Zee is a career driven paleontologist who eats, sleeps, and breathes dinosaurs. When she receives an unexpected invitation from her godfather -- a conservation scientist in China -- to join a select team of scientists in researching a classified project, she can’t resist the opportunity. After fighting lifelong embarrassment and stereotypes associated with her heritage, she finds herself leaving the familiarity of home for an adventure in the country of her parents birth.
When a dangerous organized crime syndicate catches word of the discovery, Zee is forced to confront the demons from her past while fighting the real world monsters who threaten to take everything her team has worked for.
Never in a million years could she predict how this journey will change her life.
Kelcey Hill lives in Salt Lake City with her husband and daughter. Growing up in Utah, she has always had an immense love of dinosaurs. Her passion for traveling came while teaching English in Ningbo, China. After spending a decade living in Connecticut and Arizona, she settled back in Utah where she currently resides. When she isn’t writing about prehistoric reptiles or exotic destinations she fills her time working as a dental hygienist and traveling the world.
Zee is a Chinese American paleontologist who has been asked by her Uncle in China to come and help with a newly un-covered extensive set of dinosaur footprints in a small village in an area of geothermal activity and know for fossil discoveries. She joins a group of other specialists from around the world to document and preserve the find. At one point She discovers a skeleton of an as yet named dinosaur in a large lava tube. The group along with Chinese workers get the skeleton out and into their laboratory where the scan and prepare it for shipment. Using a 3d printer they create a copy for the bones, but before they a finished they are visited by members of a Triad who have their own idea as to the destination of the fossil. It is well written and the description of the Chinese village, people and area are will done. I have only one gripe (my pet peeve) and that is the incorrect use of lay and lie which is all to common these days. Is it no longer taught in English Class or were they all absent on that day? Also the incorrect use of Me and I, again a prevalent occurrence. Despite that , enjoy a good read..
I loved all the strong, able female characters. Zhou Da, the heroine of the tale, is a woman who has worked hard to get where she is. She is a scientist and a child of a spiritual tradition.
Parts of the book feel like folklore and parts like an action adventure. I would love to see this as a movie!
I loved this book. It was very captivating. Loved the fast that it’s spiritual with murder and intrigue. But, I want more. I want to know what happens once Zee is back home in America. Is there a sequel coming?
Descendants is a fun read that touched on the ideas of faith, loss, heritage and love with a little action, adventure and humor thrown in. The characters are human and sometimes scary. Highly recommended.
