Paul: A Messenger For Christ: A Novel from ACTS, Book 2

Rate this book
Paul continues what Peter and the other Apostles began in the starting of the new church based on the words of God and the coming of the Holy Spirit. Paul’s missions are numerous, and he preaches continually of Jesus Christ, His death, and His resurrection. As with Peter, Paul also cites Old Testament scriptures, bringing new meaning from the beginning of ACTS to its end.

It's very timely for me to read this book now, as we're studying Paul's missionary journeys in Bible study. I enjoyed reading the fiction story from Paul's point of view.

The story is straight from the Bible; in fact each chapter of the book references specific passages from the Acts of the Apostles. I appreciated that all that was added was helpful, primarily details about locations, such as distances and travel times between cities.

In several places, Paul remembers a story from Scripture (such as Daniel in the lion's den or Rahab and the spies), and that story is inserted as a first person narrative from the POV of the Old Testament character (such as Daniel or Rahab). It was done well and added interest to the story.

There is an "epilogue" after chapter with questions that help readers consider their own spiritual welfare and growth.

The only reason I didn't give the book 5 stars is that the writing style--especially dialogue--seems very simplistic. In his epistles, Paul was verbose, using a large vocabulary and a complex writing style with very long sentences. Although the simple language and usually short sentences in this book made it quick and easy to read, I didn't think the first person narrative sounded like Paul.

Biblical

I could find no fault in this story. It was a good first person revelation of Paul's ministry. God job.

Loved the book. Easy and interesting read. The author wrote a novel about the experiences of Paul following his conversion on the road to Damascus. The author included a Chapter Epilogue following each chapter with comments to make a person think about their own Christian life related to the chapter.
