Imperfect Bastard

Rate this book
IMPERFECT BASTARD, a new full-length standalone novel from New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author, Pamela Ann.

Falling in love with your brother's best friend can be catastrophic...so is unrequited love.

Love was one hell of a mother*&c#!$. Not only was it addictive, but it was that kind of drug that could get you so high you floated out of your physical existence, and then it had the potential to drop you more swiftly than a lactose-intolerant monkey could shamelessly take a crap.

It was so powerful, in fact, that it could drive any sane, lucid person to become thoughtless, mental to the point of destruction, consumed with taking desperate measures in order to win what they yearned for the most. But playing with fire could end up engulfing me inflames, burning every ounce of me until I was left in ashes, a speck of dirt that could be smeared and wiped away, left to be forgotten, unloved, alone.

Drew Cavendish was every woman's bad boy fantasy. Not only was he cool and smart with a bevy of women lapping up everything he did; he also happened to be my brother's best friend and secretly the love of my life. After losing my virginity to him, I hadn't seen him since. Now I was moving to study at NYU and about to live with my brother ... in a condo where Drew lived, as well.

At one point, he had meant the world to me, but circumstances had changed. Consequently, even though the palpable attraction was intoxicating, I knew better than to succumb to his easy charm. I would try to keep my composure and stay aloof. There was no need for panic. Yet my heart was a beat away from having a serious meltdown.

I would survive this as I had all my life--by loving him from a quiet distance.

I really want to read a book about h’s bro and her BFF.

Original Review
12/2020

This h had so little backbone and self respect. She never stood up to H and demanded he treat her fairly she just rolled over and said kick me while I’m down. She’s so weak; she never calls him out on his bullshit or ridiculous double standards. I never believed his come-to-Jesus moment. He was too flagrantly cruel. There was no real reason to keep them apart. He just liked hurting her.

For the most part, the OW are off page. But they are implied at such an epic rate, that, with his clueless (and only) POV midway through, made him so irredeemable I couldn’t love his whorish ways. I apparently have a line in OW fucking and h torturing and this is one of those books.

Two books with massive OW overkill that worked for me were... Mr. Spencer by TL Swan and Theo from the She Who Dared series by LP Lovell. These aren’t perfect and they are OW extreme, but I ended up liking the H’s, tho I would never get naked with either ;)

3 stars cuz I couldn’t put it down.

I almost 1 starred cuz it ends with zero closure and no real HEA or HFN to believe in. This truly needs a second book to solve all of the loose ends. Caroline, Poppy, the H’s dad’s motives, etc...

Disappointed

I was really excited about this book having read the sneak peak from Pamela Ann's newsletter I couldn't wait.

However I soon realised that the Drew & Chloe were very similar to Blake & Sienna from the chasing series.

I'm sorry but if a guy repeatedly treats you like Drew did you would either tell him to do one or it would be considered mental abuse.

Chloe was to annoying and in general pathetic to really get a long with & drew was just bullying alpha me. They both needed to just make a decision & stick with.

I'll be honest I got bored & only finished the story as I hate leaving books not knowing the ending

Sorry Pamela but your stories & characters are becoming very repetitive in all honesty i'll give your next book a miss

$4.99 for this? Hahahahaha!
NO.

The heroine is dumb as a post and seriously, the person who wrote this is partially illiterate. Absolutely appalling writing.

Review by Lisa Kane

What a roller coaster ride! I thought this was going to be a story about Chloe's unrequited love for Drew, her brother Jackson's best friend. They shared one night, he punched her V-card and she never heard from him again. Guy realizes his mistake after spending time with her and is brought to his knees. But I was Wrong. So wrong.

Now she's moved across the country for college and to live with her brother. The fact that her problem also lives with Drew just may be a bit of a problem. Within hours of being in the same apartment as him, the fact that he hasn't been pining away for her is thrown right in her face.

Everything vanished the moment my eyes witnessed Drew in the midst of thrusting in between a woman's legs with his bedroom door half open. From the looks of it, they had been at it for quite some time.

Drew is hurtful and pretty much without remorse. I hated him. But then as the story went on, I loved him. But that only lasted a few chapter and then he bled out my heart again. And I hated him. Drew is such a complex character. Just when you think he does love Chloe, he does want to be with her, he would once again put his douche nozzle hat on and I once again, kicked myself for thinking he was worthy of Chloe.

"I know I've done a lot of wrong, and I don't deserve you after hurting you, but I can't risk losing you again."

This one has it all-so many misunderstandings, off the charts, balls to the wall sex, a scheming piranha of a stepmother and an over the top debutante just waiting to get her hooks into Drew. Is Drew good enough for Chloe? He's definitely a bastard, he couldn't be more imperfect, but is he the perfect guy for her? I love angst and this one was like a big bowl of my favorite pistachio ice cream smothered in whip cream and each bite was delicious!

Good storyline but majorly effed up characters

Brother's best friend books are my thing so I was really looking forward to read this book. The storyline was good, but not too deep and it's shallowness made it rushed and weird sometimes. It left too much doors open.
I found the characters not only shallow but infuriating sometimes. Chloe was a typical hysterical and pathetic girl put into a very little box cliché written on it. She was pitiful to the extent I couldn't even imagine. First of all, she new Drew was a d#ck, but she kept throwing herself on him. Telling him constantly she loved him, nagging him every opportunity she got, when to be honest she was just the same. She wanted to date others, she lied to him and hurt him. She was not a lovable character for me. But I respected how she didn't want to be nosey and respected everyone's decisions.
And Drew.. I couldn't think of him as a man. He was a coward, breaking up with her in a text, disappearing when things got out of hand, reappearing only when she was about to move on. And that scene when he said he would forgive her (for what, I don't know..) if she proved she was worth it, meaning she needs to pleasure him, and she gave him a blowjob... I was seriously annoyed she was so pathetic. And the fact that she really think they could build a relationship on threats and ultimatums. He pushed her into someone else's bed and a situation where she could only end up behaving and feeling like a slut and an unworthy person. How she could forgive him for that is beyond me.
There were a lot of irrelevant lines in the story. I always say, if the camera is zooming on on something, it HAS TO be relevant. If you write about a mysterious family where the father only wants his son for some fckd up reason, you just need to solve that in the end. If the stepmother is a bth too, the son needs to realize that and move on. And possibly through a very hurtful event.
The situation with Oxford and the drugging was just so unnecessary. The story didn't need it at that point. It would have been much better if all doors are closed instead.
The narration was also a little awkward, especially at sex scenes. And why would you throw in only 1 Drew's POV chapter? It wasn't even a key scene. Either make it a dual narration, or stick to only 1 person.
I gave 3 stars only because I liked the story itself, but nothing more.

This new book was everything I expected and more from Pamela Ann! She has done it once again! She had me at the first page which had me reading til the very wee hours of the morning because I wanted to find out what was going to happen next! We meet Drew (who reminds me a little of Bass Cole from the Torn series) who is demanding, sexy, protective and sometimes frustrating but you just have to love him! We also meet Chloe and her brother Jackson( who could use his own book to explain what's going on with him...just sayin) Chloe has loved Drew since she was a little girl...he is her brother's best friend...Drew wants her but he doesn't want to be in a relationship...he hurts her and takes the coward's way out...she wants to move on, tries to date (Cori is a hot biker guy) but Drew always intervene's. When Drew and Chloe get together they are so so hot! There are things that are happening in Drew's life that he keeps secret! Those secrets come to hurt everyone! There were moments when I laughed, gasped and had tears in my eyes! I loved this story and hope that we see more of them!

Will the real Pamela Ann please stand up?

I don't know what has gotten into Pamela Ann as of late but wow have her books taken such a crap downhill turn. Granted this is not the worst book in the last batch of books she has produced( I think Monza takes that prize), it still falls in line with the garbage she has been putting out.
It feels like someone else has taken over and is writing her books for her just so she can meet deadlines.
The dialogue in this book was so annoying. I know the characters are supposed to be in their early twenties but nobody speaks that douchey. "You better recognize".
As per her typical writing theme Scorned heroine and manwhore hero. Love, hate, hate, love, hate, love.
Naturally h sees H in the midst of intercourse and looks the other way. Is heartbroken but "knows" this is how he is. She tries to move on so naturally he wants her now.
At this point if you've read one of Ms. Ann's books you've pretty much read them all.
I'm just happy this was on Unlimited and I didn't have to buy the book because I would definitely be getting a refund.

UPERB FIVE STARS!! This book by Pamela Ann was fantastic. I loved Imperfect Bastard. This book follows Drew and Chloe. Chloe is a girl who sounds like she struggled with her appearance and self esteem. She went thru a transformation lost some weight and boost of self confidence. Now Chloe is going to NYU for college and moves in with her brother Jackson and his best friend Drew. She was nervous seeing Drew after there one night they spent together but convinced herself that he means nothing to her anymore after he walked away from her that night. Drew is a handsome man who was a man whore lol and suffered some family issues. His dad abandoned them when he was little and his mom had no time for him. He was left to be raised by his grandmother. When his mom and grandmother passed he was "adopted" by Jackson's parents and became part of there family. When Drew finally sees Chloe after all this time he is amazed by her new transformation. Chloe just wants to live in peace and they make a truce to forget what happened between them and move on. As time went Chloe started to get attention from one of her brother's friend Spencer and was starting to make out with him when Drew popped in and interrupted their flow. Both guys got into a big fight over it. Drew was jealous but would not admit it. Chloe found some new friend in a bar that become her life line thru the book they sound like funny characters. They get her all dolled up and she goes on a date with a Cori who was into bikes. He was the first guy that she had been attracted to and felt herself possibly getting to know him better. While on there date Chloe is suddenly pulled aside by one of her new besties. She ends up with Drew outside behind the building starting to get hot and heavy between them. Want to find out what happens between them and if they can make it work? Then read this book I can't give away any more. You have to ABSOLUTELY read it you will not regret it i recommend it. I was giving an ARC copy of this book for my honest opinion and review.

Drew was definitely a bastard! I really liked Imperfect Bastard, but I wanted to slap Drew more than once. He lead Chloe on a not so merry chase throughout this story. He was so hot and cold with her that I'm surprised she put up with it. Therein lies the major problem I had with Imperfect Bastard: he treated her like crap and she put up with it. I liked that she put him off, but she didn't do it nearly enough, she let him get away with far too much. I know there is no way in hell any woman with a backbone would have put up with Drew's ridiculous treatment of Chloe. He was so hypocritical that he thought he could sleep around as much as he wanted (regardless of his reasons for doing so) but the minute Chloe even looked at another guy, he turned into a complete possessive caveman. Caveman tactics can be hot, but not when they're based on the guy being a hypocrite. He reminded me of my brother when he got his then girlfriend pregnant, he told me I couldn't have boyfriends because I was his little sister and boys were all after one thing. So he could have have a girlfriend (and get her pregnant), but I couldn't have a boyfriend because I was his little sister. Nope, don't think so!

The one redeeming quality of Imperfect Bastard, and of Drew himself is that he really did love Chloe, even if he fought it for far too long and it made him do too many stupid, hurtful things. The other thing I really liked about this story were Chloe's friends she meets at the bar. They're so sweet and supportive, unlike Drew.

I didn't really love this book. The author doesn't really delve into any character enough to make you really like any of them. Chloe has been in love with her brother Jackson's BFF Drew forever. Drew's family sucked so he practically lived at their house. After years of throwing herself at him Drew finally succumbed and takes her virginity, but he leaves town right after and doesn't speak to her again. Chloe is devasted and it takes her a long time to move on. Now she is moving from CA to NYC for college and she is moving into an apartment her parents bought for her brother who also goes to college in NY. The only problem is Drew lives there too. Supposedly Chloe & Jacks are super close and he is so excited she's there except he spends no time with her at all. Doesn't take her for tours around NY nothing. They also know nothing really going on in each others lives. Ridiculous. Chloe and Drew spend time together but are at each other's throats until she hurts her ankle (which is pathetic) and then he treats her like a queen while he takes care of her. Then they sleep together again but he doesn't want to be with her because she is like family and he can't lose his family if something goes wrong, but at the same he doesn't want her with anyone else. Blah blah blah. I would suggest you skip this book.

3 stars for this guy. It was OK, it wasn't amazing, it wasn't awful. It was just...there. There were a ton of things I didn't like and a few things I did. I liked that the FMC got some balls but I HATED how their relationship when back and forth and back and forth. I HATED that when FMC FINALLY decided to move on, he catches her and gets PISSED, makes her feel awful after he basically breaks her heart for like, the third time in book. It was like whiplash, like, one of those TV dramas, a trainwreck. You wanted it to end, but you just couldn't stop looking. I don't understand Poppy and what the hell she had to do with any of it. The bitchy step mother added NOTHING to the store. I don't understand what looking at Drew's IG had to do with ANYTHING in the book because she never actually mentions it to him. I didn't understand a lot of it.

I liked Jacks, and I kind of want him to get his own book with Courtney, I'd read that.

Pamela Ann has done it once again in this heart stopping, intense, and steamy book. I LOVE books with emotion and this book had it all! The back and forth relationship of Chloe and Drew was very intense, they both deeply care for one another but one is not ready to commit. I will not give anything away. However, I will say my heart stopped and I was feeling the emotions that the characters each brought to the book. I know I have already said this, but this book is full of emotion, some good and some bad emotion. Pamela Ann has a way of ripping your heart out and repairing it all in the same sentence. I am a huge fan of Pamela Ann. I so can not wait for more books from this author. I will be recommending this book to others. Pamela Ann you hit this one on the head! Bravo!! I can't wait for more!!!!

Woman...Scorne

Drew, grew up without a father, who abandoned him and his mom when he was two years old. Unable to handle the loss she turned to drugs and alcohol. Leaving him to live with his grandmother Drew, befriended Jackson and his sister Chloe. Spending most days with their family Drew, became apart of them even as Drew and Jackson, left for college on the east coast they lived together in a condo provided by Jackson family.
Chloe, moves to the east coast to attend school and finds herself, living in the same condo with her brother Jackson and Drew, the man she can't seem to remember when she didn't love him. Chloe, trying to tell and show him how much she loves him, but Drew, scared to get involved turns into a hot and cold bastard towards her. When Chloe, finally tries to move on Drew, struggles with letting her go.

Drew Cavendish is a (im)Perfect definision of a bastard.

He really good at push and pull. Each time I see him, I ready with my gun to shoot him dead. How could he be hot and cold like this? How could she cant wasted with anyone when he bang all the girl he see? and what he said? I bang the gilrs to forget her. Fak. If you want her why just not bang her? because you see her as a sister. Now what? Not like you know that she see you as a man not a brother.

I really understand how she feel. and how he feel. each time I read it, I frustate because I know how it feel and how it will end. but I read it untill the end. I know how to love someone helpless like this. I know how it feels when you want to move on but he always coming back, with many things he do will make your heart flutter but a second after that he leave. I know how it feels. and it's hurt.

Awful

One star for the cover. Worst book ..total downer after reading Tijan book Anti_stepbrother. The story started out telling about the h who used to be overweight who ate a lot of cakes and sweets. Then the author started talking about the h being self conscious about her smile cuz she hasn't seen the dentist. Then the heroine watched the h having sex right after she saw him. After that she still kept on wanting to know his whereabouts.. Pathetic really. Awful...just a lot of telling and not enough showing. I can't recommend this boring book. Talking about someone's oral hygiene was just grose.

Loved it! And yes, Drew is a bastard! Chloe is young and trying to survive her long time childhood crush. Drew is a typical guy cold one minute and then hot as he'll. These two make mistakes but I think they both see a little bit of them selves in each other. They get each other, perfect match, or are they doomed. I want more! More of Jackson! What happens in 5 or 10 years with Chloe and Drew.

A MUST READ

This book draws every emotion possible from the reader. I loved all the characters but I loved Drew and Chloe. They drew emotions from each other that they didn't know they could feel and kept m e on an emotional rollercoaster. What I didn't like was not knowing what the future had in store for these two star crossed lovers. Maybe a sequel in the future. Would love to know how they overcome the obstacle of the wicked stepmother.

Chloe has always had a crush on her brother's best friend Drew. One evening with the boy she grew up with was all she would get. They are now thrown together with all the awkwardness of the morning after a one night stand. Now there are secrets and lies and intense feelings. There are confusing moments in the story but the overall tale is good.

I feel like you have lost your writing mojo.

This story was another recycled story for your other series. The first 70% dragged out and near the end it was all happy every after. Sigh..

Based on this book, the author's writing style is definitely not for me. The way Chloe spoke was not at all how a 19 year old would speak. None of the characters were very likable. All of them were unrealistic, selfish, and just uhhhh (only word I could think of).
