Moving on from the past was never supposed to be easy
Odelle Pearl Simms, Dellie for short, is a writer. A good one in fact. Then out of the blue her own life hits a nasty plot turn she never saw coming. With her recent marriage in ruins, Dellie finds herself alone, with no idea how to move on. So when her friends and family insist she get away from it all, she packs her bags for a month-long stay with her Grandpa. With Grammie gone, he too is facing up to a new life on his own…
Returning to a town that is a haven of childhood memories, surrounded by long-lost family and finding inspiring new friends, this could be a chance for Dellie to discover who she really is. As old secrets are revealed, this trip could be just the thing that could save her and bring her right back to where she was always meant to be.
Life Without You, written by Liesel Schmidt, is a wonderful book about starting over and new beginnings. This is a new author for me, and I am so happy that I came across this book. I look forward to reading more books by Liesel Schmidt.
"Don't let go of your dreams, Dellie. Let go and dream them"
The above quote is really the central theme of this story. The story is about Odelle 'Dellie' Simms. Dellie is amazing writer that is at a crossroads in her life. Her life has recently come tumbling down in front of her, and she has no idea how to move on, or how to heal. After her sister, Charlie, comes to her rescue, Dellie decides to take a trip to see her Grandpa. She intends to stay for a month, but as we all know, things seldom go as planned. Dellie and her Grandpa are good for one another, especially since her beloved Grammie has died, and Grandpa is also trying to find a way to move forward. With the help of family she has reconnected with, old friends, as well as new friends, Dellie finally finds herself and begins to change her life for the better. The journey may not always be easy, but with the support of friends and family, it can be done.
This is a wonderful story that basically is about one woman's journey to finding herself, as well as realizing just how important the bond between family truly is. The characters are realistic, and very down to earth, so you feel as if you know them. The author writes with emotion at times, and humor at other times, all which makes for an engaging read. As the story progresses, you learn more about Dellie, what happened to her, and in the end, you want to see her succeed. Overall, this is a well written story filled with family, friendship, emotion as well as humor. I loved the central theme about following your dreams. After all, you are responsible for your own happiness!
I was given a digital copy of this book from Carina UK and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
When Dellie's marriage turns out to be a total mess she is left feeling devastated, a total failure and anxious about everything in her life. Worried about her her friends and family persuade her to take her a months break to go and stay with her grandfather, her beloved Grammie had recently died, in the Hamptons.
Back in the place of many happy childhood memories she starts to feel better and with the help of a bucket list starts to live again. Her progress is helped by three new friends that she has made Annabelle, Vivi and Savannah so will she start to live again and become the woman she once was?
A good story although I did find it a bit long winded in parts I loved the characters of Annabelle and Vivi especially
