUR OF THE FURNACES--on neocolonialism and revolution in Latin America.
