White Stone Book 1

When the priest selects Kalima to be one of the honored children being considered for the glorious day of atonement, Kalima is sure there must be some mistake. She is the bastard daughter of a man she’s never known—certainly not the kind of person the great god Eris would consider worthy to atone the world of its sins. But the priest’s word is law, and so Kalima joins the others that were selected in the white stone palace, the home of the holy race of Sahnsor, to await further instructions from the priest and their god.

But while in the palace, Kalima begins to suspect that the Sahnsor are hiding something, a truth that will make her question everything she’s ever known about her faith, her god, and even what she knows about herself.

“M. B. Robbins takes you effortlessly into the heart of a courageous young woman coming to grips with the reality of a dark world.”

“[T]he heroine struggles with her religion, identity, and eventually, the knowledge that she is dying over a petty power struggle. The first-person narration gives it a close perspective and gives us readers a chance to connect the dots and stew in anticipation....”

This book reminded me of the Selection just a way different version of it. I really enjoyed reading this book and I finished it in one sitting because it was the perfect length for the plot. It's about a girl named Kalina and how she is picked along with other girls to become one of the honored girls. The honored girls serve the purpose in being sacrificed for everyone else's sins. It is looked upon as an important way to serve the god and everyone looks at you in awe. I found this concept very interesting and I loved how this world is just developed with the palace and the Sahnsor race. I did really like this book but didn't fall in love with it although I would recommend to others. It's more for people who don't have strong religious views because this book was focused around that. I loved the concept of the god Eris and how he was viewed by the people. Kalima was forced to reconsider how she felt about her god because of a person she met there and she questioned all her beliefs and how the ritual was run.
