Everything you need to know about plumbing. Everything.Fresher and more complete than ever, this edition includes new material and revised information and is completely current with the 2006 Universal Plumbing Code. From basic repairs to advanced renovations, this is the only plumbing reference book a homeowner needs. And now, for the first time, Black & Decker The Complete Guide to Plumbing includes a comprehensive section on working with gas pipe. No other big book of plumbing for DIYers covers this important subject.
Also new to this 4th edition is expansive coverage of PEX (cross-linked polyethylene), the bendable supply tubing that's taking over a major portion of the DIY market. And with the current popularity of outdoor kitchens, we've expanded our coverage of outdoor plumbing as well. Now, we'll show you every step of the process to supply and drain an outdoor sink.
Black & Decker Corporation is an American manufacturer of power tools, accessories, hardware, home improvement products and technology based fastening systems headquartered in Towson, Maryland.
This is superior to the "HomeSkills: Plumbing" book. It has double the pages and almost word-for-word and picture-for-picture what the Homeskills book contains, with sometimes more tips or pictures. They share the same publisher, but Black and Decker’s covers more fixtures like water heaters, water filters, and plumbing projects requiring some construction. It’s also cheaper ($16.37 vs $22.20 on Amazon).
The pictures and illustrations are well done and show inside many fixtures and appliances.
The book mentions different changes and regulations in the last few decades regarding plumbing code.
The variety of different fixture and appliance types are covered well. You're almost guaranteed to have a diagram of your specific sink or shower style.
Many common problems with each fixture are covered. You should be able to repair minor issues using only their picture guides, and be able to replace fixtures with the guides and maybe a video tutorial outside of the book.
It also covers older or no longer practiced methods and materials that you may encounter, which is great for older homes.

I just checked out https://superbrothers.com/ and wow, it's not what I expected—but in the best way possible. The site feels like a quirky contractor homepage? It’s got headings like “Heating & Cooling” and “Plumbing Services,” which totally threw me off. I was expecting pixel art and indie game vibes, but instead I found HVAC and sewer line repair menus. Kind of surreal, honestly! It made me double-check the URL a few times. If it's intentional, it's definitely one of the most unexpected, meme-worthy designs I've ever seen. Anyway, it's stuck in my head now—and I can't stop thinking about those "Mini Split Installation" options.
At least this will help you understand why plumbers get a ton of money. It breaks down everything with pictures for guys who are afraid to read. It's simple, direct, and although you won't get your card when you're done with this, you'll have a good understanding of what you attempting to do. I bought it used, and it came to me like it was brand new. And don't tell your friends you have, cause they'll borrow it and that's the last time you'll see it. A lot cheaper than a plumber. Try it. https://plumbing-new-york.com/
A great guide that helped me a lot in solving small problems around the house. But for the complete plumbing project of my house, I hired a team of professionals Absolute Draining & Plumbing https://www.absolutedp.com who did a great job. The team conducted themselves with a high level of professionalism, showcasing extensive knowledge and efficiency throughout the entire process. Punctuality was paramount as they promptly arrived, assessed the situation, and commenced work without any unnecessary delay.
I laughed. I cried. It changed my life. I want to set up a youtube & twitter to tell the world about this book. I would tweet more than Trump on coke about this based book. yeet. No not really but if you want a good overview for plumbing & how it works & how to start doing for yourself in the plumbing department, & you don't want to google your way thru a bunch of websites & slo youtubes that explain nothing clearly, this is the book to read.
I bought this book 4 days ago with delivery. I've read the second chapter so far. I have been engaged in plumbing for many years, I take advanced training courses, I read a lot of books. My partner recommended this one to me. I will finish reading and write more, but I understand that not everyone will like this topic of the book-but I'm super! I didn't know some information about cranes. I took a lot more information and ideas here -https://faucet-review.com
This is a well illustrated and good book for basic to slightly moderate experience projects. I only give it four stars vs. five, because I feel like it should have more than basic projects with more comprehensive information. (i.e. how to lay out plumbing beneath a new basement/house pad, step - by- step septic system installation. I definitely recommend this book for all beginners. In our company https://los-angeles-plumbers.com, the training of new personnel begins with it
Everything you could possibly want to know, with outstanding illustrations. I now will no longer have to call a plumber for jobs like installing a new faucet. However, I am not sure I want to put in my own new water heater even though I now know how.
Hello. I was very interested in one post about plumbing. That the masters now do a terrible job and everything breaks right after they have repaired it. So what do you think is the best company in the US? Who can you trust with your plumbing?
great guide for do-it-yourselfers. contains very nice images and diagrams with easy to follow steps for projects such as bathtub installations to soldering pipes!
(I received this book for free through a Goodreads giveaway.)
Confession: I didn't have high expectations for this book, AND I have no particular interest in plumbing. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised, and it impressed me enough that I would gladly buy other Black & Decker guides.
This full-color, full-bleed guide covers pretty much any plumbing project you could expect to undertake in your home. Most of it is more advanced than I would feel comfortable attempting, but with some basic understanding, it would be accessible to most "handy" people. The best part, to me, is the section on plumbing repairs. I'm unlikely to try to install a new tub on my own, but unclogging a sink drain or tightening a wobbly toilet? Totally do-able, and probably unavoidable. I also appreciate the detailed cut-away diagrams and the charts that explain different kinds of tools and their uses.
The Black and Decker series is pretty good so far.
Good beginner DIY material; leaves you feeling comfortable making tackling some household plumbing repairs, and a good understanding of the home plumbing system.
