The Surgical Solution: A History of Involuntary Sterilization in the United States

Rate this book
It would be better for the whole world if society could prevent clearly unfit individuals from perpetuating their species, rather than wait until the degenerate offspring are extinct through crime, or let them starve to death through their imbecility.”
Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes in a 1927 Virginia Supreme Court decision upholding Virginia's forced sterilization law

Not bad. The topic is inherently fascinating, especially since we are talking about draconian laws and practices that not only were practiced a couple of decades ago, but also were a big inspiration behind the Nazi eugenics movement. My big complaint is that the book was dry. Obviously, it is very well-researched and informative. But man was it dull at points.

First rate, and since it's history, it doesn't even need updating!
