Hiroshima: A love war story

Rate this book
concetta principe Essentially, A love war story is a 'working-through' of a period in my past that happened to coincide with the end of the cold war period and its politics. In the sense that we are born into circumstances and live out those circumstances without any foreknowledge, we unconsciously absorb responsibility for the historical events that led to the contemporary circumstances. The personal is imbricated by the political. My book owes a special debt to Marguerite Duras for showing us Hiroshima through her personal broken love story.

I love how concetta connects the end of the world to the end of love--through the atomic bomb at Hiroshima,.through Marguerite Duras' memoir, through film, and the philosophies of Walter Benjamin, but most of all I love her sentences-- startling, bright, full of energy and motion, unexpected imaged and similes. I love her juxtaposition of beauty and disgust/ death.
